Your Sikhs today: Diversity Truck Lines in $98 million drug bust

Before Walt answers the question "How do you know they're Sikhs?", let's read the entire story as it was reported today by one of Canada's top three agencies of the lickspittle media. [He means CTV News. Ed.]

A cross-border investigation involving police and border agencies in Canada and the U.S. has resulted in the seizure of nearly 1.7 tonnes [3.74 tons] of illegal drugs. Authorities are calling "Project Bay" one of Ontario’s largest single-investigation drug busts. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is more than $139 million [$98 million in real money].

According to police, the investigation targeted the importation and trafficking of illegal drugs linked to the Canada-U.S. border. The investigation started in January 2025 when police in Windsor ON launched a drug-trafficking probe. A month later, the Canada Border Services Agency joined the investigation as officers worked to identify a cross-border trafficking network.

Authorities said the investigation uncovered a broker-style operation within the commercial trucking industry that allegedly exploited established transportation networks to move illegal drugs across the border. Investigators allege the operation arranged for drivers to knowingly transport illicit substances through legitimate supply chains.

Police said the investigation also relied on support from several law enforcement partners. U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration assisted with the international aspects of the case, while Toronto police and Peel Regional Police provided operational and investigative support.

On June 25, investigators used 18 search warrants at homes and businesses in Windsor, Corunna, LaSalle, Brampton and Kleinburg. On July 14, two search warrants were used in Markham and Caledon, and on July 20, two search warrants were used in Brampton.

Considering that the CTV version doesn't list any names or other information which would identify the accused, I hear you asking: How do I know there are Sikhs involved? I've highlighted the clues contained in the text.

Are you still doubtful? OK, here the list of those charged, taken from the addendum to the police statement. (Two persons charged are "unnamed", as they haven't been arrested yet.)

Gagandip THINDAL, 27, Brampton, ON - 10 charges
Simranjit SINGH, 32, Brampton, ON - 12 charges
Kanwarpal KULAR, 32, LaSalle, ON - 2 charges
Jatinderpal SINGH, 39, Brampton, ON - 2 charges
Jasvinder SOHI, 55, Brampton, ON - 2 charges
Tejwinder SANDHU, 29, Brampton, ON - 2 charges
Harjwinder SANDHU, 33, Kitchener, ON - 2 charges
Haninderpal GREWAL, 34, Barrie, ON - 4 charges

Tarminder SINGH, 19, Brampton, ON - 9 charges
Steven SCUSSOLIN, 32, Windsor, ON - 2 charges
Avtar SAHOTA, 54, Shelburne, ON - 2 charges
Mohamed BINHASSAN, 41, Toronto, ON - 2 charges
Michele MOSCONE, 28, Windsor, ON - 26(!) charges
Gundeep TALIWAL, 32, Brampton, ON - 4 charges
Shawn BATTE, 44, Corunna, ON - 1 charge
Zain KHAWAJA, 28, Windsor, ON - 1 charge
Villy SCHWARTZ, 30, Markham, ON - 1 charge
Mehakpreet SINGH, 24, Brampton, ON - 8 charges
Karandeep SINGH, 27, Brampton, ON - 6 charges

I don't know how that "Schwartz" got in there, but of the 19 named accused we have... let's see... 5 "Singh"s, 2 "Sandhu"s and a "Grewal" (whose middle names are undoubtedly "Singh"), and 4 others with "South Asian" names who may or may not be "Singh"s. And 1 (only) Mohamed.

Some of the accused are likely graduates of the notorious Singh School of Truck Driving (HQ in Brampton ON), and probably employed by companies with names like Diversity Truck Lines. Anyone with information to the contrary is invited to blab in our "comments", or you can just call 1-800-222-TIPS.

Your Singhs today (Washington state edition) - Out on bail again!

Earlier today Walt posted a story about three Sikhs (and two non-Sikh accomplices) who are free to roam around the GTA once again following their release on bail by female DEI-hire judges. See "Your Singhs today: Guess which one is still behind bars", WWW 18/12/25.

It wasn't our usual story about atrocious truck driving and/or drug smuggling. The perps were accused of kidnapping and attempted murder. But there are still plenty of dangerous truck drivers out there, graduates of the infamous Singh School of Truck Driving.

One such is Kamalpreet Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, accused of killing a father of two in a horrific crash on December 11th. Mr Singh has now been released on bail by the woke authorities of Washington state.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a detainer for Mr Singh following his arrest after it was found he was in the country illegally. But that didn't matter to the Washington wokesters, who refused to honour the order. Poor Mr Singh was somehow able to raise $100,00 [not drug $$$, shurely. Ed.] to post bond, and was released from King County jail on Friday last.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a scathing press release Tuesday slamming the move, saying "Washington politicians chose to release this public safety threat back onto America’s roads." DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin told the Daily Caller that she was dismayed by the move, saying that "these demented and dangerous sanctuary policies have deadly consequences.... How many more Americans have to be killed before Democrat politicians start to put the public’s safety ahead of politics?"

But hey, Washington is a sanctuary state, where poor refugees, asylum-seekers and simple illegals are safe from federal immigration authorities. Officials said Singh entered the US of A illegally in 2023 at Lukeville AZ, but was, as Ms McLaughlin said, "'released into this country by the Biden administration."

A spokesthingy for the Washington State Patrol confirmed to the Daily Caller that Singh was driving with a commercial driver's licence issued by California. Just like Harjinder Singh, the asylum-seeker accused of killing three people in Florida in August when he made an illegal U-turn while also on the roads illegally.

Harjinder Singh is no relation to Kamalpreet Singh. What they share is fellowship in the Sikh religion, as well as a lack of English skills. He was unable to read street signs, but was handed a driver's license by California anyway.

It is illegal for undocumented immigrants to obtain a commercial driver's licence, but a federal government investigation found earlier this year that California had unlawfully issued 17,000 commercial driver's licences to migrants.

Commenting on the latest outrage, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that President Trump and Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy "will aggressively enforce our laws to protect the safety of American truckers, drivers, and passengers by ensuring anyone behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle is here legally, properly qualified, and proficient in our national language - English!'"

Mr Duffy threatened to withhold federal funding for highways in Blue states if they refused to respect and enforce the law. "If we’re going to have drivers on American roadways, they need to be the best trained…because if operated incorrectly or inappropriately, these [vehicles] are lethal weapons on American roadways," the Secretary said in a press conference.

He added, "We will pull every dollar possible from every single state that’s unwilling to work with this administration and these longstanding rules to make sure that when [an] American family gets in a car, they shouldn't be worried that they have an unqualified foreigner operating an 80,000-pound big rig that could endanger their lives."

VIDEOS: Why you're not seeing much of the Cackler on TV

Walt has returned. Except for reports on Hurricane Milton, not much news from the Excited States of America penetrated the World's Longest Totally Undefended Border (TM). The reason for that is that the American fake news networks were preoccupied with Milton, and using it as an excuse to not cover the basement campaign of Hock Ptui. Victor Davis Hanson explains why the Cackler is in hiding and the potential effect on the Day of Reckoning, now just 3 1/2 weeks away.

A quick word on hurricane relief efforts. As the cost of fixing the damage caused by Hurricana Helene rose into the multi-billions of dollars, Alejandro Mayorkas, Director of the Department of Homeland Security, which is theoretically in charge of co-ordinating emergency response, said FEMA had enough money to get the job done, but not enough to cover the next big blow, which (too bad for Mayor Asskiss) was only days in the offing.

Where did all the money go? President Trump said FEMA stole a billion dollars to pass out to the millions of illegal immigrants which DHS let into the US of A on the Biden-Harris watch. See "Feds say there’s no money left to respond to hurricanes — after FEMA spent $1.4B on migrants" NY Post, 3/10/24.

Of course the lickspittle media jumped up in unison to deny the story and repeat Mr Mayorkas' flip-flop. See "Mayorkas says FEMA has no more disaster funds, but IG report says agency is sitting on billions" Fox Business, 7/10/24. Now they're saying not to worry because there's loads of money in the kitty after all. And hey, Taylor Swift, has pledged to donate $5 million to aid Milton survivors. So that's all right then.

As the storm receds, expect to see Air Force One and/or Air Force Two doing a flyover any minute now. If you see this picture of the Cackler managing the response from her throne in the air

please understand that it's a total fake, supposedly showing her being briefed on Hurricane Helene relief effors. Wrote DJT: "Another FAKE and STAGED photo from someone who has no clue what she is doing. You have to plug the cord into the phone for it to work!" And please know that it took Ed. over half an hour to locate and download this photo on Google. They're all in this together.

This just in from the Daily Mail (UK): "Kamala Harris accused of being 'fed questions' in bizarre Hurricane Milton briefing moment"

Walt's question: Who's feeding her the lines. Could it be the Prez himself?

VIDEO: Undefended border with Canada threatens both countries

For many months now, Walt has been reporting on the problems at the World's Longest Undefended Border (TM), particularly at St-Bernard-de-Lacolle QC, where 10s of 1000s of "refugees" from the USA (!) have crossed illegally into the Great No-longer-white North following Canuck Prime Minister Trudeau's infamous tweet in which he offered asylum to anyone, anyone fleeing the horros of Trump's Amerika. No questions asked. Welcome to Canuckistan. See "True stories from the US-Canada border", WWW 11/2/17 and "Canucks ask US Homeland Security to help turn back border jumpers", WWW 23/10/17.

Those stories have focused on the problems caused by the lack of border controls on the Canadian side. A particularly egregious example is the true story of Abdullahi Hashi Farah, a follower of the Prophet Mohammed who came to the USA as a refugee only to commit numerous criminal acts. American authorities would like to arrest and (maybe) deport him, so he did the logical thing and refugeed right quick to Canada, where he was arrested and released three times because he was honest enough to declare that he was in trouble in the USA. See "Somali gangsta enters Canada illegally, allowed to stay 'because he was honest'", WWW 14/12/18, includes video.

But the ever-increasing tide of terrorists and criminals runs in both directions, and at least some American lawmakers have started to notice. Last week, the incoming chair of the House Homeland Security Oversight and Management Efficiency Subcommittee, Rep. Lou Correa (D-CA), said that President Trump's focus on the US-Mexico border is leaving unaddressed threats from America's northern border. In an interview with CTV's Richard Madan, Mr Correa said that, because personnel and resources are being diverted to the southern border, the northern border is "totally wide open". Here's the report from CTV News.

"Big swaths of area between Canada and the U.S. -- nobody watching," said Mr Correa. "A lot of negative things go in and out: drug trade, arms trade, things that happen on the northern border that nobody's watching. And it's happening now." He said he had been warned by a US border agent that the Canadians were being complacent, worrying only about the bogus refugee claimants coming into their country from the the USA.

In its "Northern Border Strategy", the Department of Homeland Security said the biggest threat from Canada was the illicit drug trade. It also warned of terror threats "from homegrown violent extremists [Not Islamists, surely! Ed.] in Canada who are not included in the American government's consolidated terrorist watch list and could therefore enter the United States legally at Northern Border ports of entry...without suspicion."

Rep. Correa's accusations aren't new. At a hearing of the same committe back in November of 2017, Rep. John Katko (R-NY) warned that several facilities on the American side of the border, including crossings at Niagara Falls NY and Champlain NY, have been "woefully neglected". A sign at one border crossing shows there are "200 vacancies" for Border Patrol agents at the Canadian border.

For want of adequate manpower to do proper inspections and vetting, Islamic terrorists and criminals of all religions can slip the great undefended border without detection. "We have to recognize the northern border is a threat just like the southern border," he said, "and I would argue that because of lack of attention it is more than a threat."

Canuck Liberals stew in Trudeau's pro-refugee juice, beg USA to amend Safe Third Country Agreement

This is almost too good to be true, but it is true! You may remember -- Canadians certainly do -- Prime Minister Just In Trudeau's tweet, following the inauguration of President Trump, inviting any and all "refugees", asylum-seekers and undesirable turned away by the US of A to head for the Great No-longer-white North, where the welcome mat would be out for them, along with food, houses, cars etc, courtesy of generous Canadian taxpayers. Here's what Mr Socks said.

Imagine the Boy Wonder's surprise when 10s of 1000s of bogus refugee claimants and other third world scum took him at his word! As reported in "Canuck Conservatives demand Liberals stop border jumpers", WWW 24/4/18, and confirmed yesterday by CTV News, some 26,000 immigrant wannabes have crossed the undefended border "irregularly" (that's Govspeak for "illegally") in the past year, including 5000 in April alone.

This weekend, Stéphane Handfield, a prominent lawyer and member of the refugee industry from Québec, yesterday joined his province's Liberal government in calling on the federal Liberals to do something! He penned an open letter calling for the Safe Third Country Agreement to be put on hold for three months while officials figure out next steps. The STCA is a pact between Canada and the USA which governs where people can make asylum claims on either side of the border.

As Walt told you in "Trudeau's plan to reform Canadian immigration system", WWW 23/4/18, turning away 1000s of potential Liberal voters is not an option for the Trudeau government, which faces a potential revolt even in its own ranks. Even yesterday, Canada's Minister for Refugees and Immigration [really!], Ahmed Hussen [really!], himself a refugee from Somalia [really!], insisted that there are as yet no "formal negotiations" to amend the STCA.

Even as he spoke to the Canuck meeja, a spokesthingy for the US Department of Homeland Security said in an e-mail, "DHS is currently reviewing the proposal made by Canada to amend the Safe Third Country Agreement, but we have no decision to announce at this time."

The statement went on to say that border patrol agencies on both sides of the border collaborate on security efforts and that elements of the US government -- including Department of Homeland Security and the State Department -- are working closely with the government of Canada "to understand the evolving flow of northbound asylum seekers, including through joint CBP-CBSA analysis and collaboration by ICE and the State Department at U.S. embassies and consulates overseas."

Neither the American nor Canadian governments aqre taking seriously what appears to me to be a sensible proposal from the Conservative opposition. As it stands, the STCA requires asylum-seekers to make their claim in the first safe country they arrive in, unless they qualify for an exception spelled out in the agreement. It applies only to claimants trying to enter at official land border crossings, by train or at airports, which is why some are making the trek into Canada outside official crossing points.

Solution: Designate the entire border as an official crossing, so that border-jumpers caught sneaking through the brush can be arrested and immediately dumped back on the side from whence they came. That would benefit not just Canada but the Paranoid States of America too. Sadly, simple sensible solutions are not the kind which bureaucrats embrace easily or with joy. Expect the dithering to continue... along with the the flow of undesirable illegal aliens.

Canucks ask US Homeland Security to help turn back border jumpers

Canada's state broadcaster, the CBC, released a funny story yesterday, in the middle of a sleepy afternoon when no-one was paying attention. Regular readers of WWW may recall that the Canuck government has been affecting all summer long to be unconcerned about the 1000s of "refugees", asylum-seekers and other would-be immigrants who are crossing the world's longest undefended border to get into Canada's much-too-generous welfare programmes.

Most of the dark-complected illegal migrants being welcomed by the Mounties at an "unofficial" border crossing near Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle QC are Haïtians and Africans. How did they get to that hole in the fence? Why, they came through the USA! Many of them, in fact, had lived in the Land of the Free for years before heading for the Land of the Free Lunch, in response to Justin "Junior" Trudeau's open invitation broadcast to a waiting world in response to President Trump's hint that the parasites had worn out their welcome in the USA.

As the number of illegals crossing from the USA into Canada keeps growing and growing, M Trudeau's Liberal government, facing a rising anti-immigrant backlash, keeps trotting out cabinet ministers and MPs to assure the angry Canadian public that Action is Being Taken and Everything is Under Control. But it's not Junior Himself who has to face the wrath of the people, nor is it Ahmed Hussen, the Somali-born Minister of Immigration and Refugees (sic). Noooo. It's usually poor old Ralph Goodale, the mild-mannered veteran who has the misfortune to be Minister of Public Secure and Civil Protection, which I guess means that the illegals are indeed a threat to the Canadian public, although of course Mr Goodale can't say that because of M-103. (Canucks will know what I mean.)

Poor old Ralph was again pushed into the spotlight -- like a deer transfixed in the headlights of an oncoming car -- on Sunday when he was interviewed by CBC News. He revealed that he had been having discussions with his American counterpart, Elaine Duke, the Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, with a view to... errr... getting her to do something, anything, on the US side of the border to help stem the tide of illegal migrants.

Mr Goodale said he asked Ms Duke to consider alerting Canadian authorities when the US is about to make policy decisions that would affect the border, in order to give agencies such as border services time to prepare. He also warned her to keep a "wary eye" on the travel visas it issues to the United States. He explained that Canadian officials have identified trends where documents issued from "certain US embassies and consulates" are being misused. "We have asked them to go back upstream and examine the pattern of these travel documents being issued," he said, "and how come the people to whom they were issued appear to have had no intention of staying in the United States, but were simply using the documents as vehicles to get into the United States and then make a beeline for the Canadian border."

Not wanting to appear racist or Islamophobic, Mr Goodale declined to identify diplomatic missions that have been problematic, but CBC News is reporting today that one place where a lot of people seem to be getting visas to visit the USA with the intention of heading to Canada is... wait for it... Nigeria.

Mr Goodale and Ms Duke have apparently discussed other "joint steps to take to address illegal migration across their shared border." For instance, the Canucks have suggested, the Americans could put up some signs on their side of the border "with messages to dissuade those seeking asylum in Canada." Yeah, that'll do it, for sure! Can't you just imagine a US Border Patrol officer yelling at a busload of Africans, "Don't make me point at the sign again!"? Said Mr Goodale, "They're examining what they can do to communicate."

So, dear Canadian readers, you mustn't worry. Action is Being Taken. Everything is Under Control. Diversity is Canada's Strength! Vote Liberal!

Should criminal refugees and illegal aliens be identified as such?

Following reports in the Canadian media (and here on WWW!) that a Syrian "refugee" was arrested in Edmonton AB for sexual assaults on six teenaged girls, the usual suspects have started pissing and moaning that it's not fair to identify, as such, "refugees" and asylum-seekers charged with criminal acts.

CBC News quotes one Mohamed Huque, the totally unbiased executive director of the Islamic Family and Social Services Association, as saying that identifying miscreants who claim refugee status will "inflame a segment of our population who already harbour a bias, a discrimination or unfair views towards newcomers." That's his polite way of calling people who don't welcome Muslim invaders -- pardon, "newcomers" -- "racists".

The effect, of course, would be to "embolden" people like Alexandre Bissonnette, now the only suspect in the attack on a mosque in Québec City a couple of weeks ago. See "What REALLY happened at Québec City???", WWW 5/2/17 (includes great video with Gavin McInnes!) Mr Huque said the case is already being used "to incite fear of new immigrants, and has cast a negative light on thousands of refugees."

Obviously the best way to keep stories about the criminality of refugees -- Syrians, Muslims or "other" -- from being used to inflame passions against these poor seekers after freedom and a better life is not to ask them to refrain from abusing the hospitality of the host nations, but... wait for it... to keep such stories from being published. Or, at least, to stop identifying the perps as Muslims or Syrians or refugees or asylum-seekers or anything that would distinguish them from law-abiding white Christians.

Will Canada's government start censoring the lamestream media? Maybe, maybe not. Will the LMS start censoring themselves? They already do! The CBC, guilty guilty guilty of allowing comments on the Québec mosque story (only after the Mohamed became just a "witness") has kept closed the comments box on the West Edmonton Mall story and the terribly offended reaction of Mr Huque and the SJWs.

In the USA, by contrast, the new administration will start publishing weekly lists of crimes committed by illegal aliens. A new Office for Victims of Crimes Committed by Removable Aliens will provide quarterly reports studying the effects of the victimization by criminal aliens present in the United States, and will publish quarterly reports on the immigration status of all prisoners inside the country. So says President Trump's "Executive Order: Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States", issued on 25 January 2017.

During his election campaign, President Trump pointed out that illegal immigrants and "other non-citizens" in US prisons and jails had around 25,000 homicide arrests to their names (United States Government Accountability Office, March 2011). He also referred to the fact that there are at least two million convicted criminal aliens now inside the country, and that since 2013 alone, the Obama Administration had allowed 300,000 criminal aliens to return back into U.S. communities.

The executive order was issued in the interest of enhanced national security. Mr Trump pointed out, during the campaign, that between 9/11 and the end of 2014, at least 380 foreign-born individuals were convicted in terror cases inside the United States. (U.S. Senate Immigration Subcommittee, June 22, 2016).

The measures in the Executive Order should therefore have come as no surprise to anyone who had bothered to read Mr Trump's election promises. Contrary to what is now being asserted by the legal beagles hired by Democratic state governments to challenge the Oder, it is merely forcing the Department of Homeland Security to "ensure the faithful execution of the immigration laws of the United States, including the INA, against all removable aliens, consistent with Article II, Section 3 of the United States Constitution and section 3331 of title 5, United States Code," and "make use of all available systems and resources to ensure the efficient and faithful execution of the immigration laws of the United States."

In other words, President Trump's Executive Order does not in fact create any new laws, and merely insists that existing laws be enforced. Surely that's not asking too much of the courts... is it?

Footnote: In response to the Edmonton cops' request for more information about the West Edmonton Mall assaults, one witness and one additional victim of the Syrian refugee pervert have come forward. Walt will bring you further news of the Syrian refugee pervert as and when it happens. Censorship be damned!

War endangers our freedoms! (Didn't you know?)

I can hardly wait to see Michael Moore's latest opus, Where to Invade Next, his first film in six years. Here's the trailer.

Where to Invade Next received much critical acclaim at TIFF and other film festivals, and is being much talked up by the lamestream media for being "funny" and not as dark and disturbing as his best earlier works. That got me thinking again about Fahrenheit 9/11, recommended here a few days ago in a message to Republican voters who might have been thinking about supporting JEB! in the primaries.

One of the main themes of Fahrenheit 9/11 is the way in which Dubya and his war-hawk cronies engineered the "War on Terror" and the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan to gain more and more power over the American people through the Patriot Act, Homeland Security and so on. The result is that now, more than ever before, the Paranoid States of America is a police state!

Which brings us to Democracy in America, by Alexis-Charles-Henri Clérel de Tocqueville, a French political thinker and historian. De La Démocratie en Amérique is a classic text, published in two volumes, the first in 1835 and the second in 1840, in which M de Tocqueville examines the democratic revolution that he believed had been occurring in Europe and then America over the preceding seven hundred years. He had something to say about the relationship between war and freedom. Here's a quote from a 1945 translation.

No protracted war can fail to endanger the freedom of a democratic country.... War does not always give over democratic communities to military government, but it must invariably and immeasurably increase the powers of civil government; it must also compulsorily concentrate the direction of all men and the management of all t hings in the hands of the administration. If it does not lead to despotism by sudden violence, it prepares men for it more gently by their habits. All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and the shortest means to accomplish it.

I found that quote in The Ordeal of Total War, by Gordon Wright (Harper & Row, 1968). Here's Mr. Wright's commentary.

Tocqueville's dictum, appropriate enough in his own day, is even more applicable in the twentieth century. When nations must mobilize their total resources for a long struggle, the normal tensions between authority and liberty are intensified, and the trend toward dictatorship affects even the most democratic of nations. Where parliaments survive, their usual functions are sharply restricted; decision-making becomes increasingly concentrated in the hands of a small executive group, or even in those of one man.

That was in 1968, before Americans learned the truth about Vietnam, before Nixon, before the Clintons and the Bushes. If Mr. Wright is still alive, he could justly say, "Don't say you weren't warned." Although it seems he doesn't stress the point in Where to Invade Next, Michael Moore can say the same thing.

Ralph Nader asks: What's happening to Canada?!

Thanks and a tip o' the tuque to Agent 34, who has passed along Ralph Nader's open letter to Canada's Dear Leader Steve Harper, expressing concern about what he (quoting the Globe and Mail) calls Harper's "Secret Policeman Bill".

Just like America's paranoid "Homeland Security Act", Bill C-51 threatens Canadians' civil liberties for the sake of protecting them from the threats of ISIS et al., which wouldn't even be a problem but for Mr. Harpoon's rabid Zionism and pointless meddling in the Muslim civil war in the Middle East.

In his weekly piece on CBC's The National, Rex Murphy warned that the "terror legislation" -- a phrase that cuts two ways -- sits at the intersection of public safety and individual liberty. He said that any proposal to protect the citizenry by abbreviating the liberties of the same citizenry must be examined as to its ultimate necessity, and put to the fullest parliamentary, media and democratic testing. Amen.

Now comes Ralph Nader -- long-time enemy of the abuses of power in the USA -- to ask why Canada is following his country down the Bush-Clinton-Obama road to a police state. Here are excerpts from "What's happening to Canada? Open letter from Ralph Nader to Prime Minister Stephen Harper"

Many Americans love Canada and the specific benefits that have come to our country from our northern neighbor's many achievements. Unfortunately, your latest proposed legislation -- the new anti-terrorism act -- is being described by leading Canadian civil liberties scholars as hazardous to Canadian democracy.

You are quoted as saying that "jihadi terrorism is one of the most dangerous enemies our world has ever faced" as a predicate for your gross over-reaction that "violent jihadism seeks to destroy" Canadian "rights." Really? Pray tell, which rights rooted in Canadian law are "jihadis" fighting in the Middle East to obliterate? You talk like George W. Bush.

How does "jihadism" match up with the lives of tens of millions of innocent civilians, destroyed since 1900 by state terrorism -- west and east, north and south -- or the continuing efforts seeking to seize or occupy territory?

What has all this post-9/11 loss of American life plus injuries and sickness, in addition to trillions of American tax dollars, accomplished? Has it led to the stability of those nations invaded or attacked by the U.S. and its reluctant western "allies?" Just the opposite, the colossal blowback evidenced by the metastasis of al-Qaeda's offshoots and similar new groups like the self-styled Islamic state are now proliferating in and threatening over a dozen countries.

Have you digested what is happening in Iraq and why Prime Minister Jean Chrétien said no to Washington? Or now chaotic Libya, which like Iraq never had any presence of Al-Qaeda before the U.S.'s destabilizing military attacks?

Canadians might be most concerned about your increased dictatorial policies and practices, as well as this bill's provision for secret law and courts in the name of fighting terrorism -- too vaguely defined. Study what comparable practices have done to the United States -- a course that you seem to be mimicking, including the militarization of police forces.

You may think that Canadians will fall prey to a politics of fear before an election. But you may be misreading the extent to which Canadians will allow the attachment of their Maple Leaf to the aggressive talons of a hijacked American Eagle.

Canada could be a model for independence against the backdrop of bankrupt American military adventures steeped in big business profits…a model that might help both nations restore their better angels.

The connection between the Marathon Bombing, the Reichstag Fire... and this man

Reports today are that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, "Suspect No. 2" in the Boston Marathon bombing, may never be able to tell us why he did it, and who else was involved. He is in a Boston hospital in "serious condition" from wounds suffered when the Law opened fire on the pleasure boat in which he was hiding. He might die before being able to answer questions. Just like Lee Harvey Oswald.

Which brings me to the topic of the Reichstag Fire. For those who don't remember, the Reichstag was the name for the German parliament and the building which housed it. By early 1933, Adolf Hitler had risen to the position of Chancellor -- equivalent to prime minister -- of the German republic. But the ageing Paul von Hindenburg, the President, stood between Hitler and supreme power.

On 27 February 1933 the Reichstag suddenly and mysteriously caught fire. The police noticed a young man named Marinus van der Lubbe warming his hands at the scene. Herr van der Lubbe was, in today's PC phrase, "intellectually challenged". After a little "enhanced interrogation" by the Gestapo, he confessed to starting the fire. However he denied that he was part of any conspiracy.

Van der Lubbe's denial notwithstanding, Hitler claimed the event was part and proof of a Communist conspiracy, and ordered that all leaders of Germany's Communist party "be hanged that very night." President Hindenburg countermanded that order, but did agree that Hitler should take "dictatorial powers" immediately.

Less than a month later, the Reichstag (meeting in temporary quarters, presumably) passed the Enabling Bill, which banned the Communist and Social Democractic parties from contesting part in future election campaigns.

In April, Nazis were put in charge of all local government in the provinces. In May, trade unions were abolished, their funds taken and their leaders put in prison. In July, a law was passed making the Nazi Party the only legal political party in Germany.

Thus "Reichstag Fire" became a metaphor for an event staged to provoke or legitimize a seizure of power. Or more power.

Two-thirds of a century after the Reichstag Fire came the atrocity of 9/11. America abounds in conspiracy theories, one of the most enduring of which is the claim that 9/11 was staged (and then covered up) by Dubya's government to strengthen its grip on power and take away the freedoms of the American people.

Walt thinks that theory is bullshit. But... there can be no doubt that, in the aftermath of 9/11, the freedom of Americans (and Brits and Canadians and Aussies and so on) has been drastically curtailed. The USA now has the "protection" of the Department of Homeland Security, for instance.

How many terrorists have they caught? And how many harmless citizens have been investigated and/or detained and interrogated for no other reason than (again for instance) having an Arabic-sounding name?

And let's not forget the Transport Security Administration -- TSA -- the folks who like to look at your junk at the airport. How many people have been denied boarding an American aircraft because they "look like the kind of person who would do something like that"?

Speaking of which... Whatever happened to the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution?

That's the one which supposedly guarantees Americans freedom from "unreasonable searches and seizures". Walt wonders how many residents of Watertown MA asked the cops who knocked on their doors to produce a warrant.

But that's the way it is, nowadays, in the Land of the Free and Home of the Fearful. Sure, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. But is it really necessary for our governments to make us prisoners in our own countries, just because of the cowardly acts of a couple of misfits who (for all we know) may indeed have been acting on their own?

Fourth Amendment Footnote: To see what happens to someone who stands on his rights, read the true story of Aaron Tobey, who wrote an abbreviated version of the Fourth Amendment on his body and stripped to his shorts at a Richmond VA airport security screening area.

Walt's solution to the threat of terrorism

Walt would like to see the latest annual report of the Department of Homeland Security. (It may be available online somewhere, but Ed. is too lazy to look. Or maybe not. Maybe it's "classified", or even "top secret".) Walt would like to know how many terrorists -- imported or domestic -- they've apprehended in the last year. Walt would like to know how they spend billions of taxpayers' dollars and yet are unable to prevent incidents like the Boston Marathon bombings.

Here is my offer to the Department. For just a small fraction of one year's allocation -- let's say 10% -- I will show you how to drastically reduce the likelihood of further attacks on America and Americans.

Later...
Ed. tells me I should present my plan for free, for the common good, and trust the Prez to compensate me once the benefit of my foolproof strategy is realized. OK then...

What America should do, to get the Islamic extremists off our backs, is leave them alone.

Follow Ron Paul's advice* and put an end to our foreign adventurism and entanglements. Bring the troops home. All of them. Let the USA get out of the Middle East and the ROTW entirely. Let the Shites and Sunnies and Wasabis fight each other, if they get off on that kind of thing, and good luck to them.

Do I hear objections? Yes, you wrapped in the Stars and Stripes... "Americans can't run from a fight!" I hear you bray. My dear patriot, Walt is not talking about running from a fight. Walt is talking about running to a fight!

If America is attacked, certainly she must defend herself. But there has been no attack on the landmass of the USA in nearly 200 years. [Don't mention the War of 1812! Ed.] It's the bellicose United States that keeps invading such threats -- to "world peace", not America directly -- as Grenada, Cuba, Mexico, the Philippines, Libya [That's enough. We get it. Ed.]

Another cavil? "What about the security of our [sic] oil supply?", asks the gentleman from Texas. "What if there isn't enough gas for my Hummer?"

Dear guzzler, do you really believe that Iran or Iraq or Libya, if left to themselves, would refuse to sell any more oil to their biggest customer? And even if they did, there are other sources. Canada, for instance, has all kinds of oil it would be happy to ship south if the econazis would cease their sky-is-falling squawking about the Keystone pipeline. Getting oil is never going to be a problem for the USA. (Lifetime pct .980.)

So there you have it, gentle readers. Leave them alone and they'll stay home. And Americans can stop living in fear. You're welcome.

Cheezit! the cops!

For months now, CBC Radio has been airing items about "alleged" corruption in the Niagara (Canada) Regional Police Department. There have been stories of drug abuse and drug smuggling across the bridges connecting Ontario with those terrible border towns on the New York side of the Niagara River. But for some reason most of the lamestream media have downplayed or outright ignored the story. Until today.

Today Niagara's finest acknowledged, at last, that yes, there has been an investigation. And yes, some current and past members of the force are involved. Charges have been laid, not just under the toothless Police Act, but under the Criminal Code.

Was it the problem with "substances" that just couldn't be hushed up any more? Well, errr, you might say that. The serious crime which led to today's charges was... wait for it... cheese smuggling.

That's right! Seems its not just Packers fans who are cheeseheads. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Cheese Squads of the US Department of Homeland Security and the Canada Border Services Ehgency, Police Constable Scott Heron, 39, former Niagara Regional police officer Casey Langelaan, 48, and Fort Erie resident Bernie Pollino, 44, were arrested and "charged in regard to a large-scale smuggling scheme to distribute cheese products and other food items into Canada," according to a statement issued by the regional police.

According to the news release, over $200,000 worth of cheese and other products were purchased and distributed to pizzerias and other low joints for an estimated profit of more than $165,000. Charges laid against include conspiracy to commit the indictable offence of smuggling goods under the Criminal Code and Customs Act, plus offences of breach of trust; making false or deceptive statements; evasion of duties; and acquiring, keeping, and/or disposing of illegally imported goods. Oh yes, and smuggling.

The Niagara Regional Police are also investigating some of their officers with respect to steroid use and possible trafficking in performance-enhancing drugs, but it was the cheese that really took the copcake. (Geddit?)

Agent 3 will keep us posted on whether any Ontario judge will break with the tradition of acquitting any officer charged with any offence because, after all, it wouldn't do to shake the public's confidence in the police and so-called justice system. Stay tuned.
