Another Wally award: Best AOC meme of 2020
Walt is a little shell-shocked today. Not because I live in Philthydelphia. I don't, thanks be to God. It's just the incessant Big Thunder of the lamestream barrage of lies about Still-President Trump and flak to distract our attention from the problems of the Bidens, père et fils, with black money and drugs. My mind is really reeling from the assault on my eyes and ears, and the insults to my intelligence. Dear reader, arentcha sick of it too?
Fortunately, there are pleasant distractions. The 2020 election has generated more snarky videos and memes than ever before, even more than the 2016 slugfest. I was going to wait until the dust settled before awarding the coveted Wally Award for Best Meme, but this one, seen today on Blazing Cat Fur, looks like a sure winner.

"No time for moderation, no time for Biden" sez Michael Moore
It would be easy to dismiss obese American film-maker Michael Moore as a left-wingnut who is completely out of touch with the political sentiments of the majority of the American people. But you can't, because every now and then Mr Moore demonstrates remarkable insight into the mood of the public. When it comes to Democratic party politics, he has given more than one fairly accurate prognosis of events to come. Remember his wise words in Trumpland, a one-man stage show he created to endorse Hellerey Clinton, which turned out to explain perfectly why average Americans (especially those in states like Michigan) voted for Donald Trump.
A couple of days ago, Michael Moore tweeted a dire warning to Democrats: Nominate former Veep Old Joe Biden and risk alienating progressive voters come 2020. The first sin for which he chastises Mr Biden was his attendance at a fundraiser hosted by (((Andrew Goldman))), the founder of the natural gas company Western LNG. As is well known, taking petrodollars is a no-no for all right-thinking [Don't you mean "left-thinking"? Ed.] persons. Here's the Tweet.
"Last night on CNN, a student asked Biden, who had pledged to take NO fossil fuel money, why he was having an NYC fundraiser tonight hosted by Andrew Goldman, the founder of the natural gas co Western LNG. Biden denied it. Then CNN said it was true & that Biden is attending. Wow. We can NOT go through this again, my friends. As with Hillary taking Goldman Sachs $$, then trying to pretend nothing happened, we can NOT risk this again."
The leading light of the commentariat opined that Still-President Trump's issues and supposed divisiveness, by themselves, would not be enough to compel progressives into punching the 2020 Democritic ticket if Mr Biden were at the head of it. "Our base will stay home once more if Biden is the candidate. If they see he's in cahoots w/ fossil fuel, that he has lied. They will not say, 'So what -- Trump's a bigger liar!' They will just give up. Trust me on this."
Mr Moore says that the only antidote to Trump is an "anti-Trump" who is not afraid to fight the incumbent hard in his/her bid for the White House. "We need a completely honest and authentic candidate, the Anti-Trump, a street fighter, and someone who when they say they'll take NO fossil fuel $$, they not only keep their promise, they go after tooth-and-nail and put somebody like Andrew Goldman out of business. They don’t attend a fundraiser of his fat cats!"
Michael Moore's last words for Creepy Uncle Joe? Apologize to the American people and step down to make room for an authentic candidate. "Joe -- you’re driving there right now. For God's sake, turn your limousine around immediately and apologize to the American people. You think [you] can beat Trump. So what! Hillary beat him! Didn’t matter! We need a candidate who will CRUSH him because that candidate has INSPIRED a tsunami of voters with her or his INTEGRITY; his/her progressive vision of what the 21st century should be. That, Joe, isn't you.
"Finally, last night [you] said that we are only 15% of the climate change problem. 85% of it is the rest of the world’s (fault). Are you serious? Wall Street, Corporate America, the poor everywhere who make our goods [for] us, our exploitation of the entire planet — please, Joe, stop!"
While Michael Moore indeed hates Still-President Trump and wants to see him lose, in recent months he (Moore) has been chiding the Democritic establishment for pushing Joe Biden while trying to belittle the progressive base. In a February interview on MSNBC, he told the Dems, "If you’re being moderate, stop being moderate. Take a position. There's no middle ground anymore. There's no halfway point to should somebody be paid a living wage. You know, on the issue of choice, there is no halfway there. You're either for it or you're against it. Do you believe in equal rights for women? Do you believe we should have an Equal Rights Amendment? There's no middle ground. There's no time for moderation."
Indeed. Walt hopes... and I say this sincerely... that the Dems take Michael Moore seriously and nominate a real progressive -- AOC, say, or Pete Buttgeig -- someone that all right-thinking Americans [Don't you mean "left-thinking"? Ed.] can't help but love and vote for.

Poster boy for liberalism accuses liberals of being illiberal
Piers Morgan, seen here kissing Peter Andre [Who he? Ed.], is one of those annoying liberals who can't decide if he's a journalist or media personality or celebrity or what -- a poster boy for "jack of all trades, master of none".He likes to think of himself as Britain's answer to (((Jon Stewart))) [Who he? Ed.], but his act has not played well on either side of the Atlantic. The British satirical magazine Private Eye refers to him as "Piers Moron". That and this picture are all ye need to know.
But, it seems, even certified [certifiable? Ed.] liberals can only take so much political correctness, forced diversity, triumphant omnisexuality and other manifestations of the liberal ethos. Even Mr Moron has started to plead for an end to it.
In an interview with Ben Shapiro of Turning Point UK, posted yesterday on Twitter, the voice of liberal orthodoxy said, "Populism is rising because liberals have become unbearable, and I speak as a liberal. In my core, I'm probably more liberal than not, although fundamentally, I see myself as a journalist, and I'd like to see both sides of all these things, and I can argue both. But liberals have become utterly, pathetically illiberal, and it's a massive problem.
"What's the point in calling yourself a liberal if you don't allow anyone else to have a different view? This snowflake culture that we now operate in, this victimhood culture -- you know, everyone has to think a certain way, behave a certain way. Everyone has to have a bleeding heart and tell you 20 things that are wrong with them.
"I just think it's all completely skewed to an environment where everyone's offended by everything and no one's allowed to say a joke. If you said a joke ten years ago that offended somebody, you can never host the Oscars. So now there's no host for anything. The Emmys now just said they're not gonna host either. So hosts have gone, and soon every award winner will go because everyone's a human and they're all flawed.
"So no one can win award anymore because there will be no platform before they even get on the podium. So then, no hosts, no stars. Then no one can make any movies because we're all flawed. So, no actors. So suddenly, where are we? The liberals get what they want, which is a humourless void where nothing happens, where no one dared do anything, or laugh about anything to behave in any way that doesn't suit their rigid way of leading a life. No thanks.
"So, what's happening around the world? Populism is rising because people are fed up with the PC culture. They're fed up with snowflakery. They're fed up with everyone being offended by everything, and they're gravitating toward forceful personalities who go, 'This is all nonsense,' which, by the way, it is, in most cases.
"So why are we surprised? I'm not surprised. It doesn't mean that I agree with all of it, but it means I can understand it. And I understand why the liberals -- my side, if you like -- are getting it so horribly wrong. They just wanna tell people not just how to lead their lives, but, 'If you don't lead it the way I tell you to,' -- it's a kind of version of fascism -- 'If you don’t lead the life the way I'm telling you to, then I'm gonna ruin your life. I'm gonna scream abuse at you. I'm gonna get you fired from your job, I'm gonna get you hounded by your family and friends. I'm gonna make you the most disgusting human being in the world."
I lifted that lengthy quote from "Top liberal champion: 'Liberals have become unbearable'", by Joe Kovacs, writing on WND.com yesterday. Mr Kovacs adds that, in July, Mr Morgan penned an op-ed piece for the Daily Mail, in which he said if President Donald Trump gets re-elected, it would be the result of this "radical, socialist, snowflake" mindset that has recently been personified by four female Democrats in Congress.
"Who would Donald Trump most like to face as Democrat nominee in the forthcoming 2020 election?" he asked. "I'd hazard a guess it would be a young, female, screechy, super-woke, easily triggered radical socialist snowflake with a disdainful view of America. In fact, I can narrow it down more specifically to any one of the Squad -- the four newly elected firebrand Democratic congresswomen of color currently lighting up US politics: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna S. Pressley."
If I'd said that, the never-Trumpers would accuse me of being a shill for Still-President Trump [Shurely not! Ed.] and much worse. But there it is, from the mouth (or some other orifice) of a certified liberal.

"Blue wave" a mere ripple; Trump still POTUS!
As early as 1800 FMT (Fort Mudge Time) the lamestream media pundits and perplexed pollsters were starting to wonder when they were going to see the Democrats' "Blue Wave". Hours went by, and the social justice tsunami failed to materialize. Talk of mountains and molehills? The threatened Blue Wave turned out to be a mere ripple! Here's the Fox News results map showing how things turned out. [Memo from Ed. to Fox News: Hope you don't mind. We don't make any money out of WWW, and we gave ya a plug!]
This morning's official line from the Clinton News Network, the NY Times and WaPo, is that the Democrats "took back control of the House of Representatives", while the Republicans "hung onto the Senate." Hey! Look at the map! There are 435 seats in the House. At last count, with 23 seats not yet declared, the Demns got 219 -- one more than half! Some "control"! As for the Senate, with one seat still undecided, the Republicans increased their numbers to 52.
What does this mean for the future of the US of A and for federal politics over the next two years? Militant Democrats are already hatching plots to use several powerful committees, which they will now chair, including the lower chamber's Intelligence, Ways and Means, Foreign Affairs and Judiciary committees, to stall the President's legislative agenda and generally do as much damage as they can to POTUS.
Using subpoenas, they will be able to seek access to President Trump's long sought-after tax returns. They will also be ratcheting up the probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The lefties are talking again about impeachment, chances of which are, realistically, slim and none.
The usual "analysts" are saying that Republicans will no longer be able to pass legislation without help from the Democrats, meaning that pushing through conservative bills -- on immigration and tax reform, for instance -- will become more difficult. Likewise, the Democrats are claiming to have "saved Obamacare" and protected the rights of those with pre-existing health conditions.
The fact is that derailing the President's legislative agenda is not going to be that easy. The Demns have a larger, but more fractious caucus, with several left wing-nuts like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez keen to turn America into another "people's republic". But there is a larger group of moderates, many of whom only mentioned the word "Democrat" in six-point type at the bottom of their signs and campaign literature. They know that they will be up for re-election in just two years, and had better not oppose POTUS too violently or irrationally. Look what happened to the Democratic senators who opposed POTUS' nomination to the Supreme Court. Every Demn senator in a competitive race who voted against Judge Kavanaugh lost!
And the Republicans are still in charge of the Senate, more so than before. Any attempt to impeach President Trump, even if it passes the House, is doomed to failure, as the trial would have to take place in the Senate, where 66 votes are required to remove POTUS from office.
The Senate is also where the President's nominations to top Cabinet and judicial posts are confirmed, and this will be easier now than it was in the case of Justice Kavanaugh. This means the President and the Republicans will be able to seat more conservative federal judges, possibly including one or two more justices of the Supreme Court, should a couple of ancient lefties shuffle off this mortal coil in the next two years.
White House spokesthingy Sarah Huckabee-Sanders described the Senate results as "historic" and told reporters the election was "a huge moment and victory for the president." And just a few moments ago, the President Himself tweeted, "Now we can all get back to work and get things done!" Indeed. The first thing I'm going to do is go out to collect on my election bets. Lifetime pct .988.

UPDATED: Understanding geopolitics with the help of "1984"
Now the usual gang of gliberals, Democratic socialists, antifa Nazis and media stars are calling the President a traitor -- literally -- and unpatriotic for suggesting that the CIA and "military intelligence" (an oxymoron, for sure) might have been wrong on this one. If you think American "intelligence" never makes a mistake, perhaps you'd be interested in some of this yellowcake I can get for you, cheap! In spite of the ongoing witchhunt in Washington, nobody can say for sure what the Russians did or didn't do in the runup to the election. The thing sure is that what the Russians did (if anything) didn't have much effect (if any) on the result. The Democrats and other "resisters" are still in denial that the American people chose The Donald over Crooked Hillary.
What, I wonder, do the anti-Trumpers think POTUS should have done at the historic meeting. Should he have pulled a Glock out of his pocket and shot the Russki-in-Chief in the face, like Michael Corleone in The Godfather? Of course not. He'd have been recognized!
Now the blaze in the anti-Trumpers hair has become an inferno because President Trump has invited President Putin to come and have a chat at the White House. With confusion still swirling around what the two men discussed behind closed doors in Helsinki, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said it’s important to "deal with the results" of their first summit before jumping too fast into a new one. But, he said, "Russia is always open to such proposals. We are ready for discussions on this subject."
Which is as it should be. Seems to me we're losing sight of the importance of the meeting itself. When the heads of two of the world's three super-powers sit down to talk, something good may come of it, or not, but, as Churchill supposedly said, "Jaw-jaw is better than war-war." [In fact it was one of Churchill's successors, Harold Macmillan, who put it exactly that way. According to his official biographer, Churchill's words were, "Meeting jaw to jaw is better than war." Ed.]
Those folks -- especially Republicans -- who criticize President Trump for making nice with President Putin should keep in mind that American foreign policy was badly in need of a reset after eight years of Obamian dithering and wimpishness, and POTUS is leading the much-needed change in direction.
This summer alone, he has stood up for America, to the discomfort of its "allies", at the G7 and NATO summits, sat eyeball-to-eyeball with Kim Jong-un (something no-one thought possible) and now in serious talks with the Russian president about Syria, the Ukraine and other matters of vital importance. All that and all POTUS gets is grief. Obama was only a few weeks into his presidensity, had done nothing (and never did) and what did they give him? The Nobel fucking prize!
The present geopolitical situation reminds me of that described by George Orwell in 1984. Writing at the beginning of the Cold War, Orwell predicted that, come the iconic year, the world would be divided into three super-states:
• Oceania -- including all of the Americas, southern Africa, Australia and the British Isles, the main location for the novel
• Eurasia -- Europe and most of the old Soviet Union, plus a little chunk of the Middle East
• Eastasia -- Japan, Korea, China and northern India.
The three states are in a perpetual state of warfare -- sometimes two against one, sometimes all three against each other. These wars are fought in the disputed territories, running from North Africa over the Middle East and southern India to Southeast Asia. Orwell's gift of prescience is spooky, isn't it?
There's not much "super" to Orwell's super-states except their size. All three are totalitarian dictatorships.Oceania's ideology is Ingsoc -- English Socialism, of the kind now being espoused by "socialist democrats" like Bernie Sanders and the latest political rock star, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Eurasia's state creed is Neo-Bolshevism, not unlike what Russia has today under the Putin régime.
Eastasia's politics and religion are blended into the Obliteration of the Self, something like the Buddhist-inspired fascism you might find (so they say) in today's Myanmar or Thailand.
These ideologies are very similar one to another, but the "proles" -- the common people -- are told the opposite. "Of course the Russians hate our American values! If you're not against Russia, you must be against America!" Sound familiar?
Orwell suggests that the conflicts between the super-states may not be real at all. It's clear that the media of Oceania are completely one-sided and in the habit of fabricating "facts" -- fake news! A dissident book central to the plot of 1984 suggests the two other powers may actually be a fabrication of the government of Oceania, which would make it the government of the entire world. An alternative theory is that "Airstrip One" (the British Isles) is not an outpost of a greater empire, but the sole territory under the command of Ingsoc, which fabricates eternal global war to keep its people permanently mobilised (check), scrutinized (check) and on rations (and check).
The world as portrayed in 1984 is purely fictional of course. The book was written in 1949. What George Orwell predicted could never happen... could it?
Further reading (by the sheerest coincidence): "The idea of Eurasia is once again the subject of geopolitics", by "Banyan", in The Economist, 19/7/18. "A growing number of strategists argue that the emergence of a cohering Eurasia is the key feature of a new world order that is taking shape.... The emerging order is one that Marco Polo would recognise." George Orwell too.
