Canadian government budget statement
As a service to our Canadian readers, who may not have heard or understood the Liberal government's budget, released last week, we repost the statement released the next day by Chrystia Freeland, the lady in the tight red dress and also alleged Minister of Finance.

UPDATED: Canada's feminist PM demotes blonde bimbos
Immediately upon his election four years ago, Canada's allegedly metrosexual, avowedly feminist and decidedly woke Prime Minister Just In Trudeau vowed to have equal numbers of men and women in his cabinet. Gender identity thus became Priority One, ahead of intellect, experience and competence.
The result was the appointment of Chrystia Freeland and Catherine McKenna as Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Environment respectively. The two bottle blondes quickly became the most loathed and reviled members of the government of Canuckistan.
Chrystia Freeland, who represents an uber-elite riding in downtown Toronto, distinguished herself by:
- Throwing a "These people are impossible!" hissy fit when attempting to negotiate a trade agreement with the European Union
- So annoying American officials trying to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement that they suggested it would be better if she stopped attending the meetings
- Pissing off the Saudis by demanding (!) the release of human rights activists jailed for violating the Oil Kingdom's laws
- Appearing in public in a white dress with bodice so tight that bumps looking like nipples were clearly visible to those who didn't avert their eyes.
Catherine McKenna, who was re-elected in an Ottawa riding where 98% of the voters work for the federal government, and know enough not to bite the hand that feeds them, quickly earned the sobriquet "Climate Barbie" for her hysterical rants about the imminent destruction of Mother Earth. She:
- enraged Western Canadians by suggesting that the oil on which their economy depends ought to be left in the ground
- opposing the construction of new pipelines (success!) and the expansion of the existing Trans-Mountain pipeline (partial success)
- passing a regulation further limiting the number of polar bears Inuit [former "Eskimo". Ed.] hunters could take, in the face of their testimony that polar bears are no more endangered than they were 50 years ago
- calling Canadians who didn't believe that in climate change ignorant and "unpatriotic"
- demanding that the meeja and other Canucks stop calling her "hateful names" like "Climate Barbie" and, errr, the C-word which was spray-painted on her constituency office the night of her re-election.
Canucks and others who find all this a bit hard to believe are invited to check out Walt's numerous sarcastic and disparaging posts about Ms Freeland and Ms McKenna.
But there's good news coming today for long-suffering Canucks. In about six hours, Prime Minister Trudeau will draw back the curtain to reveal his new and improved (???) cabinet. Apparently somewhat chastened by his rejection in large swathes of the Great No-longer-white North (not one Liberal elected in Alberta or Saskatchewan), Mr Socks is expected to shuffle Ms Freeland and Mr McKenna off centre stage, to positions in the wings, behind the potted plants.
Foreign Affairs magazine named Ms Freeland "Diplomat of the Year" for 2018. Walt's agent in the world's second-coldest capital city says that by this afternoon, the would-be successor to Mr Socks will be employing her diplomatic skills "domestically". Canada's constitution doesn't provide for a "Deputy Prime Minister", but rumour has it that the position, heretofore filled on an ad hoc basis by whoever was willing to take one for the team, will now be made official, complete with office, staff, limousine, all the stuff that Ms Freeland got used to while swanning around the capitals of the world as Foreign Affairs/Global Affairs Minister. She will thus enjoy all the influence that Vice-President Pence has in the US of A.
It's unclear where Ms McKenna will be going, except that it won't be Environment/Climate Change or Natural Resources. Some wags say that Greta Thunberg will be made an honorary Canuck and appoint to the Senate, so to become the new Minister for Deindustrialization, but somehow I doubt that. (Lifetime pct .982.) Ms McKenna will probably get something where her sensitivity to the needs of ordinary working-class Canadians can be put to good use. Minister of Revenue, perhaps. Or Minister of Refugees, Immigration and Citizenship. (There is such a ministry. Walt wouldn't kid you.)
Once the new and improved cabinet is installed, Prime Minister Trudeau is expected to take his family on a long overdue vacation to visit with his friend George Soros on the Aga Khan's private island in the Caribban. [Ed., please check. Didn't they already do that?]
UPDATE ADDED 22/11/19: This guide to the Trudeau government's new ministries appeared atop Chris Selley's column in today's National Post.

VIDEO: Canuck government hides failure of Syrian "refugees" to adapt
One of the grandiose, virtue-signalling promises Justin "Mr Socks" Trudeau made on his way to becoming Prime Minister of Canada was that, by the end of 2015, he (meaning the Canadian taxpayer) would welcome 25,000 "refugees" from the Muslim civil war in Syria. Coming as it did only days after a picture of the corpse of a little kid washed up on the shores of Greece drew tears from right-thinking people all over the world, that promise was a big factor in getting the Gliberals elected.
And so it came to pass that planeloads of "refugees" started arriving in Toronto just in time for Christmas. Mr Socks was prominent in almost daily photo ops with smiling Syrian refugees, such as doctors and, errr, well, never mind. They're all great people, Just In assured a gullible nation, and will make a great contribution to Canada -- so much so that another 25,000 would be welcomed in 2016! "Diversity is our strength" became the Liberal catch-phrase, repeated by Mr T and all his minions day after day, ad nauseam.
Canada's Auditor-General, Michael Ferguson, suggested that the government keep track of the 25,000 or 50,000 refugees they dumped into the middle of the Canadian winter, to see how they were adjusting to life in the Great No-longer-white North. Were the mostly Arabic-speaking refugees learning English or French? Were they working (ha!), going to school, or just sitting in their government-provided houses, receiving social assistance?
It would be nice for Canadian taxpayers to know those things, but a cone of silence has been dropped by the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship -- the name says it all! -- over the fate of the "refugees". After more than two weeks of inquiries by Postmedia, a government flak-catcher acknowledged that the ministry has not produced any report in almost two years on the degree to which the "refugees" have been able to integrate into Canadian society.
In this video (running time 4:10), the Vancouver Sun's Douglas Todd tells of his efforts to get the truth (or any information at all) from the Trudeau Gliberals. Check it out.

Canadian ISIS fighters to be welcomed home, "reintegrated" into society
Canadian defence minister Harjit Singh Sajjan, pictured, is a devout Sikh, an adherent to one of the two religions identified by many Canadians as being detrimental to their society. (The other one is... wait for it... Islam. See "Poll: Most Canadians think Islam, Sikhism bad for their society", WWW 17/11/17.) Not that that has anything to with his government's decision to welcome back Canadian citizens who went to the Middle East to fight for ISIS. That's a case of collective insanity, a decision made by Junior Trudeau's Liberal, feminist, Islamophile cabinet. At the end of 2015, the Canuck government said its alleged intelligence service was aware of about 180 individuals "with a nexus to Canada" who had travelled overseas to join ISIS, al-Qaeda and other groups of Islamic terrorists. Another 60 were thought to have gone to the sandpit and then returned to Canada. Now, with the almost total collapse of ISIS in Iraq and Syria over the last few months, the question arises of what to do with the 15 dozen or so bitter-enders, who are likely to return to the Great No-longer-white North.
How about killing them before they can return? A modest and reasonable suggestion, you would think. And not without precedent. Britain, France, Australia and the Paranoid States of America all have policies such as were described by Brett McGurk, the special envoy for the fight against ISIS appointed by the Prez, now serving under President Trump. On a recent visit to Syria he told the press, "Our mission is to make sure that any foreign fighter who is here, who joined ISIS from a foreign country and came into Syria, that they will die here in Syria."
Rory Stewart, the British minister of international development, spoke to the BBC last month about citizens who chose to leave the country to join ISIS. "I'm afraid we have to be serious about the fact these people are a serious danger to us," he told the interviewer. "These are people who are executing people...who have held women and children hostage, who are torturing and murdering, trying, by violence, to impose their will. Our response has to be, when somebody does that, I'm afraid, to deal with that. Unfortunately the only way of dealing with them will be, in almost every case, to kill them."
According to Christian Leuprecht, an expert on terrorism and security at Canada's Royal Military College, "Australia is another country that's taken the same approach — that they would prefer that those individuals who've been identified as foreign fighters not return home." Even the French surrender monkeys are working to eradicate their jihadis overseas. A Wall Street Journal investigation published in May quoted French and Iraqi officials describing French special forces co-operating with Iraqi units to hunt down and kill French jihadis.
The Canadian government -- notorious now for making Islamic terrorists into multi-millionaires -- is taking the a different approach. Unlike their allies in the fight against Islamic extremism, the Canucks do not have a policy of targeted assassination for its foreign fighters. Poor old Ralph Goodale, the Public Safety Minister and Designated Apologist for the Trudeau Liberals, appeared on CBC's Power & Politics yesterday to do a little virtue-signalling. "Canada does not engage in death squads," he said. But, he admitted, "with the battlefield activity winding down, there is a very real question about where the foreign fighters go, and all of our allies, whether they're in the Five Eyes or the G7, we've all agreed to collaborate very carefully."
Meaning what, exactly? Well, Mr Goodale said, anyone -- born in Canada or from elsewhere -- who poses a terrorist risk will be viewed "with the greatest of seriousness" by Canada's intelligence, security and police agencies. So there! As Mr Goodale spoke, Minister Sajjan told gabfest on international security at Halifax, "We will make sure that we put every type of resource into place so Canadians are well protected."
Meaning what, exactly? Well, they'll be allowed to come back to Canada, where they will be "deradicalized" and "reintegrated" into Canadian society, in hopes that they will live peacefully ever after. Does that sound like a plan? Or does it just sound like an extreme case of naïveté?
Christian Leuprecht says deradicalization programmes are highly controversial and there is little empirical evidence that they work. In any case, Canada doesn't have such a programme. In June, the Canuck government launched, with much fanfare, the Canada Centre for Community Engagement and Prevention of Violence. Unfortunately, it does not handle individual cases, but "supports initiatives by other levels of government and organizations across Canada." A spokesthingy for Mr Goodale's ministry says it also supports "action-orientated research", whatever that means.
The CBC reports that to date, only two returnees, Pamir Hakimzadah and Rehab Dughmosh, have been charged with leaving Canada to participate in terrorism. Four more men, some of whom may be dead, have been charged in absentia. To date, no Canadian has been successfully prosecuted for travelling to Syria or Iraq to join a terror group. More than 200 Canadian "terrorist travellers" have faced no legal consequences in Canada.
Says Mr Leuprecht of the terror, "They're not stupid. They know that CSIS [the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service -- hah!] will likely monitor them using wiretap warrants, on grounds of reasonable suspicion. And you can use that sort of warrant for up to six months. And if CSIS can't show that there are grounds for keeping that warrant in place, then normally it won't be renewed."
Walt wishes the Canucks good luck with all that. And when a follower of the Prophet shouts "Allahu akbar!" and drives a U-haul truck into a crowd of pedestrians on Yonge Street, please don't say, "Wooooah! We didn't see that coming!"

Canuck payouts to terrorists set to rise to C$50 million this year
Meet Djamel Ameziane, a pretty smart Algerian guy who's discerned the path to financial freedom. He aims to follow in the footsteps of his co-religionists (= Muslims) Omar Khadr, Muayyed Nureddin, Abdullah Almalki, and Ahmad Elmaati, each of whom has been enriched to the tune of over C$10,000,000 (nearly $7.9 million in real money) by the Canadian government (read: Canadian taxpayers) in settlements arising from their completely unjustified treatment at the hands of US and Canadian military and security agencies. In spite of having been found guilty of the murder of Sgt. Chris Speer, Mr Khadr got over C$10 million in a settlement which made even members of the pro-Islamist Liberal Party of Justin "Junior" Trudeau squirm. See "Canuck ministers struggle to defend payout to Muslim terrorist", WWW 7/7/17 (includes video).
Last month, the other three Muslim Canadians became instant multimillionaires, who M Trudeau said had been "wrongfully accused of links to terrorism and tortured in Syria and Egypt" after being fingered by the Mounties and Canada's alleged spy agency. See the footnote following "The irreversible browning of Canada", WWW 26/10/17 and "Canadians rightfully angry after Ottawa pays $31.25M to men falsely imprisoned in Syria", Global News, 26/10/17 (includes video). [I should've made that a separate post. Ed.]
Mr Ameziane is no dummy. Although he was never charged with anything or convicted of anything, he did some time at Gitmo, so, with four precedents to bolster his claim, he lawyered up and ran quickly to get to the courthouse door, where this morning he filed suit for not 10, not 20, but 50 million beaverbucks, for violation of his rights. His statement of claim alleges that Canada's security services co-operated with their American counterparts even though they knew the Americans were abusing him.
M Ameziane's lawyer said the Canuck government's recent out-of-court settlement with Omar Khadr over violation of his rights has prevented scrutiny of Canada's alleged complicity in abuses at Guantanamo Bay. All his client seeks, the ambulance-chaser said, is an enquiry, so "the Canadian public can come to understand the extent to which Canada is responsible for the torture of innocent detainees in the aftermath of 9/11."
An enquiry, yes, and financial compensation, of course. "My current situation is really bad, I am struggling to survive," M Ameziane told Canadian Press from his home in Algeria. "I was repatriated from Guantanamo and left like almost homeless. I couldn’t find a job because of the Guantanamo stigma and my age, so a settlement would be very helpful to me to get my life back together."
Let's do the math. In excess of C$40,000,000 has been paid out to four Islamists... so far. Let's suppose that M Ameziane gets the same payout as the four who have gone before him. That would bring the total to over C$50,000,000. And even as I write, other claimants are coming forward. There is talk of a class action lawsuit, causing Canadian barristers to rub their palms together so hard that they risk setting fire to the cuffs of their silk shirts. But so long as M Trudeau, on behalf of all "old stock Canadians", keeps flagellating himself and crying "GUILTY, GUILTY, GUILTY!", Canuck taxpayers (a class which excludes wealthy friends of the prime minister) can expect no relief.

VIDEO: Canuck Minister tells The Rebel to stop calling her names
As part of his plan for the wussification of his country, Canada's self-proclaimed feminist Prime Minister Trudeau decided that at least half of his cabinet should be women (or wimmin) "because it's 2015". One minister who qualified because of what she has between her legs rather than in her head is Catherine Mary McKenna, who was appointed Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and has been focusing on the second part of her title, rather than the first, ever since.
Ms McKenna has annoyed the many Canucks who are skeptical about the "science" behind her hysterical cries that the sky is falling by labelling them "deniers", among other things. The Rebel Media has replied in kind by calling the Minister "Climate Barbie", a name which for some reason she finds offensive. In an exchange with Rebel reporter Christopher Wilson yesterday, the fragile snowflake demands that his organization stop it, STOP IT!
Walt's comment: C'mon you Rebel guys. Can't you see she's melting, SHE'S MELTING?! She can't help the way she looks, and really, not all bottle blondes are airheads.

Questioning the CBC's love affair with Chrystia Freeland
Chrystia Freeland? Who she? For readers outside of Canada (and many inside!) Walt will explain. The fragrant and unbearably smug Christina "Chrystia" Freeland is Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs (or "Global Affairs", whatever the new PC term is). She started out as Minister of International Trade in the first government of Justin "Junior" Trudeau, and was "elevated" in 2017 after demonstrating a lack of talent for international negotiations on free trade. See "Vote NO MA'AM!", WWW 25/10/16 and "Bill Maher calls BS on 'shared values' with Muslims", WWW 18/4/16. Walt regrets that Ms Freeland's minion have succeeded in having the video of her appearance with Bill Maher deleted. As I remember it, he made her look like a fool who knows next to nothing about the real world. One of our agents was trying to make the same point in the "Comments" section of some articles on the CBC News website. He called out Ms Freeland for being a "limousine liberal" -- a useful idiot who knows next to nothing about the real world. Our agent has been trying for a week or so to get the CBC to print that comment -- just the "limousine liberal" part -- or anything close to it. Here's what happened.
By "pinked", our agent means his comment got "disabled". That's the word that appears in the PINK bar. Geddit? But why? What's so offensive about "limousine liberal" or the coded version of the phrase used here by our agent? Here are two more screen grabs.
You have to give our agent full marks for perseverance, eh. But he's now given up, and appeals to Walt for help. What he wants to know (but can't ask the CBC since there's no way to contact the moderators) is whether the Corp's list of prohibited comments includes any negative reference of any kind to the Honourable Chrystia Freeland. The supplementary question -- assuming the answer to the first to be "yes" -- is WHY? Why is the CBC so in love with Ms Freeland that even the mildest of snarks about her is verboten?
In one case, the mere mention of her name got "pinked". What about free speech? Why is Ms Freeland above criticism? Anyone from the CBC who wishes to answer these questions is free (geddit?) to use Walt's comments section. All you have to do is click on the headline, and the box will appear. We're waiting.

VIDEO: Canuck ministers struggle to defend payout to Muslim terrorist
Further to Walt's earlier post about the shameful and cowardly apology handed out this week to Islamic terrorist Omar Khadr (along with a cheque of C$10.5 million!), here's Brian Lilley, from TheRebel Media, asking some pertinent questions. Watch Ralph Goodale and Judy Wilson-Reybould squirm trying to defend the indefensible.
Canuck Conservative leader condemns Khadr payoff
Turns out that even as Walt was writing yesterday's post, adding in the link to the petition against the outrageous payout to an Islamic terrorist who murdered one American and wounded another, the deal had already gone down! The payment of C$10.5 million (just over US$8 million) was made yesterday, but not announced officially until today. By now the money is doubtless offshore, where the lawyers for Sgt. Chris Speer can't get at it. [Maybe it's on its way to ISIS? Ed.]
The whole thing smells. It was a deal done in secret, for motives which the Liberal cabinet ministers are having a hard time defending. The chief reason, as the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety, tells it was that it would have cost even more to keep fighting Mr Khadr's lawyers in the courts. Even then, neither Mr Goodale nor the Honourable Judy Wilson-Reybould (appointed because she's both a woman and an Indian... oops, First Nations Person) would confirm the amount of the hush money. "That's part of the settlement and it's confidential," said Ms Wilson-Reybould.
Mr Goodale and Ms Wilson-Reybould were shoved out from behind the curtain to face the press in the absence of the Right Honourable Justin "Junior" Trudeau, who is conveniently out of the country schmoozing with Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron at the G-20 talking shop in Hamburg, Germany. Ms Chrystia Freeland, the useless Minister of Foreign Affairs (or Global Affairs or whatever the latest PC name is), signed the official statement along with Mr Goodale, but was nowhere to be found when it came time to cast a few pearls before the Canadian taxpayers.
Also worth noting is the fact that the whole sordid story leaked out -- conveniently, again -- just after the Canuck Parliament rose for the summer recess, so MPs will have no opportunity to ask embarrassing questions (let alone hold any kind of debate) until the honourable members resume their "work" in the fall. But that didn't stop newly-minted Conservative leader Andrew Scheer from making a statement of his own. Click here to see what he had to say.

The government didn’t want to be associated with it. They wanted it done swiftly. And they didn’t want Trudeau on the same continent when the news broke."

Canada to pay Muslim terrorist C$10.5 million for killing US soldier
This story broke earlier this week. I'm commenting only today because at first I couldn't believe it. I'm only just now getting my head around it.
The man on the right is Omar Khadr -- Canadian citizen, Muslim fanatic, former "child soldier" fighting with Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. The man on the left [appropriately. Ed.] is self-styled "global citizen" Justin Trudeau, son and heir of Pierre Himself and now Prime Minister of the Not-so-great Not-so-white North.
Justin Trudeau is an Islamophile -- not an Islamophobe but an Islamophile, meaning he loves Islam and the followers of the Prophet. It seems he never met a Muslim he didn't like (especially those who vote), including Omar Khadr. So great is the regard that M Trudeau and his alleged government have for Mr Khadr that they are about to give him C$10,500,000 (= over $8 million in real money) in "compensation" for having his "Charter rights" violated by the governments of Canada and the USA. (No word yet on whether the American government will be asked to pony up part of the loot.)
What happened is this. Although only a lad of 15, Mr Khadr was able to raise a pretty good crop of chin whiskers, so immediately when to the Middle East sandpit to join his fanatical Muslim brethren in the fight against the evil Christian crusaders. In July of 2002, following a firefight at a suspected al-Qaeda compound in Afghanistan, American troops captured the badly wounded Islamist, who, they claimed, had thrown a grenade that killed Sgt. Chris Speer, a medic with the US special forces. Mr Khadr was shipped off to Guantanamo Bay, where, in 2010, her pleaded guilty to charges that included the murder of Sgt. Speer, and was sentenced to a further eight years in custody.
Almost before the door slammed on Mr Khadr's cell at Gitmo, the usual gang of snowflakes and SJWs in Canada and the USA started demanding his release. He was only a child, they said. He was being tortured, they said. (He later said he confessed just to get out of Guantanamo Bay.) His civil rights were being violated, the Americans said. His Charter rights were being violated, the Canadians said, and he's a Canuck, so shouldn't be in the USA at all. Thus the start of the "Bring Omar home" movement.
After years of litigation and negotiation, Omar Khadr was finally returned to Canada in 2012 and sent to a maximum-security prison. He was grated bail in May of 2015, pending an appeal in the USA of his military commission conviction. The appeal is still pending. Meanwhile, as part of the litigation just referred to, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled in 2010 that Canadian intelligence officials obtained evidence from the poor lad under "oppressive circumstances", such as sleep deprivation, during interrogations at Gitmo in 2003. Worse still, they shared that evidence with American officials. The horror!
Also meanwhile (in 2004) Mr Khadr's lawyers filed a C$20-million lawsuit against the Canadian government, arguing it had violated international law by not protecting its own citizen and, worse yet, conspired with the US in the wrongful imprisonment and abuse of the young Muslim "victim". The "abuse" may have included giving him nothing to read but the Holy Qu'ran and Playboy. Whatever... the Conservative government of Steve Harpoon stoutly resisted the lawsuit, but now that Mr Selfie is in power, things are looking up for the poor oppressed Muslims of Canada and the world. Very much so for Mr Khadr, who will get just over half of the amount claimed in his suit, plus the customary profuse apology.
Amidst this incredible perversion of justice, there is one small ray of sunshine. In 2015, in an American court, Sgt. Speer's widow won an award of $134.2 million for wrongful death. Her lawyers have filed an application in Canada for enforcement of that judgment, as well as an injunction which would divert any money given to Mr Khadr to her and Sgt. Layne Morris, who was blinded by the same grenade.
Mr Khadr, meanwhile, is out of jail, and is reported to be studying to become a nurse. Paying tuition won't be a problem for him, and I expect that on graduation he will do the right thing and volunteer to join the Canadian forces in Iraq, perhaps as a medic. Yeah.
If you find the payout to Canada's newest multi-millionaire offensive, SIGN THE ONLINE PETITION put up by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. Over 50,000 disgusted Canucks have done so already (noon today). The Gliberals have a long history of ignoring public opinion because as "progressives", they know what's best. But who knows? Maybe this time.
Canucks! Tell your government what you think about immigration!
Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship -- seriously, that's his title, in that order -- John McCallum visited the ghetto that is Brampton, Ontario recently to announce that the very progressive government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Himselfie is ready to introduce changes to the current immigration system. Top of their multiculti agenda, he said, is speeding up the process of "family class immigration". In Brampton, that means the south Asians who have flooded in will be able to bring even more of their elderly and sick parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties.
How do you feel about that? The minister's visit is supposed to be part of a "consultation process" to help the Gliberals understand how Canadians really feel about immigration. In Brampton, of course, all the turbanned citizens sitting at the table with Mr McCallum think opening the doors wider is a great idea. But what do Walt's readers in Otter Haunch, Saskatchewan and TROC think? Dear Canuck readers, your government doesn't want you to be able to say you weren't asked, so they've set up a web survey, with a short questionnaire which allows you to give your opinion. Watch your language, eh!

Canada backtracks on backpedaling on refugees
Apparently there was much soiling of shorts in the offices of the Hon. John McCallum, Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (in that order) when news leaked out of the Canuck government's quiet wind-down of its ill-conceived and ill-received plan to bring in more 1000s of Muslim "refugees". See "Canuck government backpedals on admitting Syrian refugees", WWW 26/3/16.
Not wanting to be seen to be caving to the likes of Marine Le Pen, or -- heaven forbid -- listening to Canadian public opinion, Mr. McCallum announced today that his department will now process all applications for Syrians received as of March 31st, with an eye towards welcoming another 10,000 to Canada by the end of this year or early 2017. "We can’t go on to infinity, but we are doing the best we can to meet the demand," he told Canadian Press, speaking from Germany where he is studying Angela Merkel's successful policies of Willkommenskultur.
Mr. McCallum said the government remains committed to refugees, but has to manage the system in a responsible way. He said the increased number of Syrians will see this year’s admissions jump even higher than the maximum 18,000 privately sponsored refugees Canada had intended to accept. However, the roughly 10,000 applications for Syrians that will now be processed will not count against the global cap on applications, which means that Canada won't accept any fewer "refugees" from places like Afghanistan, Sudan, Libya, Morocco, etc etc ad nauseam.
Mr. McCallum also said his department will do its best to ensure processing the Syrian cases won’t mean further delays for refugees from "elsewhere". Only European Christians will be required to wait at the back of the line.

Anonymous threatens to reveal John Baird's "secret"
The group (?) of hackers which styles itself "Anonymous" has members/colleagues/friends in Canada. The Anonymous Canucks are upset because the Mounties shot and killed one of their members a few days back, during a confrontation in Dawson Creek BC. (See? Canadian police shoot unarmed people too!)
The National Post reports today that the hackers are threatening to release decrypted text messages from former Foreign Affairs Minister John "Nancy" Baird which allegedly reveal the real reason why he abruptly left his position [assumed position? Ed.] in early February.
The warning was made in the Twitterverse from an account which the Post says is one that has been operated by activists responsible for previous leaks of confidential information from the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service [sic]. Here's the Tweet.
Whatever could they be talking about?! The Post says the hacktivists presented no evidence to support their claim. Johnboy, of course, declined to comment, as did the buggers at the Department of Foreign Affairs. So, it's up to Walt to poke a hole in their rubbers.
The reason why Mr. Baird, who was one of the highest-profile members of Steve Harper’s cabinet, quit suddenly to join the private sector was revealed right here on WWW in February. See "Canada's Foreign Minister finally comes out of the...errr... cabinet".
That Mr. Baird is as gay as 18 balloons has been an open secret in Ottawa for years. That's why his appointment as Foreign Minister made so much sense. The Department of Foreign Affairs Etc. is home to a large and influential gay mafia, so putting Johnboy on top was, errr, a natural fit.
The only reason that Walt can think of for CSIS to take an interest in the Mr. Baird's "alternative lifestyle" is the possibility that he was risking not just getting AIDS, but blackmail by a jilted lover or even a queer spy.
Such things are not unknown, even in staid old Canada. In 1963, the Associate Minister of National Defence, Pierre Sévigny, was forced to resign when it was disclosed that he had had an affair with Gerda Munsinger, an East German prostitute who lived in Ottawa and worked as a spy for the Soviet Union. M. Sévigny's dalliance with the beautiful Gerda was heterosexual, of course, but that was half a century ago, before homosexuality was made not just acceptable but, in certain circles, mandatory!
@OpAnonDown has not given any timeline for the release of this not-so-hot news flash. Perhaps they won't bother. Or perhaps Mr. Baird will preempt them by outing himself. Remember, you read it hear first. Lifetime pct .976.

Canucks try again to ban wearing niqab at citizenship ceremonies
This may be a picture of Zunera Ishaq, a Muslim lady who immigrated to Canada from Pakistan in 2008. Or maybe not. It's pretty hard to ascertain someone's identity, or even their gender, when their face is covered with the niqab. It was for that reason that, in 2013, a Canadian judge who was about to administer the oath of citizenship to Ms Ishaq refused to do so unless she uncovered her face, as required by government policy. Ms Ishaq refused, saying that to show her face in public to men whom she did not know would violate the requirements of her religion -- Islam -- and the traditions of her culture. The culture of her adopted country didn't matter to her. Let Canada adapt itself to her, not the other way round.
As sure as God made little wormy apples and little wormy lawyers, a challenge under Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms ensued. Just as surely, the politically correct Federal Court ruled this year that the ban on wearing the niqab, mandated by the Canadian Minister of Immigration was contrary to the government's own immigration laws.
The court ordered the feds to lift the ban and allow Ms Ishaq to take the oath with her face covered. Mr. Justice Keith Boswell found that "to the extent that the policy interferes with a citizenship judge's duty to allow candidates for citizenship the greatest possible freedom in the religious solemnization or the solemn affirmation of the oath it is unlawful."
The Canuck government indicated at the time that it would appeal the ruling. But before the appeal could be heard -- today in fact -- the same government proposed a new "Oath of Citizenship Act" which, if enacted, will require all Canadian citizenship applicants to show their face while taking the oath of citizenship. Ironically, the new legislation was introduced in the House of Commons by the Minister of State for Multiculturalism, Tim Uppal, seen here wearing the turban which his religion -- Sikhism -- requires."The Citizenship Oath is an integral part of Canada's citizenship ceremony, and where new Canadians embrace our country's values and traditions, including the equality of men and women," said Mr. Uppal. "This bill will ensure all citizenship candidates show their face as they take the Oath. We believe most Canadians, including new Canadians, find it offensive that someone would cover their face at the very moment they want to join our Canadian family."
That's if the bill given first reading today becomes law, which seems highly unlikely, given that Parliament adjourned today for its summer recess, and the House of Commons won't sit again until after the election.
Any suggestion that the bill was tabled as a sop to the majority of Canadians fed up with "cultural accommodation" is absurd. So is the suggestion that Prime Minister Steve Harper's government was inspired by polls showing widespread support for the Québec government's reintroduction of legislation to ban the wearing of the niqab, announced just last week.
"Fancy that" Dept.": On Sunday morning (21/6) CBC News posted "Conservatives' niqab ban shaped by Quebec's secular charter battle". Perhaps the CBC follows WWW?

Canada's Foreign Minister finally comes out of the...errr... cabinet
The agenda of Canada's LGBT community -- to make being queer not just acceptable but admirable -- will receive a huge blow job [just "blow", surely! Ed.] this morning when John "Nancy" Baird, the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs [sic] will announce his resignation from the federal cabinet. He will say that he does not intend to run again in the election scheduled for October, and wants to give Canada's Dear Leader (Steve Harper) plenty of time to groom [word? Ed.] a successor.
Walt suspects that the real reason for the sudden departure of Canada's leading closet homosexual -- he's the one on the right -- is that he was about to be outed, at last, by the lamestream media. Nancy's gender preference has been an open secret on Parliament Hill for years, and the Gay Pride types were hoping that he would come out on his own, and thus be a credit to the community and a scold to straight white guys. However, Mr. Baird has chosen to keep his mouth shut.
Poletical ("The Gay Word") describes Mr. Baird as "a warrior for the gay and lesbian community. He has consistently avoided voting with many of his fellow Tories against legislation that advances gay rights. It also turns out that John Baird is revered and respected by Ottawa's gay community. Baird not only attends annual gay pride events, he has publicly condemned gay rights abuses in Africa. He has also been known to frequent Byzantium, a Toronto cocktail lounge that prides itself for being 'the grand matriarch of the gay village'."
Mr. Baird is only 45 years old. He is getting off the federal payroll just ahead of a change in the pension rules, so as to be entitled to suck off the taxpayers' teat for decades (and millions of dollars) to come. He is expected to be welcomed into the private sector, where lucrative but undemanding positions await on the boards of such organizations as the Gay Pride Parade, the United Jewish Appeal, and... just possibly... the CBC.

Canuck porn channels must improve, sez federal regulator
Out of the Great Not-so-white North comes news of shocking Canadian depravity, and not-so-shocking government interference in freedom of speech.
Apparently there are porn channels on Canuck cable TV. Who knew??!! Like all emissions -- nocturnal and otherwise -- the programming on such channels is subject to regulation by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). [We'll skip the French version. Ed.] And the CRTC is concerned that "AOV XXX Action Clips" and "AOV Maleflixxx" may not be airing enough Canadian content. Even worse, they don't have closed captioning! The CRTC X-rated specialty channels are supposed to air 35% Canadian programming over the broadcast year, and 90% of the content should have captioning.
No closed captioning on the gentlemen's flickers. Makes you think, doesn't it. How would those captions read?
"Mmmmmmmmmmmmm... ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh... aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.... more, more, more!"
[That's enough closed captioning. Ed.]
As for the CanCon, Walt wonders how the CRTC distinguishes between blue movies ["yellow movies" in China. Ed.] made in Canada and those made in, say, the Excited States of America. Would there be erotic rubbing of noses? Would the Canadian actors have little maple leaves tattooed on their naughty bits? Would [That's enough examples. Ed.]
As part of proposed licence renewals, the commission plans to hear evidence on the apparent non-compliance. Meetings will be held behind closed doors, in darkened rooms with sticky floors, and are expected to last an entire Arctic night.

Canucks! LAST CHANCE to tell Harper what you think of his immigration policy -- link to SURVEY
I'll say it again. The news travels slowly between the outside world and Walt's cabin in the woods. We've just learned of a survey which every Canadian reader of WWW ought to take. And you have only the rest of today -- AUGUST 31st -- to do it!
Since June -- we said the news travels slowly -- Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has had a "Public and Stakeholder Consultation" open on its website, asking for input from all you hosers on immigration levels for 2014 and beyond. Here's what they say they want to know.
We are seeking your feedback on immigration to Canada, specifically on the total number of new permanent residents Canada should welcome and how this overall total should be distributed among immigration categories. The consultation will explore a number of issues related to three main questions:
- What is the appropriate level of immigration for Canada, this year and beyond?
- What is the best ratio – or mix – between the number of economic immigrants, family class immigrants and the refugee/humanitarian class?
- Economic immigration is a key immigration goal for Canada’s long-term economic growth. What role can immigration play to support Canada’s economy?
When you read the questions, you'll see they ask only about how many and what kind of immigrants should be accepted. "None at all" is not an option! But there's a comments box at the end where you can say what you really think, just in case a real human being may be reading. (But don't be surprised if that's not the case.)
To be frank [I thought you were Len?! Ed.], I don't think anyone in the Harpoon government gives two shits (or even one) about what Canadians think. They're going to do the PC thing -- like admitting more Syrian and gay Russian "refugees" -- no matter what you tell them. But do the survey anyway. Give `em hell! It'll make you feel better!

Think tank calls immigrants and refugees huge burden on Canadians
The elephant in the room can be ignored no longer. The metaphor is very appropriate, considering the number of immigrants and "refugees" -- notice the quotes -- allowed to enter Canada from lands full of elephants, such as Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
According to a report published today by the Fraser Institute, a conservative Canadian think tank, bandaid-like reforms by the Harper government will only make a minor dent in the "fiscal burden" on society imposed by the newcomers unwanted and unwelcomed by the majority of Canadians.
How much is that burden, I hear you ask. It's C$20,000,000,000... per annum! That's $19 billion in real money, a truly huge sum for a country with a population of just 34 million, of whom perhaps a third pay no federal income tax.
In his essay, Herb Grubel -- a former caucus colleague of the Dear Leader -- says Mr. Harpoon's government should take more "radical" steps. He suggests phasing out the sponsorship of parents and grandparents -- the so-called "family class" -- and bringing in an employer-driven system to attract economic immigrants who might actually contribute something to the fiscus, rather than sponge off Canuck taxpayers.
"The economic performance of recent immigrants is substantially below that of other Canadians," Mr. Grubel notes, saying their average total income is 70% of that of other Canadians. Worse still, immigrants pay just over half (54%) of the taxes paid by others.
Mr. Grubel says there’s no consensus on the reason for immigrants’ poor performance, though he noted that both refugees and parents-grandparents clearly didn’t need to pass the government’s test for economic migrants that require certain levels of education, training and language proficiency. No surprise there!
His report praises some of the new federal policies on economic and family-class immigration, and especially Ottawa’s somewhat tougher approach to asylum-seekers. He says it will have some success in reducing the burden caused by immigrants who cost more in social services and general government expenses than they contribute in taxes.
He goes on to state another stone truth, that the "large-scale" intake of immigrants since the late 1980s has raised "serious concerns" over effects on "Canadian culture, religious tolerance and national security". Another non-surprise.
Mr. Grubel argues that Canadians should be allowed to debate the broader question of just how many new Canadians are needed in coming years. Should the Canuck government close the doors completely, or leave them slightly ajar? That's the real elephant in the room. He concludes that a broad public policy debate would at least ensure there is a "better informed and more rational Canadian immigration policy." Now that would be a surprise!

Canada's Museum of Political Correctness to put Christ back in its calendar
Welcome to the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Bienvenue au Musée Canadien des Civilisations.
The slight difference in the treatment of "civilization" in the English and French versions -- the French word is a plural -- should be your first clue about how politically correct the Canadian government has become in modern times. Canadians might refer to "modern times" as "PT" -- "Post Trudeau" -- to distinguish the years since 1968 from the Ante Trudeau (AT) years, when dinosaurs roamed Parliament Hill.
The museum actually goes back to the mid-19th century, when it began as a display hall for the Geological Survey of Canada. By 1910 it had become the National Museum of Canada, and moved into the Victorian Memorial Museum building in downtown Ottawa.
With the rise of Québec nationalism [separatism, surely! Ed.] in the 60s, "national" became a loaded word, so after the coronation of the Sun King Pierre Elliott in 1968, the museum was split in two -- the Museum of Nature and the Museum of Man, both in the same ageing building. In 1982, the Trudeau government announced that the Museum of Man would be moved to its own separate facility on the Québec side of the river.
This was the 80s, eh, the heyday of wimmin's lib and "equal rights" for everyone, so the name "Museum of Man" was immediately denounced as gender-biased. The former "National Museum of Man" thus became the Canadian Museum of Civilization. In 1989, the museum moved into the new facility in Hull, which is actually an architectural gem containing some great exhibits, particularly the Canada Hall.
The museum also contains, on the ground floor, an exhibit of totem poles and other artifacts created by... errr... not "Indians and Eskimos", right? How about "Dene and Innu"? No, because that would legitimize the division between two distinct, errr, ethnic groups. So the space was called the "First Nations Hall". Note the past tense. "Nations" is not a good word, remember? So now it's the "First Peoples Hall", with no apostrophe before or after the "s" so it could be one people or, errr, two or more peoples.
That left the PC police with nothing to correct until someone complained that the word "civilization" suggested that "nations"... oops, countries or peoples... who are not Canadian might be UNcivilized, or, errr... well, not as good as Canucks, somehow. Rather than give offence to immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers, the Canadian government in its wisdom [bwuhahahaha! Ed.] Has decided to rename the place the "Canadian Museum of History"/"Musée Canadien de l'Histoire".
So that's the end of it, eh. Well, not quite. A museum of history must inevitably use dates in the description of its exhibits. The Museum of Civilization has for decades followed the politically correct -- meaning anti-Christian -- practice of dating things either "CE" (= Common Era, which we used to call "AD") or "BCE" (Before Common Era = "BC" = "Before Christ"). But now, in a stunning reversal, the Museum has decided to put "Christ" back in history!
According to a new style guide just released by the Museum, "It is now our style to use the Christian calendar abbreviations BC and AD, if necessary, to designate years."
There's nothing religious about the change, it seems. The reason for it was simply that most people didn't understand the PC terms. "It has nothing to do with the Christian calendar," said a Museum spokesthingy. "It has more to do with the fact that it's considered common usage."
Walt says "amen" to that and trusts the building's cornerstone will be re-incised with the date A.D. MCMLXXXVI.
Click here to visit the Museum's website. If you want to visit the Museum itself, go to Gatineau (formerly known as "Hull") Québec and look for the signs. Oh... No... The signs may be changed again by the time you get there. Better just look for the building.

Canada officially penniless!
Did you see the Google doodle today? Yes, even the great American shibboleth [eh? Ed.] noticed that something momentous happened north of the world's longest undefended border. Dear readers, today Canadians mourn the passing -- or should we say dropping -- of the penny.
The government of Canada stopped making cents last fall. [And stopped making sense long before that. Ed.] But today the Royal Canadian Mint officially stopped distributing the little red cents to financial institutions.
The idea is to take the coins of little value out of circulation. Eventually. The one-cent piece has not been demonetized. That is, it remains legal tender. And there are something like 35 billion pennies still in circulation. Given that a fair proportion of these are squirrelled away in piggy banks and gigantic Maple Leafs jars (to be opened only when the Leafs win the Stanley Cup), this is going to take awhile.
The Mint's spokesthingy, Christine Aquino, told the Vancouver Province they're estimating three or four years, but Walt thinks three or four decades would be more like it. [Lifetime pct .992] Walt also wonders if they've factored in all the American pennies which will be brought across the border and cheerfully accepted by Canuck retailers and tourist trappers.
Walt also predicts that a number of coppery figures of speech will lose currency. (Geddit?) Canucks will speak no more of: "my two cents' worth", "not worth a red cent", and "a penny for your thoughts". Canada, if not the world, will be the poorer for losing its centses.
PS & WOW!!! A million for one offer!
If you can find a genuine (verified by the Royal Canadian Mint) penny dated 2013 (like the one in the Google doodle), I will give you (the equivalent of) a MILLION pennies. That's $10,000, in any dollar currency you like: Canadian dollars, US dollars, Australian dollars, Bahamian dollars, Hong Kong dollars, whatever. If you've got one, e-mail Walt at the usual address.
