VIDEO: Only a black person can tell this truth

"Some folks is black; some folks is jes' niggers." A black person I know told me that a long time ago. She was talking about the difference between, say, the black men portrayed by Sidney Poitier in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? or Bill Cosby playing Cliff Huxtable, and the black men you see in rap videos, and often later in the dock.

There's always some truth behind stereotypes. Unfortunately, you can't speak the truth about the differences between the two stereotypes any more, let alone use the ninth word of this post. Unless, that is, you're a person of colour, preferably of the female persuasion. Here's a black lady who isn't afraid to say the quiet part out loud.

Don't be calling her comment racist. This isn't about racial differences. It's about the difference between those who have enough culture and class to act like civilized human beings, and those who don't. Period.

Black crime in America, by the numbers

Know this guy? He's a rap artiste who goes by the name of Kodak Black. Some "musicians" have a harder time than others staying on the right side of the law than others. In the South Florida hip-hop scene, Kodak Black is one of the more frequent offenders. Born Dieuson Octave in Pompano Beach FL, has a record (bad pun intended) as long as your arm, which I'll synopsize here to make a point.

According to Wikipedia, from 2015 to 2016, Mr Black/Octave has been arrested for assault, robbery, kidnapping, driving with a suspended licence, armed robbery, battery, false imprisonment of a child, possession of cannabis, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and fleeing from officers.

In August of 2016, he appeared in court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Atlantic Records Vice-President (((Michael Kushner))) told the court he "has a bright future as a recording artist." After pleading no contest to all charges, he was placed on house arrest for one year, had five years' probation, was to perform community service as required, and take anger management classes.

In September of 2016, Kodak Black pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor drug charges and was sentenced to four months in jail. He was credited for time spent in custody awaiting trial and was required to serve 120 days. He was also suspended from driving for one year.

He was released from jail in Florida, and was then transported to Florence SC to face charges of sexual assault. The victim testified that she had attended a February 2016 performance by Kodak Black, after which she accompanied him to his hotel room where he is alleged to have told her he "couldn't help himself" as he tore off her clothes, bit her repeatedly, and raped her as she screamed for help.

After posting a $100,000 bond, Mr Black was released from custody on 1 December 2016. He returned to court on 8 February 2017, after being arrested again for violation of his probation. In April of 2017, Kodak Black was indicted by a grand jury in South Carolina, and was scheduled to go on trial in April 2019 in Florence, South Carolina on a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. This was later postponed.

Also in April 2017, he appeared in court in Florida, where his anger management counsellor spoke about him disrupting her class, by constantly burping, even after he was asked to leave. When the counsellor threatened to call 9-1-1, he grabbed her phone and her wrist. Being a good liberal, she recommended that Mr Black participate in individual, rather than group. On 4 May 2017, he was sentenced for violating his house arrest to 364 days in the Broward County Jail, with the possibility of an early release if he completes a "life skills" course. He was released on one month later.

In January of 2018, Kodak Black was arrested inside of his Pembroke Pines FL home on multiple charges stemming from an Instagram live-feed video showing him passing marijuana and a gun around a small child. He initially faced seven felony charges including child neglect, grand theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and marijuana possession. On 22 February 2018, three charges were dropped, and he pleaded not guilty to the remaining two. On 17 April, he was sentenced to 364 days in prison with credit for time served. He was released on 18 August 2018.

Mr Black/Octave cooled it for a few months in Canada, to which he was admitted in spite of his criminal record. Then, on 17 April 2019, he was arrested by United States Customs and Border Protection after border authorities found marijuana and a Glock in his car. He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of marijuana. A week, while he was out on bail and on tour, the FBI and Boston cops searched one his tour buses [plural? Ed.] in which they found weapons. Kodak didn't get pinched on that one because it was "unclear" whether or not the bus was actually his.

They got him on 11 May, though, when Miami and federal officers arrested him on state and federal firearm charges, plus two counts of making a false statement on a governmental form, apparently stemming from his attempt to purchase firearms in January. He filed to use his $600,000 home as collateral for his $500,000 bond for the indictments and was granted the bond, being released. He reportedly faced up to ten years in prison on the charges, and pleaded not guilty on 15 May.

Federal prosecutors, however, attempted to revoke Kodak Black's bail, pointing to past violent crimes, such as a 2012 carjacking incident, and his possible connections to a shooting in March of 2019. The arrest had the potential to cause his bond in the 2016 South Carolina rape case to be revoked. Federal prosecutors stated that he posed a danger to society [Imagine dat! Ed.] due to his long history of criminal acts as well as his repeated violation of past probation rules.

[How much more is there? Ed.] Still quite a bit. On 11 March 2020, Kodak Black pleaded guilty to a firearms possession charge related to his detention at the Canada-US border. The court considered a sentence of 2 to 7 years, to run concurrently with his 46-month sentencing for lying on federal paperwork. On 19 January 2021, President Trump commuted the sentence for the 2020 conviction, but he still faced the Florence SC charges. On 28 April 2021, Kodak pled guilty to a lesser charge of first degree assault and battery, and was sentenced to 18 months probation.

But wait (as Vince Offer used to say), there's still more... A couple of months later, Kodak failed a drug test, which was a violation of his supervised release terms. He was subsequently ordered by a judge to enter a rehab centre for 90 days, from which he was discharged in December.

Sure enough, on New Year's Day 2022, Kodak was arrested in Pompano Beach FL for trespassing. This past July 15th, his vehicle was stopped by Florida Highway Patrol because the window tint appeared darker than the legal limit. His driver’s license and vehicle tag were also expired. Police detected a smell of marijuana and searched the vehicle, finding a bag with 31 oxycodone tablets and almost $75,000 in cash. He was charged with trafficking in oxycodone and possession of a controlled substance, and on 20 July was placed on house arrest, having violated the terms of his supervised release.

Kodak Black is by way of being a poster child for the criminal stereotype of Black (or African-American or the current PC term) males, i.e. that they are all dangerous criminals. About the only thing Mr Black hasn't been found guilty of, so far, is murder.

The origin of this stereotype is the fact that as a demographic, black men are proportionally over-represented in the numbers of those that are arrested and convicted for committing crimes. In 2015, according to official FBI statistics, 51.1% of people arrested for homicide were black, even though blacks account for just 13.4% of the total population of the US of A. That is the source of the 13/52 meme which is now derided liberals as a white supremacist excuse for anti-black racism.

But those are 2015's figures, right? Surely things have improved since then, with progressive Democrats in the White House and in control of Congress. Right? Errr, no. In 2021, blacks accounted for 60.4% of known murder offenders -- a new record for black dominance of murders, up from a record 56.5% in 2020.

You can argue until you're blue [or red? Ed.] in the face about the reasons for this phenomenon, but the fact is that the new meme is 13/60! Nothing can be done to solve the problem of deadly black crime problem until the liberals admit the errors of their ideology, and face up to the truth.

Note from Ed.: Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith, pictured above, are both of the coloured persuasion, and both describe themselves as rap artists.

VIDEO: "Sorry about Apu" (sez Hank Azaria)

In the New Woke America, it was bound to happen. Today, longtime The Simpsons actor Hank Azaria has apologized to "every Indian person" for his voice characterization of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the owner of the Springfield Kwik-E-Mart. If you've been living off the TV grid for the last four decades, heeeeere's Apu!

Of course we all know that Indians don't sound like Russell Peters imitating his father, unless they just got off the boat five minutes ago. And the idea of an Indian owning a convenience store? Ridiculous! Everyone knows that convenience stores are owned by Koreans! If you don't believe me, watch Kim's Convenience, on CBC-TV. Oh wait, it's been cancelled.

All the same, The Simpsons has been under fire for years for its depiction of Apu, whose thick Indian accent — voiced by a man who happens to be, errr, white — caused backlash and accusations of... wait for it... racism. In 2017, the documentary The Problem With Apu examined "the damage of the portrayal and enduring stereotype, and how that rippled through society over decades."

Mr Azaria, who apparently was something of a tippler, decided to step away from the role in 2020, after he sobered up. In his statement today, he said, "I really do apologize. I know you weren't asking for that, but it's important. I apologize for my part in creating that and participating in that. Part of me feels like I need to go to every single Indian person in this country and personally apologize. And sometimes I do."

So, farewell then, Apu. Come back again!

Note from Ed.: Did you catch the part where Apu almost flunks his citizenship test for giving a politicfally incorrect answer about the causes of the Civil War?

What next? No more "fighting Irish"?

We live in a time of unparalleled iconoclasm. First it was statues that offended or "triggered" snowflakes and SJWs. Now it's mascots, logos and even team names. See "'Racist' logos, 'racist' mascots, 'racist' names - Where will it end?", WWW 20/1/18.

The great "racist" mascot controversy, occasioned by the Cleveland Indians pussified owner's decision to get rid of Chief Wahoo, is far from over. In the first of these posts, I warned that the PC police wouldn't stop at banning "racist" visual depictions of Native Americans. Historic team names -- Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, Atlanta Braves and Chicago Blackhawks -- will have to go. And why stop with Indians? What about other "marginalized people"?

Like who (I hear you ask)? Well, how about the poor, down-trodden Irish? You know, people like the Kennedys. Haven't they been offended by the stereotype of Irish men as a bunch of combative drunks? You know... the Fighting Irish... which also happens to be the name of the Notre Dame football team. The team has a mascot/logo too, an angry leprechaun whose name I'm waiting for Poor Len to tell me.

As surely as day follows night, during a debate over Chief Wahoo on ESPN's First Take today, co-host Max Kellerman called on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to follow the lead of the Cleveland team and get rid of their "pernicious" mascot (whatever his name is) because a minority in the Irish community group are offended by it. "[M]any Irish Americans are not offended, but many are," Mr Kellerman said. And should [the mascot] also change? The answer is unequivocally yes! ... Pernicious, negative stereotypes of marginalized people that offend even some among them should be changed. It's not that hard."

So Mr Kellerman thinks. As someone with about a pint of Irish in his blood, I'm warning him and all the other PC pussies that oi'll fight ivry man-jack o' yez if ye try to mess with our beloved mascot, whoever he is. Bejaysus it makes me blood boil! Why, oi'll..." Oh... wait... Well, stereotypes usually have some basis in fact, don't they. I say, take your political correctness and stick it!

VIDEO: "Teens trash GA Wal-Mart" - are racial stereotypes wrong?

Walt was checking the mojo wire just now and saw a story headlined "Teens storm Georgia Wal-Mart". Here, without editorial comment, is the story which followed.

Authorities in central Georgia say up to 50 teenagers bent on destruction raced into a Wal-Mart in Macon, smashing merchandise and causing an estimated $2,000 in damage. Bibb County sheriff's officials say some of the young people snatched a man from a motorized shopping cart and dragged him to the floor during the rampage around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Sheriff's officials said one of the teens later told a Wal-Mart employee the goal was to see how much damage they could cause. Sheriff's officials say floors were coated with broken merchandise.

The Telegraph reports that the teens ran when deputies arrived, but a 17-year-old boy was arrested when he returned to the store to retrieve his cellphone.

Notice that nowhere in the headline or the text is any mention made of the race of the miscreants. Why is it, then, that I knew -- and so did you -- without even looking, that the youthful miscreants would be black? Are we all guilty of racial profiling? Are we all the kind of people who have Confederate flags draped across the back window of our pickups? Or could it be that there are reasons for every racial stereotype...

Here, then, is the last sentence of the wire service report.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said investigators are using surveillance video to try and identify suspects.
And here's the video.

VIDEO: Woman NOT eating raw bird on Montréal subway

The Internet is a wonderful thing -- a great way to disseminate misinformation around the world in a millisecond. Nowhere is this more amply demonstrated than on YouTube, where things are seldom what they seem. ["Skim milk masquerades as cream..." I know that one. Ed.] Here is what the YouTube caption describes as a "woman plucking and eating a live bird" on the Montréal Métro (subway).

To set the record straight... Yes, it is a woman. She has bravely come forward and identified herself as Christina David, an Inuk -- "Eskimo" is not longer PC -- and former resident of Nunavik, in the far reaches of the Great White North. And yes, she is plucking a large bird -- a goose her aunt brought her from home. But that's as far as it goes.

The goose had already been killed. And Ms David did not eat it on the subway train. She was just making good use of her time while taking the bird home to be cooked. On Facebook she explained: "I couldn't wait. I only had one this year it's not like we get to eat our country food everyday it's very very rare that we can eat like we usually do up North. But I didn't care. I was just...enjoying [it] and on top of it I couldn't wait to go home so I can put it on the big pan with onions and mushrooms."

After the YouTube video went viral, Ms David had her collar felt by the local gendarmes, and was made to appear in provincial court on Thursday last. But she stood by her actions. "I will never ever forget anything. I will always be a real Inuk for ever 'til I'm gone," she wrote on FB.

Walt says good for her, and shame on people who take and post cellphone vids which, through malice or (more likely) ignorance, they totally misrepresent. To whoever took this one, Walt says, mind your own business!

Canucks drop image of "Asian-looking" woman from $100 bill

This is Bank of Canada's new $100 note, introduced in November 2011. Please examine the reverse (shown above) for images of racist stereotypes. Noooo... it's not the guy with the moustache, although he looks (and was) kinda WASPy. It's the woman peering into the microscope! Can't you see that she's Asian?!

Well, Walt couldn't see it either... even though he can tell the Chinese from the Japanese from the Filipinas at 50 yards. To me she just looks politically correct, i.e. not identifiable as a member of any particular race. And so it's meant to be, because this is not the original design!

Canadian Press did some digging, using the Access to Information Act. They learned that the Bank of Canada quietly had the image redrawn before the new bill was introduced, because focus group testing revealed that the first drawing made the researcher look -- horrors! -- Asian!

A 2009 report from Strategic Counsel warned the bank, "Some have concerns that the researcher appears to be Asian. Some believe that it presents a stereotype of Asians excelling in technology and/or the sciences. Others feel that an Asian should not be the only ethnicity represented on the banknotes. Other ethnicities should also be shown."

A few even said the yellow-brown colour of the banknote reinforced the perception the woman was Asian, and "racialized" the note. Toronto focus groups were positive about the image of an Asian woman because "it is seen to represent diversity or multiculturalism". Toronto, as regular readers know, adores diversity.

However, in QuĂ©bec "the inclusion of an Asian without representing any other ethnicities was seen to be contentious". And in Fredericton NB, one person commented, "The person on it appears to be of Asian descent which doesn’t rep(resent) Canada. It is fairly ugly." The image might have played better in the Anglo half of New Brunswick of the woman had been doing laundry.

The bank, in a display of wussiness unusual even for Canada, immediately ordered the design redrawn, imposing a "neutral ethnicity" on the hitherto-"Asian" woman, resulting in the inoffensive image you see above. The scientist's light features and perky 50s-style hairdo make her look, well, a bit like June Cleaver. All she needs is an apron instead of the lab coat.

Canadian taxpayers will doubtless be delighted to know that Strategic Counsel's fee for studying what Canadians think of putting "Asian" scientists on their money was a mere C$53,000 (US$53,530).

Footnote: The Bank of Canada refused to release the original design. Walt's operative in Ottawa has been dumpster diving and found this behind the Bank of Canada building. Could this be the original essay? Is Canada's prime minister a conservative? Who knows...

More about chavs

According to Wikipedia, the word "chav" (see previous post) probably has its origins in the Romani word "chavi", meaning "child" or "chavo" meaning "boy", or "chavvy", meaning "youth". The word may have entered the English language through the Geordie dialect word "charva", meaning a rough child.

Many urban legends have sprung up around the etymology of the word. These include the backronym "Council Housed And Violent" or "Council House Associated Vermin". Though widely known and believed, these are definitely recent after-the-event inventions as attempts to explain the word.

The widespread use of the "chav" stereotype has come in for some criticism as amounting to no more than simple snobbery and elitism. Critics of the term have argued that its users are "neo-snobs", and that its increasing popularity raises questions about how British society deals with social mobility and class.

In a February 2005 article in The Times, Julie Burchill argued that use of the word is a form of "social racism", and that such "sneering" reveals more about the shortcomings of the "chav-haters" than those of their supposed victims. The writer John Harris argued along similar lines in a 2007 article in The Guardian. And that is the premise of Owen Jones's book, referred to in my last post.

Do we have chavs in North America? Your comments are invited.

Why we have stereotypes

From north of the world's longest undefended (?) border comes a news item from Winnipeg. Winnipeg is kind of like Canada's answer to Des Moines -- a good place to be from.

On September 13th of last year, a woman walked into a convenience store [love that oxymoron! ed.] and shoplifted a $1.49 can of "luncheon meat". Perhaps it was Spam. The owner of the store allegedly chased the woman out of the store. Five days later, the woman died, perhaps from injuries inflicted by a baseball bat.

The woman's name was Geraldine Beardy. She was 29 when she died. She was what Canadians call a "First Nations person". That's the politically correct way to say "Indian", a term which went out of use because people got tired of having to put adjectives like "red" or "East" in front of it.

The convenience store proprietor, aged 62, is a gentleman named Kwang Soo Kim. Mr. Kim is ... wait for it ... Korean. Now, a mere eight months after they were notified of the incident, Winnipeg police have charged Mr. Kim with manslaughter.

Walt's only comment is that the reason we have stereotypes is that behind the stereotypes lie stories that give rise to them. Not all people who comment on the propensities of certain racial and ethnic groups to do (or not do) certain things are racists. Some are just realists.
