UPDATED 20/3: Saint Patrick's Day greetings to ye all!

Here we are again, another Saint Paddy's Day gone by and Eire still divided. Not that it matters as much as it did when you and I were young, Magee. Today's Ireland bears little resemblance to that for which our ancestors fought. 

Faith, didn't they elect a prime minister who's not only a brown furriner, but gay to boot! And didn't his very woke government just bring forward a prooposal to change the Republic's constitution away from traditional Christian family values? On March 8th, the government called on citizens to vote in two referendums called "the Family Amendment" and "the Care Amendment".

The first of these proposals asked to remove a reference to marriage as the basis "on which the family is founded" and replace it with a clause that says families can be founded "on marriage or on other durable relationships". Like "gay marriage", you see.

The care amendment proposed to remove women's role in the home, by deleting a statement that says "mothers shouldn't be obligated by economic necessity to engage in labour to the neglect of their home duties" and adding a clause saying the state will strive to support "the provision of care by members of a family to one another".  

Thanks be to God and the Blessed Virgin, the Plain Peepul of Ireland still have enough of the Faith to reject the proposed amendments. 67.69% of voters in the referendum said "NO" to the first amendment. The second, anti-family amendment, was rejected by 73.93%! Did the wokesters in Dublin really think the Irish were going to vote against motherhood?! 

Well, enough politics. To all the Irish -- including those who identify as Irish, those who feel like they're Irish, and those who wish they were Irish [and who doesn't?! Ed.] -- wherever they are -- in Derry, Sligo, Coleraine, Tullamore, Adjala Township and/or south Boston -- HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY TO YEZ.

Many denizens of the auld sod won't be able to read the parts written in Irish Gaelic. [Faith now, I can't read it meself! Ed.] But the Irish are still the Irish, even if they live in a part of Ireland separated from the rest by the foreign (read: English) oppressors. God bless all of them, and haste the day that the Six Counties will be reunited with the rest of the country.

GREAT UPDATE added 20/3/24: "It's a long road that has no turnings." (Auld Irish saying.) Glory be! Ireland's "progressive" (read: woke as all get out) Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has announced he is resigning for "personal and political" reasons.

Putin's right about one thing!

Both Dr Jordan Peterson and Michael Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper, have been quoted here and elsewhere as saying that we must be careful not to vilify Russian President Vladimir Putin as the devil incarnate, "the new Hitler", etc. 

His invasion of Ukraine is evil, to be sure, but, looking at the broader picture -- the fight to preserve Western civilization -- we must recognize that Mr Putin is almost the only leader* challenging the un-Christian secular humanism which is the politically correct orthodoxy of Europe and North America... except Russia.

Case in point: the ceaseless barrage of pro-queer propaganda forcing homosexuality, gender fluidity, and gender ideology down our throats (or other orifices). Most older folks aren't buying it, but our children are being taught, from curricula written by queers in our public schools, that it's "normal" to be attracted to members of the same sex, and to act on that attraction. 

"Gender affirmation surgery", which we used to call "sex change operations" are not just approved but encouraged. And in our public libraries, drag queens are grooming our innocent children. And all this is being paid for by our tax dollars!

You won't see any of this in Russia! The state news agency, TASS, reports that this week legislators of the State Duma (the lower house of Russia's parliament), unanimously passed a draft law, sponsored by 400 of the Duman's 450 members, banning the media from publishing propaganda for "non-traditional sexual relations".

The chairman noted that the Duma had received high-profile initiatives requesting the ban on such information. He stressed that this issue was very important because such propaganda is aimed at destroying Russian society and traditional family values. Odd, isn't it, that parliamentarians in the USA, UK, Canada etc haven't figured that out? Maybe I should have said "queer", rather than "odd"! 

The bill prohibits the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations, pedophilia and the display of LGBT-related information and information encouraging gender changes among teenagers, on the Internet, in the media, in books, on audio and visual platforms, and in movies and advertisements. 

It also introduces a mechanism restricting children’s access to LGBT-related information on paid services. In particular, it demands users enter codes or take other actions to confirm their age. In addition, the document suggests banning audio and visual services from spreading information harmful to the health and development of children. 

The Duma legislators also approved in the first reading a draft law stipulating administrative liability for propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations, pedophilia as well as gender change among teenagers and adults. 

The new bill stipulates maximum fines of 5 million rubles (over $81,400) for spreading LGBT propaganda among minors and 4 million rubles (over $65,146) among adults. Foreign nationals involved in promoting non-traditional sexual relations propaganda will be expelled from Russia and fined up to 400,000 rubles ($6,500). An administrative 15-day detention is also possible in regard to foreign nationals. 

Only in Russia, you say? Pity, sez  Walt. We need something like that here.

* Footnote: There are a handful of foreign leaders, including Italy's Prime Minister Giorgina Meloni, and Hungarian PM Viktor Orban, who I think would agree with President Putin on the necessity for such a law, but Russia remains the only country in which a ban on pro-queer propaganda is now the law of the land.

On Monday, in "EU-elites panic as rightist coalitions win Italian and Swedish elections", I reported with pleasure the stunning victory of Giorgia Meloni's Fratelli d'Italia party in the weekend's Italian election. And, I noted, the polls had not even closed before the leftist politicians and lickspittle media started pissing and moaning about "the death of democracy" (which had just proven itself very much alive) and "the new fascism". 

The alarm of the anti-Western, secular humanists was made manifest when YewTube removed this video, recorded at the 2019 World Congress of Families in Verona, in which Ms Meloni makes a passionate defence of national identity, family values, and -- dare we say the word? -- God! If you want to know why Italians voted for her, just listen to this!

   

Where the video used to be, there is only a notice: "This video has been removed for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines." If YouToob is against the values of which Ms Meloni speaks, what are they for?

No room for SoCons in Canada's "Conservative" Party

In four short months, Canada's Perpetual Opposition Party (currently calling itself the Conservative Party of Canada) will hold a leadership convention to replace the Hon. Andrew Scheer, whose inability to talk out of both sides of his mouth about abortion and "gay rights" was demonstrated in last fall's federal election.

Canada's Cuckservatives had no position on "values issues", because they were (and remain) deeply divided. On the left there are the Red Tories who will do and say whatever it takes to win (or at least not lose too badly), even if that means sounding like alt-Liberals. Opposing them are the True-Blue Tories, who claim to be social as well as fiscal conservatives, but don't like talking about killing unborn babies or the nonsense of gender ideology.

It appears that although Mr Scheep himself claims to be a SoCon, the Red Tories had the upper hand in the smoke-filled backrooms. Thus true Canuck conservatives had no party to vote for except "Mad Max" Bernier's People's Party of Canada, and even the PPC was not very strong on the pro-life side, saying merely that they would "allow debate" on the issue. The result, a whoda-thunk-it victory for the Rt. Hon. Justin Blackface, was utterly predictable.

Knives were stuck in Mr Scheep's back within 24 hours, not just be Canada's liberal media (Hello, CBC!) but by those who would be the new leader, notably Peter MacKay, who likened the Tories' loss to "having an empty net to shoot at, and missing." Mr MacHackey is now the leading contender for the leadership, with only a non-entity named Erin O'Toole [Mr or Ms? Ed.] claiming to be "true blue".

Six other "Conservatives" have entered the lists, bringing the total number of contenders for the poisoned chalice to eight. Not admitted to the list, officially announced yesterday, was Richard Richard Décarie, a social conservative whose post-secondary education includes graduate studies in Philosophy – Applied Ethics from the Université de Sherbrooke. M Décarie had submitted the required application, fee and nomination signatures, and was interviewed by the party, as required by its rules. Yet his nomination was rejected.

Why is M Décarie not being allowed to put his name forward? CPC spokesthingy Cory Hann [Ms or Mr? Ed.] couldn't say specifically why not, because "the process is confidential." Walt suggests it may have something to do with M Décarie's very public statements of his belief that being one of the alphabet people is a choice, and that government should defund abortion.

M Décarie has also said that "LGBTQ" is a liberal term, and that governments should work to uphold and restore "traditional values." Some of his opponents, including Mr MacHackey, Erin O'Toole and Marilyn Gladu [Who she? Ed.], condemned his remarks as did current MPs, party strategists and former staff. It appears that M Décarie is about as welcome in today's "Conservative" Party of Canada as a skunk at a garden party.

Walt predicts that on June 27th, Peter MacKay will be chosen as the new Cuckservative leader. Walt further predicts that he will never become Prime Minister of Canada. Never! Lifetime pct .992.

"Société sans père, société sans repère" - 600,000 demonstrate vs artificial reproduction, in vitro fertilization

"Société sans père, société sans repère!" ("Society without father, society without landmark!") That was the slogan chanted by 600,000 demonstrators in Paris last Sunday. They took to the streets to protest against proposed government (read: taxpayer) funding of "medically assisted procreation" -- sperm donation and in vitro fertilization -- for lesbian couples and single women.

Largely ignored by the centre-left government of Emmanuel Macros (which is responsible for the proposal), as well as the lamestream media in France and North America, the protesters marched past the French Senate, bearing signs expressing the old-fashioned notion that every child should be born to a mother and a father. Their signs and placards featured such slogans as "Where is my dad?", "Liberty, Equality, Paternity" (a play on "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity", the national motto -- geddit?), and "Everyone needs a father."

The leaders of the mainstream Catholic Church were absented themselves from the demonstration -- too busy worshipping Mother Earth in Amazonia, no doubt -- but a large number of traditional Catholic, rightist and populist groups took part, including La Manif Pour Tous, Alliance Vita, les Associations Familiales Catholiques, and le Comité Protestant Évangélique pour la Dignité Humaine. Polilticians from Marine Le Pen's Parti National were also present, along with a few from the Republicans.

Last month, the lower house of the French parliament approved a draft bioethics law which would allow lesbian and single women to conceive children with medical help. The bill must now be approved by the Senate, before it can be passed. As French law stands now, only heterosexual couples who have been married or living together for more than two years have the right to access procedures such as in vitro fertilisation, artificial insemination or sperm donation. M Macron's government, pandering to the LGBTQ+++ lobby, wants to extend this right to all wimmin. [What about men who "identify as women"? Ed.]

The organizers of the protest, dubbed "Marchons Enfants" contend that the parliamentary debates were "ignored" and "despised". Ludovine Dutheil de La Rochère, president of La Manif Pour Tous, said that in the face of failed attempts to discuss the ethics, rather than economics, of the measure, the only way to be heard was to take to the streets.

Thus the gathering of well over half a million to protest "the manufacture of children voluntarily deprived of fathers", "submission to ultra-liberal capitalism judging the dignity of a person only at its economic value", and "the weakening of the family fabric and therefore the whole society."

Allowing millions of 3rd Worlders into Europe "cardinal mistake": Putin

When it comes to the wisdom (or otherwise) of filling your country with unassimilable Muslim "refugees" and asylum-seekers, Vladimir Putin is on the right track. Speaking at the beginning of the G20 summit in Osaka, the Russian president declared recently that liberalism in Europe and the US has "outlived its purpose".

The Father of All the Russias [Archaism! Ed.] criticised Western views on gay rights, immigration and multiculturalism, all of which he sees as parts of an attack on traditional family values. Speaking to the Financial Times, Mr Putin said the "liberal idea" was on its way out, as the public has turned its back on "social justice" issues. And he called German chancellor Angela Merkel's 2017 decision to allow more than a million "refugees" into her country (and thus into the European Union) a "cardinal mistake".

President Putin said, "[Liberals] cannot simply dictate anything to anyone just like they have been attempting to do over the recent decades. This liberal idea presupposes that nothing needs to be done. That migrants can kill, plunder and rape with impunity because their rights as migrants have to be protected. Every crime must have its punishment. The liberal idea has become obsolete. It has come into conflict with the interests of the overwhelming majority of the population."

Indeed. But do you hear anything like that from any of the mainstream political leaders in western Europe or the AABC countries? Sadly, no. Walt would like to hear one, just one of the 20+ hopefuls looking to lose the 2020 election say at least that it's time to have a "conversation" about the wisdom of the Democrats' liberal (and worse) policies. But I'm not holding my breath.

Birth rate rising, abortion rate falling - Christian Hungary thriving!

An assiduous reader has asked why Walt has been focusing on the politics of Canada, Europe, even Africa, anywhere but the USA. The answer is simple. I am sick, sore and tired of what passes, these days, for politics in the Excited States of America. With Chuck and Nancy now the effective leaders of the opposition to Still-President Trump, the Democratic Party and (((controlled media))) are now in the terminal stages of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

In their efforts to obstruct and damage the President in any way possible, the Dems are now trying to accomplish through the criminal justice "system" what they have been unable to accomplish by political means. The latest example is their empty threat to issue a contempt citation if Attorney-General William Barr did not show up yesterday for a committee hearing on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report. Of course they didn't.

While the circus under the big dome goes on... and on... I ask myself, is anybody minding the store? The country's economy, foreign policy, and (most important) security seem to have been put on hold while the Democrats pursue their "agenda of resistance". If anything significant -- a war, for instance -- is done by or to the American government, Walt will write about it. In the meantime, I'll comment on events, good and bad, in parts of the world which are not all stupidly crazy, all the time.

Like Hungary, for instance, where sanity of the Christian nationalist variety has triumphed over the secular humanist, one-world madness of (((George Soros))). On May Day, the Voice of Europe reported that Hungary, which, under the firm leadership of Viktor Orbán, embraced both nationalism and Christian values, is thriving! Marriage rates are rising, the number of abortions is falling, and Christian Hungary is seeing the highest birthrates in two decades.

This demographic turnaround has not been an accident, but the fruit of deliberate programs to promote marriage and the family while defending Hungary's cultural identity and Christian roots. The article quotes Catalan Novak, the nation's Minister for the Family -- imagine the USA having one of those?! -- as saying, “After we won the election in 2010 with a two-thirds majority, we decided to build a family-friendly country and to strengthen families raising children."

A family-friendly country! Wow! What a concept! If we brought that idea into our country, we might even see a resurgence of family values! Standing firm in its position despite fierce opposition from the socialists and one-worlders (whose real goal is ethnic replacement) left, the Orbán government enacted legislation resulting in what Ms Novak calls "a comprehensive family-support system, a family-friendly tax system, a housing program, 800,000 new jobs, and many opportunities to create a balance between life and work."

"We are living in times when fewer and fewer children are being born throughout Europe. People in the West are responding to this with immigration", Prime Minister Orbán said in last February's State of the Nation address in Budapest. "Hungarians see this in a different light. We do not need numbers, but Hungarian children!"

Similarly, IMHO, what our AABC countries (America, Australia, Britain and Canada) need is not more immigrants, but more AABC children. Call that "white supremacy" if you like, but it's working in Hungary!

A modest suggestion: the Christian Republic of America!

Since the rise of the Taliban, al-Qaeda and ISIS, and the beginning of the Gulf Wars, American presidents have routinely told the sheeple that the jihadis are trying to kill us because they hate us. Why so? Democratic presidents say it's because the USA has freedom and democracy and equal rights for wimmin and gays and vizmins, yada yada yada. Republicans say it's because the camel jockeys are jealous of America's wealth, high standard of living, freedom and democracy, yada yada yada.

There is some truth in all of that, but the real reason why the Islamic terrorists are so devout, so strong in their Muslim faith that they're willing to die for it -- never mind about the 72 virgins -- goes deeper than that. It has to do with Islamic values, in which they believe, as contrasted with Christian values, which we say we believe, but really don't.

I was thinking about that on Sunday when Father Duffy was preaching a good Lenten homily about turning away from sin and turning back to the Gospel. (That's what priests in the mainstream Church say nowadays when they make the Sign of the Cross on your forehead with ashes. What ever happened to "Remember man ["person"? Ed.] that thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return!" But I digress...)

I confess that my mind wandered a bit from what the good Father was saying to a passage I read in The State of Africa, by Martin Meredith (rev. 2011, Simon & Schuster), a worthwhile analysis of how the Dark Continent (including, in this case, the Arab north) came to be in its present parlous state. In Chapter 25 [It's not a short book. Ed.], "In the Name of the Prophet", the author introduces readers to Sayyid Qutb, "an Egyptian intellectual-activist whose writings influenced generations of radical Islamists.

"Once an admirer of the West and Western literature, he...turned into a formidable critic as a result of a two-year stay in the United States in the late 1940s, appalled by what he saw as its moral decadence, its materialism, racism and sexual depravity. Returning to Egypt in 1951, he became a leading figure in the Muslim Brotherhood...."

"Moral decadence, materialism, racism and sexual depravity." Indeed. And that was in the 1940s! Before the hippy-dippy `60s, when, IMHO, our Western society really began to fall apart. Those things -- particularly moral decadence and sexual depravity -- are all contrary to the values and principles of life taught by Our Lord Jesus Christ and enjoined by His Church. Yet today, those are hallmarks of our so-called Christian society.

Sayyid Qutb became one of the leading voices of the Islamic revolution, calling for the establishment, by force if necessary, of a pan-Arab theocratic state -- an Islamic republic -- in which the evils of Western society would be rejected and a society established which would be run according to the strict Islamic principles of Sharia law.

A theocratic state, like today's Islamic Republic of Iran, in which the Seven Deadly Sins are punished not just in the next world but here on earth. What would it be like, I thought, if the Ten Commandments were strictly followed in Western society. If, say, people had their  hands cut off for stealing or were stoned to death for adultery, as they sometimes are under Sharia Law.

The thought made me cringe. Here in the "Christian West" we can do what we want. We can make all the graven images we want. Or commit "serial monogamy", which is really just adultery licensed by the state. Or kill millions of innocent children and be paid by the state for doing it. Or perform every kind of what used to be called "unnatural acts".

The state doesn't care. The mainstream Church herself has pretty much stopped preaching against these sins, because... well... "everybody's doing it". Those bemoaning the fact that our Western society has "lost its moral compass" might well consider the alternative presented by Islam -- a theocracy, a confessional state with a state religion and strict laws against all those things which we know are wrong but tolerate in ourselves and others because we don't want to appear old-fashioned and (horror of horrors) religious!

How about establishing "the Christian Republic of America"? That's my brilliant idea for a better society:"One nation under God." Oh... wait... Really??? But I didn't think it would look like this!

Earlier today Walt posted "Jordan Peterson talks with Tanya Granic Allen & Queenie Yu", the full version (still only 7:47) of a 2017 interview of University of Toronto Professor Jordan Peterson by Tanya Granic Allen and her colleague at Parents As First Educators, Queenie Yu. The subject is Ontario's perverted sex education curriculum and gender ideology.

Tanya Granic Allen is a candidate for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. Queenie Yu (余婷婷) is her colleague at Parents as First Educators (PAFE), a social conservative activist and, a few months ago, an independent candidate in a Toronto-area by-election. Ms Yu is a strong voice for family values in the Chinese community. At the time of the interview with Dr Peterson, Ms Yu appeared on Fairchild TV to explain her community's opposition to the No-Wynne government's plans to sexualize innocent children. I am happy to report that Mrs Granic Allen has been officially registered as a candidate and has participated with great effect in the first televised debate, impressing even the (((controlled media))).

The liberal Toronto Star's Thomas Walkom wrote: "Thursday's debate did not showcase the party as a collection of fiscally responsible moderates. Indeed, thanks to Granic Allen's bravura performance, it was as if all energy in the party came from the hard right. She dominated the debate." Liberal government of Ontario plans further attack on parental rights

Faced with the certainty of a crushing defeat in the next provincial election, Ontario's Liberal (mis)government, led by proudly lesbian Premier Kathleen Wynne, has introduced yet another measure to push gender ideology into the courts, schools and adoption/child protection services, and further reduce the rights of parents to raise their children without interference by the nanny state.

Ontario is one of the most liberal, most politically correct jurisdictions in North America. Following 14 years of Liberal misrule, Ontario boys can be considered girls, and girls can be considered boys. Ontario kids are being taught a sex-ed curriculum written by a convicted child pornographer -- Doctor (((Benjamin Levin))) -- and supported by both the fragrant Ms Wynne and Patrick Brown, the leader of the province's so-oxymoronical "Progressive Conservative" opposition.

Last month Ms Wynne's government introduced Bill 89, in the Ontario legislature. Laughably called the Supporting Children, Youth and Families Act, the new law will do nothing of the kind. In fact it will do the opposite of what its title proclaims. The bill is an attack on parental authority and will ultimately harm children.

By expanding the application of the definition of what is "a child in need", the bill, when it becomes law, will displace children from their family home even where there really is no need. Also, by pushing gender ideology onto child services, child protection, foster and adoption service providers, the bill will force judges to take into consideration a child's "gender identity and gender expression".

According to Agent 3, Bill 89 also attacks the right of parents to direct their children's religious upbringing. Parents and those who stand in loco parentis (and Children's Aid Services et al.) must bring up the child in accordance with the child's creed -- whatever that is. For example, if a child who is somehow determined to be a Rastafarian is placed with Catholic foster parents, they must do nothing to convert the child to the Christian Faith.

By eliminating the religious faith in a child's upbringing as an element of "services" to the child, Bill 89 diminishes the important role parents play in the spiritual and moral development of a child. Similarly, foster and adoptive parents will be treated unjustly if they don't subscribe to gender theory and/or ideology. For instance, if a child equipped with a penis, but who "identifies" as a female, is placed in care, the foster parents or care providers mustn't so much as question the child's "gender choice". They might even be required to assist the child in obtaining "gender reassignment therapy" (= a sex-change operation).

Walt predicts that, although ordinary Ontarians may oppose it (see link to petition below), Bill 89 will sail through the politically correct legislature. Walt further predicts that one of the unintended consequences of the new Act will be a dramatic decrease in the already low number of good-hearted people willing to adopt or act as foster parents. What's the point of being a foster parent or adopting a child if you can't bring up children according to the family values that you know are right and good for them.

Dear Ontario readers... If you fear for the future of your province, as well you might, you must let your voices be heard. The more you remain silent (for fear of being labelled as "old-fashioned" or "unprogressive" or "homophobic"), the more freedom you give up.

Tanya Granic Allen, President of Parents as First Educators, and Queenie Yu, a real conservative activist, plan on testifying before the government committee charged with studying the bill. UPDATED: How Ontario's pro-LGBT sex education plan could derail Justin Trudeau's election bid

To recap and "set the table" for what follows... Under Canada's constitution, education is the exclusive responsibility of the provinces. The Liberal government of the province of Ontario is headed by Kathleen Wynne, a lesbian who's "out" and proud of it. Her education minister is Liz Sandals, who's not. Ms Wynne and Ms Sandals have decided that it's time to reintroduce a "new and improved" sex education curriculum which was first proposed some years ago, when Ms Wynne was the education minister. Why does Walt say "pro-LGBT"? One of the chief drafters and proponents of the new curriculum was now-disgraced Dr. Benjamin Levin, a paedophile recently convicted on charges of making written child pornography, counselling a person to commit a sexual assault, and possession of child pornography. See "Lesbian premier of Ontario pretends not to notice as pervert who drafted new sex ed curriculum pleads guilty to kiddy porn charges".

Ontario parents are understandably concerned -- very concerned -- about what kind of "information" Dr. Levin and his liberal secular humanist friends might insert into the new curriculum. Would it be a vehicle for pushing the pro-LGBT agenda -- homosexuality is OK, "gay marriage" is OK, alternative lifestyles are OK, etc -- to children as young as six? Answer: absolutely!

Ontario's new sex ed plan is being touted as "appropriate to a tolerant and digitally connected society". [What does "digitally connected" mean? Didn't that used to be a kind of sexual behaviour? Ed.] It introduces the topic of same-sex "marriage" in Grade 3 (typical age of students = 8) and "sexting" in Grade 7 (typical age = 12). Groups such as Parents Alliance of Ontario and Parents As First Educators claim it offers how-to lessons on masturbation, homosexuality, oral and anal sex. Ontario parents, particularly those from religious and "ethnic" communities are incensed. Some 5000 parents of them, largely in the Greater Toronto Area, where immigrants from Asia and Africa are in the majority, have joined a Facebook group calling for a boycott of classes next week to express opposition to the curriculum.

Firani Siddiqui will keep her two younger children home to protest the curriculum which she says breaches her right to decide when her children learn sensitive sexual information. "I don’t want teachers to tell my children that masturbation is a healthy thing — it’s a no no! Maybe I don’t want her to think it’s a healthy practice," Ms Siddiqui told an interviewer. She said she is not anti-gay [even worse than being anti-immigrant, apparently. Ed.] but simply believes the new curriculum gets too explicit too early. "I don’t want a stranger telling my kids about oral and anal sex."

Miriam Ali operates a daycare centre that caters to the children of new Canadians from Asia, Africa and the Caribbean. In her opinion, the new sex-ed curriculum "corrupts the morals of our children. Our parents are very concerned about this. Sexual education should be taught by parents."

So many parents in Peel Region, Toronto's neighbour to the west, have expressed concerns over the curriculum that the public school board fears hundreds of parents in their region alone -- as many as 200 to 300 in some neighbourhoods -- will ask that their children be exempt from sex-education classes next fall.

And that's where the threat to Justin Trudeau, the federal Liberal Party's "shiny pony", comes in. Although the new curriculum is being introduced by the provincial government, that government is a Liberal government, and parents like Ms Siddiqui and Ms Ali hold Justin Trudeau partly to blame. That makes JT's dear friend and ally in the fight for gay rights, Kathleen Wynne, a key combatant in the federal election due no later than October 19th, whether she or he like it or not.

Parents rightly associate M. Trudeau with the programme just because of the Liberal party name. Conversely, the Conservative Party, presently in power in Ottawa, is aggressively positioning itself as the champion of family values. (This is not a little hypocritical, since the Tory and Liberal positions on abortion and gay "marriage" are indistinguishable, but never mind.)

Unfortunately for M. Trudeau and Ms Wynne, many immigrant Canadians from India, Pakistan, China, the Philippines and the sandpits of the Middle East are socially more conservative than their born-in-Canada counterparts, even the modernist Catholics and evangelical Protestants. And they voted for Steve Harper’s Conservatives in the 2011 federal election.

A senior Conservative strategist, told the Globe and Mail "on background", that his party will stress during the coming election campaign that "immigrant values are Conservative values" -- a remarkable sentiment for a pro-Canada party to be espousing -- and that Mr. Harper believes parents should be left to do the job of parenting. Presumably that includes teaching their kids about the rights and wrongs of things like gay "marriage", and oral and anal sex. The morality or otherwise of such things is not a part of Ontario's new sex education curriculum.

THIS JUST IN: Walt has just (this afternoon) received a phone call from an agent in Peel Region, which has seen the biggest and loudest protests against the pro-queer sex education curriculum, who reports that the Minister of Education, Lez Sandals, has agreed to some sort of meeting with the region's public school board to "clarify" the content of the curriculum, and the difference between the curriculum itself and what Ms Sandals now calls "prompts" given to tell teachers how to respond to questions about things like anal sex, should such questions arise. Whether parents will be allowed to attend the meeting is unclear. Looks to me like the government has blinked!

Pat Buchanan questions Pope's stance in the culture wars

To judge by his public pronouncements, Pope Francis wants to be neutral in the so-called "culture wars" over issues such as abortion, same-sex "marriage" and the moral degradation of the West. "Who am I to judge [homosexuals]" said the pope who Msgr Patrick Perez denounced publicly as "a disgrace".

"Who am I to judge?" Walt answered the Holy Father's question on July 29th. And now Pat Buchanan -- perhaps a reader of WWW? -- says, "Well, he is pope. And even the lowliest parish priest has to deliver moral judgments in a confessional."

In "Papal Neutrality in the Culture War?", Mr. Buchanan accuses Pope Francis of bordering on moral relativism by refusing to condemn atheists and LGBT individuals. The Pope, he writes, is attempting to move the Catholic Church "to a stance of non-belligerence, if not neutrality, in the culture war for the soul of the West."

Strong stuff! The sound you hear is Walt applauding. Here's more of what Mr. Buchanan has to say about the Pope's astonishing departure lack of leadership on some of the most important cultural and moral issues of our day. The emphasis is Walt's.

"There is a small problem with neutrality. As Trotsky observed, 'You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.” For the church to absent itself from the culture war is to not to end that war, but to lose it.'

"What would that entail? Can we not already see? In America, the family has disintegrated. 40% of working-class white children are born out of wedlock, as are 53% of Hispanic children, and 73% of black children. Kids from broken homes are many times more likely to drop out of school, take drugs, join gangs, commit crimes, end up in prison, lose their souls, and produce yet another generation of lost souls.

"[Laurie] Goodstein [of the New York Times] quotes the Holy Father as listing among the 'most serious of the evils' today 'youth unemployment'. And he calls upon Catholics not to be 'obsessed' with abortion or same-sex marriage. But is teenage unemployment really a graver moral evil than the slaughter of 3,500 unborn every day in a land we used to call 'God’s Country'?

"Papal encyclicals like Rerum Novarum and Quadragesimo Anno have much to teach about social justice in an industrial society. But what is the special expertise of the church in coping with teenage unemployment? Has the Curia done good scholarly work on the economic impact of the minimum wage?

"The cultural revolution preached by Marxist Antonio Gramsci is continuing its “long march” through the institutions of the West and succeeding where the violent revolutions of Lenin and Mao failed. It is effecting a transvaluation of all values. And it is not interested in a truce with the church of Pope Francis, but a triumph over that church which it reviles as the great enemy in its struggle.

"Indeed, after decades of culture war waged against Christianity, the Vatican might consider the state of the Faith. Our civilization is being de-Christianized. Popular culture is a running sewer. Promiscuity and pornography are pandemic. In Europe, the churches empty out as the mosques fill up. In America, Bible reading and prayer are outlawed in schools, as Christian displays are purged from public squares. Officially, Christmas and Easter do not exist.

"The pope, says Goodstein, refers to proselytizing as 'solemn nonsense'. But to proselytize is to convert nonbelievers. And when Christ admonished his apostles, 'Go forth and teach all nations', and ten of his twelve were martyred doing so, were they not engaged in the Church’s true commission — to bring souls to Christ....

"An Italian atheist quotes the pope as saying, 'Everyone has his own idea of good and evil,' and everyone should 'follow the good and fight evil as he conceives them.' Does this not reflect the moral relativism of Prince Hamlet when he said to Rosencrantz, 'there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so?' Yet, is it not the church’s mission to differentiate good and evil and condemn the latter?

"'Since he became pope,' writes Goodstein, Francis’ 'approval numbers are skyrocketing. Even atheists are applauding.' Especially the atheists, one imagines. While Pope Francis has not altered any Catholic doctrines in his interviews and disquisitions, he is sowing seeds of confusion among the faithful, a high price to pay, even for 'skyrocketing' poll numbers."

NY Times asks: Are Muslims the new Catholics?

The politically correct New York Times ran an unusual op-ed piece on Monday, contributed by Doug Saunders, writing from Toronto. Mr Saunders draws a strong analogy between contemporary "concerns" about Islam and the Islamization of the West, on the one hand, and 20th-century American anti-Catholicism on the other.

He makes the point that as late as 1950, American Freedom and Catholic Power sold nearly a quarter of a million copies in the USA, and was on the Times best-seller list for weeks. earlier feelings of anger and to anti-Catholic sentiments of earlier generations.

"The view that members of a religious minority are not to be trusted — that they are predisposed to extremism, disloyalty and violence; resist assimilation; reproduce at alarming rates, and are theologically compelled to impose their backward religious laws on their adopted home — is not new.... From the 19th century on, distrust, violence and, eventually, immigration restrictions were aimed at waves of Roman Catholic immigrants."


Mr Saunders continues: "Many Americans shunned such views, but some liberals did not. Mr. Blanshard’s book was endorsed by the likes of John Dewey and Bertrand Russell, and respected scholars like Seymour Martin Lipset, Reinhold Niebuhr and Sidney Hook debated Catholics’ supposed propensity toward authoritarianism."

The point Mr Saunders overlooks -- thus rendering his argument specious -- is that the moral and social values espoused by Catholics are virtually identical to the Protestant Christian values on which America was founded and built.

Muslims, however, follow a false prophet and seek to impose on Western society a culture which is backward, barbaric, and alien to our way of life. If we think the Islamists are predisposed to extremism, disloyalty and violence; resist assimilation; reproduce at alarming rates, and are theologically compelled to impose their backward religious laws on their adopted home — we do so with good reason.

Send your kids' school the "traditional values letter"

First the background. Hamilton ON dentist Dr. Steve Tourloukis is suing the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board for refusing to warn him when teachers plan to preach the Ontario government's sex education curriculum to his kids.

Dr. Tourloukis is a Greek Orthodox Christian and a believer in Christian family values as regards things like homosexuality, abortion, pre-marital and extra-marital sex, and so on. He's against those things, at least for himself and his family, and he doesn't want them being shoved down the throats of his children, who are in Grades 1 and 4 in Ontario's so-called public school system.

The school board, which takes its direction from the Kremlin [Ontario government, surely! Ed.] says respect for alternative lifestyles, yadda yadda yadda, is a good thing and should be not just encouraged but actively promoted. Laurel Broten, the minister who succeeded a proud lesbian to the education portfolio in the Ontario government, says her government's humanistic approach -- based on a rejection of even the notion of a Supreme Being -- is here to stay.
"A little person can draw a picture of her two moms or two dads, for example, and feel safe and accepted. That’s what happens in classes across Ontario and that’s what should happen," she told a Toronto newspaper.

Dr. Tourloukis says if there's to be any teaching about family, marriage or human sexuality, he'll do it himself. Not surprisingly, 1000s of Catholic and evangelical Protestant parents agree. So, apparently, do numerous Muslim parents. Following reports of the lawsuit, schools across Ontario are starting to receive formal requests for notification when their children’s classes will discuss topics ranging from homosexuality and birth control to wizardry, evolution and "environmental worship", so they can withhold their child from classes that contradict their religious beliefs.

The letters have been modelled on a form being circulated by a group called P.E.A.C.E. Hamilton. P.E.A.C.E. stands for Public Education Advocates for Christian Equity. Click here to visit the P.E.A.C.E. website, and read about the true intent behind the new curriculum, which is to "change the traditional norms and values of society, and change them for good". That's a quote from Ms Broten.

If you have children in the Ontario system, but feel the traditional norms and values of society are just fine the way they are, you should sent a letter along those lines -- let's call it the Traditional Values Letter -- to "your" school board. (Hey, you elected them, didn't you?) Here is the model letter with some instructions on how to use it to communicate your beliefs.

If you have children in any other "public" school system, who are being threatened by the queer agenda -- see "Ontario schools forced to promote masturbation, homosexuality", WWW 4/3/10 -- please draw inspiration from Dr. Tourloukis and P.E.A.C.E. They will be only too happy if you adapt the Traditional Values Letter -- indeed, the entire campaign including a lawsuit if necessary -- to the situation in your province or state. And God will bless you for standing up for what is right according to His laws.

Happiest people on earth?

You would think that Americans, living in the greatest nation on earth -- if you don't believe that, just ask them -- would be the happiest people on earth. You would be wrong, according to the Earth Institute of Columbia University.

In its first ever "Happiness Report", the Earth Institute says the four happiest countries are all in Northern Europe: Denmark, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands. The four least happy countries are all poor countries of sub-Saharan Africa: Togo, Benin, the Central African Republic and Sierra Leone.

Europe happy; Africa unhappy. No surprises so far. But what of North America? Canada ranks 5th on the survey's "Cantril Ladder" (see page 31), and the USA... errr... 11th. And get this! Although the report finds the world has, broadly speaking, become a “little happier” in the past three decades, as living standards have risen, America is an exception. In the United States, life satisfaction has not improved.

All of which proves that wealth alone doesn’t make people happy. (The USA is not the richest country either, but it's well up there.) Other than income, key factors in defining happiness include: political freedom, strong social networks and an absence of corruption. These things, the authors say, are "together more important than income in explaining well-being differences between the top and bottom countries."

At the individual level, "good mental and physical health, someone to count on, job security and stable families are crucial." What does that last one say about societies where public discourse is dominated by "progressive thinkers" who are actively working against families and family values?

The authors of the "Happiness Report" believe that stable family life and enduring marriages are important for the happiness of parents and children. Yet our "mainstream" politicians and lamestream media keep telling us that gay marriage, divorce and abortion are not just "human rights", but good for our society. Some cognitive dissonance there, surely!

Ron or Rick? Walt explains his choice

A reader in New Hampshire asks if Walt is voting today. For Ron Paul or Rick Perry. The answer is "no". Lifetime pct .982. But I really should explain.

My religious and political biases are fairly obvious. For a good summary, see my profile. I also like the motto "Live Free or Die". Which presidential wannabe shares my beliefs? Certainly not the incumbent. So that leaves the Republicans.

Of the shower that have tossed their hats into the ring, only two don't make my gorge rise. They would be Rick Santorum or Ron Paul. In previous posts I've declared for Congressman Paul. [For all the good that does him. Ed.] But I've watched and listen to Mr. Santorum a lot since the Iowa surprise, and like much of what I see.

A former aide to Santorum once called him "a Catholic missionary who happens to be in the Senate". Mr. Santorum appears to be a real jump-through-the-hoops traditional Catholic, not one of these modern "cafeteria Catholics" who think they can dissent from the Church's teachings and still call themselves "Catholic". (Step forward, Newt! Step forward, Nancy!)

Mr. Santorum stands firm against abortion, "gay rights" (especially "gay marriage"), sodomy and other perversions. He goes right down the line with Holy Mother Church in favour of family values and the right to life. In It Takes a Family (2005), Santorum says that family values are the foundation on which all else must stand.

Pope Benedict XVI would agree. In his annual "State of the World" address to the Vatican diplomatic corps, the Holy Father laid heavy emphasis on the threats to the dignity of life and the family, violations of religious freedom, and the continuing economic crisis.

So... if religion and family values were the only issues to be thought about, I'd be plumping for Rick Santorum. Unfortunately for Mr. Santorum -- and for America -- there are other concerns to be dealt with, not the least of which is the economic crisis of which the Pope spoke.

As I said on Saturday, I worry that the LGBT crowd, the "progressive thinkers" and the lamestream media are going to focus solely on Mr. Santorum's "divisive" views on gender and abortion, and ignore what he has to say about economics and foreign policy -- issues on which Santorum's views seem to me fuzzy and indistinct.

As nearly as I can tell, Rick Santorum believes that more government intervention is the answer to America's economic woes. Before he got clobbered in the 2006 election, he supported Dubya's "compassionate conservatism" -- pouring more taxpayers' money down the ratholes of welfare, medicare and the general doing of good for the "disadvantaged".

The only difference between that view and, say, Obama's is that the compassionate conservatives would channel the money through faith-based organizations rather than hand it directly to the baby mamas and drug addicts. But, IMHO, redistributing wealth is not the answer.

So also on foreign policy. Mr. Santorum has no ideas, let alone policies, other than to stay the course, do what's been done for the last half-century, only do it better. He offers no plan to write finis to America's act as policeman and saviour of the world. Nor does he propose reducing the military budget and bringing US forces home from foreign sandpits where they are doing more harm than good.

The only -- repeat, only -- candidate addressing these issues is Ron Paul. People ask if there's any difference between Mr. Paul and Mr. Santorum and the "other conservatives". There is pawlenty. (Sorry!) To me, the critical thing -- the one thing that would make me vote for Ron Paul and not Rick Santorum -- is Mr. Paul's libertarianism.

Ron Paul believes in less government, not more. He believes America should disentangle itself from the snares of the Middle East and the rest of the Third World. I may be overstating the case a bit, but I read Mr. Paul as saying the government should just get out of the way and leave people alone. I couldn't agree more!

Finally, a word about electability. The lamestream media would have us believe that only the Mormon candidate has a chance of beating the Muslim (?) candidate. It may be that Ron Paul and Rick Santorum cannot attract the votes of the "moderate majority". But that doesn't mean they should shut up and go home.

And it doesn't mean they're wrong. Remember Barry Goldwater. If you're British, remember Enoch Powell. Both Goldwater and Powell painted word pictures of what would happen if the "moderate" and "mainstream" views of their opponents prevailed. Both Goldwater and Powell were vilified as mean-spirited, right-wing nutbars, and soundly defeated. And both turned out to be right!

Footnote: Contrary to the Reuters report of the Holy Father's speech, Pope Benedict did not refer specifically to "gay marriage", although his condemnation of this perversion was certainly implicit in his remarks on the crisis in family life. NY bishops condemn legalization of same-sex "marriage"

The Roman Catholic bishops of the state of New York have issued a statement lamenting the State Senate’s 33-29 vote approving the legalization of same-sex marriage. Governor Andrew Cuomo, who calls himself a Catholic, signed the measure into law.

"The passage by the Legislature of a bill to alter radically and forever humanity’s historic understanding of marriage leaves us deeply disappointed and troubled," said the bishops. "We strongly uphold the Catholic Church’s clear teaching that we always treat our homosexual brothers and sisters with respect, dignity and love. But we just as strongly affirm that marriage is the joining of one man and one woman in a lifelong, loving union that is open to children, ordered for the good of those children and the spouses themselves. [Walt's emphasis.]

"This definition cannot change, though we realize that our beliefs about the nature of marriage will continue to be ridiculed, and that some will even now attempt to enact government sanctions against churches and religious organizations that preach these timeless truths." [See preceding post on the David Parker case. Ed.]

"We worry that both marriage and the family will be undermined by this tragic presumption of government in passing this legislation that attempts to redefine these cornerstones of civilization," the bishops added. "Our society must regain what it appears to have lost – a true understanding of the meaning and the place of marriage, as revealed by God, grounded in nature, and respected by America’s foundational principles."

Senator Mark Grisanti, another so-called Catholic who voted for the bill, admitted that he was torn by the question, since same-sex marriage was at odds with the teaching of the Church. "I know that with this decision, many people who voted for me will question my integrity," Grisanti said. But he claimed that he had not heard a strong argument against legal recognition of same-sex marriage. Apparently he wasn't listening to Archbishop Timothy Dolan, of New York, who issued a clear statement of opposition to the measure.

In a separate statement after the vote, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn denounced the state's "corrupt political process" and "asked all Catholic schools to refuse any distinction or honors bestowed upon them this year by the governor or any member of the legislature who voted to support this legislation."

"Today, Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state legislature have deconstructed the single most important institution in human history,” Bishop DiMarzio said. “Republicans and Democrats alike succumbed to powerful political elites and have passed legislation that will undermine our families and as a consequence, our society."

Started your Christmas shopping yet?

It's terrible to have to write so soon about getting ready for Christmas. Also terrible that it occurred to me to say "the winter holidays", just in case there might be some "readers of other faiths" who might be offended by my daring to speak of Christmas. But I digress...

Christmas catalogues are starting to arrive in Walt's mailbox. Many years ago, two big department stores, fiercely competitive one with the other, used to send out big, thick "dream books". I and my siblings used to pore over these by the light of the flickering candle, while big white flakes of snow fell past the hoarfrosted windows [Get on with it! Ed.]

Yes, well... Sadly, the days of the huge Christmas catalogues are over. Gone are the books with pictures of everything from soup to nuts...literally. Now I'm seeing slim pamphlets from specialty retailers of chocolates, electronic goods, and, of course, toys and games.

There's a marketer called Calendar Club which specializes in -- guess what -- calendars. Apparently they're not making a large or even small fortune selling calendars, so they've added to their catalogue a section called "+ toys & games".

I didn't see any toys but there are all kinds of board and table games. Included are two pages of "word games" -- all variants on Scrabble and Yahtzee. They also have "games that make you think", the descriptions of which make me think, "Who on earth would buy this?"

Under "adult games", where I was looking for "Twister", I found "You might be a redneck if..." which is based on "Jeff Foxworthy Redneck jokes", whatever they are.

But best of all, under "family and party games", you can now buy a great new game called "FART!" Yep, that's the name of the game, folks. [It's supposed to have a "TM" after it. Ed.] Here's the catalogue description:

Flatulent fun with a CD player... Fart! is the side-splitting, sound-sational game that helps players unwind and release a little pressure! Players race to be the first to play out their cards while accompanied by a fast'n'frantic fart chorus that keeps them in stitches! Wild hilarity at the press of a button!

I guess it was only a matter of time until someone thought of a way to make a buck on such favourites as "Burglar Burglar", and the old artificial-fart-under-the-arm trick. Fun for the whole family! Who said good taste is dead?
