Voting in the Iowa caucuses? See Walt's endorsements!

Hellery Clinton is not inevitable, and thank God for that! Walt endorses Bernie Sanders, just to give the Democratic Establishment a scare and make things interesting. If Bernie becomes the Dems candidate -- which I doubt, even if he wins today -- it would for once give Americans a clear choice between two "outsiders".

What "outsider" do I commend to Republican voters? I wouldn't be fussed if Ted Cruz squeaks through, but, if I could vote in Iowa, I'd vote for Donald Trump... just to make things really interesting. Besides, Mr. Cruz was born in Canada. He can deny his birthright all he likes, but he's got the taint of maple syrup about him.

Yes, I'm from Ukraine

People occasionally ask me if I'm from the Ukraine, or at least Ukrainian. "With a name like 'Walt(er)', what else could you be?" they ask. Well no, I'm not Ukrainian, ethnically or by citizenship. But a couple of my agents are, or their ancestors were, or both. One of them sent me these answers to annoying questions Ukrainians get asked by non-Ukrainians.

Lamestream media moan about backlash against Muslim "refugees"

Walt is wetting himself (almost) reading the sob stories in the liberal lamestream media about how the racist and Islamophobic Europeans are turning against the waves of "refugees" and asylum-seekers washing up on their shores. Worst of all are the Canadian meeja, led by the state-owned CBC, who smugly assure their audience that the "failure of human compassion" would never happen in Canada. Canadians, they say, overwhelmingly support the welcoming of 1000s of aliens who won't integrate into their supposedly multicultural society any better than will those who the Europeans now seek to get rid of.

Typical of the tripe that's being fed to gullible Canucks is "The refugee crisis is shredding the cords that bind Europe", commentary by Kelly McParland in the so-called National Post. In the FB comments section following the piece, one perceptive reader calls Mr. McParland an "ethno-masochist, multiculturalist shill". [Don't you wish you'd thought up "ethno-masochist"? Ed.]

Be that as it certainly is, I'm going to repost a large chunk of the blog, because, even if the slant is wrong, Mr. McParland has the facts right. The Europeans don't want any more refugees. In fact, they'd like to send those who have already snuck into their countries back where they came from. That's a fact!

In Europe [Mr. McParland writes], one flood is running into another. The tide of refugees pouring across the Mediterranean in search of a new life is meeting a counter-flow of antagonism from countries increasingly unprepared to grant them their wish.

Dishearteningly, staunch resistance is now coming from some of the wealthiest countries. A Dutch proposal would have Syrians landing in Greece put on a boat straight back to Turkey. Denmark has passed a law allowing it to collect valuables from refugee claimants to pay their costs. Sweden’s Interior Minister said this week some 80,000 asylum-seekers -– about half the total -– could be deported if Stockholm can find enough planes for them. Not to be outdone, Finland revealed it expects to reject 65% of asylum applicants....

Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron this week dismissed refugees gathered in France as "a bunch of migrants" and rejected any suggestion they should be allowed into Britain.... The EU government in Brussels, meanwhile, has taken to blaming Greece –- easily it’s [sic] weakest member -– for failing to keep the tide from spreading beyond its borders.... Brussels is now threatening to impose border controls if Athens can’t find a way to save the other 27 member countries from being afflicted with the migrants.

The most dramatic shift remains in Germany, however, where there is a very real chance the coalition government of Chancellor Angela Merkel could unravel.... Merkel is scrambling desperately to convince other European powers they must act together if the EU is to survive. A poll released Friday found 40% of Germans feel Merkel should resign over her handling of the situation. She was able to hold her government together this week only by agreeing to new restrictions demanded by her two main allies, Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, and Bavarian Premier Horst Seehofer.

Seehofer in particular has pressured Berlin to tighten the liberal policies championed by Merkel, who argues that Germany has a historical responsibility to aid as many asylum-seekers as possible. He wants a cap on the number Germany will accept, and an expanded list of "safe" countries from which applicants will be rejected.

Critics complain that thousands of people from North Africa have sought to take advantage of the chaos to claim refugee status in wealthier European countries. Norway said recently it would send home thousands of Russians who have crossed into the country by bicycle after spotting a loophole in immigration laws.

Merkel has shown herself to be among the most adroit leaders in the western world. But after more than a decade at the top of the European pole, the ground beneath her may be collapsing. It could swallow her, as well as Europe as a union. Built to avoid war, it could fail over the limits of human compassion.

On this side of the water (Walt speaking now), Canada's Liberal government keeps saying it will admit 25,000 "refugees" by the end of February, and as many as 50,000 by the end of 2016, whether Canadians like it or not, and whether the migrants want come of not. See "Surprise! Syrian refugees welcomed by Canada want to go home", WWW 25/1/16.

South of the world's longest undefended border, Barack Hussein Obama thinks the Paranoid States of America should be able to accommodate a mere 10,000 of the tired, wretched, huddles masses. His likely success, Donald Trump, thinks that's 10,000 too many, and numerous public opinion polls suggest many more Americans agree with the Donald than with the Prez.

Assuming the USA effectively slams the door on the "refugees", that would seem to leave Canadians as the only ones foolish enough to let their deluded liberal elites (Hello, Kelly McParland!) lead them, lemming-like, over the cliff to societal suicide.

Another product for the fat of the land?

Mrs. Walt received, the other day, a promotional package of something called Herbacin. What's that? Could be a herbicide. I don't know. It was "her" stuff. Included as a little bonus was what I call an emery board -- something you use to file your nails. [I don't file mine. I just throw `em away. Ed.] It's the top one in this photo.

While Mrs. Walt was giving herself a manicure, I observed that she was struggling somewhat with the board. (It should be noted here that Mrs. Walt is petite, and not Born in the USA.) It seemed a bit bigger than necessary for her delicate fingertips. I got one of her "standard" emery boards for comparison -- the bottom one in the picture -- and found that the new one is a tad shorter but almost three times as thick as the old one.

Why so? My guess is that the Herbacin board -- I think it's just a promotional item, not the Herbacin product itself -- is yet another product designed for the hopelessly fat. By "hopelessly fat" I mean the average American. I first wrote about this trend to "fatten up" everyday products to match the expanding population almost five years ago. See "Fat and fatter", WWW 3/3/11.

Pens, cutlery, emery boards -- everything is getting super-sized, so as to be more easily managed by people with finers like sausages. There are curved shower curtain rods to accommodate those who bulge out over the edge of the tub. See "Showers for those who can't see their toes", WWW 29/4/11. Even coffins are being built bigger. See "FAT in life, FAT in death", WWW 14/1/12.

And the list goes on. Just this week we learn that Barbie has put on some weight. It's not that the new Barbie is "fat", you understand. That word is no longer politically correct. To call someone "fat" is "body-shaming". Tut tut! No, the new, bigger Barbie is "curvy", or you might say she has "a more realistic body shape". That's the official Mattel line, anyway. But the pix I've seen suggest that Barbie, like emery boards, has been redesigned for not-so-little fingers.

When the Muslims take over Italy...

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani made a state visit to Italy earlier this week. To ensure that everything was politically correct and Muslim-friendly for his visit, Italian authorities covered up nude statues, so as not to offend Islamic sensibilities.

This may be only a foretaste of things to come. When the wave of Muslim "refugees" inundates Italy completely, expect the dirty artworks to be covered up, or indeed destroyed as in the ISIS "caliphate". Once Sharia law becomes the law of Europe, even paintings of women's faces could be affected. Like this.

Subban booed at Bell Centre as Canadiens lose another one

Poor Len here, and in a foul mood, as were all fans of the Montréal Canadiens after last night's debacle at the Bell Centre. For the second night in a row, the Habs lost 5-2 to the worst team in the NHL, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Check out this picture...

"What's that noise?", alleged all-star defenceman P.K. Subban (76) seems to be asking. "Is it booing? Who are they booing? Surely they're not booing ME?!" But indeed they were, and deservedly so. Pernell Karl got assists on both Montréal goals, the second for a nice cross-seam pass to Alex Galchenyuk. But he also coughed up the puck a number of times (as is his wont), including two egregious giveaways which resulted in Columbus goals. -1 for the night.

So it's time once again (sadly) for me to ask, what's wrong with the Canadiens? Can it be fixed during the all-star break, or at least before the end of February trade deadline? Do the Habs have any hope of even making the playoffs, or will the nightmare continue until an early summer vacation?

Here (IMHO) is the problem in a nutshell. Les Glorieux are scoring just over 2 goals per game at the moment. Their goaltenders are allowing a slightly higher number, on average. Result? Loss after loss after loss. To fix the obvious problem, they must either score more or get scored on less.

I have much sympathy for the Montréal goaltending duo. Ben Scrivens, obtained from Calgary to replace the useless Dustin Tokarski, seems to be a graduate of the Mike Palmateer school of goaltending, but is doing his best. Mike Condon, elevated to the No. 1 role after Carey Price's injury -- will he ever recover? -- has a save percentage of around .910, which is reasonable for an NHL goalie. But his GAA is well over 2.00 and climbing, and... see preceding paragraph.

What Condon and Scrivens need is more help on defence. The Habs have some four defencemen -- Emelin, Petry, Gilbert, and Barberio -- who are either good or adequate. Greg Pateryn, brought up from the farm club last year, has been riding the pines most of this season, but would be OK if he were playing with the right partner.

Which brings us to Markov, Beaulieu and Subban. Andrei Markov appears to be getting tired. He's 37, so maybe he's just physically tired, but I believe his increasingly frequent flubs come from being paired with Subban and having to guess what the unpredictable "all-star" is going to do next. Perhaps it's time to give Markov a rest and let Pateryn play more, with Emelin perhaps, leaving Subban and Beaulieu to team up for the risky business.

As for the lack of scoring punch, I'm not alone in thinking that the forwards have a confidence problem. Knowing that Carey Price isn't back there to bail them out and the defence is suspect, they are playing to not make mistakes! They hesitate to carry the puck at top speed into the opponents' zone, lest they get trapped and then accused of being irresponsible on defence.

Instead, they leave it to the "offensive defencement" -- Subban and Beaulieu -- to initiate the break-outs. Subban tries to do this in one of two ways. Sometimes he tries what Don Cherry calls the "Alley Oop" pass, a lob up the centre which a forward is supposed to pick up for a breakaway. When that play works, it's great. At other times, Subban elects to carry the puck himself. Showboat that he is, he always makes a pivot or two along the way, which means that the forwards have to stop at the blue line to wait for him. Really. Not great.

There's my diagnosis. I'm running out of space so will only touch briefly on the question of who should be traded if the Habs are going to have a shot at the playoffs. The way things are now, if I were Marc Bergevin, I'd consider everyone except Carey Price a potential candidate for a trade. (Yes, some of them have no-trade clauses, but so what.) That includes P.K. Subban, who I think is not a team player, a disruptive force in the room and on the bench, and, on balance (as he often isn't!) a liability to the team.

The SPLC hates Judge Roy Moore... because he's RIGHT!

You might not think it from their altruistic-sounding name, but the Southern Poverty Law Center is a hate group! What they hate with consuming passion is intolerance. Make that religious intolerance. More accurately, they hate Christian intolerance, since they rarely inveigh against Islamic fanatacism or (Gott in Himmel!) Zionism.

Can you be more specific (I hear you ask) about who the SPLC hates? Why sure. According to Wikipedia, the SPLC recently counted 784 American societies, churches and organizations that it describes as "active hate groups". These included:
72 separate Ku Klux Klan (KKK) groups with 52 websites
142 neo-Nazi groups with 89 websites
115 white nationalist groups with 190 websites
119 white power skinhead groups with 25 websites
21 Christian Identity groups with 37 websites
37 neo-Confederate groups with 25 websites
113 black separatist groups with 40 websites
165 general hate groups (subdivided into anti-gay, Holocaust denial, racist music, radical traditionalist Catholic and others)with 172 hate websites.

So let's see... If the SPLC is against groups which are anti-LGBT, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, etc., then they must be for queers, immigrants, Muslims, etc... right? And if they're against "Christian Identity" groups, who are they for? That would be a good question to ask their CEO, Richard Cohen.

The "Christian Identity groups" most often targeted by the SPLC are evangelical Protestants and "radical traditional Catholic" groups. High on their fecal roster are Catholic Family News/Catholic Family Ministries, The Fatima Crusader/International Fatima Rosary Crusade, and The Remnant/The Remnant Press, all of which Walt endorses whole-heartedly. [WWW didn't make the list though. Maybe Walt isn't as widely read as we like to think. Ed.]

The SPLC doesn't restrict its hate to groups. They routinely indulge in ad hominem attacks against named individuals including Michael Matt (see "Further viewing" below), John Vennari, Rush Limbaugh and the late Father Nicholas Gruner+. Since these individuals have all expressed disappointment (to put it mildly) with Pope Francis, you might think the SPLC is pro-Pope, but you would be wrong.

The SPLC doesn't restrict its scurrilous attacks to Catholics. Evangelic Protestants are pilloried for their fundamentalist Christian beliefs, and particularly their insistence that the United States of America was created as, and should remain a Christian nation -- "one nation under God".

Their primary target at the moment is the Hon. Roy Moore, Chief Justice of Alabama. Judge Moore, who has the temerity to wear Christian symbols on his lapel and signet ring, won fame (or notoriety) for three actions he took while serving as a circuit judge.

He posted a hand-carved wooden plaque of the Ten Commandments in his court room, opened court sessions with prayers led by a local clergyman, and later installed a granite monument to the Ten Commandments in the rotunda of the Alabama State Judicial Building. For those acts, and for telling supporters at a rally in Tennessee that the United States was founded as a Christian nation and that Christians should "take back our land", Judge Moore was removed from the bench in 2003. He was reinstated in 2012.

Now, from his position as Alabama's chief justice, Judge Moore is leading the fight against gay "marriage". On January 6th he instructed the state's probate judges not to grant marriage licences to same-sex couples. He argues that a prohibition of the Alabama Supreme Court last year remains in effect, despite a recent ruling of the United States Supreme Court, because the USSC ruling involved four states other than Alabama.

Judge Moore has described homosexuality as "an inherent evil". Gay "marriage", he says, means "the destruction of the foundation of our country."

Richard Cohen, CEO of the SPLC, replies by calling the jurist "the Ayatollah of Alabama" and says his reasoning is "completely deceptive and legally bogus". Judge Moore's comment? "When you stand up for the truth these days, you are going to be attacked."

This week's Economist quotes Judge Moore as saying America was founded on "the God of the Holy Scriptures", and that those whose beliefs are contrary to God's laws live and worship in the USA on sufferance. He invokes Thomas Jefferson in holding that the religious freedom of Christians is granted by God, not by government. Thus, he says, social change, such as recognition of gay "marriage", "is not to be dictated by a court."

Millions of Americans agree with Judge Moore that their country's precepts have been forsake, and its greatness lost. That is why Donald Trump's slogan -- "Make America great again!" -- is resonating so strongly in Iowa, New Hampshire and America's heartland. And that's why the SPLC hates Judge Roy Moore.

Surprise! Syrian refugees welcomed by Canada want to go home

Just before Hallowe'en, Walt revealed that "Middle East 'refugees' refuse to live in cold places". Duh. That explained, I said, why the Canadian government was having difficulty getting refugees from the Muslim civil wars to take them up on their offer of free airfares, free accommodation, clothing, meals, etc etc, if only they would bring a little more diversity to the Great Not-so-white North.

In this picture below, we see Canada's Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship -- in that order -- extolling the virtues of his native land to a typical Muslim family. "It's really swell in Canada, eh!" he may be saying. "The grass really is greener -- good Islamic green. And everyone will welcome you! Trust me!"

And so they came... 1000s of them. And, just as Walt predicted, some of them are already whining about the cold, the food, and the lack of "help" (read: money). A group staying on Canuck taxpayers' dime -- 70 cents in real money -- told Virginia Johnson, a volunteer trying to assist them, that feel like they're "trapped in a prison" without hope due to a lack of communication, supplies and assistance (read: more money).

Ms Johnson was interviewed this morning on CBC Radio's Toronto flagship, on Metro Morning, a programme relentless in its propaganda for multiculturalism, diversity, minority "rights", and helping the poor of every country but Canada.

She told ultra-PC host Matt Galloway [one of the Galloway Boys? Ed.] the 85 refugees have been at the hotel for weeks and have no idea when they will be able to leave. Some of them say they're not getting much help, and would rather go back to their refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon.

Speaking through a translator, a Syrian mother, Zaneb Adri Abu-Rukti, said "We were told that when we arrived to the hotel that we would only be staying for three to four days maximum. However, things have been changed and we've been here for 10 to 11 days, and we've been told it could be even longer."

Apparently Ms Abu-Rukti was under was under the impression they'd be getting a house. "We feel like our kids are just stuck here," she went on. "We go into one room, we eat, and then we return to other room and just go to bed. Our kids don't have anywhere to play, nowhere to go out. We feel like we're just trapped in a prison. I feel even though we chose to come out to Canada and it was something that we chose to do, it was our right and we chose it, however, it's not what we expected and it's not what we thought we would come into."

Unfortunately for her and the others, Ms Abu-Rukti is quite right. They made their choice and now they are as stuck with Canada as Canadians are stuck with them. As she told the interviewer, " Another lady asked to return and the Canadian Embassy said: 'There is no way you guys can return now.'"

Could it be MH370? Wreckage found on Thai beach

Walt has spent much of this weekend meditating [= dozing off. Ed.] so has just now seen a report of the finding, on a beach in southern Thailand, of what looks like a piece of wreckage from some sort of aircraft.

Reuters reports that villagers in the Pak Phanang district of Nakhon Si Thammart province found a large piece of curved metal, measuring about 6 feet by 9 feet, heavily encrusted with barnacles, and reported the find to authorities for identification. We have a couple of photos.

The presence of numerous barnacles suggests that the piece of metal was in the ocean for some length of time. Note the resemblance to the condition of the flaperon (a part of the wing of a Boeing 777) which washed up on the French island of Réunion in July of last year.

The site of this week's discovery is 1000s of miles east of Réunion, but only a couple of hundred miles to the northwest of the last reported radar "sighting" of the B-777 flown by Malaysian Airlines as flight MH370, which vanished in March of 2014.

The find has therefore fuelled speculation in the Thai media that the debris could belong to MH370. If this turns out to be the case, much doubt will be cast on the officially approved theory that the plane flew (either on autopilot or under the control of suicidal pilots) into the south Indian Ocean, to the west of Australia. That would mean that the "authorities" are looking in the wrong place. Which is what Walt has said all along.

We must take note, however, of the opinion of "experts" like Greg Waldron, Asia managing editor at Flightglobal, an industry publication. He is quote in the Australian meeja as saying that while powerful currents sweeping the Indian Ocean could deposit debris thousands of kilometres away, wreckage was extremely unlikely to have drifted across the equator into the northern hemisphere.

Mr. Waldron goes so far as to suggest that the wreckage is not from an airplane at all, but perhaps something that dropped into the sea from outer space! "The markings, engineering, and tooling apparent in this debris strongly suggest that it is aerospace related," he said. "It will need to be carefully examined, however, to determine its exact origin."

A spokesthingy for the Joint Agency Coordination Centre, the Australian authority that is overseeing the international search for MH370, told Reuters it was "awaiting results of the official examination of the material". So are the families of the hundreds of (mostly Chinese) pax on board the ill-fated flight. So are we all...

Have you tried 72 Virgins?

Walt rarely writes about wine, women and song, because these days, for me, it's Metrecal, the same ole gal and "Sing Along With Mitch". [No-one under the age of 70 is going to get that! Ed.]

Agent 6, however, is a connoisseur of those things, or a couple of them at least, and has passed along a recommendation for a fine Australian wine called "72 Virgins". Here's what the label looks like.

Where's the Snowzilla?

Weird highway traffic sign allegedly seen not far from the nation's capital yesterday... [Which nation are we talking about here? Ed.]

Poor Len notes that there's not a flake of snow in sight, let alone a "lizzard". They must be talking about a nation of weather wimps!

As for me, I'm sick of the lamestream media crying "wolf!" over the slightest "weather event". And trust me folks, the occasional storm doesn't mean that the climate is changing and that we're all going to freeze or burn in a hell of our own making. It just ain't so.

VIDEO: Amazing wedding haka

Walt has posted videos of wedding dances in times past -- the Swazi girls doing the reed dance is a perennial favourite here, for some reason -- but never anything like this haka performed by the guests at a wedding reception in New Zealand. The bride seems quite moved. What do you suppose she's thinking?

UK boy did NOT live in "terrorist house" after all

Inspector Knacker of the Lancashire Constabulary confirmed today that his force has completed its investigation of an unnamed Muslim boy [perhaps "Mohammed" Something-or-other? Ed.] who had written in a school assignment that he lived in a "terrorist house".

Teachers at the 10-year-old's school had notified Authorities not because of Islamophobia, but in compliance with a law requiring schools to report any possible "links to extremism" observed in their pupils. The Peelers responded by sending an officer along with a social worker to visit the boy's home in Accrington. They found that the boy actually lived in a "terraced house" -- British English for a row house. Another case of the inability to spell correctly all too common in 21st century edjumakashun.

"There were not thought to be any areas for concern," Inspector Knacker reported, "and no further action was required by any agency." Case closed. That's good police work, boys!

UPDATED: The Economist on integrating Muslims into European society

This is a follow-up to "Speaking of integrating Muslims into European society...", posted here yesterday. The postman [letter carrier, surely! Ed.] just delivered this week's Economist (16/1/16), from which I've selected two interesting (and apparently contradictory) quotes.

A leader (= editorial, for North Americans) headed "Migrant men and European women", on p. 12 of the North American edition, has, as its subtitle: "To absorb newcomers peacefully, Europe must insist they respect values such as tolerance and sexual equality". Oh, hahahahahahahaha! See the last paragraph of yesterday's post.

From the same issue, "Cologne's aftershocks" (p. 57) concludes: "In retrospect it is clear that Mrs Merkel's hopeful New Year's address coincided with the appearance of immigration's dark side [Was that intentional? Ed.] on German streets, and that her warnings have not been heeded. Some refugees have not respected German rules and traditions. Germans are divided. Germany's neighbours, from Hungary and Poland to Switzerland and Denmark, have sneered at Mrs Merkel's 'welcome culture'. It now looks tenuous even at home."

Any further comment would be superfluous. However, thanks to Agent 3, we do have a

Footnote from Canada: Justin Trudeau, Canada's liberal Liberal new Prime Minister, won election in October on (among other things) a promise to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada by 31 December 2015. The target date has since been pushed back to 31 December 2016. As of mid-January, about 10,000 have actually arrived, most being dumped into Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa. Yesterday the mayors of Vancouver and Ottawa asked M Trudeau and his Minister of Refugees, John McCallum, to please hold the Mohammed salads -- thanks to Mark Steyn for that line -- for a while because, errr, there's no more room for them.

UPDATED 20/1/16
: Vancouver and Ottawa have asked for a "pause" in bringing in more Syrian "refugees". And now it's Halifax and even Toronto (!!!) admitting they can't take any more... for now... you understand... Of course it has nothing to do with the backlash against queue-jumping asylum-seekers which has manifested itself in such things as a huddled mass of them being pepper-sprayed in Vancouver by some terrible racist who's against diversity.

Speaking of integrating Muslims into European society...

When British Prime Minister David Cameron told female Muslim immigrants to learn English or get out, he said the taxpayer-funded language courses being set up for newcomers were meant to help them integrate into British society. Walt doubts that any number of well-meant education programmes -- in language, sexual mores or whatever -- can ever turn Muslim aliens into good citizens of post-Christian Europe.

Case in point: the New Year's Eve sex attacks in Köln and other cities of Germany and northern Europe. When German police finally admitted that some of the suspects were Arabs and North Africans, the usual anti-racism said we mustn't rush to judgment, blaming Muslim immigrants/refugees/asylum-seekers, as no charges had yet been laid.

Well, charges were laid today. The first person charged is a 26-year-old Algerian man. Prosecutors said Monday that the unidentified asylum-seeker [probably "Mohammed" something-or-other. Ed.] was arrested at a refugee home in the nearby town of Kerpen over the weekend. A spokesthingy for the public prosecutor told AP the Muslim -- for that's what he is -- stands accused of groping a woman and stealing her cellphone.

Two other Algerian asylum-seekers, aged 22 and 24, were also arrested in Kerpen and the western city of Aachen, respectively, over the weekend, both for robbery. The number of people accused of committing crimes in Cologne at New Year's now stands at 21, of whom eight are in detention.

Almost three weeks after the wave of assaults, thefts and general bad behaviour, 838 people have filed criminal complaints. That includes nearly 500 women who allege that they were sexually assaulted. Some of the victims have jointly filed a single complaint, so that the number of alleged crimes stands at 766, of which 381 are sexual offences, including three rapes.

Is it OK now, Walt asks, to point the finger of blame and shame at Muslim "refugees" and asylum-seekers? What should be done with these alleged people, if they are convicted? Perhaps they should be sentenced to several hours of sensitivity training, or maybe a little time in "re-education camps" -- something which the Germans have some experience with.

Horrible headlines

Speaking of proper English usage (see "No fulsome apologies from Walt!", posted earlier today), we thank Agent 34 for adding to Ed.'s collection of headline howlers, written by sub-editors whose grasp of the language is, errr, somewhat tenuous.

If you don't see anything wrong with these, please quit your job at USA Today (or wherever) and take a course in remedial English. If you're a Muslim woman living in the UK, the government will pay your tuition. (See previous post.)

UK tells Muslim women "Learn English or get out!"

Word reaches us today of an incredibly politically incorrect statement by British Prime Minister David Cameron. Meeting with a group of Muslim women to announce funding for English classes for female Muslim immigrants, Mr. Cameron told them that, in order to integrate into British society, they'd better improve their English, and right sharpish too! Or else, he added, they could face deportation!

Did Mr. Cameron really say that? The story on the AP mojo wire says he emphasized that Britain has expectations for those who want to live in the country. "I think it’s quite right to say to people who come to our country that there are many rights that you have here -- it’s a fantastic country to live in -- but there are also obligations that we should put on people who come to our country, and chief amongst them should be obligations to learn English, because then you can integrate, you can take advantage of the opportunities here and you can help us to build the strong country that we want."

But (as the usual gang of anti-racism and "human rights" activists were quick to cry out) why just Muslim women? Well, it seems that single male Muslim immigrants -- including the 1000s of refugees and asylum-seekers admitted to the UK every year -- don't want to marry British-born girls, so they send home to south Asia and the Middle East for nice virginal Muslim brides. The prospective spouses are required by the British government to demonstrate English language skills to standards of roughly that of a child starting primary school. But once they arrive, they lose interest in learning, with the result that there are some 200,000 Muslim women in the country who can't are functionally illiterate.

Under the government's new plan, spouses would have five years to improve their ability to a higher standard, after which "No speak English!" gets you a ticket back to Armpitistan. How about that? How bad must the problem of integrating aliens be for the famously tolerant British to even consider such a discriminatory, Islamophobic, racist, yada-yada-yada measure? We on this side of the pond would never do such a thing... would we?

Footnote: Even as Mr. Cameron laid down the law to the Muslim ladies, the British House of Commons debated a motion to bar Donald Trump from entering the UK. Why? Because Mr. Trump thinks it would be a good idea to bar Muslims from entering the USA. Ah, perfidious Albion! But the debate doesn't matter, because Parliament can't bar anyone from entering Not-so-great Britain. That power rests with the Home Office.

No fulsome apologies from Walt!

This morning I heard an educated woman -- the director of a charity which aids the poor and down-trodden of the Third World -- talking on public radio about war crimes allegedly committed in Somalia. (The alleged criminals were Americans of course, not the Islamic terrorist group al-Shabaab. Hey, it was public radio!)

The speaker called for a "fulsome investigation" of the "deliberate starvation" of Somalis by the wicked Americans, through restrictions on food aid which otherwise would have prevented the "famine".

A "fulsome investigation"... Really? I'm guessing the speaker really wants a full, complete, thorough investigation, but, in spite of her higher learning, misunderstands the meaning of the adjective "fulsome". Walt's Annadale's dictionary says "fulsome" means "cloying, surfeiting, offensive from excess of praise, gross (flattery, compliments), nauseous, disgusting".

The misuse of "fulsome" has become something of an epidemic amongst the lamestream media and chattering classes. I am sick, sore and tired of hearing news "reporters" promising "more fulsome coverage at 11", and politicians promising to give an issue their "fulsome attention".

This abuse of vocabulary stems, no doubt, from a wish to sound better-educated than the speakers really are. To "big themselves up", as speakers of Ebonics say, the professional talkers reach for the sesquipedelian word, when a plain, simple word would do. To those who are tempted so to do, Walt recommends two books: 30 Day to a More Powerful Vocabulary, by Wilfred Funk (yes, that Funk, as in "Funk & Wagnalls") and Norman Lewis, and the seminal work by Dr. Rudolf Fleisch, The Art of Plain Talk.

If you are a professional talker, and intend to go on misusing "fulsome" because it sounds good, I say, go right ahead and demonstrate your ignorance of proper English. And spare me your fulsome apologies.

RC bishop denounces "totalitarianism" of school gender "guidelines" ... PLUS Cardinal confirms gay lobby at Vatican

Earlier today Walt introduced you to the phrase "gender ideology", a euphemism for the LGBTQ2S OK-to-be-gay agenda which is being fed to us every day in every way by the lamestream media, our politically correct politicians (notably Toronto Mayor John Tory and Ontario's lesbian Premier Kathleen Wynne), and, yes, our ultra-PC school boards and departments of education.

The pale-pink NDP government of Alberta, in the formerly conservative Canadian West, has just released new guidelines for "respecting students' gender identity". The guidelines announced by Alberta's Minister of Education Minister David Eggen "advise" school boards to develop policies that let students choose which washroom to use, the name on their report cards and the sports teams they wish to play on.

It's not what you have (or don't have) between your legs that determines your gender any more. It's how you feel about it! That must be what "two-spirited" means. (See "LGBTQ... but wait, there's more!", posted here earlier today.)

"Advise" is typical pinko-speak for a government "suggestion" that you'd better obey or else! The Roman Catholic Bishop of Calgary, Most Rev. Fred Henry, calls the guidelines "totalitarian" and "anti-Catholic". In "Totalitarianism in Alberta", a pastoral letter posted online, Bishop Henry says, "This approach and directive smack of the madness of relativism and the forceful imposition of a particular narrow-minded anti-Catholic ideology."

He goes on to say that "[the guidelines] show no evidence of consultation with or sensitivity to the Catholic community. They breathe pure secularism." The Catholic Church, he explains, holds to a "rather simple" teaching that God created beings as male and female and that "men and women should respect and accept their sexual identity."

Bishop Henry also disapproves of student-led "gay-straight alliances" and "queer-straight alliances", calling them "highly politicized ideological clubs which seek to cure society of 'homophobia' and 'heterosexism,' and which accept the idea that all forms of consensual sexual expression are legitimate. The view of sexuality that they espouse is not Catholic."

Walt couldn't agree more, but wonders if Bishop Henry sent a draft of his pastoral letter to the Gay Mafia within the Vatican for approval or correction. Probably not.

You don't think there's a Gay Mafia at the Vatican? Read "A 'gay lobby' at the Vatican? One cardinal says it's real, and Pope Francis is responding", posted on the Catholic News Agency website 13/1/16. Walt expects that the Holy Father's "response" will be the same as it is to other crises in the world, the Faith and the Church -- confusing, tepid and ineffectual.

LGBTQ... but wait, there's more!

Poor Len told you yesterday about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to Canada's biggest city (and fount of all evil), Toronto. We learned that Himself Jr. is a fan of the Montréal Canadiens, and that he has no hesitation in upstaging Toronto Mayor John Tory in the inevitable photo op.

You would think that with a name like "John Tory", hizzoner would be a loyal, true-blue, conservative Conservative. Indeed he was all of that, eons ago, when he was leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. He learned the hard way that being conservative doesn't pay off in the new liberal, multicultural Toronto, where straight white males like his goodself are almost an endangered species. In his last provincial campaign he was defeated by Kathleen Wynne, now Ontario's Premier, who is white enough, but better-known for being not male and not straight.

After sitting on the sidelines for a few years, Mr. Tory jumped back into the political pool, being careful to remove his party label before running successfully for the mayoralty. Now that he's MOAT (Mayor Of All Toronto), Mr. Tory has embraced diversity in all its forms, including, it would seem, gender ideology.

Since his election, Mayor Tory has never missed an opportunity to pander to the LGBT crowd. At least, "LGBT" is what he called the rainbow coalition at first. Then they added a "Q" (for "Queer"), and so did the mayor -- LGBTQ was the new politically correct acronym.

"But wait!", as Vince Offer used to say, "there's more!" Today, Agent 3 informs us, Mayor Tory announced the opening of a shelter for youths (16-24) of uncertain sexual orientation. And what did he call these poor, shelter-less queer people? "LGBTQ2S"! No kidding. Apparently the "2S" means "two-spirited", whatever that means. Maybe it means you're whichever "spirit" you feel like being at any given time. Or maybe it's what we used to call "AC/DC". No, wait... that's the "B", right?

It's all very confusing to us straight people. Whether we're more confused than the LGBTQ2S folks is another question entirely.

Justin Trudeau's a Habs fan!

Poor Len Canayen here. "Here" does not mean in Toronto. I was not among the 1000s who mobbed Toronto's city hall today on the occasion of the first visit to the Heart of Hogtown by a serving prime minister in the 21st century.

Yes, Justin Trudeau Himself blew into the Little Apple today for, among other things, a chat with Mayor John Tory. Hizzoner presented the PM with -- stand by for no surprise -- a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey sweater, emblazoned with the number 23. Whatever could that mean? Why not number 1? Well, no matter. The PM accepted the sweater with his customary smile. But then, for the photo op, he hiked up his pant leg to reveal his true colours!

Yes folks, Prime Minister Trudeau is a Habs fan! What else could he be? I hope this gives La Sainte Flannelle a bit of a lift, because they surely need it, having barely survived a distastrous -- let us say Price-less -- December. Go Habs go!

Mark Steyn is "Islamed out"

It would be easy enough for me to post, every day, a great quote from SteynOnline, the excellent blog written by Mark Steyn, author of America Alone, After America, The [Un]documented Mark Steyn and other books which I've praised here in the past. See "USA 'the brokiest brokey broke nation in the history of the world'": WWW 11/11/13 -- great to read after the Prez's State of Disunion speech.

I don't do it -- quote Mr. Steyn every day, I mean -- only because Ed. accuses me of laziness often enough as it is. Today, though, I must risk Ed.'s wrath to give you a snippet from "Hold the Mohamed Salad", Mr. Steyn's trenchant comment on crimes committed by guys named "Mohamed" in Germany, Norway, Sweden, Canada...maybe even the USA.

Mr. Steyn writes: I've spent the entirety of this no longer new century writing about [the Islamization of Europe and the decline of the West]. The remorseless demographic transformation of the western world is the biggest story of our time, so why wouldn't a writer want to write about it? Apart from anything else, once you're aware of it, it haunts your dreams.

But most of us still aren't aware of it. I've been fortunate enough to get a couple of bestselling books out of the subject, but that's no comfort if, by the time they're my age, my children are living in a post-western world. And, of course, you can have a "bestseller" and 99.999999999 per cent of the population need never know of it. Every day I get letters from people who come here via a link from someone or other beginning in effect: "What do you mean, 'the Islamization of Europe'? It's the first I've heard of it."

Really? Why did the Charlie Hebdo guys get killed? Because they provoked Islam. Why is Europe's political class so willing to trade away free speech and women's rights? Because they're desperate to appease Islam. Why did the same young secular childless German women who supported Angela Merkel in her multiculti delusions spend the New Year getting groped and raped by the young men they so generously opened the doors of their country to? Because when you appease Islam you provoke Islam.

I'm pretty Islamed out, because I don't have a lot to say I didn't say ten years ago.

PC police fail to control German backlash against immigrants

North America's oh-so-PC lamestream media are underplaying reports from Germany that real ethnic Germans, infuriated by the wave of sex and criminal attacks on white women and girls in Cologne and the surrounding area, have started to strike back with coordinated attacks on the non-white, Muslim invaders.

A spokesthingy for Cologne police told reporters that four separate attacks on asylum-seekers took place this past Sunday evening. Six of them were injured, Inspektor Katzenjammer said, and at least two had to be hospitalized. In an earlier press statement, the Polizei said they had "received information that there were groups of people who were deliberately seeking confrontations in the city centre."

The police immediately deployed in large numbers "to ensure the safety of visitors to the old town" area. In the course of the evening, more than 150 German men -- meaning ethnic Germans -- were stopped and checked. Four were taken into custody and 199 restraining orders were issued. Nevertheless, six Pakistanis were attacked by a group of about twenty men. They were all beaten, and two of them were taken to a nearby hospital where they were discharged after treatment. Later, another group attacked a 39-year-old Syrian, who was injured, but did not require treatment.

That's the news from Germany. Why are we on this side of the pond not hearing and reading more about the anti-immigrant backlash? Because drawing attention to the fact that refugees and asylum-seekers from the Middle East and North Africa are really not welcome in Europe and North America would cast doubt on the wisdom of our governments' pro-immigration, pro-multiculturalism, be-kind-to-the-refugees policies.

Maragaret Wente, often quoted here, has a good piece on the subject in today's Globe and Mail, headed "Germany's brutal immigrant awakening". For those who can't get through the Glob's stupid paywall, Walt presents the highlights from Ms Wente's excellent analysis.

After Cologne, the ugly truth can no longer be ignored. The assailants, described by a senior German official, Ralf Jaeger, as being mainly Arab and North African men, including asylum seekers who arrived in the past year, come from cultures that are deeply misogynistic. Their attitudes toward women are the worst possible fit with Europe’s tolerant, sexually egalitarian liberal norms.

The Cologne police media department initially described the celebration as “peaceful.” As disturbing details began to emerge, police were reluctant to identify the origin of the alleged attackers because of its “politically awkward nature,” as one leading German broadcaster put it. The main German TV station took a pass on the story. Henriette Reker, the pro-refugee mayor of Cologne, said there was no evidence that the assailants were “refugees.”

Until now, sensitivity to anti-immigrant backlash has prevented honest talk about sexual misconduct among immigrant men; such talk has been condemned as racist in the past.... But what happened in Cologne was too big to cover up. News has now emerged of similar New Year’s Eve assaults in Austria, Switzerland, Finland and Sweden, as well as other German cities.

The Viennese police chief has warned women not to go out alone at night. Sweden is now dealing with its own cover-up at a music festival last summer, where young girls were assaulted by hundreds of mostly Afghan men. As the official in charge of the festival’s policing told a local news source, “We sometimes dare not to say how it is because we think it might play into the hands of the [right-wing] Sweden Democrats.”

Yet even now, some of Europe’s liberal humanitarians are still in deep denial. In an interview with Der Spiegel, Cologne’s mayor expressed genuine shock that so many immigrant men do not act like German men. What’s needed, Ms. Reker said, is more language and integration courses, to give them a better grasp of German culture (which begs the question of whether they are interested in grasping it). As for how to behave at public festivals, she thinks pictograms might help.

There are other solutions, but they might be more difficult. Refuse asylum to single men (as Canada has done). Deport the ones who’ve already arrived. Choose who comes. Don’t choose people who can’t tell the difference between a kiss and rape.

As for avoiding a right-wing backlash, it’s way too late. After years of official lies and cover-ups, it’s already here.

UPDATE: Oopsie! Not all the lamestream media are ignoring the backlash. Canada's National Post has just, errr, reposted "Angela Merkel says Germany has lost control of the refugee crisis amid public anger over Cologne sex attacks", a report from the London Telegraph. Here's a key quote: "[Ms Merkel's] comments came after authorities in Cologne confirmed for the first time that the attacks were "almost exclusively" carried out by men "of an immigrant background".

A bit of Irish Catholic humour

The first full week of 2016 has not been pleasant or funny. Muslims invading not just Europe but America, stock markets in meltdown around the world, crazy North Koreans threatening to blow us to Kingdom Come... and of course the weather. We need something to make us smile, and what better than a couple of stories about priests from the Ould Sod. Walt sends these out with a smile for Agent 9.

The Roman Catholic parish priest of a Belfast church was amazed to find two bigoted and drunken Orangemen outside his window at 2 a.m. "What do you want?" he called.
"Well, we wanted ye to tell us if it was tha Pope that called the Ecumenical council?"
"Look, come back in the morning and I'll discuss it when you're sober."
"Sure when we're sober, we don't give a damn about the Pope!"

Father Slevin stopped Mick on his way into the church. "Mick, could you come back tomorrow night for confession? We have hundreds in the church at the moment. You haven't committed a murder since the last time, have you?"
"Indeed I haven't, Father. I'll come back tomorrow night."
On his way out he met Declan. "Go home, Declan, and come back tomorrow. They're only hearing the murderers tonight."

Father O'Leary had given a long sermon to his congregation and he was apologizing to Padraig Corcoran.
"Don't apologize at all, Father," said Padraig with a grin. "Sure you've done a lot to shorten to winter."

The Protestant minister was impressed when he was shown over Father Quinn's new residence. "You know," he said, "this is far better than what my wife and I have at the parsonage."
"That's logical," replied Father Quinn. "Protestant ministers have better halves and Catholic priests have better quarters."

The little boy had been sitting close to the confession box door for a long time before Father Casey noticed him.
"Have you been listening to confessions all evening?" thundered the priest.
"Oh no, Father! I'm only here since the woman who slept with the sailor came out!"

And one more, not involving a priest, just an ordinary Irishman.

With two ingots of lead, one under each arm, Connor came down the gangplank of the cargo ship. Suddenly he slipped and fell into the water. As he came up for the first time, he called for a rope. Then he went down and came up again.
"Throw me a rope in the name of the seven saints of Aran," he yelled, and then went down once more.
He was about to sink once more when he made a final plea. "If yiz don't throw me a rope, I'll let go the lead!"

Catholic historian Hilaire Belloc foresaw Islamic jihad in 1938

On New Year's Eve, while Muslim "refugees" were assaulting and robbing women in Cologne and other European cities (see "Trump warns Germans after asylum-seekers' sex and crime spree"), Breitbart published an article by Thomas Williams, Ph.D., headed "Hilaire Belloc in 1938: Islam ‘the Most Formidable and Persistent Enemy’ of Western Civilization". It's timely reading precisely because of the events of that night.

Joseph Hilaire Pierre René Belloc (1870-1953) was known as an orator, poet, sailor, satirist, man of letters, soldier, political activist, historian and one of the most prolific writers in England during the early 20th century. He was President of the Oxford Union, and later a Member of the British Parliament from 1906 to 1910.

Dr. Belloc wrote on a vast range of subjects, from warfare to poetry to history to current affairs. He ranks among the "Big Four" of Edwardian Letters, along with the free-thinker H. G. Wells, the atheist George Bernard Shaw, and the traditional Catholic G. K. Chesterton. His Catholic faith had a strong impact on his works, and his vision into the heart of Catholic history is incisive and succinct. The year just past has proven him a great prophet, unheeded in his day and desperately needed now, as his vision of the future is played out in Europe and America.

That vision is contained in Dr. Belloc's 1938 book The Great Heresies, in which he saw almost a century ahead into the current day. He was convinced that Europe and America had forgotten about Islam to their own peril, and were unaware that the Muslim religion could rise again and pose perhaps the greatest threat of any enemy of the Western World. "It has always seemed to me possible, and even probable," he wrote in 1938, "that there would be a resurrection of Islam and that our sons or our grandsons would see the renewal of that tremendous struggle between the Christian culture and what has been for more than a thousand years its greatest opponent."

In the chapter titled "The Great and Enduring Heresy of Mohammed", he predicted the re-emergence of Islam as a global force and unparalleled foe of Christian civilization. "Less than a hundred years before the American War of Independence," he wrote, "a Mohammedan army was threatening to overrun and destroy Christian civilization." Thus there was no reason to think that Islam would not return to its former power, to become once again "the most formidable and persistent enemy which our civilization has had... as large a menace in the future as it has been in the past."

Dr. Belloc saw in his own time what is even more true nearly a century later, that European Christianity had sold out to "temporal things". He wrote, "There is no reason whatever why [Islam] should not learn its new lesson and become our equal in all those temporal things which now alone give us our superiority over it -- whereas in Faith we have fallen inferior to it."

And that's exactly what has happened. We have turned our backs on the Christian Faith that made the Western world strong. Meanwhile, the Muslims grow ever stronger, ever more fanatic, in their false and heretical religion. And, following the commands of Mohammed and the Holy Qu'ran, they are waging jihad -- holy war -- in our own lands.

They do not send whole armies against us, as they did centuries ago. Instead, they infiltrate our countries disguised as refugees and asylum-seekers, to wreak havoc, take over our cities and destroy us and our way of life. And what do we do? Welcome them with open arms! Surely it's time we heeded the warnings given to us by Hilaire Belloc, Enoch Powell, Charles de Gaulle and others who God blessed with the ability to look into the future.

Trump warns Germans after asylum-seekers' sex and crime spree

Germans -- real Aryan Germans -- are bitterly divided over the wave of sexual assaults, thefts and other crimes which rocked central Köln (Cologne) on New Year’s Eve. In spite of over-whelming evidence that the majority of the perps were Muslim immigrants and "refugees" from the Middle East and North Africa, there are still many guilt-ridden Krauts who defend Chancellor Merkel's "Willkommenskultur" policy of welcoming the migrants with open arms.

Growing numbers of protesters have taken to the streets of Köln and other German cities to demand that criminal foreigners be deported (und schnell!), and that bogus refugees and other scum be prevented from entering the Fatherland in the first place. But other crowds of "anti-racists" and "human rights activists" insist on blaming the police or the victims!

As Walt told you on Wednesday, Herr Inspektor Katzenjammer, after some politically correct hemming and hawing, admitted that the perpetrators were of "Arab or North African origin". In one report, police quoted a man as saying, "I’m a Syrian! You have to treat me kindly! Mrs. Merkel invited me."

By today, at least 106 women had come forward to file criminal complaints of sexual assault and robbery during the New Year’s Eve festivities. That includes two reported rapes. Police initially failed to mention the assaults in their presser the following morning, describing the festivities as "largely peaceful"!

Witnesses told a different story. German media quoted dozens of women who said they were followed by groups of men who groped them, tried to pull off their clothes and stole valuables. One victim told BBC News, "They grabbed our arms, pushed our clothes away, and tried to get between our legs or I don’t know where!"

Der Spiegel quotes an unidentified senior official of Germany’s national police as reporting a "chaotic and shameful" evening in which a lack of officers at the scene meant those there "reached the limits of their abilities pretty quickly.... Women, accompanied or not, literally ran a gauntlet through masses of heavily intoxicated men that words cannot describe." [Said he, using words to describe the scene. Ed.]

Authorities have, however, described the men as being largely of “Arab or North African origin.” According to the report, at least one officer quoted a man as saying: “I’m a Syrian! You have to treat me kindly! Mrs. Merkel invited me.”

Tobias Plate, a spokesthingy for the Ministry of the Interior, told reporters today that federal police have identified 18 out of 31 suspects as asylum-seekers. The suspects included 9 Algerians, 8 Moroccans, 5 Iranians, 4 Syrians, 2 Germans, and one person each from Iraq, Serbia and (wait for it) the USA. Yes, he said, most of the men detained were North African, but investigators had yet to "prove with concrete evidence" that they were actually involved, and people should not jump to conclusions! Some konfusie op die stasie, surely!

Thorsten Craemer, of the Bürgerbewegung PRO NRW political party, declared, "This is where Merkel’s irresponsible immigration policy will lead us. There will be battles for resources, confrontations far worse than what we’ve experienced on New Year’s Eve."

And what does Chancellor Merkel say? Yesterday she said she didn't think the New Year’s Eve events were isolated cases, and that they must be dealt with swiftly and firmly. She said she feared that the incidents showed contempt for women. Well, DUH! "We have to send out clear signals to those who are not willing to observe our laws," said Dr. Merkel. "We must examine again and again whether we have already done what is necessary in terms of...deportations from Germany in order to send clear signals to those who are not prepared to abide by our legal order."

Perhaps Chancellor Merkel should consider some advice offered yesterday by Donald Trump, who raised the issue on Twitter. "Germany is going through massive attacks to its people by the migrants allowed to enter the country," he wrote. "New Years Eve was a disaster. THINK!"

MH370 passengers alive and being held captive?

Is it possible... really... that the conspiracy theories surrounding the fate of missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 are right? Could it be... really... that the plane was hijacked and landed in a remote location, to be "repurposed", and that the passengers are alive and being held captive?

That theory sounds a bit far-fetched to me, but it's what some of the families of the missing pax (like those shown here, demonstrating in Beijing some months ago) believe.

In a statement released earlier this week, the families said they offered their forgiveness to whoever is holding the passengers, adding "We believe our loved ones may still be alive and are being held at an undisclosed location for unknown reasons. In the absence of proof to the contrary, we believe it is possible the missing may still be alive. If this is so, we would willingly grant to the perpetrators amnesty in return for the release of the missing."

The "official" story, according to Malaysian, Australian and French "authorities", is that the B-777 flew southwest from its last confirmed position for hours, until it (perhaps) ran out of fuel or (perhaps) was flown very gently and skilfully into the south Indian Ocean by its suicidal pilot(s). French officials claim that a flaperon which washed up on the shores of Réunion -- on the other side of said ocean, some 3000 miles of the area now being searched -- was from the missing aircraft.

In this week's statement, the families of the missing said they don't trust the official account of the incident. "We do not believe any of the series of official statements starting from March 24, 2014, up to and including that of September 3, 2015," they said. "There is no real proof justifying any of these statements." They urged that an investigation into exactly what happened be broadened and extended beyond June, which is when the official search for the missing plane is scheduled to end.

The problem with their request, as I see it, is that no investigation will uncover anything unless and until the relevant governments fess up. Who do I mean? Weellll... perhaps the Chinese, perhaps the Indians, or... more likely... the Americans who operate the gigantic military base on Diego Garcia. If the missing plane in fact landed somewhere on terra firma, I'll bet a dollar to your donut that's where it is.

The more likely explanation is that the Americans shot MH370 out of the sky, perhaps accidentally... perhaps not. See "Current thinking on MH370", WWW 31/7/15. (And please pardon the pun in the headline.)

Arab, African sex attackers make Germans rethink Willkommenskultur

Germans are marching in the streets again! But this time it's mostly women (and some men), marching in the streets of (Cologne) to protest numerous sexual assaults and thefts near the city's famous cathedral and Hauptranhof during New Year's Day "celebrations".

The Köln Express quotes Katja L., an eyewitness: "When we came out of the station, we were very surprised by the group that met us there. It was exclusively young foreign men. I linked arms with [another young woman] and her boyfriend. We then walked through this group of men, who opened up like a lane through which we had to go. Suddenly I felt a hand on my buttocks, then on my breasts, after all, I was groped everywhere. It was a nightmare. Although we shouted, and tried to defend ourselves, they did not stop. I was desperate and I think I was touched around 100 times in the 200 meters.

"The men shouted things like 'Ficki, Ficki!' and 'sluts'. I was lucky that I was wearing trousers and a jacket. If I had been wearing a skirt, it would have been torn away from me. Another girl we saw at the police station had had her pantyhose and panties almost completely torn from her body. I was devastated, angry, and scared at the same time. I hope that the police get to grips with these people, otherwise I will never go to a celebration in the city again."

Nearly 100 women have reported being sexually molested, threatened and robbed outside Cologne Cathedral by men of "Arab or North African" origin, police said yesterday. At first the lamestream press shied away from reporting the ethnic origin of the perps, but not the Express and others acknowledge that the assaults last week have prompted outrage in Germany and a fresh debate about immigration and the wisdom of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's "Willkommenskultur" -- opening arms (and legs?) in welcome to hordes of "refugees" from the Middle East and Africa.

Police said some of the assaults in Cologne appeared similar to incidents that have been reported over the past two years in Düsseldorf -- about 25 miles from Köln -- where non-Aryan men have groped women to distract them before stealing their belongings. Inspektor Katzenjammer said that since the start of 2014, officers there have identified more than 2,000 suspects of North African origin in connection with what he called "organized" thefts. He declined to say whether there have been any arrests in those cases, but added, "Ve haf vays of making zem talk!"

Because no-one has been arrested in either Düsseldorf or Köln, the official government line is that the nationality and residency status of the suspects is still unknown. [Ja! Das is politisch korrekten! Ed.] But according to Interior Ministry figures released just this morning, Germany registered nearly 1.1 million people as asylum-seekers last year. The "Köln incident" must surely give strength to the arguments of politicians -- and the marchers in the streets -- who are calling for limits on migration.

PC police shame "white men of the West" into silence

You can't call Ujjal Dosanjh a racist, or a white supremacist, or even a conservative right-wing nutjob. Born in a village in Punjab, India, he emigrated to the United Kingdom at the age of 17 before moving to Canada almost four years later. He worked numerous manual labour jobs and attended university, studying political science. He earned his law degree at the University of British Columbia and opened his own law firm.

Mr. Dosanjh is a card-carrying Liberal. He served as Premier of British Columbia from 2000 to 2001 and as a Liberal Member of Parliament from 2004 to 2011. A moderate member of Vancouver's large Sikh community, he has been a vocal opponent of violence and extremism.

Keep Mr. Dosanjh's background as you read some excerpts from his blog for January 2nd, headed "The silencing of the white men of the West!". He argues persuasively that by silencing white men in the name and through the power of poliltical correctness, Canada can’t have an honest debate about equality, race and culture. It's important you read this because what he says about Canada's PC police goes, in spades [Watch it! Ed.], for the USA and the rest of the West.

Mr. Dosanjh writes: What started as a legitimate change to bring about equality and transformation of how we viewed, treated and spoke about each other has now ossified into a rarely breached wall of silence; a silence reinforced by the onset of the West's indifference to its own - good, bad or ugly but - distinct societies, their values and norms; call it white man's burden or guilt; a guilt for the sins of the past now manifesting itself in the white man's fear.

But the real need for equality and social justice for all has also spawned the much despised political correctness preventing us from being honest with each other. Politicians afraid of  "ethnic backlashes" revel in silence policed by the so called multiculturalists who might be more appropriately called multicults - the practitioners of a fierce brand of exclusivist Multiculturalism that ought to be renamed Multicultism. Under these circumstances when politicians do speak they utter non sequiturs, simply bromides.

It seems some of us have so thoroughly shamed the white men into complete submission regarding our misplaced belief that Canada has no core identity or core values; so much so that even our Prime Minister won't defend what was so dear to his own father - what he had fought so hard for.

On matters of race, religion, culture and national identity of Canada the white men are reduced to either silence or non sequiturs. If the white men of Canada can't overcome the fear of rebuke from the enforcers of fear, Canadians can't ever have an honest debate about the state of equality, race, culture and the place and space for religion and other languages in Canada.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Or, if I had said it, I'd have been called a racist bastard, white supremacist, yada yada yada. And the PC police would be at my doorstep, if only they could locate my cabin in the pines.

VIDEO: Incredible Balkan-Klezmer-Gypsy-Party-Punk-Super Band

During the holidaze, Walt had the opportunity to travel a bit, checking out various holiday entertainments. Just by luck, I caught a performance by the Lemon Bucket Orkestra. They describe themselves as a Balkan-Klezmer-Gypsy-Party-Punk-Super Band. I describe them as a latter-day Ukrainian-Canadian incarnation of Spike Jones. Check out the video (running time about 34:30 -- hint, fast forward past the introduction) and you'll see why.

I say "Ukrainian-Canadian" but am not sure how many members are actually Ukies. It seems founding member Mark Marczyk (he's one!) met bartender and musician Michael Louis Johnson in 2009 after returning to Toronto from Kyïv, Ukraine. Mr. Johnson then introduced Mr. Marczyk to the Gypsy-Punk band Worldly Savages. Mr. Marczyk fiddled around with the Savages at afterparties for their shows, and other eventual members of the band, such as Tangi Ropars and Os Kar, joined in. The rest, as they say, is history.

Search "Lemon Bucket Orkestra" on YouTube and you'll find more great music, including one complete concert. I love this stuff!
