Ann Coulter muses: How about "Trumpism without Trump"?

I don't read Ann Coulter a lot, because I find her books and columns somewhat lightweight. And I've never heard her speak. Perhaps I should start paying attention, for it seems she delivered a thought-provoking speech Thursday night to the University of Texas at Austin's Young Conservatives of Texas.

Breitbart News reports that she strayed way off the announced topic of immigration, and argued that what America needs, in four years, is "Trumpism without Trump". Since most of the Breitbart report is quotes from Ms Coulter's speech, I trust they (and she) won't mind if I repost them, with just a few edits for brevity.

In Ms Coulter's opinion, the 2020 presidential election has produced "the best of all possible outcomes" for conservatives. "The reason I’m very happy that [President] Trump lost – and lost narrowly – is that a second term of Trump would have killed us," she said. "What we want, and what I think we can get in four years, is Trumpism without Trump."

What would that look like? Ms Coulter defined "Trumpism" as America taking care of its own people first. "The left behind, the working class, the middle class — they want jobs, they want safe neighbourhoods. They don't want to have to keep paying taxes for English as a Second Language classes and to pay for emergency rooms with a lot of illegal immigrants coming in with many...health problems. We have to take care of our own first. That's Trumpism. And it hasn't been tried. It certainly hasn't triumphed."

Why not? Ms Coulter explained, "[Trump would] say these wild things that we'd get blamed for, he'd get attacked on, and then actually did nothing. Trump thinks, 'I tweeted it. Therefore, it's done.'... It's ironic...that he lost this election, very possibly because of cheating. Democrats cheat all the time. … Trump has been talking about 'mail-in ballots are dangerous, they're gonna steal this election.' He’s been talking about it probably all year. [But] talking about it isn’t the same as doing it."

"Much like as he tweeted out, 'Law and Order'," she added, "and yet cities are still burning across the nation. [He] didn’t do anything about it. It's like he didn't know he was president.... So, I think the Republicans' position [in the next four years] has to be: This is the new Republican Party. It will be Trumpism, but we're getting rid of the eight-year-old."

Ms Coulter advised Republicans to remain focused on populist issues. "But we're going to have someone who speaks well, who is articulate, who hates the media, hates political correctness.... It'll be a lot easier to push Trumpism without Trump."

"I'm glad he lost," she continued. "I'm glad it was very, very narrow. And I'm glad we seem to have held the Senate. … And we have definitely held the House [of Representatives]. That means they [Democrats] couldn't do anything terrible.

"My friends in California were warning me when I was totally, totally on the Trump bandwagon, actually in 2015, after he announced [his candidacy for president]. In California they were all saying, 'Ann, he’s gonna be like Arnold Schwarzenegger. He talks a good game, he'll get in, he'll become a liberal,'" Ms Coulter recalled. 

She speculated that a Trump second term would have been like "Arnold Schwarzenegger's second term, except even worse. Jared Kushner would be out releasing criminals, passing the amnesty.... It would have been an unmitigated disaster, and we'd never be able to get the MAGA agenda back."

Ms Coulter's conclusion? "Trumpism without Trump — that is the winning formula!" That's a great debate topic -- something Republicans and conservatives need to think about and discuss, starting on the day Still-President Trump concedes defeat. It would be nice if that day never comes, and I would be on board if The Donald decides to take another shot at the presidensity in 2024, but, as Ms Coulter suggests, there must surely be other options.

Political victory for Marine Le Pen: French deport migrants FAST

Marine Le Pen lost France's presidential election last year, but is now justified in claiming a moral victory as centrist (read: not quite socialist) President Emmanuel Macron adopts exactly the kind anti-migrant policies and tactics she advocated. The difference is nobody calls M Macron a racist or Islamophobe. They say only that he's being practical about cleaning the garbage off the streets of Paris.

While mouthing the usual liberal platitudes about brotherhood and diversity -- "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" and all that -- the French President has made clear he doesn't want economic migrants in France. As for the "refugees" and asylum-seekers, M Macron wants those who don't qualify for expelled, and quickly too!

M Macron has promised the French people, who are more than fed up with having to thread their way through hordes of bogus refugees -- mostly brown or black, mostly Muslim -- thronging the streets of the City of Light, that he will get migrants off France's streets and out of forest hideouts by the end of this year. With four days left, it's a safe bet that won't happen (lifetime pct .989) but the authorities are ramping up expulsions and allowing ID checks in emergency shelters. Can you imagine that happening in New York or Los Angeles or Toronto?!

The French president doesn't even want migrants to try to come to his country. He has been rolling out a multi-pronged approach that stretches to Africa (where most of the bogus claimants come from), with points set up in Chad and Niger to weed out potential economic migrants and preselect those certain of gaining asylum. Back at home, Interior Minister Gerard Collomb has ordered prefects to crack down on illegal immigration, "act quickly" to expel those who fail to gain asylum and report results within weeks.

That was in November. This month M Collomb went even farther, ordering regional authorities to set up mobile teams to run checks in emergency housing to ascertain the status of migrants. Emergency shelters are considered bedrocks of the French tradition of open arms to those in need and have been considered untouchable, even by security authorities, much like American "sanctuary cities".

Critics contend that Macron's increasingly tough policy on migrants contradicts his image as a humanist who defeated an anti-immigrant populist (Mme Le Pen) for the presidency, and has crossed a line passed by no other president in the land that prides itself as the cradle of human rights. And what does the leader of the Front National say? Probably the French equivalent of "I told you so."

Footnote: A learned professor at a French university tut-tutted that President Macron's policy was the toughest seen since World War II, and was really inconsistent with French respect for human rights, yada yada yada. He may have forgotten that just after WWII (before Mme Le Pen was born), the greatest French president of all time, Charles de Gaulle, warned that measures such as those now being employed would be necessary to keep France France! Reverse racism rules at the Canadian Broadcorping Castration

In Adios America!, Ann Coulter dissects and gives numerous examples of the extraordinary lengths the (((controlled))) lamestream media -- Hello, New York Times ! -- goes to to suppress any information about the race, ethnicity, religion and/or immigration status of persons accused of crimes. Descriptions of perps routinely omit words, such as "black", which might help the general public to indentify the wrong-doers and thus assist the police in bringing them to what we laughingly call "justice".

Here's a case in point from the Great No-longer-white North. Last Saturday, a young man by the name of Yosif Al-Hasnawi (religion and immigration status unreported) had just left his mosque in downtown Hamilton ON, when he spotted two men accosting another man. Mr Al-Hasnawi tried to intervene and was subsequently shot by one of the assailants. Hamilton police issued a warrant for James Burningsky King, pictured below.

The picture at right was the first one released, apparently taken from police files. The picture at left was released a couple of days later, by which time Mr King had cut his hair and shaved off his facial hair, thus rendering himself less identifiable as a... errr... First Nations person, or indigenous person, or, to use the now proscribed, politically incorrect term, Indian.

Canadians (and probably Americans too) would have figured out his race anyway, from his name. Unless of course they listened to Canada's state broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcorping Castration. Reporting on his arrest yesterday (in the vicinity of the Mississaugas of New Credit First Nation reserve near Hagersville ON), the CBC used only the left-hand picture and identified the accused, now facing a murder charge, as plain old "James Kind". The ultra-PC broadcaster has thus done its bit to avert race war between Muslim migrants and the warriors of the Six Nations. Good for them!

Liberal academic surprised and saddened by truth about diversity

Dr Robert D. Putnam could well be called the archetypal liberal academic. He is a social scientist, and Professor of Public Policy at Harvard. Until recently his best-known work was Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community (Simon & Schuster, 2000).

The good doctor is, by his own admission, pro-diversity, one of the "useful idiots" who believe that immigration is good for us because, in the words of Canuck Prime Minister Junior Trudeau, "diversity makes us strong". (Ann Coulter is one of many who disagrees. See "Diversity does NOT make us strong, sez Ann Coulter", WWW 28/11/17.) For years after writing Bowling Alone, Dr Putnam studying the effect of ethnic diversity on a community's well-being, striving to prove that he was right and that "nativists" like Ann Coulter (and Walt!) are wrong.

In 2006, Dr Putnam won the Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science, given by the eponymous foundation at Sweden's Uppsala University. His lecture at the award ceremony was entitled E Pluribus Unum: Diversity and Community in the Twenty-first Century. In his lecture Lecturethe good doctor had to admit that he was wrong, after all, and that diversity makes us weak, not strong. Contrary to his expectation -- and desire! -- his study showed that the greater the ethnic diversity, the less people trusted their neighbours, their local leaders, and even the news.

People in diverse communities gave less to charity voted less, had fewer friends, were more unhappy, and were more likely to describe television as "my most important form of entertainment". Dr Putnam did not find that people in diverse communities trusted people of their own ethnicity more, and other races less. They didn't trust anyone! The difference in neighbourliness between an ethnically homogeneous town, such as Bismarck ND, and a diverse one, such as Los Angeles, he said, is "roughly the same as" the difference in a town with a 7% poverty rate compared with a 23% poverty rate.

Most of the data on which Dr Putnam relied were collected around the same time he was doing the research for Bowling Alone. But he didn't publish his study right away, because he didn't like the results. As a "liberal academic whose own values put him squarely in the pro-diversity camp," said the New York Times, he had hoped to find some other explanation. He reran the numbers, accounting for differences in crime rates, age, income, marital status, home ownership, education language, mobility, and every other factor he could think of. But no matter how may variables he took into account, he kept getting the same result. Diversity damages social cohesion.

Diversity does NOT make us strong, sez Ann Coulter

I don't know about you, dear reader, but I am sick, sore and tired of having pro-diversity propaganda shoved down my throat by the lamestream media 24/7. Fifty years ago the aim of all progressive and right-thinking people was "integration". It didn't take long for people to realize that "integration" lasts from the moment the first black family moves into the neighbourhood until the last white family moves out. So, in much the same way as "global warming" morphed into "climate change", yesterday's push for integration became today's shove towards "diversity", the more the better. Because diversity makes us strong. Right? Well, I call BS on that!

"Diversity is a strength" is a big black crock of bullshit, a Big Lie of which Joseph Goebbels would be proud. That's not just my opinion, but that of Ann Coulter, expressed very forcefully in Adios America! (Regnery Publishing, 2015), which I am just now getting around to reading. [My keyboard won't make the upside-down !. Ed.] Here, by way of my strong recommendation, is an excerpt.

The companion lie to the "America is a nation of immigrants" lie is "diversity is a strength." Praising diversity is simply part of the PC dogma, a mantra constantly being pounded into our heads. Repeat after me: Diversity is a strength. Diversity is a strength. Diversity is a strength. It's like the shrieking radios permanently attached to bright people's ears in the Kurt Vonnegut story "Harrison Bergeron", to prevent them from using their superior intelligence. Contrary to everything you've heard, never in recorded history has diversity been anything but a disaster.

Look at Ireland with its Protestant and Catholic populations, Canada with its French and English populations, Israel with its Jewish and Palestinian populations. Or consider the warring factions in India, Sri Lanka, China, Iraq, Czechoslovakia (until it happily split up), the Balkans and Chechnya. Also review the festering hotbeds of tribal warfare -- I mean the "beautiful mosaic" -- in Third World disasters like Afghanistan, Rwanda, and South Central LA. If diversity is their strength, I'd hate to see what their weakness is. The fact that we have to be incessantly told how wonderful diversity is only proves that it's not....

In response to the wanton slaughter of thirteen American troops at Fort Hood by a disgruntled second-generation Muslim immigrant, Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, Army Chief of Staff General George Case went on Meet the Press and said, "Our diversity, not only in our army but in our country, is a strength." Then a few years later, after two Chechen immigrants bombed the Boston Marathon, former CIA director Michael Hayden told a Fox News Sunday panel, "We welcome these kinds of folks coming to the United States." Really? The kind that launch murderous attacks on Americans? Do people even listen to themselves when they spout these bromides, or is it just background music? Saying he was speaking "as the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency," Hayden added, "Immigration to this country contributes to our national security." The 9/11 attackes must have been fantastic for national security!

Hayden also made the strange announcement that America is "required to look like the world." Is that in the CIA charter? I know it's in the Democratic Party's platform and also in the wedding vows of John Kerry and Teresa Heinz. This wasn't some nut from the ACLU. It was a former government official -- the head of the CIA. At least it becomes less of a mystery why no one at the CIA saw 9/11 coming.

A few days later on MSNBC, Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff of California responded to Muslim immigrants' bombing the Boston Marathon by saying, "The American-Muslim community is a source of great strength to us...our strength in America has always been our diversity." Do these people have a silicone chip in their brains that makes them say that? How about a rousing chorus of: "Four legs good, two legs bad!" This is the sort of brainwashing Americans are relentlessly subjected to, day after day, from every major news outlet. The good news is, even after years of wall-to-wall propaganda, Americans still aren't sold on the idea.

A year has passsed, and the gliberals, the chattering classes and the lamestream meeja are still in denial. They're still pissing and moaning, but they can't change that fact. Nor can all their talk of impeachment change the fact that Mr Trump will remain in the White House until January of 2021, and perhaps for another four years after that!

Not that the Trump-haters aren't trying to bring his administration to a premature end. The (((liberal media))) are still churning out the fake news, counting what they say are lies and pointing the finger of scorn at the President's supposed gaffes. The latest example of their anti-Trump hysteria is the Great Koi Feeding Scandal, which turned out to be nothing of the sort.

You've probably seen the video of President Trump dumping a large quantity of fish food into a pool full of loi -- the huge goldfish beloved of east Asians -- while on a state visit to Japan. In a headline since taken down, the British newspaper The Independent raged "Trump tramples Japanese koi carp ritual". We all know you're supposed to feed goldfish slowly, and only a little bit, right? Otherwise you'll find them belly up in the water the next morning. So what POTUS did was supposed to show his disregard for the fish, the environment, and Japanese customs.

The only problem is, he was only following the lead of his host, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who had done the same thing only moments before. The whole thing was just a case of two world leaders doing a boring photo op. How did it become such a big, anti-Trump deal on all the lamestream networks? Because the so-called "journalists" and their (((masters))) wanted it so. Mr Trump may be... hell, he is the President of the USA, but the media bias against him is just as strong or stronger than it was a year ago.

The 2017 Edelman Trust Barometer reveals that trust is in crisis around the world. People's trust in all four key institutions -- business, government, NGOs, and media -- has declined broadly, and rightly so. People no longer believe that the "system" is working for them. Their societal and economic concerns -- globalization, the pace of innovation, immigration and eroding social values -- have become fears, spurring the rise of populism now playing out in the USA and other Western democracies. It's that lack of trust that doomed Hellery Clinton's campaign and got The Donald elected!

PC madness in Bloomington IN

Here's another one for our "You couldn't make this stuff up" file. The Bloomington (IN) Herald-Times reports that there will be no more Good Friday and Columbus Day holidays in Bloomington, Indiana. Really. The holy day and holiday in question will henceforth be known as "Spring Holiday" and "Fall Holiday".

Why? Because the new super-politically correct names will help make the holidays more inclusive, according to Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton. (Mayor Hamilton is unrelated to Alexander Hamilton, the subject of the eponymous Broadway musical, which also happens to be very PC.) Mayor Hamilton sent a memo to city employees this week in which he explained that the centuries-old names imply cultural insensitivity. The new names will avoid even the remotest possibility of giving offence to anyone except Christians and Italian-Americans.

In his memo, Mayor Hamilton raised to new heights the bar for "celebrating diversity" ["pandering", surely. Ed.]. "We are terrifically proud of our diverse workforce at the city," Hizzoner wrote. "That diversity makes us stronger and more representative of the public we proudly serve. These updated names for two days of well-merited time off is another way we can demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity."

Mr Hamilton's unilateral decision to rename the days will be no surprise to residents of Bloomington. Thanks to the presence in the city of that great seat of liberal learning, Indiana University, Bloomington and surrounding Monroe County are overwhelmingly populated by guilt-ridden white liberals. The county gave Hellery Clinton 58.6% the vote on November 8th, preferring her to President-elect Trump [Walt loves that phrase! Ed.] by nearly 14,000 votes.

VIDEO: Ann Coulter sez ban on Muslims won the election for Trump

On Tuesday night I found myself flipping back and forth from one lamestream channel to another, not so much to see who was winning, but to see which network would have the most biased (anti-Trump) coverage. The early leader was CBS, which could see The Donald's lead in the "battleground states" building and building, but just wouldn't, couldn't bring themselves to say so.

Their excuses for not "calling it" -- projecting a Trump win -- particularly in Florida, were actually funny. Broward and Dade counties hadn't been fully counted yet because the turn-out was so high. If the margin was 0.5% or less there would be an automatic recount. Court challenges were possible. And so on, until their hand was forced by the other networks.

The worst, though, was CBC -- the Clinton Broadcasting Corporation. Well OK, really the Canadian Broadcorping Castration, which started coverage on its main network a bit late, at 9 P.M. Eastern Time. Their anchor was the venerable Peter Mansbridge, who is regarded by Canadians much as Walter Cronkite used to be by Americans. Peter's the kindly old uncle who tucks you into bed at night with a nice, warm, progressive fairy tale at the end of which the liberals triumph and everyone lives happily ever after.

On November 8th-9th, the liberal dream of eight more years of Democratic rule turned into a nightmare for the CBC's crew of Clinton shills disguised as reporters. Peter was ashen. The smug and condescending Keith Boag actually stuttered. The ever-PC "At Issue" panel had the night off. (I look forward to their "I knew it all along" routine tonight.) To replace them, CBC rang in David Frum, and for balance (LOL) a white liberal woman plus a black lesbian feminist American. Mr Frum didn't gloat. He didn't have to. He just sat there and watched the black gal get crazier and crazier, to the point where the producers wisely cut to something else.

By Wednesday night, Peter had recovered his composure and rehearsed his part of the how-come-we-missed-it routine which will be heard on all networks, American and foreign, for the next year or so. You'll get a taste of it in his interview on The National last night with well-known (even in Canada) American writer and commentator Ann Coulter. She was one of the first credible voices to say "You should have listened to me. I told you so!" She predicted a Trump victory early on, and credited the win to his ability to tap into voters' "pent-up rage for both political parties, mostly over the issue of immigration."

"There are lots of people who do not live in the United States -- billions, I believe. None of them have a constitutional right to move to America," said Ms Coulter. "We've been thinking about the poor illegal aliens and the poor Muslim refugees who aren't living in this country already, but what about the people already here? Immigration is just a government policy like any other government policy, but it's the only one that politicians, and the media, don't even think about saying, 'This should be designed to help the people who are already here.'"

Americans too sensitive about race (etc) sez Supreme Court justice

In her extended rant against reverse racism, Mugged -- reviewed here a few days ago -- Ann Coulter makes mention (several times) of US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

Ms Coulter implies that Justice Thomas is a credit to his race. (He is black.) She didn't actually use that "racist" cliché, but does point out that the judge didn't get his position on the highest court in America because of some affirmative action programme.

Justice Thomas himself had something to say on Tuesday about America's preoccupation with race. He told a gathering of students at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida that Americans today are too sensitive about race. Justice Thomas, the second "person of colour" to serve on the Supreme Court bench, lamented what he considers a society that is more conscious of racial differences than it was when he grew up in segregated Georgia in the days before and during the civil rights era.

"My sadness is that we are probably today more race and difference-conscious than I was in the 1960s when I went to school. To my knowledge, I was the first black kid in Savannah, Georgia, to go to a white school. Rarely did the issue of race come up," said the judge. "Now, name a day it doesn’t come up. Differences in race, differences in sex, somebody doesn’t look at you right, somebody says something. Everybody is sensitive. If I had been as sensitive as that in the 1960s, I’d still be in Savannah. Every person in this room has endured a slight. Every person. Somebody has said something that has hurt their feelings or did something to them — left them out."

In his autobiography, My Granfather's Son: A Memoir, Justice Thomas recalled his rocky confirmation being worse than his childhood growing up under segregation, writing, "my worst fears had come to pass not in Georgia, but in Washington, D.C., where I was being pursued not by bigots in white robes but by left-wing zealots draped in flowing sanctimony."

Book review: Ann Coulter explains racism and reverse racism

Reader's of Walt's previous post (on Bill O'Reilly's interview with President Obama) will gather (correctly) that I've been reading Mugged: Racial Demagoguery from the Seventies to Obama (Sentinel, 2012) by best-selling author and conservative darling Ann Coulter. I give it my highest recommendation, but warn those of a conservative and/or libertarian who suffer from high blood pressure to take a chill pill before reading.

Of her book, Ms Coulter says "This isn't a story about black people -- it's a story about the Left's agenda to patronize blacks and lie to everyone else." She writes a fearless and politically incorrect history of race relations in America to demonstrate how guilty white liberals twist that history to accuse the innocent (the Tawana Brawley case), acquit the guilty (O.J. Simpson) and foment racial hatred (Al Sharpton) -- all in order to win politically. And win they have, getting Al O'Bama not just elected but -- in spite of a demonstrably poor record -- re-elected!

Spoiler alert! - Walt tries to avoid posting lengthy quotes from any article or book he recommends, but the conclusion of Mugged is so pithy and substantial that I'm going to defy Ed. and give you the last page, in its entirety. The summary topic is white guilt.

White guilt has never produced anything but catastrophe.

White guilt fuelled the liberal crime policies that resulted in tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of murders, to say nothing of maimings, burnings and rapes. White guilt got us huge tower blocks of public housing that are fortresses of social pathology. It produced the entire entitlement-dominated politics we have now.

It's led the nation to turn a blind eye to the ticking time bomb of exploding illegitimacy rates.

It got an acquittal for OJ as a result of the trial being moved to a venue that would produce more black jurors than the courthouse in the jurisdiction where the crime occurred.

It produced a destructive welfare state that was untouchable for decades. It got us anxiety, anger, fear and a major political party incapable of making an argument more sophisticated than: "You racist!"

And it got us the most left-wing president America has ever seen.

When there were so few cases of white-on-black hate crimes that liberals had to start making them up, wasn't that a clue that the Klan wasn't preventing black progress any more? If white people could be shorn of all racism overnight, it's not clear how that would improve the black condition.

On the other hand, if all black people woke up tomorrow morning with the cultural predilections of Korean Americans, all sociological disparities -- income, crime rates, out-of-wedlock births -- would vanish within ten years. Both thought experiments are unfair, but one at least has a practical resonance to it.

As Shelby Steele has said: "Whites don't think they have the moral authority to ask anything of black people, certainly not to judge them. But there's something wrong with people who have a 70-percent illegitimacy rate. This is a group of people who are lost. But we are surrounded by whites who refuse to tell us that."

The national obsession with racism is a self-inflicted punishment that has resulted in disaster, for everyone, but most of all for black people. VIDEO: Bill O'Reilly puts President O on defensive in pre-Super Bowl interview

William James "Bill" O'Reilly, Jr. hosts the popular political commentary programme The O'Reilly Factor, which airs on the Fox News Channel. Although registered as an "independent", Bill is usually characterized as a "conservative". Let's just call him someone who prefers to think for himself rather than swallow the liberal Kool-Aid*.

Mr. O'Reilly's common-sensical turn of mind makes him feared and disliked by the lamestream media and the liberal elites...all the way to the head liberal, President Obama. You don't believe me? Check out his interview with the Prez which aired just this afternoon ahead of the Super Bowl, now in progress.

According to Erik Wemple's Washington Post blog, Bill aced this one, forcing the President to become not just defensive but downright testy on the Obamacare mess, snooping by the IRS, and the attempted cover-up of Muslim terrorist attack at Benghazi.

Sez Mr. Wemple "If nothing else, [O'Reilly] delivered on his commitment to Super Bowl Sunday, heading up an interview with a high entertainment quotient." Here it is.

Footnote: One of the liberals who truly despises Bill O'Reilly is Keith Olbermann, who Wikipedia describes as "a sports and political commentator"...in that order. Mr. Olbermann's dislike of Mr. O'Reilly is over matters of principle, of course. The fact that Mr. O used to have a show on MSNBC competing directly with Mr. O'R had nothing to do with the animosity.
