In "What does Walt read?", Ed. told you about some of the blogs I read regularly. One of them is Five Feet of Fury, written by the amazing Kathy Shaidle, who, to judge by the pic at the top of her blog, has described herself very well in the title.
Reading her blog today, it occurred to me that angry young women can get away with writing a lot of stuff that angry old men can't. What makes me think so? The lead post on FFoF today is about the circus masquerading as a trial of Jian Ghomeshi. Who he? A former CBC Radio personality who got sacked when some of his ex-girlfriends went to Inspector Knacker with stories of his predilection for "rough sex". That was what he called it. The cops call it "sexual assault".
Kathy's opinion is that Mr. Ghomeshi's "female 'victims' sounded like -- it pained me to agree with the guy -- bitter ex- or wannabe girlfriends. (As you had guessed: None of these “victims” called the cops after these “assaults,” some of which dated back over a decade.)" What headline does Kathy give to this piece? "My NEW Taki’s column — Ghomeshi-quiddick: The trial of the cunt-ury!"
Amazing! I couldn't get away with that. Could you, Ed.? [No way. Ed.] I can imagine what would happen if a male writer used the c-word to refer to a female. Accusations of sexism, summonses to appear before a "human rights tribunal", followed by banishment from the lamestream media pending the completion of remedial sensitivity training. Such is the politically correct world in which we live. That, by the way, is the gist of Mr. Ghomeshi's defence.

Surprise! Syrian refugees welcomed by Canada want to go home
Just before Hallowe'en, Walt revealed that "Middle East 'refugees' refuse to live in cold places". Duh. That explained, I said, why the Canadian government was having difficulty getting refugees from the Muslim civil wars to take them up on their offer of free airfares, free accommodation, clothing, meals, etc etc, if only they would bring a little more diversity to the Great Not-so-white North.
In this picture below, we see Canada's Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship -- in that order -- extolling the virtues of his native land to a typical Muslim family. "It's really swell in Canada, eh!" he may be saying. "The grass really is greener -- good Islamic green. And everyone will welcome you! Trust me!"
And so they came... 1000s of them. And, just as Walt predicted, some of them are already whining about the cold, the food, and the lack of "help" (read: money). A group staying on Canuck taxpayers' dime -- 70 cents in real money -- told Virginia Johnson, a volunteer trying to assist them, that feel like they're "trapped in a prison" without hope due to a lack of communication, supplies and assistance (read: more money).
Ms Johnson was interviewed this morning on CBC Radio's Toronto flagship, on Metro Morning, a programme relentless in its propaganda for multiculturalism, diversity, minority "rights", and helping the poor of every country but Canada.
She told ultra-PC host Matt Galloway [one of the Galloway Boys? Ed.] the 85 refugees have been at the hotel for weeks and have no idea when they will be able to leave. Some of them say they're not getting much help, and would rather go back to their refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon.
Speaking through a translator, a Syrian mother, Zaneb Adri Abu-Rukti, said "We were told that when we arrived to the hotel that we would only be staying for three to four days maximum. However, things have been changed and we've been here for 10 to 11 days, and we've been told it could be even longer."
Apparently Ms Abu-Rukti was under was under the impression they'd be getting a house. "We feel like our kids are just stuck here," she went on. "We go into one room, we eat, and then we return to other room and just go to bed. Our kids don't have anywhere to play, nowhere to go out. We feel like we're just trapped in a prison. I feel even though we chose to come out to Canada and it was something that we chose to do, it was our right and we chose it, however, it's not what we expected and it's not what we thought we would come into."
Unfortunately for her and the others, Ms Abu-Rukti is quite right. They made their choice and now they are as stuck with Canada as Canadians are stuck with them. As she told the interviewer, " Another lady asked to return and the Canadian Embassy said: 'There is no way you guys can return now.'"

"Message from God!"
I heard this on The Irrelevant Show, the funniest programme on CBC Radio -- not counting CBC Toronto's Metro Morning which doesn't mean to be funny but is so politically correct that it is funny...or not.
Please pay particular attention to the part in which God asks us to stop taking His name in vain. The Holy Name Society approves this message! So does Walt.

Playing the "Hitler card" in the debate over the Crimea
Everybody's doing it. Hellery Clinton did it. John McCain did it. Steve Harper did it. John "Nancy" Baird did it. Even Walt may have done it. [Ed., please check.] What's "it"? Comparing Putin's annexation of the Crimea -- to be confirmed by the illegal "referendum" in progress today -- with Hitler's invasion of the Sudetenland in 1938.Little did I know, when I wrote what I wrote [Ed., please check.] that "playing the Hitler card" has been done so much in the last half-century that an American lawyer by the name of Mike Godwin has formulated a law which defines it. I learned this reading "The Hitler analogy", by CBC Radio's Michael Enright. The article, which I assume was the script for today's Sunday Edition, is so good that I'm going to copy the whole thing below. I hope CBC won't mind.
For the past couple of weeks, we have been subjected in our media to a perfect unfolding of Godwin's Law. We have seen it illustrated by Hillary Clinton, Stephen Harper, Senator John McCain and Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird.
Each of these worthies has compared Russian President Vladimir Putin's adventurism in Ukraine and Crimea to Adolph Hitler's invasion of the Sudetenland in 1938.
Godwin's Law or Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies states, roughly, that in any discussion of a controversial subject, sooner or later somebody will make the comparison to Hitler and Nazism. Right-wing commentators follow up the Hitler/Putin reference by describing the West's anemic response to appeasement. We are back in 1939.
In my conversation with Russian expert Charles King last week, Professor King said nowadays in any international crisis, "You don't have countries going to war, you have analogies going to war."
The American lawyer and writer Mike Godwin formulated his thesis in 1990 after listening to Hitler comparisons on internet newsgroups. It is also known by other names; playing the Hitler card, for instance, and "reductio ad Hitlerium".
Another name for the practice is association fallacy. Which means, if I understand it, to ascribe behaviour we don't like to Hitler. For example, Hitler was a vegetarian, therefore vegetarianism is a bad thing. He was in favour of euthanasia, therefore euthanasia is wrong.
One result of this so-called fallacious analogy is to effectively and immediately shut down debate. If you or your argument is compared to Hitler and Nazism, there is very little incentive to continue arguing your point. There is no place to go after dropping the Hitler bomb.
In addition, it demonizes your opponent in debate. Nobody likes any association with Hitler or being called a Nazi. That's the reason that not many baby boys are being christened Adolph these days.
Putin has no intention of trying to conquer Europe, as far as I know. Nor is it part of his geopolitics to contemplate wiping out millions of Ukrainians, as Hitler did with Jews.
The whole idea of reductio ad Hitlerium was coined by the conservative philosopher Leo Strauss in 1951. He called it a fallacy of irrelevance. Not only irrelevant, but in the arena of high diplomacy, downright useless.
Without question Putin's moves have heightened world tensions...and it seems to make some kind of sense for Western powers to respond; but playing the Hitler card gets us nowhere.

CBC's "The House" reviews the Wrights and wrongs of l'affaire Duffy
Note from Ed.: This item is of interest only to Canadian political junkies. This does not include Ted Cruz, who is surely a political junkie and a Canadian (as of this writing) but we didn't mean it that way. If you're not fascinated by Canadian politics -- that's what we meant -- wait until tomorrow and we'll have something else.
This week's edition of CBC Radio's fine political programme, The House, was devoted entirely to the ongoing scandal over repayment by Nigel Wright -- formerly Chief of Staff to Canuck Prime Minister Steve "Stephen" Harper -- of expenses fraudulently claimed by the Honourable [sic] Mike "Mike" Duffy, the once and future senator from Prince Edward Island... or possibly Kanata, which is where Mr. Puffy lives.
The radio programme is well worth listening to in its entirety (about 52 minutes). It focuses on court documents filed by the Mounties in the course of their investigation into the scandal. You'll hear excerpts from a number of damning e-mails, read by actors portraying Mr. Right ["Wright", surely! Ed.] and others, as well as the Puffster's mendacious and self-serving speeches in the Senate.
Radio-Canada Ottawa bureau chief Emmanuelle Latraverse and CBC senior political correspondent Terry Milewski -- Walt likes Milewski a lot -- join host Evan Solomon for the journey and give their analysis of what it all means.
Before you listen, if this is all kind of new to you -- or if your eyes glazed over back in May or June -- you might take a look at Walt's previous posts on the subject:
"VIDEO: Rex hexes Canadian pols"
"Canucks too polite for their own good?"
"Print your own Duffybuck!"
"Emotional and over-refreshed, Senator Puffy denies having his snout too deep in the trough"
"Wright was wrong! Wright is gone! But WHY?!"
"'Bring me the head of Senator Duffy!'"
"Moron* Mike Puffy"
[That's enough Duff stuff. Ed.]

Hey whitey! You'll never work for the CBC again!
Canadians who listen to the CBC -- and yes, there are many -- are aware of its blatant liberal (and Liberal) bias in favour of all things politically correct.
Examples include CBC Radio's Toronto flagship station, proudly "sounding like Toronto looks", which means speaking with incomprehensible Caribbean and South Asian accents. For a while there they couldn't figure out how to pander to the LGBT community, but recently they've hired a couple of audibly gay "news reporters" -- Jermaine and Trevor -- who lisp their way through their cute little stories.
Even Hockey Night in Canada -- happy 60th anniversary!!! -- has a PC lineup of "analysts", including one blonde bimbo who seems unfamiliar with the players, and one black ex-player who is very careful not to sound too black.
That's right, nobody celebrates diversity like the CBC. But now we finally have confirmation of our suspicions that diversity and "minorities" are being promoted to the exclusion of straight white males. If you're one of those -- now an endangered species in Toronto -- you can forget about working for the CBC.
Where's Walt's proof? Why, right here!
That's a recruitment ad for the host of a children’s show -- Patty and Mamma Yama. It was placed on Craigslist by Larissa Mair Casting and Associates Inc., a casting agency hired by "Kids'CBC", whose logo appears in the ad.
In case you're having trouble reading it, the ad says you should "...only submit [an audition tape] if you match the following criteria: Male between the ages of 23-35 years; Any race except Caucasian."
A new version of the ad removes the race reference, but maintains the sex and age criteria, which Agent 3 says is contrary to Ontario's labour standards laws and the province's human rights code.
Why would the casting agency flout the laws enacted years ago to protect everyone from discrimination on the basis of gender, race, religion, age etc etc? Larissa Mair, the agency's chief cook and bottlewasher, is prepared to take the fall. She told the National Post "We were asked to seek a cast of diversity. We mistakenly took that to mean that the production was not seeking Caucasian actors. This was a mistake that was made entirely by the casting company."
Pretty big of Ms Mair to carry the can, because the truth is that the original ad is right on the money in its description of the kind of on-air personalities the CBC wants -- any race except white! Let's hear from Chuck "Chuck" Thompson, head of media relations for CBC English Services:
"At CBC, inclusion and diversity is a priority. This means reflecting Canada and its regions as well as the country’s multicultural and multiracial nature... We are now reaching out to our partners in production to ensure that a concerted and documented effort be made…to cast actors who reflect Canada’s diversity."
In other words, no whites need apply. Any white man who has applied for this or any other in-front-of-the-camera job at CBC and got as far as the interview stage is invited to let Walt know. I'm always happy to set the record straight. (Lifetime pct .990)
Update: Further proof positive of the CBC's anti-white anti-male bias emerged today. Check out "The CBC’s ‘no whites’ policy is a mistake, but no accident" by Matt Gurney, in today's National Post. Matt! Take it to the Human Rights Commission!
And just by coincidence... the mailman [letter carrier! Ed.] brought Walt's Economist today. Its cover story is a "briefing" called "Time to scrap affirmative action". There's an editorial (or "leader", as the Brits say) with the same title. Here's a quote: "If Barack Obama's daughters apply to a university, judge them on their academic prowess, not the colour of their skin." More on this anon.

CBC Radio needs to demonstrate commitment to multicult
Memo to Susan Marjetti, station manager of CBC Radio One, Toronto. (Walt knows that -- as a toon always responds to shave-and-a-haircut -- you can't resist reading something with your name in it.)
Susan, you have not yet demonstrated to the Canadian Ministry of Enforced Diversity that you have done everything possible to make your station "sound like Toronto looks".
The problem is that it's radio, not TV. Some of the presenters and guests, especially on your execrable morning drive-time show, may well be members of oppressed minority groups, but we don't always know that. We can't see whether they're brown, black, white or striped.
It's pretty easy to pick out the Jamaicans, Colombians, Indians and gays by sound along. But some of the accents are indistinguishable, at least to Walt's Toronto-based agents. It's hard to tell the Congolese from the Haitians. And some of the less recently arrived vizmins have virtually no accent, so they sound pretty much "white-bread"...or white-bred.
There's a problem though with the LGBT crowd, not so much the hissing homos but the lesbians, who sometimes sound like, errr, female business executives. And let's not forget the disabled, "locomotion-challenged", "vision-impaired" or whatever the latest PC terms are. Unless they say something like "I'm blind", how are listeners supposed to know.
So, here's Walt's suggestion. At the start of each interview or commentary, could the host please say which box is being checked, like this: "The next speaker is a black, transgendered, homeless double amputee." Then we can keep score, kind of like listening to a baseball broadcast.
Yours for diversity... Walt

My kind of music
Readers will have noted my sympathy for listeners to CBC Radio whose ears are affronted by "black music". Agent 3 writes to ask what kind of music Walt would choose, were he in charge of programming for a supposedly mainstream radio network.
Obviously the question calls for an audio response. But here on the Inner Net audio without video is ... well ... unthinkable. I mean, it would be OK for Walt's blind readers, but ... errr ...
You get the picture. If not, here's the picture now, to go with the music.
Give it up for multiple Grammy winner, the polka king, St. Catharines' own Walter Ostanek! Say, folks, doesn't that bring back memories? Buffalo TV stations used to have live "polka party" shows every weekend! Yep, sandwiched in between the live bowling shows. Ah, those were the days.
Yes, Walt would definitely put some polkas on the playlist, along with some nice waltzes, and maybe the odd obarek. That would go a long way to satisfying the CBC's demand for multiculturalism too, eh.
Prefer some real down-home American music?
Stanley & Co. from beautiful downtown Townley, AL. Folks, that's what you call gospel bluegrass. When was the last time you heard anything like that on your effete big city rangdeedio? Got the "religious right" base covered too.
If you liked that -- and why wouldn't you? -- you'll find dozens of homespun versions of that fine old gospel song on YouTube. Just Google "I'll Fly Away".
Want to have some fun? Mix yourself up a CD of that kind of music -- the music of the silent majority -- and be silent no longer! Plug the CD in your car stereo, turn the volume up to "deafen" and drive through the `hood.
Don't stop. Have fun.
Footnote: This is post number 700. Had enough yet? Send an e-mail with "More!" or "No more!" in the subject line to walt.whiteman@yahoo.com. The wishes of the majority will be respected. Or maybe not... like the CBC!

Fed up with CBC Toronto? Contact Susan!
Following the appearance of "CBC to white audience: if you don't like CBC Toronto, move!", Walt heard from a number of disgruntled denizens who are fed up with the steady stream of black news [excluding the crime news. Ed], black spokespersons and black "music" on CBC Toronto's drivetime radio shows.
You're welcome to complain to me, but the person who should really be getting your irate comments is Susan Marjetti -- wrong identified as Susan Marjerine in the previous post -- who is Managing Director of Local Programming at CBC Toronto. Her phone number is 416-205-5791. You'll find an e-mail link here. Or you can write by snail mail to: Susan Marjetti, CBC Toronto, P.O. Box 500, Toronto, Ontario, M5W 1E6.
When calling or writing, try to be polite and not use any politically incorrect language. I'm not sure you're even allowed to say "black". What you might do, though, is remind Ms Marjetti that whites have rights too!
Hey... that's not a bad slogan! WHITE HAVE RIGHTS TOO! Wonder if any politician or party will have the cojones to adopt it. You're welcome.

CBC to white audience: if you don't like CBC Toronto, move!
A few days ago the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation announced its relaunch as TMN. Today brings another announcement from the Corpse, this time directed at listeners to its Toronto flagship radio station.
A just-released audience survey has revealed that the majority of listeners to the Toronto outlet of CBC Radio One are white, middle-class, avid gardeners, and like listening to MOR (Middle of the Road) music.
Unfortunately for them, and for the CBC, the local programmes aired on the Toronto station -- particularly in the morning and afternoon "drive time" slots -- are aimed squarely at Toronto's vizmins. As Walt reported previously, CBC's Metro Morning and Here and Now have been ordered to make their programmes "sound the way Toronto looks".
That means a steady diet of rap, reggae and hip hop. (Notice I didn't say "music".) It also means that the producers will not rest until every living, breathing vizmin and LGBT spokesthingy has been given 5 or 10 minutes to preach the gospel of diversity and political correctness. No wonder that the neglected white audience tunes in for the news and weather and promptly tunes out again.
Now, Walt can reveal, the CBC has come up with an answer to the many complaints of its former listeners. Those who don't like the sound of TMN Toronto are being advised to relocate to western or eastern Ontario, where they can be served by local broadcasts originating in Windsor, London or Ottawa.
Said Managing Director Susan Marjerine, "Naturally, there will be protests from the usual 'Fed Up in Rosedale' dinosaurs, but they must be ignored in the cause of building a diversity template that reflects our multicultural Toronto audience demographic."
Asked what she meant by that, Ms Marjerine replied that she had no idea and would get back to Walt next week.

It also means that the producers will not rest until every living, breathing vizmin and LGBT spokesthingy has been given 5 or 10 minutes to preach the gospel of diversity and political correctness.

CBC to be renamed TMN Canada
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation -- known across Canada as "the Corp" [corpse, surely! Ed.] -- has released its fecal roster: "17 RETURNING SHOWS FOR THE 2011-12 SEASON" Even if you ignore the block capitals and the bad grammar, the announcement is not exactly BIG NEWS. It ranks right up there with "CBC INVESTIGATION CATCHES BEAR DEFECATING IN WOODS" and "CBC REVEALS POPE HAS CATHOLIC LEANINGS".
One of the "shows" which is being renewed for a 40th season [Is this right? Doesn't it just seem like 40? Ed.] is the truly execrable Little Mosque on the Prairie, which Walt has excorciated before as the paradigm of the Canadian failure at sitcoms.
The premise of Little Mosque is ludicrous, the writing lame and the acting cataleptic. Audience numbers are said to be lower than Bev Oda's IQ. Walt hears that sponsors are forced to buy it as part of packages with better-rated programmes. So why does it keep getting renewed?
The only reason I can think of is that to cancel it would be politically incorrect -- a slap in the face to muticulturalism, which in spite of its admitted failure in other countries is still the official policy of the government of Canada -- and therefore the CBC.
Those in the Toronto area who still listen to the radio are treated to CBC Toronto's no less PC Metro Morning, which will not rest until it has interviewed every single vizmin and LGBT spokesthingy in the Wormy Apple. Why? Because CBC must "sound like Toronto looks". No kidding. They use that as an advertising tag line.
Will the insanity never stop? Rumour has it that the Corpse's next announcement will be a change of name to The Multicultural Network Canada -- a "TMN" to compete with CNN and TSN. PBUT.

CBC Toronto: voice of the ghetto?
Walt listens to CBC Radio. For readers outside of Canada, CBC is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (sometimes referred to as the Canadian Broadcorping Castration), the government-owned public broadcaster. CBC's Radio One has a number of excellent news and current affairs programs -- As It Happens, The House, The Current -- some of which are picked up by NPR or models for NPR programs.
Since the CBC network stretches over six time zones, from coast to coast to coast -- A mari usque ad mare and all that -- it naturally has local programming suitable to the differing needs of audiences in Toronto and "the regions".
The top programs on Toronto's "flagship station" are Metro Morning (the wake-up show) and Here and Now (the drive-home show). Both programs feature affable hosts, friendly on-air personalities and lots of news and chatter.
In recent years, though, in the CBC's eternal quest to be all things to all people, they've started to include bits of "music" in what used to be an all-talk format. And since CBC Toronto panders shamelessly to its "vizmin" audience (both of them), the so-called "music" is mostly what I would call "ghetto pop". If it's not black African, then it's black American, or African-American (the ultimate oxymoron). Every now and then, for a change, we get some salsa or other Latin-American sounds.
Walt is sick, sore and tired of it! If we must have music (why?), then how about some music for the rest of us? How about some chansons canadiennes? Or down-east fiddling? Or country? Or, if we must "sing with many voices", how about some μπουζούκι? Or a polka or Гопак? Or a tarantella or a Bollywood number or something in Chinese? Anything but this endless stream of "ghetto music" -- another oxymoron!
Memo to Susan Marjetti, Regional Director of CBC Radio: You have listeners outside Toronto's black and Latino ghettos! "Multiculturalism" includes our cultures too!
