African "refugee" jailed for setting fire to Nantes cathedral is released, stabs priest to death

Disturbing news today from France. Agence France Presse. reports that a Rwandan "refugee" suspected of causing a major fire that ravaged the Nantes cathedral last year murdered Father Olivier Mairein in the Vendée region yesterday.

On his way to the town of Mortagne-sur-Sevre, the scene of the dastardly attack, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin tweeted, "All my support for the Catholics of our country after the dramatic murder of a priest in the Vendee region." The effect was rather spoiled, though, when he answered the question of why the "refugee" was still in France by saying he couldn't be deported "while he was still under judicial control." 

Say what? The man, identified as Emmanuel Abayisenga, from Rwanda, was already under judicial control over a horrific fire at the historic Nantes cathedral in July 2020, to which he had confessed. Apparently the asylum-seeker (for such he was) had been in living in France for several years -- one of the great wave who came via Angela Merkel's Germany in 2015 -- and had worked as a volunteer at the religious community of Mortagne-sur-Sèvre. 

Inspector Clouseau, of the local police, said M Abayisenga had turned up at the police station, saying he had killed a priest. The victim of a brutal stabbing was Fr Olivier Mairein, aged 60, who had sheltered the "refugee" after he was released from arrest following the cathedral fire. 

Marine Le Pen, leader of le Front National, said that in France "you can be an illegal migrant, set fire to a cathedral, not be expelled and then reoffend by murdering a priest." Nothing like that would ever happen in the AABC countries -- America, Australia, Britain, Canada -- would it? Well... would it?!

"You disagree with our liberal ideology? You must be insane!"

Speaking of rightist parties led by good-looking women (see below)... there was a disturbing item on the mojo wire a couple of days ago. Seems that Marine Le Pen, the leader of France's Rassemblement National (formerly Front National) has been ordered by magistrates in Nanterre to "undergo a psychiatric examination".

WHY? It's all part of an exercise in political correctness, the mainstream parties' vendetta against her for daring to challenge the liberal orthodoxy which refuses to acknowledge the intrinsic evil of Islamic extremism, as espoused and practised by the Islamic State.

In December of 2015, Mme Le Pen tweeted three pictures of killings carried out by ISIS terrorists, accompanied by the text "Daesh [Arabic term for ISIS] is THIS!" One of the pictures showed the body of James Foley, whom the Muslim extremists beheaded in August 2014.

Mme Le Pen posted the graphic images, since deleted, in response to journalist Jean-Jacques Bourdin, who had compared her nationalist rhetoric to that of the Islamic terrorist group. Speaking to French meeja earlier this year, she said that she is being charged for having "condemned the horrors of Daesh." For that, she said, "the 'justice system' has referred [me] to a psychiatric assessment. How far will they go?!"

That's a good question. A number of politicians have lambasted the magistrates' decision. Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, took to Twitter to express support for the French politician. "A court orders a psychiatric assessment for Marine Le Pen. Words fail me!", he wrote. "Solidarity with her and with the French who love freedom!"

Gilbert Collard, a member of the National Assembly called the order "the psychiatrization of political opinion." And so it is. It comes down to this: Our liberal policies are reasonable and progressive. You disagree with our policies. Therefore you must be insane. Right out of the Soviet and Chinese Communist textbooks on the stifling of dissent.

If you think that equating dissent with insanity isn't part of the liberals' grand strategy, consider the title of Matt Taibbi's recent book, Insane Clown President. Good book, but that's not the point. My point is that if the expression of politically incorrect, "anti-progressive" views can be labelled as a symptom of mental illness, none of us is safe from having our wigs picked by people who are themselves teetering on the brink.

What happens then? No psychiatrist worth his or her $200/hour ever found a subject who didn't need "help". Next thing you know... One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest! And, as the movie (one of my favourites) shows, once you're in the clutches of the "mental health system", you don't get out unless and until those who control the system are good and ready. Mark my words, dear readers. I know whereof I speak.

83% of French back expulsion of "most dangerous" foreigners

A new poll taken days after a self-proclaimed "soldier of ISIS" killed four people, including a heroic police officer, in the French town of Trèbes, shows the French public strongly support a serious crackdown on radical Islam. An overwhelming majority are in favour of deporting some 20,000 "most dangerous" foreigners tagged as "fiché S", meaning that security services have a file on them.

The poll, taken by Odoxa-Dentsu and published on March 30th in Le Figaro, gauged support for proposals put forward after the terrorist attack by Laurent Wauquiez, leader of France's newly-formed Republican Party. (Good choice of names, eh!)

* Ban salafism (approved by 88% of respondents to the poll)
* Place in "administrative detention" the most dangerous "fiché S" cases (87% approval)
* Expel (= deport) the "fiché S" foreigners (83%)
* Re-establish the state of emergency lifted only a few weeks prior to the Trèbes "incident" (61%)

The blue circles show how support for the propositions breaks down according to the political preferences of those polled, from left ("de gauche") through "REM" (the party of President Macron) to right ("de droite") and "FN" (Marine Le Pen's Front National). It's worth noting that even leftists and centrist REM supporters approved the ideas put forward, with only one exception.

The bar graph at the left shows response to the question: Would you be in favour of some curtailment of liberties in order to better assure the security of the French people? 61% of those polled said YES, and even 50% of self-identified leftists agreed.

As for Salafism - a term which may be unfamiliar to some of our readers -- the majority of responders support banning of the radical Islamic sect, even though over half of them acknowledged that implementing the ban in France would be difficult, if not impossible. Breitbart London has previously reported on the nature of Salafism, which contains many radical preachers who see violence as legitimate in pursuance of its aims and which provides the intellectual basis for the Islamic State. A regional director of the German constitutional police said in 2017 that "every jihadist terrorist we've seen in Europe in recent years came from the Salafist scene."

The opinions of the French public are clear, and strong too. Will the government of Emmanuel Macron listen to the people? Are such politically incorrect opinions ever listened to by the government of any of our western democracies? Walt can think of only one prime minister or president who would heed the opinion of the people who elected him. I won't tell you his name but his initials are Donald Trump!

Political victory for Marine Le Pen: French deport migrants FAST

Marine Le Pen lost France's presidential election last year, but is now justified in claiming a moral victory as centrist (read: not quite socialist) President Emmanuel Macron adopts exactly the kind anti-migrant policies and tactics she advocated. The difference is nobody calls M Macron a racist or Islamophobe. They say only that he's being practical about cleaning the garbage off the streets of Paris.

While mouthing the usual liberal platitudes about brotherhood and diversity -- "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" and all that -- the French President has made clear he doesn't want economic migrants in France. As for the "refugees" and asylum-seekers, M Macron wants those who don't qualify for expelled, and quickly too!

M Macron has promised the French people, who are more than fed up with having to thread their way through hordes of bogus refugees -- mostly brown or black, mostly Muslim -- thronging the streets of the City of Light, that he will get migrants off France's streets and out of forest hideouts by the end of this year. With four days left, it's a safe bet that won't happen (lifetime pct .989) but the authorities are ramping up expulsions and allowing ID checks in emergency shelters. Can you imagine that happening in New York or Los Angeles or Toronto?!

The French president doesn't even want migrants to try to come to his country. He has been rolling out a multi-pronged approach that stretches to Africa (where most of the bogus claimants come from), with points set up in Chad and Niger to weed out potential economic migrants and preselect those certain of gaining asylum. Back at home, Interior Minister Gerard Collomb has ordered prefects to crack down on illegal immigration, "act quickly" to expel those who fail to gain asylum and report results within weeks.

That was in November. This month M Collomb went even farther, ordering regional authorities to set up mobile teams to run checks in emergency housing to ascertain the status of migrants. Emergency shelters are considered bedrocks of the French tradition of open arms to those in need and have been considered untouchable, even by security authorities, much like American "sanctuary cities".

Critics contend that Macron's increasingly tough policy on migrants contradicts his image as a humanist who defeated an anti-immigrant populist (Mme Le Pen) for the presidency, and has crossed a line passed by no other president in the land that prides itself as the cradle of human rights. And what does the leader of the Front National say? Probably the French equivalent of "I told you so."

Footnote: A learned professor at a French university tut-tutted that President Macron's policy was the toughest seen since World War II, and was really inconsistent with French respect for human rights, yada yada yada. He may have forgotten that just after WWII (before Mme Le Pen was born), the greatest French president of all time, Charles de Gaulle, warned that measures such as those now being employed would be necessary to keep France France! "Choose your Québec!" election poster stirs up merde in Montréal

Voters in the Montréal-area riding of Gouin went to the polls last Monday in a by-election to fill a vacancy in the Québec National Assembly caused by the resignation of Québec solidaire MNA Françoise David. Results in a moment but first, an item you'll have trouble finding anywhere in Canada's lamestream media. [He's right. I looked! Ed.]

One of the 14 candidates to fill Ms David's shoes was Alexandre Cormier-Denis, representing the Parti Indépendantiste. M Cormier-Denis was considered a dark horse (in the betting sense of the phrase) and given two chances of winning -- slim and none. He did succeed, though, in stirring up the merde by putting up the election poster you see at left, showing a woman wearing a Quebec-branded toque facing another woman (?) wearing a Muslim niqab.

The tagline -- "Choose Your Quebec", in English -- caused the usual gang of "progressives", "antifas", and PC wienies to throw fits. Cries of  "racism" and "Islamophobia" were loud in the land. Bill M-103 was invoked. A police investigation ensued. MUC police quickly removed the poster from outside the Beaubien Métro station, only to put it back up when they were told the M Cormier-Denis was duly registered with Québec's Director of Elections, thus entitled to campaign as he saw fit.

M Cormier-Denis is president of the francophone Horizon Québec Actuel organization, which has close links to the French Front National. In his Vigile.Québec blog, he points out that the sign was not racist because the same woman appeared in both images, and that it was merely meant to represent two different "models of integration".

The Gouin by-election was won by Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, of Québec solidaire, with over 69% of the vote. No surprise there. M Cormier-Denis finished seventh in the 14-person field, with, errr, somewhat less than 69%. But his message will be remembered. Wait and see.

Français! Choisir, pas difficile!

This past Sunday the people of France voted in the first round of that country's presidential election. Walt's preferred candidate, Marine Le Pen, leader of the Front National, finished a close second to Emmanuel Macron, the candidate of the "extreme centre". The only surprise, to me, was that Mme Le Pen did not finish first, after the latest Islamic terrorist attack. This result, while largely in line with polling expectations, is still a huge event in the long-term arc of French politics. For a good analysis of why this is so, see "The French election, explained in 9 maps and charts", on Vox, 25/4/17.

The second round of the election -- the finale -- will take place on May 7th, when Mme Le Pen and M Macron go mano-a-mano, so to speak. The winner becomes the president of France. Well before the polls closed on the first round, the lamestream media were crowing that, even if Mme Le Pen, topped the polls, she would get trounced in the second round by whichever "mainstream" candidate she faced. That's because (they say) Mme Le Pen is a creature of the extreme right and is unacceptable to the vast majority of progressive, modern, politically correct yada yada yada voters. Just like Donald Trump.

Well, yaboo to that! According to the latest Opinionway-Orpi poll, as reported in the online edition of the Express today, Marine Le Pen's campaign for the presidency is gathering increasing momentum as she closes the gap on M Macron. The poll showed Mme Le Pen would garner 41% of the vote in the runoff – a score up two percentage points in two days -- while M Macron's share dropped to 59%.

Other polls are in the same range. A 20-point gap is a lot, but the polls show the momentum is with Mme Le Pen. By acting too confident, M Macron could easily blow the election that is his to lose. Just like Hellery Clinton.

What is important is that the people of France have, for the first time since Charles De Gaulle returned from Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, a clear choice for their future. They can vote for France and for civilization, or for globalism and the Islamization of Europe. It's that simple.

"Allahu akbar!" again... ENOUGH ALREADY!

Paris this time, right on the Champs-Élysées. And just in time for the first round of voting in the French presidential election. If this latest "incident" -- one cop killed, two injured -- doesn't push Marine Le Pen into first place, I don't know what will.

As first reports came in yesterday afternoon, the lamestream media and France's pinkish outgoing president were being careful, as usual, to avoid using the word "Islamic", in spite of an almost immediate claim of responsibility by ISIS. Once the identity of the perp -- killed by the police in the firefight -- was confirmed, apologists for Islamic terrorism were quick to point out that 39-year-old Karim Cheurfi was a French citizen. A veil [a niqab? Ed.] was drawn over M Cheurfi's ethnic origin, place of birth and religious beliefs.

Today, Inspector Clouseau confirmed that the Islamic terrorist -- for such was he -- was detained just last February for threatening police, but then freed for "lack of evidence". He was also convicted in 2003 of attempted homicide in the shootings of... wait for it... two police officers. Hmm. Maybe he wasn't an Islamist, just a cop-hater. Or both. Whatever he was, he isn't any longer. Police shot and killed M Cheurfi after he opened fire on a police van. Inside his car, the flics found some knives and a pump-action shotgun.

The terrorist attack brought to the fore the recurrent campaign theme of France's fight against Islamic extremism, one of the mainstays of the anti-immigration platform of Front National leader Marine Le Pen, who redoubled her appeal to the French to "vote for civilization". Speaking at her campaign headquarters, Mme Le Pen called for a firmer hand against Islamic extremism and promised get-tough measures if elected. Right now, she said, the outgoing Socialist government must re-establish border controls. In reply, the Socialist prime minister accused the FN leader of seeking to politicize the assault. Amazing.

Marine Le Pen criticizes Pope, Church for interfering in French politics

In an interview with La Croix, Marine Le Pen, the Front National candidate for the presidensity of France, said she was angry with the Roman Catholic Church "because I think it interferes with everything except what it should really be concerned with."

Mme Le Pen told the French daily that she has a "strong faith, and I am fortunate that I have never doubted it." She was, however, critical of Pope Francis, particularly on the issue of immigration. Charitable activities should be the responsibilities of individuals, she said, while states should pursue their national interests. "When the Pope urges nations to accept immigrants without restrictions," she declared, "this falls within the realm of politics and even interference."

The Front National leader took a strong stand for the French tradition of secularism in government and in public affairs generally. She argued that religious symbols such as the Islamic veil should not be allowed in public. "Secularism means that one can pass someone in the street," she explained, "without either one knowing what faith the other follows."

When asked whether religious leaders have a right to enter into public debates, Mme Le Pen replied, "I don’t get involved with what the Pope should say to his followers. I don't think religious should tell the French people how to vote." She went on to say that if she is elected President of France, she will "with great pleasure" invite the Pope to visit, "and I will tell him exactly what I have just told you!"

The first round of voting in France's presidential election takes place next week. If none of the candidates wins a majority, a run-off between the top two contenders will be held on May 7th.

Jews must choose! (Arabs and Africans too!) : Marine Le Pen

As reported here a few days ago, Marine Le Pen is leading the polls in the race for the presidency of France. There is a better-than-even chance that she will make it through the two rounds of voting in the spring, to become the leader of the nation, by popular choice. (Lifetime pct .989.)

Here's one of the reasons why.

Although Angela Merkel's Germany is catching up quickly, France is home to western Europe's largest Jewish and Muslim minorities, with up to half a million Jews and an estimated five to six million followers of the Prophet finding refuge within her borders. Those who enter the country as "refugees" and asylum-seekers are, it seems, loath to give up the citizenship of their miserable homelands, just in case they ever want to return. For a holiday, let's say. (Tens of thousands of "refugees" living in Switzerland are reportedly using their welfare payments to fund extended holidays back home in the countries from which they supposedly "fled in fear of their lives".)

In a recent interview with France 2 TV, Mme Le Pen said that, if her Front National takes power in the spring, French Jews holding dual Israeli citizenship will have to give up one of their nationalities if Marine Le Pen. And dual nationals of Arab and African countries would have to renounce their French citizenship. French nationals, she explained, would be barred from holding the citizenship of countries outside the European Union, except for Russia, which she described as part of "the Europe of nations".

Israel, she said, "is not a European country and doesn't consider itself as such." But, she added, "I'm asking the Israelis to choose their nationality. It doesn't mean that if they don't choose French nationality, they have to leave."

As for Merkans, Mme Le Pen said that, despite her support for Donald Trump and her enthusiastic backing of his Executive Order restricting travel to the United States from seven Muslim-majority states, holders of French and American passports would have to give up their French citizenship if they wished to hold onto their US passports. She did not say whether or not the same rule would apply to British dual nationals.

How refreshing to hear a European leader say that hers is a European country, and intends to remain that way. Those who want to keep one foot in Europe and the other in the desert wastes of Asia or Africa must realize that they can't have it both ways. Choose, they must!

"Vote for civilization!", Marine Le Pen tells French

Marine Le Pen, leader of  the Front National, today excoriated globalization and Islamic fundamentalism and called on the people of France to vote for civilization!

In her closing speech to this weekend's party at Lyon, Mme Le Pen blasted the "two totalitarianisms" threatening France. "We are at a crossroad...," she told the crowd. "This election is a choice of civilization." She asked whether her three children and other young citizens would have the rights and culture of the current generation. "Will they even speak our French language?"

Yesterday, to applause and cries of "On est chez nous!" ("We are at home!"), Mme Le Pen unveiled her "144 Commitments" -- a nationalist agenda that envisions a France unshackled from the European Union and NATO, that puts French people first. She promised drastic cuts in immigration, to ensure work, health care and other services for French citizens first.

Mme LePen said she is defending France's patrimony -- material and immaterial -- "which has no price" and is "irreplaceable." Running on the campaign slogan "In the Name of the People", she called on all French patriots, whether of the left or right to join with her. In politics, she explained, "the division is no longer right-left (but) patriot-globalist. You have your place at our side."

The FN leader told a cheering crowd that globalization is erasing France, just as Charles de Gaulle said predicted some six decades ago. Islamic fundamentalism is "planting itself in some neighborhoods...and vulnerable minds," she said, listing Muslim veils, mosques and prayer in the streets as unacceptable cultural dangers that "no French person...attached to his dignity can accept."

Talking about the effects of massive immigration, Mme Le Pen said, "When you arrive in a country, you don't start violating laws, demanding rights.... There will be no other laws and values in France but French."

Mme Le Pen's 144 Commitments include a promise to limit immigration to no more than 10,000 per year, and restrain "family reunification" policies that haave allowed many immigrants from former mainly Muslim French colonies such as Morocco and Algeria to bring in relatives. She also promised to add 15,000 police and 6000 border patrol officers, and to arrange for foreigners convicted of crimes to serve their prison terms in their homelands.

The French go to the polls this spring to elect a new president. Opinion polls show Mme Le Pen as favoured to win the first-round vote on 23 April. Whether or not she would win the run-off, on 7 May, depends on who opposes her. The socialists and right-wing parties are in disarray, beset by scandals, making it possible that a hitherto unknown centrist, Emmanuel Macron to be the other name on the final ballot. Walt will be watching closely.

French leader calls for ban on religious headgear and symbols in all public places

Citing the need to combat Islamist extremism, Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s Front National, has called for the country's ban on religious symbols and garb in schools to be extended to all public places.

She advocates the broadening of an existing law, called "the headscarf ban", that prohibits conspicuous displays of religious symbols in public schools. The banned "symbols" include religious headgear such as the hijabs, niqabs, and burqas worn by large and increasing numbers of Muslim women, not just in France but everywhere in so-called "Christian" countries. Also banned in French schools are turbans and kippahs.

Mme Le Pen added that Jewish and Christian symbols would have to be included in the ban in the name of equality and the "national interest". "I know that every French person, including Jews, can understand that if we ask for this sacrifice from them [in the framework] of the battle against the advance of Islamic extremism, they will make this effort and understand it."

In 2013 the government of Québec proposed to enact a Charter of Québec Values, which would have had provisions similar to those now advocated by Marine Le Pen. They were defeated (for other reasons) in the ensuing provincial election, so the Charter was never made law. However, in June 2015, the Liberal government introduced a revised version. See "Québec reintroduces legislation to ban wearing of niqab", WWW 11/6/15. Things move slowly in Canada, and hearings on the "religious neutrality bill" started just this week.

Walt finds it interesting that it's the French -- both in Europe and North America -- who are leading the fight against Islamic extremists and the Islamization of the West. What about us "anglos"? Are we so ashamed of our Western culture and Western values that we fight for the "rights" of those who want to destroy us? I can't figure it out.

France: Setback for le Front National; what if Islamists take over?

Walt admits to being not a little dismayed by the results of the runoff in France's regional elections, this past Sunday. Only a week before, I rejoiced -- a bit prematurely perhaps -- in the standings after the first round, which showed Marine Le Pen's Front National topping the polls, with as much as 40% of the popular vote. The remainder was split between the President François Hollande's socialists and the centre-right(ish) Union de la Droite, led by former president Nicolas Sarkozy.

Under the French system, where no-one gets a majority (50% + 1) in the first round of voting, another round is held, dropping off lesser candidates, until someone emerges a clear (majority) winner. It was widely believed -- or hoped, in some quarters including this one -- that Mme Le Pen had a good chance of winning the run-off in Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie, her region in the northeast of France, as did her niece Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, who had won the first round in the southeastern region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.

Alas, it was not to be. What happened, in a nutshell, was that the socialists tanked, going so far as to actually withdraw their candidates in Mme Le Pen's region, telling their adherents to vote for the Union to stop the Front. Simple... and stupid... as that. So, the FN was defeated in all six regions where it had led the polls in the first round, and France is safe for democracy and multiculturalism. For now.

Let me draw an analogy here. Suppose Hellery Clinton gets the Democratic nomination -- hardly a long shot -- and Jeb beats out the Donald for the GOP nod, leaving Mr Trump to run as an Independent. And suppose Mr. Trump finishes first, with 40% of the vote, with Bush III second and Mrs. Bill third. What happened in France is like unto what would happen in the USA if there were a second round of voting and Queen Hillary told all the Democrats to get behind Jeb to stop Trump (thus to keep America democratic if not Democratic, etc). Got it?

For the French, there's always 2017, when it will be time once again for a presidential election. It may well come down to Hollande vs Sarkozy vs Le Pen. Then we'll see.

As long as we're supposing things about France, here's a thought. What if, by the time 2017 rolls around, enough Islamists are French citizens (or vice versa) that they can make or break one of the candidates. Maybe they could even form their own party and, supported by all those who denounce racism and celebrate diversity, win the election.

An Islamist government in France! What would that be like? In "What if the Islamists took France?", the National Post's Ian Hunter writes about Michel Houellebecq’s novel Submission, set in France in 2022 (the year of the next presidential election after that of 2017). "The message I took from the novel Submission", he says, "is that it is already too late. Western civilization has lost its core beliefs, and its will to survive."

Hm. Maybe Submission should be on Walt's required reading list. Or maybe not. After all, it's possible to imagine an Islamist takeover of France, but not, surely, Britain... or Canada... or the United States of America.

Front National tops French polls; liberals, Muslims, Jews panic

Another country heard from! Another strong vote for stopping the Islamization of Europe! Results from regional elections held throughout France on the weekend show Marine Le Pen's Front National within reach of taking over four regional councils in France, after winning 28% of the vote -- a result that has shocked liberal elites across Europe.

As Walt predicted following the Islamic terrorist bombings in Paris in November, the anti-immigration FN racked up its best result since its founding in 1972, finishing in first place in six of France's 13 regions.

Mme Le Pen stood for her party in France’s northern region, and won the first round with 40% of the vote. In the southeast of France, her niece, Marion Maréchal-Le Pen, headed the field, also getting more than 40% of the vote in the her region. Mme Le Pen described the result as "magnificent", adding that it showed that the FN was now “without contest the first party of France”.

The result has caused much soiling of shorts by the usual gang of "progressive thinkers", diversity advocates, and other bleeding-heart liberals. Typical of the pissing and moaning about Islamophobia and the "threat to democracy" is a statement by German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, leader of the Social Democrats, calling it a "wake-up call for all democrats in Europe.... It is of course a shock when rightwing extremists achieve such a result and become the strongest political force in the first round of voting in France -- one of the founding members of the EU in the heart of Europe."

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi commented on FB that European institutions needed to change or they risked becoming the "best allies of Marine Le Pen and those who try to imitate her.... Without a strategic design, particularly on the economy and on growth, populist movements will sooner or later prevail also in general elections."

The Democratic "leader" of the USA -- Barack Hussein Obama -- made no mention of the French elections in his little fireside chat Sunday night. He was too busy telling Americans not to be afraid of Muslims, be tolerant, yada yada yada. As if nothing like what happened in Paris could ever happen in the Land of the Free (etc). Oh... wait....

Today the Senate, tomorrow the Élysée Palace!

This is the Le Palais de l'Élysée, the residence of the presidents of France. Quite an impressive pile, isn't it? More so than the White House, although I'll give you the latter's better lawns.

The Élysée palace is currently -- and temporarily -- occupied by one François Hollande, the most unpopular French president of modern times. But all that could change with the next presidential election, due in 1917. Walt is sending a tape measure (so she can measure windows for new drapes) to Marine Le Pen, leader of France's rightist Front National (= National Front) party.

Supporters of the FN were mightily encouraged this weekend, when the party won its first two seats in the French Senate, in what Mme Le Pen described as a "historic victory... beyond what we hoped for."

Half of the Senate's seats are elected by regional officials across the country every three years. Final results today are expected to confirm control of the Senate passing to conservative parties such as the UMP and UDI, and the ultra-conservative Front National. They are expected to share a majority of 10 or 20 seats in the 348-seat chamber.

The win comes on the heels of a strong showing by the FN and other Eurosceptic and right-wing parties in May's elections to the European Parliament.

Stéphane Ravier, one of the two newly-elected FN senators exulted, "There is only one door left for us to push and it is that of the Élysée." Vive le Front!

The next president of France? Could be!

Manuel Valls is the Socialist Prime Minister of France. He is lying awake nights, worrying about the increasingly certain prospect of this lady -- Marine Le Pen -- becoming France's next president. Recent opinion polls suggest that Mme Le Pen will easily make the run-off in the presidential elections scheduled for 2017. And, if she is opposed by the feckless and unpopular François Hollande, she'd be virtually guaranteed to win!

At the top of the list of issues which could well put Mme Le Pen's rightist Front National into power is immigration, of which the French have had entirely too much, if you ask Monsieur Untel. [That's French for "Mr. Someone" or "Mr. Anonymous". Ed.] Just last week, 1000s of disgruntled Frenchpersons rallied in Calais to demand that the port city be "saved" from the large numbers of migrants who have arrived there in recent months.

Why are all those Afghans, Pakistanis, North Africans and so on flocking to Calais? Easy. They're really trying to get to No-longer-great Britain -- just across the Channel -- where welfare and social benefits are perceived to be even more generous than those of France. If they can just get on the ferry to Dover, they reckon, no-one's going to stop them settling in Old Blighty... unless the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) gets into power, which is not bloody likely.

Getting back to M Valls... he warned a group of fellow left-wingers in Bologna, Italy [Bologna, indeed. Ed.] that "In France, the extreme right of Marine Le Pen is at the gates of power. We have to act differently. We have to speak differently. In order to be listened to and to be heard."

In other words, the lefties would have to abandon the experiments in wealth redistribution and social engineering that have made France and many other countries of Europe a haven and a heaven for those who think the world -- the rich, white world -- owes them a living. If Europe closes its doors to third world migrants, where will they go then? There'll be no place left except, errr, North America.

Right wing parties win big -- really big -- in European elections

Much soiling of silky shorts in European corridors of power today, as one-worlders, socialists and "progressive thinkers" recoil in horror at the sweeping gains made in European Parliament elections by Eurosceptic and right-wing parties. BBC News headlines the story "Eurosceptic 'earthquake' rocks EU elections".

The aim of parties like France's Front National and Britain's United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) is to slash the powers of the European Union or, even better, abolish it altogether. Their countries, they say, have all but completely ceded national sovereignty to the huge and unwieldy EU, making it impossible to determine their own destinies or even control their own borders. (If you think that means "restrict immigration", you're probably right!)

Yesterday, 21 of the EU's 28 nations held elections to choose representatives to the European Parliament. The other seven countries, including Britain and the Netherlands, had voted earlier in the week. And the big winner? ... May I have the envelope, please? ... Step forward France, where Marine Le Pen's Front National topped the polls with 26% support -— 4.1 million votes.

In her victory speech, Mme Le Pen said, "The sovereign people have spoken...acclaiming they want to take back the reins of their destiny!" She called the results "the first step in a long march to liberty." See "Against Islamization, the French send in La Marine!"

Need I tell you that the French government took a rather different view. Prime Minister Manuel Valls called the National Front win "more than a news alert...it is a shock, an earthquake." And President François Hollande is supposed to be holding a crisis meeting -- his office called it "urgent talks" -- with his top ministers even as Walt writes.

But France is not the only country experiencing widespread disillusionment with the EU and the Islamization of Europe. (Don't kid yourself. That's what this is really all about!) In Not-so-great Britain, Nigel Farage, leader of the fiercely Eurosceptical United Kingdom Independence Party, said, "It does look to me [like] UKIP is going to win this election and yes, that will be an earthquake, because never before in the history of British politics has a party that is seen to be an insurgent party ever topped the polls in a national election."

The first official results announced late Sunday had UKIP at about 30% -- 12% better than their result in the last European elections in 2009.
In Denmark, although the governing Social Democrats hung onto their five seats to remain the biggest Danish party in the European Parliament, the big winner was the populist Danish People's Party, which gained three seats for a total of four.

In Germany, a year-old party that wants that country to stop using the euro single currency reportedly won 6.7% of the vote.
In Greece, the leftist Eurosceptic Syriza party led with 26.49%, but the far-right Golden Dawn party finished a respectable third, with 9.33%.

In the Netherlands, however, the right-wing Party for Freedom, led by Geert Wilders surprisingly dropped a seat from five to four. As the Dutch voted in one representative each from a radical feminist party and an animal rights group, it's just possible that they didn't take the exercise very seriously. However, Mr. Wilders, optimistic as ever, said his party looked forward to working with Mme Le Pen, calling her "the next French president."

Are there any lessons in this for American and Canadian political parties? Probably not. Lamestream pundits in the USA are pushing the line that this year's mid-terms will show the Tea Party on the wane, with moderate Republicans moving the GOP towards the centre. And, as Ron Paul and a long line of others have found out, it's all but impossible to get Americans to actually vote for any group which the media call "extreme"... even if the "extremism" is in defence of liberty and personal freedom.

Canada is even worse. The old-line Conservative and Liberal parties are not nearly as far to the right or left as their names would suggest. Rather, they are parties of the "radical centre". Even the New [sic] Democratic Party, nominally of the left, hews so close to the centre that its members have changed the party anthem to "The Very Pale Pink Flag". Don't look for any political earthquakes in North America any time soon.

Against Islamization, the French send in La Marine!

If Pauline Marois were honest [What? An honest politician?! Ed.], she'd admit that the appeal of the Charter of Québec Values to the pure laine Québecois -- outside of Montréal's West Island -- is its promise to put a brake on the Islamization of la Belle Province.

If enacted (as now seems doubtful) it would proscribe the wearing of religious headgear and other symbols. That would include the Sikhs' turbans and the Jews' kippas, but the main target would appear to be the hijab/niqab/burqa worn by Muslim women. (See "Hijab, niqab, burqa -- what's the difference?" -- one of Walt's most-read posts.)

Although it's not politically correct to say so, les Québecois are sick, sore and tired of accommodating themselves and their distinct society to the foreign beliefs and practices being imported into their province by the tidal wave of Muslim refugees and immigrants who live large off benefits provided by the state, but refuse to integrate themselves into the host society.

The people of Québec are not alone in their resentment of Islamization and forced multiculturalism. Walt suspects that the majority of Canadians (outside of Toronto and Vancouver) would support some changes to the Canadian Charter of Rights to give a few rights to the majority, for a change. And the citizens of France -- the cradle of liberty, equality and fraternity -- have just given a ringing endorsement to the policies of Marine Le Pen's Front National (= National Front) which advocates controlling imports of foreign goods, leaving the Eurozone, dismantling the European Union, and -- especially -- stopping immigration. Completely.

In local elections held in March, the FN stunned France by winning several significant mayoralties. Pundits now predict that Mme Le Pen may match the achievement of her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, by getting into the second round of France's presidential election due in 2017.

What's the secret of Marine Le Pen's success? According to The Economist, a large segment of the electorate -- especially the native French working class -- is taken with her frankness, and the way she "attacks politicians from the mainstream parties as an out-of-touch metropolitan elite with no notion of how to reverse their country's economic, political and cultural decline." [My emphasis. Walt]

Of course this has the socialists and secular humanists who run France (Allo, M Hollande!) and the lamestream media all bent out of shape. In the same editorial, The Economist whines that the FN "offers only a nasty and negative set of policies suffused with xenophobic, anti-Muslim and illiberal instincts." Maybe so, but those "instincts" would seem to accord perfectly with those of the majority of the French people.

There's a lesson there -- even The Economist admits it -- for the leaders of the ABC countries (America, Britain and Canada), who should realize that "populist parties are on the march across Europe"!

With the proposed Charter of Québec Values, the Parti Québecois seemed to have learned from the example of France. But then Mme Marois introduced issues of separation from Canada and economic management, which did not play so well in the Saguenay. Now the PQ is going to lose. (Lifetime pct .987)

What lessons do we learn from this, boys and girls? The Economist warns that "if Europe's leaders cannot reconnect with their citizens, Ms Le Pen's success will be just the start". Indeed. If you want to get elected or re-elected, don't listen to the lamestream media and the metropolitan elites -- listen to the people!

One French politician likens another to chimp, found politically incorrect

One of the anthropoids pictured above is a French politician. The other is a chimpanzee. One of them is the French Minister of Justice, Christiane Taubira. The other is not.

Which is which seems to have caused confusion in the mind of Anne-Sophie Leclerc, a Front National candidate in a local election being held in the northeastern town of Rethel. Mme Leclerc posted these pix on her Fecesbook page. On TV, Mme Leclerc called Mms Taubira "a savage, showing up on TV with that devil's smile."

Mme Leclerc added that of course she is not a racist, but "I'd rather see her up a tree...than in the government like this."

The FN, which has been taking a strong stand against immigration, has been working hard to shake off accusations of racism, made by the usual pro-multicult crowd. The party and its leader, Marine Le Pen, have been gaining ground in opinion polls ahead of municipal and European elections next year. Last Sunday the FN won a by-election in the southern town of Brignoles.

Mme Le Pen's popularity has grown amid high unemployment and public frustration over illegal Roma [= gypsy. Ed.] camps, with a poll this week showing voters consider her the strongest challenger to Socialist President Francois Hollande.

Jew-killer turns out to be Muslim extremist -- quelle surprise!

So, farewell then Mohamed Merah, cold-blooded murderer of a French rabbi and three small children. Walt hopes the 72 virgins who meet you in paradise turn out to be male 19-year-olds. [Don't go there. Ed.]

Merah died in a hail of bullets in Toulouse, France, last night, after a tense 30-hour standoff with the gendarmerie. He was firing at the cops as he defenestrated himself.

In the first hours after the killing, the usual lefties and mainstream media hacks were claiming that the killer must have been a French neo-Nazi, undoubtedly inspired by the presidential campaign rhetoric of Marine Le Pen, leader of the right-wing Front National. Ms LePen, like her father before her, has not been shy to talk about France's problems with immigrants, race and religion. She had previously likened Muslims praying in the street to the Nazi occupation.

Today Walt hears that chefs in Toulouse and Paris are preparing extra helpings of crow, to be eaten by those moaning about the threat of a right-wing, fascist, neo-Nazi [That's enough adjectives. Ed.] takeover of the French government. For, you see, Mohamed Merah was a French citizen, of Algerian origin, and a Muslim.

Not just any Muslim, though. Merah had been under intelligence surveillance and a Middle East think tank said he appeared to belong to Fursan Al-Izza, a French of Al-Qaeda, ideologically aligned with the movement to Islamise Western states by implementing sharia law.

During the standoff, Merah boasted to police negotiators that he had brought France to its knees, and that his only regret was not having been able to carry out more killings.

President Nicolas Sarkozy, who is fighting hard for re-election, called Merah's killings "terrorist attacks" and announced a crackdown on people following extremist websites. [Like ours? Ed.]

Said M. le Président, "From now on, any person who habitually consults websites that advocate terrorism or that call for hate and violence will be punished. France will not tolerate ideological indoctrination on its soil."

Meanwhile, the lefties have opened their mouths to change feet, and are now accusing Marine LePen of using the crisis for political gain. A spokesthingy for far-left (i.e. crypto-Commie) challenger Jean-Luc Melenchon denounced Mlle Le Pen’s party as "vultures"feeding at the scenes of the crimes.

"Throughout this campaign, yesterday as today, Marine Le Pen has had the same goal – to feed a Crusader spirit inspired by religious war under the theory of a clash of civilisations," alleged Alexis Corbière.

If that is so, Walt wishes Mlle Le Pen all the best in her campaign, and invites M. Corbière to partake of a sumptuous banquet of merde.

French fed up with Muslim occupation

Some readers will remember a picture of Muslims praying in the street appearing here some months ago. There are several videos of such scenes on the Net. Here's one of them.



And here's where Walt found this.

One of Walt's followers wondered if the videos were perhaps a hoax, images shot in an Arab country pasted onto a background of a Paris street scene. Wrong. These are real, shot in France where Islam is now the second-biggest religion after Catholicism.

This is a common scene not just in Paris but in cities all over France. A call to prayer goes up from a loudspeaker perched on the hood of a car, and phalanxes of muslims touch their heads to the ground and point their bums towards heaven. And the French are sick of it.

Marine Le Pen, leader of France's Front National, said recently that these scenes are proof that Muslims are taking over France and becoming an occupying force.

Reuters reports the head of research for French pollsters IFOP as saying "This has become a key political issue. Street prayers and the perceived growing influence of Islam are seen as impginging on French values of secularism [and] communal living."

Mme Le Pen's comments are evidently resonating with the French public. A TNS Sofres poll showed that support for her ideas has grown by 12 percentage points in the last year.

A presidential election is about 15 months away. Jean-Marie Le Pen, father of Marine, expects the party to to even better than in 2002, when it knocked out the mainstream socialist candidate.

Think of le Front National as France's equivalent of the Tea Party. Except for one thing. Americans do not yet see the threat of Islamic domination. The streets of Atlanta, Bellingham and Cleveland are not yet blocked by praying Muslims. The Islamization of America is not an issue ... yet ...
