I used to be a frequent flyer, and I'm not just talking North America, but Europe, Asia and even the Dark Continent. Saw a lot of weird stuff, but never (thanks be to God) anything like this.
According to Aerotime News, this happened yesterday afternoon aboard a Boeing 737-800 operated by Transavia (the discount airline of Air France-KLM) as flight TO4118 from Paris Orly to Tunis Carthage International Airport.
Somewhere over Sardinia, the big guy with the beard, a Tunisian and a devout follower of the Prophet Mohammed, decided he wanted to go into the aisle of the aircraft to say his prayers. The cabin crew took a dim view of this -- perhaps luncheon was being served -- and wrestled the man, heard shouting "Allahu akbar!" to the deck.
You can also hear passengers shouoting, perhaps responding to the man's cries that he was Muslim like them and that they should help him! Aerotime News quotes local news outlet France Bleu as saying the cabin crew thought the man was heading for the cockpit and they'd better do something before there was an MH370-type incident.
After the man was subdued, the plane was diverted to the Nice-Côte d’Azur airport, where it landed safely. Although he fought furiously, again shouting "Allahu akbar", the passenger was arrested by the gendarmes and transported (at no extra charge) to the local hoosegow. However, "after medical examination, his health condition led to lifting custody in the prospect of forced hospitalization in a psychiatric facility," according to the city prosecutor.
The rest of the passengers spent the night in Nice before continuing their trip this morning. [Nice! Ed.]

Your Islamic terrorists today - latest attacks
Islamic terrorism is now everyday news. Really. Just scroll through the news headlines and I guarantee you, you'll find at least one "incident", somewhere in the world, every day. To be more than a below-the-fold news item, the attack must (a) occur in the USA, the UK or Canada or (b) have a double-digit number of victims.
Earlier this week, in what French Minister of the Interior Gérard Collomb called an "attempted attack" [sic] a car deliberately hit a police van before bursting into flames on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in central Paris. The driver, who was on a security watchlist, died in the incident. Police found a Kalashnikov rifle, handguns and gas bottles in the car. French police have refused to disclose the identity, ethnicity or religion of the attacker (although they know full well who he was), saying only that he was a resident of a Paris suburb. In some Paris suburbs, Muslim immigrants from North Africa make up a majority of the population. Importance to the lamestream media: none (nobody dead or injured other than the attacker).
On June 20th, a suspect was "neutralized" (= shot dead) at the central railway station in Brussels, Belgium, after a failed bombing that Belgian authorities called a terrorist attack. Inspector Hercules Poirot said a small explosion went off in the transportation hub around 2030 local time. Soldiers on patrol at the station shot the man dead as he ran toward them shouting, "Allahu Akbar!" Again, no-one other than the attacker was killed or injured. The Belgian Prosecutor's Office initially declined to identify him or say if he was known to authorities, but other sources said he was Oussama Zariouh, a Moroccan. Importance to the lamestream media: none (no victims + where's Belgium?)
Today, a huge suicide car bomb exploded outside a bank in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, targeting Afghan troops and government employees waiting to collect their salaries ahead of a major Muslim holiday. At least 29 Muslims, mostly civilians, were killed by other Muslims, probably Taliban. Another 60 (and counting) were wounded. Importance to the lamestream media: medium (lots of casualties but no Westerners + no-one cares about Afghanistan)
Now we come to the big news...
Yesterday, around 0945 EDT, in Flint MI, a crazed attacker yelling... wait for it... "Allahu akbar!" attacked a policeman, Lieutenant Jeff Neville, stabbing him in the neck with a foot-long knife. Lt. Neville is in serious condition in hospital, but expected to recover. An FBI spokesthingy identified the perp as Amor Ftouhi, a resident of Montréal, Canada. Mr Ftouhi, who was subdued and taken into custody, crossed into the USA legally at Lake Champlain NY on June 16th. Why he went to Flint is unknown. The FBI guy told the press, "He made a statement something to the effect of, 'You have killed people in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan and we are all going to die.'"
At a media scrum in Ottawa yesterday afternoon, Canadian Public Security Minister Ralph Goodale condemned the "heinous and cowardly attack" and said the RCMP are co-operating with the FBI, which is leading the investigation. Minister Wiggum had nothing to say about Mr Ftouhi's citizenship, ethnicity, religion or his status in Canada, but his FB page says he's originally from Tunisia.
Importance to lamestream media: medium (no-one killed but hey, a Merkan was attacked + possible to blame Canada's lax immigration and security "systems")

Nice massacre: UPDATED with comment from Rex Murphy
At least 84 people have been killed in city of Nice, on the French Riviera, after an armed man drove a tractor-trailer for well over a mile at full speed through a crowd who had gathered to watch the Bastille Day fireworks over the seafront. The attack on France’s national day came eight months after 130 people were killed in coordinated attacks on a stadium, bars and a rock concert at the Bataclan venue in Paris. In January of 2015 another dozen people were killed in the Charlie Hebdo attacks. That makes three major terrorist attacks in 18 months, with 226 killed, and counting....
By whom and for what? In a rare moment of comprehension, President François Hollande said the Nice killings on Thursday night appeared to be a terrorist attack. But, he and the lamestream media rushed to say, it was too early to speculate on the motivation, identity or possible affiliation of an attacker. That was last night. This morning, in the cold light of dawn, French security forces revealed that the driver of the monster truck was Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, an immigrant from Tunisia.
Tunisia is a former French colony on the Mediterranean coast of Africa. There were two massacres of innocent people, mostly tourists, in Tunisia last year. On 26 June 2015, 38 people were killed when an armed gunman attacked a hotel in Sousse. Three months earlier, 22 more were killed in an attack at the Bardo National Museum. The attackers were Islamic extremists, acting on the commands of the Holy Qu'ran to kill infidels wherever they might be found.
M Bouhlel was an Arab and a follower of the Prophet. He is said to have been "known to police", but was not on any security watchlist. No-one heard his last words, amidst the screams of the dying, and the bangs of the fireworks and gunfire, but Walt wouldn't be surprised if his last moments sounded like this!

Canada re-ups for another year of the Obama war
This just in from the second-coldest capital city in the world. Although Americans might wish otherwise, Canadian Prime Minister, Steve "Stephen" Harper has taken note of the fact that the Prez still has nearly two years of his second term left. Two years in which, if Mr. Harper keeps tugging his forelock tugged and his lips pursed over the presidential nether regions, Mr. Obama might change his mind about blocking the Keystone XL pipeline.
Not only that, but the Dear Leader Himself faces an election sometime between now and the middle of October. Mr. Harpoon would dearly love to make it a four-peat, and protecting the Great Formerly-white North from the evil Islamic extremists seems to be playing well with the frost-backed folk in Otter Haunch SK.
Steve's course was therefore clear. In spite of the fact that "ISIL" (as he calls it, because that's what Obama calls it) has already been "degraded" -- stopped in its tracks -- Mr. Harper has bravely volunteered his country's troops and treasure for another year fighting Obama's war, until the spring of 2016. And, yes, it's now officially a combat mission. (Body count so far: 1 killed in Iraq, 2 at home, total 3.)
One more thing... Canadian forces will now pursue the jihadis into Syria. Walt wonders if Mr. Harper will now change the official designation of the enemy to "ISIS". Walt also wonders if Steve has thought through the implications of following the Islamists wherever they go. Since the beginning of the year, they have extended the Muslim civil war into Libya, Tunisia and Yemen. Will "our" operations expand along with theirs?
Whether the Canadian government (S. Harper, Prop.) has thought about anything other than the political benefits of standing shoulder to shoulder with Obama is doubtful. Mr. Harper, like one of his heroes, Margaret Thatcher, is not one for turning.
All that remains now is to make sure that the brave Canadian soldiers and airmen (and/or airwomen -- whatever the term is) understand the mission. That is the point, Walt reckons, of this brilliant editorial cartoon by Brian Gable in today's Globe and Mail.
INTERESTING FOOTNOTE - JUST RECEIVED from CBC News. Iraq's attempt to retake the city of Tikrit from ISIS has run into a major problem. More than 80% of the ground forces involved on the government side are Shia militias. Many say they won't keep fighting if the US-led coalition (the one Harper is happy to be a part of) is allowed to conduct airstrikes. According to the Corp, the US has poor relations with the militia groups, many of whom once battled the previous American occupation of Iraq. Looks like the good guys (see above) don't want "our" help. How about that, eh!

The Arabs are revolting
Madness in the Maghreb! First Tunisia, whence refugees are even now making their way to Canada, slowed down somewhat by the weight of the gold bars in their luggage.
Then disturbances in Yemen and Algeria. And now Egypt. As I write, an excited radio commentator is describing riots in Cairo as Egypt's "Berlin moment". Walt doesn't think so.
Even if regime change does come to Egypt and the other countries of north Africa, don't expect a sudden outbreak of democracy, prosperity and peace. The people of those states are Arabs. Democracy and pluralism (political or religious) are not part of their history and culture. In the Arab societies, absolutism and authoritarianism are accepted as the norm.
Some of the countries may be officially secular but in practice they are dominated by Islam. The Islamic militants, such as Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, aren't going to go away. Attacks on tourists will continue, no matter who's in charge. Likewise the persecution and martyrdom of Christians.
So before we all rush to church to give thanks for the long-overdue civilization of the Arab world, let's take a moment for a large reality check. Tune in again in a year's time and see whether change has been for better or worse.
Footnote: Reports are that the social media are being used to organize demonstrations and get the news out to the rest of the world. It seems the protesters are making maximum use of Fezbook.
