Sweden's "progressives" embrace remigration, get re-elected

Earlier this month we posted the good news of the stunning victory of Alternativ für Deutschland in recent elections in the east German state of Saxony-Anhalt. We predicted a bright future for parties of the right, not just in Germany but in Europe as a hole. [Pun intended. Ed.]

We should have added... except for Sweden of course. It is well known that Swedish voters, wishing to uphold Sweden's reputation as a liberal society, regularly re-elect governments of the leftish persuasion, usually the Social Democrats. (Swedish SocDems should not be confused with the American variety, who now control the Dimocratic Party and are not just loony but completely loony.)

In the national elections just concluded, something amazing happened! Popular backlash against the crime wave and other social problems caused by the presence in Sweden of hordes of darker-skinned people (most of them followers of the Prophet) forced the Swedish left to do a 180 on immigration. And guess what? Swedish voters went for it!

To the surprise of even its own members, the "Red-Green" opposition alliance and its liberal sidekicks threw out the centre-right Moderate Party, its nationalist Sweden Democrat allies, and other partners in the "Tidö" bloc, and returned the "reformed" Social Democrats to power.

The top issue in the election was immigration was a top issue, with both the SocDems and the Tido bloc united (to hear them tell it) in opposition to mass immigration and ethnic minority enclaves, aka "no-go zones". Voters of immigrant background overwhelmingly rejected the right, but if "old stock" Swedes had suported the Tido parties it wouldn't have matter. But -- let us be honest -- the white people leaned the wrong way and took another stab at committing cultural suicide.

Of course it's just possible that the Red-Green coalition may keep its promises. [Wut? Ed.] And it's noteworthy that the Social Democrats, Moderates, and Sweden Democrats have reached a consensus, particularly on returning unsuccessful asylum claimants to their countries of origin and deporting foreign criminals more effectively.

If the government and opposition really do co-operate to do clamp down on further nass immigration of unassimilable minorities, Sweden may yet remain alongside Denmark (see "Featured Post", at right) among the countries with the toughest policies on migration, asylum and integration. Mind you, it's rather like locking the doors to the coop after the chickens have come home to roost, but Swedes can still hope.

VIDEO: Graham Greene, RIP

Walt notes with sadness the passing of Graham Greene, the actor who gained fame (and an Academy Award nomination) for his performance as real-life Lakota Sioux medicine man Kicking Bird (Ziŋtká Nagwáka) in Dances With Wolves.

It was a natural role for Mr. Greene who was not a Pretendian, but a real Indian, and I don't think he would mind us using that term, rather than the politically correct "First Nations".

He was born in 1952 on the Six Nations Reserve at Oshweken ON. He fell into acting while working as a recording engineer, after a friend persuaded him to read his script. He started on stage, performing in Canadian and English productions in the 1970s, before making his screen debut in 1979 in an episode of the Canadian drama The Great Detective. His first film role was in the 1983 biopic Running Brave.

After Dances With Wolves (1980), Mr. Greene's Hollywood career included roles in Thunderheart (1992), Maverick (1994), Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), The Green Mile (1999) and The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009).

Most of our readers will remember at least two of those, but not as many will remember him (as we do) for his occasional appearances on The Red Green Show in the role of Edgar K.B. Montrose, the explosives expert. Here's a clip -- you'll have to click on the YouTube link to see it -- which is perfect for this little tribute. In it, Edgar Montrose gives his explosive opinions on Hollywood movies, from The Bridge On The River Kwai to Speed. The inside joke is his reference to Dances with Wolves.

Geddit now? That's Steve Smith, aka Red Green, in the middle, with his nephew Harold, played by Patrick McKenna, on Red's right.  After a long illness, Graham Greene died yesterday in hospital in Stratford ON, at age 73. RIP.

VIDEO: Specsavers scoops coveted Wally Award

Just because I'm not posting much this year doesn't mean I've given up. When it comes to my three favourite topics -- religion, hockey and politics [not necessarily in that order. Ed.], it just seems that we're in a lull, or a calm before the storm -- just waiting for something truly blogworth to happen.

The National Hockey League playoffs are upon us, and since the Montréal Canadiens are out, our Sports (read: Hockey) Editor, Poor Len Canayen, has gone fishing. See below?

As for religion, the crisis in the Roman Catholic Church continues. Just before Easter, it looked like God might finally intervene and do something about Jorge Bergoglio, the man who calls himself Pope Francis. But no. Pope Bergoglio is back to his usual routine of saying three woke things before breakfast, while we "Rad Trads" wait for something providential to happen.

Then there's politics. In Canada, Prime Minister Blackie McBlackface can't be dislodged since he has a deal, in writing, with the socialists to prop up his minority government no matter what. He could break wind in King Charles' face and they'd still support him. The deal expires in 2025, so forget about Canuckistan until then.

The Excited States of America is disintegrating in front of our eyes as well as behind our backs. Later today I'll review Colin Woodard's American Nations, a 2011 book containing some scary analysis of the state of the Disunion, along with a dirfe prediction.

All that Mr Woodard foresaw is happening, in spades. Cooked Joe Biden has announced that he will run for re-election, and that's fine with the New York Times, which opines that the US of A can get along without a fully functional president. Why? Because (although the NYT doesn't say so) the Deep State is running everything, for better or worse... mostly worse.

So... I've been watching a lot of non-news TV, wallowing in the wokeness and other stupidity, which is relieved occasionally by a clever commercial. I'm not going to wait until the end of the year to announce the winner of the coveted Wally Award for Excellence in TV Advertising. It goes to the agency who created this fine piece of work for Specsavers.

I do wonder if this was created by Canadians. Perhaps Steve Smith and Rick Green, the chief writers for the old Red Green TV show. Sure looks to me like Red and his nephew Harold! Well done, whoever you are.

Red Green on climate change: we're getting too comfortable

First it was "global warming". After a couple of unusually harsh winters, the Luddites, liberals and tree-huggers changed the the name of the game to "climate change". That way they were covered no matter whether the temperature went up or down. But ordinary people like Walt (and you, dear reader) remain unconvinced. So now it's been upgraded to a "CLIMATE EMERGENCY". So says the Liberal majority in Canada's House of Commons, in a vote taken in the last days of the current Parliament.

Last night the Canuck Minister of the Environment and Climate Change [sic] Catherine McKenna (aka "Climate Barbie") put forward a motion describing climate change as a "real and urgent crisis, driven by human activity." In their wisdom, the MPs noted how the "crisis" is impacting Canadians, and affirmed the need to pursue clean growth methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The House of Commons passed the motion declaring a national climate emergency, and supporting Canada’s commitment to meet the Paris Agreement emissions targets, by a vote of 186-63, with only Andrew Scheer's Conservatives mildly opposed.

"CLIMATE EMERGENCY! Lordy, lordy! The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" Walt doesn't believe it. Every day, when I log into Win10, Bill Gates shows me pictures from around the world of beautiful natural landscapes, untouched by fire, flood or other disasters attributable to "climate change". Here is a picture I took just a couple of weeks ago -- postcard quality, if I do say so myself -- of one such scene.

When Two Jack Lake dries up, or is covered in ice in July, or a bubbling brown pool of shit, then and only then can you talk to me about "climate emergency"!

On the same point, kind of... I just stumbled upon a short essay by my old buddy Steve Smith (aka Red Green), from Duct Tape Is Not Enough (Hatherleigh Press 2002). It's called "We're Getting Too Comfortable".

Every generation gets a little wimpier than the one before it. Our ancestors lived in wooden shacks without running water or electricity. We have central heat, central air, central vac...humidifiers, dehumidifiers, carbon filters, ozone detectors, smoke detectors, chest protectors, bomb deflectors and house inspectors.

We can push one button in our house and another in our car and as long as we have an attached garage, we will never leave an atmosphere of constant temperature, humidity, oxygen content, and clarity. It makes for an easy, comfortable life, but, over time, Mother Nature will devolve us to the point where we can't handle any change in our environment.

Sure it might be nice to never shiver or sweat -- but not if it means that every time you open the fridge or oven door, you have a massive cardiac infarction. So don't try so hard to make it so easy. Human beings survive a lot better when they have something to fight against.

VIDEO: "Cheesy the Christmas Rat", sung by Red Green (and Harold)

Ed. here. Walt had to go all the way into downtown Fort Mudge to do his Christmas shopping -- left it till the last minute as usual -- and has called to say he won't be back until sometime tomorrow, too late to write anything to fill this space. But that's your good luck, because Walt's absence allows me to post a delightful new(ish) song which is bound to become a Christmas classic. It's "Cheesy the Christmas Rat", sung(ish) by Red Green and his nerdy nephew Harold.

Red (Steve Smith) and Harold (Pat McKenna) and the other members of Possum Lodge have been entertaining millions of real men (and a few women) since 1991. Reruns currently air on The Comedy Network and various PBS stations. Click here to visit the official Red Green website.

How to feel good about yourself

As a public service, Walt presents nine ways to feel good (or better) about yourself, taken from How to Do Everything, from the Man Who Should Know, Red Green.

  • Sell all your mirrors.

  • Learn how to use Adobe Photoshop to attach pictures of your head to attractive bodies -- of the same gender (and species).

  • Do NOT make a résumé.

  • Stay away from reunions.

  • When a friend arranges for a stranger to meet you at the airport, do not ask the stranger how the friend described you.

  • Use the Guinness Book of World Records to find people who are shorter, fatter, uglier and stupider than you.

  • Don't look too far ahead, and don't look back at all.

  • Work on identifying the positive aspects of your personality. If you can't think of any that qualifies as humility. It's a start.

  • Do something you're proud of. Failing that, stop doing something you're ashamed of.

  • Red Green's new book is a completely exhaustive guide to do-it-yourself and self-help. So it's a two-fer deal and how can you beat that. Keep your stick on the ice.

Red Green gives you some Christmas laughs

As is well known (see earlier post), Canadians suck at sitcoms and excel at sketch comedy. However, we have not discussed an eminently funny and internationally successful Canadian show which is neither. That would be The Red Green Show, sometimes known as The New Red Green Show.

The Wikipedia entry for The Red Green Show describes it as a cross between a sitcom and a sketch show. Walt says the only thing "cross" about it is Mrs. Walt's expression every time Red and the Possum Lodge gang come on the air.

Really the show is a series of monologues by Red (Steve Smith) or dialogues between Red and his nephew Harold (Pat McKenna) or other lodge members and friends, including such notable actors as Gordon Pinsent, Dave Thomas and -- as you'll see -- Graham Greene.

The writing, by Steve Smith, Rick Green (who appears but does not speak as Bill Smith) and others is brilliant, although some would say you have to be Canadian to get all the jokes. In keeping with the spirit of the season, Walt presents [geddit? ed.] a couple of Christmas segments.

The Red Green Show aired on various channels in Canada, with its ultimate home at CBC, and on PBS in the United States, from 1991 until the series finale in April 2006. It's in reruns on some comedy channels and PBS stations.

Yep, there's a website. PBS also has a Red Green page. "Keep your stick on the ice!"
