EU-elites panic as rightist coalitions win Italian and Swedish elections

As predicted (or hoped for) here last Bastille Day, the center-right coalition led by Giorgia Meloni won a parliamentary majority in Italy's general elections, held yesterday. Her Fratelli d'Italia (Brothers of Italy) party received about 26% of the votes counted so far. 

Matteo Salvini's far-right League and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right Forza Italia, allied with the FDI, now control both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, with around 44% of the vote. Ms Meloni should thus become Italy's first female prime minister, heading the country's most right-wing government since WWII. 

Italian and European politicians are already crying foul. Shortly after conceding defeat, a senior memeber of the Democratic Party told the meeja "This is a sad evening for the country," adding that "[The right] has the majority in parliament, but not in the country." That seems a rather strange statement considering the result, but is consistent with the alarms raised by the Euro-weenies during the run-up to the election, when Ms Meloni was called the "new Mussolini", and worse.

Speaking early this morning, Ms Meloni said Italians had sent "a clear message" in backing her alliance. "If we are called upon to govern this nation, we will do so for all Italians, with the aim of uniting the people, of exalting what unites them rather than what divides them," she told reporters. "We will not betray your trust."  

In the 2018 election, the FdI garnered just over 4% of the vote. The party's rise to first place in the polls, at 26%, is attributable to Ms Meloni's clear and unapologetic stand in favour of conservative, pro-Western/anti-NWO principles, outlined in a barn-burner of a speech to Spain's far-right Vox party. 

"Yes to the natural family, no to the LGBT lobby, yes to sexual identity, no to gender ideology... no to Islamist violence, yes to secure borders, no to mass migration... no to big international finance... no to the bureaucrats of Brussels!" No wonder the lefties and one-worlders are afraid. 

Earlier this month, the people of Sweden, always held up as a shining example by the progressive one-worlders, throw out the Social Democrats, who had been in power forever, in national elections on September 11th. 

A right-wing group of parties, led by the centre-right Moderates, will have a go at forming the country's next government after the leftist Social Democrats failed to achieve a majority in the Riksdag.

Among the so-called "blue block" is the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats, once shunned by the liberal political establishment, who recorded their best-ever election result with 20.5% of the vote, and thus will have great influence over the policies of the new coalition government. They campaigned on law-and-order issues following a rise in gun violence, and vowed to bring in longer prison sentences and reduce immigration. 

The election results in Sweden and Italy show the power of the resurgent right to harness the disaffection and Weltschmerz of the people of Europe. The chief reason for the victories of rightist parties is anti-immigration backlash. 

Europeans -- white Europeans, Christian Europans -- are sick, sore and tired of seeing their countries overrun by hordes of immigrants (especially "refugees" and asylum-seekers) who not only refuse to be assimilated into Western society, but are undermining Christian civilization to achieve the victory of Islam.

And they are fed up with the constant pandering to minorities by liberal politicians and churchmen (Hello, Francis!) intent on leading us into an anti-national, anti-Christian, New World Order, in which we will be dictated to by the World Economic Forum and the United Nations. "One nation under God" will be replaced by "One world under _______ (fill in the blank for yourself". 

Walt congratulates the Sweden Democrats and Fratelli d'Italia on their victories, and hopes they prove to be turning points for Italy and Sweden, as well as portents of things to come for the UK, Germany, France, and -- dare we say it -- America and Canada!

2nd in 2 weeks! Brazil consecrated to Immaculate Heart of Mary

Incredible! For the second time in a week, a nominally Catholic nation has been consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, on the initiative of a conservative political leader. Just yesterday, Walt was pleaed to report that Matteo Salvini, Italy's Deputy Premier, dedicated his country to the Immaculate Heart on May 18th, at a rally in Milan. See "Salvini commends Italy to the Blessed Virgin Mary - Pope displeased", WWW 24/5/19.

Sig. Salvini was criticized by hierarchs of the Church (Hello, Cardinal Parolin!) for his fervent expression of faith. At the rally, the crowd of 1000s responded with jeers and catcalls to the mention of the name of the alleged Pope. Francis has reportedly refused to meet the Italian leader because of the latter's policy of stopping by invasion of Italy by hordes of "refugees" and asylum-seekers.

Hard on the heels of last weeks week's stunning news comes this report from Planalto, the website of the Presidency of Brazil, that on Tuesday last, that country was consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in a ceremony that included President Jair Bolsonaro and Bishop Fernando Areas Rifan.

The consecration was an initiative of national deputy Eros Biondini and Brazil's Catholic Parliamentary Front in reparation for sin and to ask for divine protection. Said Senhor Biondini, “We are doing this for Brazil, for our love for our nation." A statue of Our Lady of Fatima, revered in Brazil, which has more Catholics than any other country, graced the ceremony and will remain in a place of honour in the presidential palace.

Signing the proclamation of national consecration were President Bolsonaro, cabinet minister Floriano Peixoto, and Sr Biondini. The other signatories were Bishop Areas and Bishop Emeritus João Evangelista Martins Terra of Brasilia, the nation's capital. During the ceremony, participants prayed the Rosary and sang a Marian hymn, accompanied by a number of nuns.

Bishop Areas leads the Personal Apostolic Administration of St. Jean Marie Vianney, devoted exclusively to celebrating the pre-1965 Roman rite of the Mass. The prelate said that consecrating his country to the Immaculate Heart means that "Brazil recognizes the presence of God." Pro-life advocates, among them a priest, displayed banners emblazoned with the motto "Brazil is alive: no abortion.”

Sr Peixoto thanked President Bolsonaro for his participation in the event, saying, "This space and all our public buildings are places in which the Christian faith is professed.... May God illuminate everyone so that we can achieve our goals of lifting up fellow citizens and bringing to our children, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and cousins, a better and more just condition for everyone."

Salvini commends Italy to the Blessed Virgin Mary - Pope displeased

On Tuesday, Walt told you about Italian Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini's speech on May 19th at a rally of populist leaders in Milan, in which he decried unchecked migration, pledging to close Europe's borders to migrants. He also attacked Islam, saying it mistreats women. He said Turkey would never be a part of Europe and rejected the label of extremists for the leaders with him.

"In this piazza, there are no extremists," said Sig. Salvini. "There are no racists. There are no fascists. If anything in Italy and in Europe, the difference is between who looks ahead, between who speaks of the future...instead of making trials of the past." The "piazza" to which he referred was the huge square in front of Milan's Duomo cathedral, in which 10s of 1000s had gathered to support the right-wing populist parties contesting the European Parliament elections, which are under way at this very moment.

In my earlier report, I concentrated on politics, but the fact is that the struggle to keep Europe European -- so to speak -- is not just political but religious, for European values, the values of civilization, are Christian values, and are under attack by both Islamists and secular humanists. Make no mistake! Europe is, at this very moment, a key battleground in the war against Christianity!

Sig. Salvini did not neglect to mention the religious struggle, and we are indebted to LifeSite News for reporting on this aspect of last Saturday's rally. In "Vatican leaders outraged as anti-immigration politician commends Italy to Mary", LS reveals that Sig. Salvini kissed a rosary as he commended his country, Italy, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to the cheers of the crowd.

He also appealed to the patron saints of Europe: Sts. Benedict of Norcia, Brigid of Sweden, Catherine of Siena, Cyril and Methodius. And he said, "I entrust Italy, my life, and your lives to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, who I'm sure will bring us to victory."

You would have thought that the leader of the world's billion-plus Catholics, the man who calls himself "pope" and professes his devotion to the Blessed Virgin, would applaud the Deputy Premier's action. You would be wrong. Francis (whose name was greeted with boos and catcalls) immediately sent out his henchmen to denounce Sig. Salvini's action.

Among them was the Jesuit editor Antonio Spadaro, a close confidant of Pope Bergoglio. Fr Spadaro is notorious among true Catholics for opposing an Italian law mandating that crucifixes be placed in all Italian public buildings. Further rebukes were added by the President of the European Bishops' Conference, and the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin (aka The Man Who Would Be Pope - see "'Peter the Roman' ready to take over from Pope Francis", WWW 14/1/18).

Dear Catholic readers, the teaching of the true Catholic Church is: De Maria nunquam satis (Of Mary, never enough). Those like Pope Bergoglio and his Modernist acolytes and sycophants place themselves outside the True Faith on this as on so many other teachings. It is the Pope (if such he be) himself who should be publicly calling upon the Blessed Virgin Mary to turn him and his Modernist minions away from their heresies and back to the Catholic Faith. For that, let us pray.

One-worlders quake with fear as nationalists win elections everywhere

George Soros, his puppets and minions, are much disturbed this week by results (actual and anticipated) of elections in India, Australia and the European Union. Around the world, nationalism -- not "white nationalism", but nationalism pure and simple -- is on the rise, along with anti-immigrant backlash and pushback against the globalists' one world, "new world order" agenda.

In India, the world's largest democracy (TM), exit polls suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on course to win the general election which has been in progress for the last two months. The official results will be announced on Thursday, but expectations are that the BJP will emerge even stronger than after its 2014 landslide, with a majority in the Lok Sabha (lower house of parliament) a possibility.

Why does this bother the gliberals? Who cares what happens in India? To find the answer, look up "Hindutva" in the dictionary. It means "Hinduness", thus "Hindu nationalism", not "Indian nationalism". (There can be no such thing as "nationalism" in a state with such a diversity of languages, races and religions!) For Mr Modi and his people (Walt uses the term advisedly) it's not "India first!" but "HINDUS first!", to the exclusion of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and even Sikhs. The spectre of more sectarian strife, and even another shooting war with Muslim Pakistan, looms. The prospects for peaceful coexistence in south Asia are just about nil.

Meanwhile, a couple of thousand miles to the southeast, Australia's ruling conservative coalition won a "miracle" victory in last week's general election, stunning Antipodean pollsters, the (((controlled media))) and the opposition Labour party, which, like Hellery Clinton's Democrats, had been seen as certain to win. Apparently Aussie voters didn't buy into Labour's progressive plans to fight climate change and "inequality".

And there was the immigration issue, which proved to be a ballot question for the "quiet Australians" who fear being called "racist" but fear even more Labour's proposed "humanitarian" relaxation of strict border controls which have kept boatloads of bogus refugees on islands off the Australian coast. The Financial Times quotes Duncan McDonnell, a professor of politics at Griffith University in Queensland, as saying, "The heart of Australian politics beats on the right. It's a conservative country and I think there was a trend in this election in which voters asked 'if it isn't broke, why fix it?'"

And now we come to Europe, where opinion polls show populist forces set to make major gains in the European Parliament election to be held later this week. All of Europe's mainstream, pro-EU political alliances are expected to lose seats, with the big winners likely to be the Europe of Nations and Freedom group, anchored by Matteo Salvini's League in Italy and Marine Le Pen's National Rally in France.

Take note of the name "Europe of Nations and Freedom". The group rejects absolute the idea of a "post-national" Europe run by a supra-national government at Brussels which would have the power to override the wishes of the different peoples of the different nations which comprise the EU. As the sign says, their ideas of "power to the people" and "a Europe of free nations" are spreading everywhere in Europe.

Last Saturday, Matteo Salvini led a rally of right-wing populist leaders in Milan, as they campaign for the transformation of European politics. Sig. Salvini, Minister of the Interior and head of the League party, is at the forefront of a growing movement of nationalist leaders seeking to free the 28 nations of the EU from what he calls the "illegal occupation" of Brussels.

Sig. Salvini was joined by ten other nationalist leaders, including Marine Le Pen of France’s National Rally and Joerg Meuthen of the Alternativ für Deutschland. The event was a major tour de force for the expanding movement ahead of the vote that will take place in all 28 EU nations on May 23rd-26th.

VIDEO: Populism marches on! Today, Spain! Where next?

For months now, Walt has been reporting on the rise of parties of the "populist right". (There are so many terms in use now -- conservative, neo-conservative, libertarian, right-wing, alt-right etc -- that I'm trying for one phrase which encompasses all the groups and movements whose goal is to overturn the socialistic, politically correct, one-world orthodoxy of the liberal elites, so "populist right" it shall be, at least here on WWW.

Spurred on by the success of the Brexit referendum and the election of President Donald Trump -- still going strong half-way through his first term -- parties that represent the real people who have been the silent majority in Europe and North America have won several sub-national and national elections, and are poised to take power soon in such bastions of liberalism as Germany (Goodbye, Angela Merkel!) and Canada (Good riddance, Justin Trudeau!)

Which brings us to Spain. [What?! Ed.] Yes, you heard right, friends. It wasn't so long ago that Deutsche Welle, the official German broadcaster, featured a story headed "Spain proves sterile ground for far-right parties". I love it when analyses such as that come back to bite the writer in the bum, and that's what happened in the Spanish province of Andalusia this weekend, when the populist right Vox party made huge gains in the provincial election.

In a result which the same Deutsche Welle says "has shaken Spain's political foundations", Vox won 12 seats (out of 109) in the elections, marking the first time they've made it into a Spanish parliament.



Political scientist Eduard Güell, the "unbiased" political scientist quoted by DW, says the fact that it happened in Andalusia, which has been ruled by a social democratic party since 1982, was all the more surprising.Until now, it seemed that Spain was somehow immune to the electoral rise of the populist right, like Germany's Alternative für Deutschland, Italy's League and many others. Why did Vox win bigly? An anonymous voter told Deutsche Welle's reporter, "[Vox] are the ones who have prioritized the defence of our homeland." Right! Defence of the homeland. Defence against what or who? The foreign invaders, possibly? [What? Who? Ed.] Do I have to name them? In the video you'll hear them called "migrants". What is meant is... wait for it... Muslim "refugees" and asylum-seekers. See "Saint James Matamoros, Spain needs you again!", WWW 29/7/18. Includes video on how Saint James the Great came to be called "Matamoros".

What does this mean for the future of Spain, and of Europe? Prof Güell concedes that most polls predict that Vox will make similar gains at the national level. "All signs indicate that Vox has come to stay," told DW. In his opinion, "one cannot understand how the far right has erupted in Spain without understanding the European and international perspective and how these populist far-right parties communicate and feed off each other."

Why so? Because -- this is Walt talking now -- border security and keeping out those who would replace our culture and way of life with their alien laws and ideology is the chief concern of the majority of "real people" in every country of Europe and North America! It is no surprise to me that the populist right is on the rise. The only question is whether we, the people, will rise up soon enough and strong enough to save our civilization.

"You disagree with our liberal ideology? You must be insane!"

Speaking of rightist parties led by good-looking women (see below)... there was a disturbing item on the mojo wire a couple of days ago. Seems that Marine Le Pen, the leader of France's Rassemblement National (formerly Front National) has been ordered by magistrates in Nanterre to "undergo a psychiatric examination".

WHY? It's all part of an exercise in political correctness, the mainstream parties' vendetta against her for daring to challenge the liberal orthodoxy which refuses to acknowledge the intrinsic evil of Islamic extremism, as espoused and practised by the Islamic State.

In December of 2015, Mme Le Pen tweeted three pictures of killings carried out by ISIS terrorists, accompanied by the text "Daesh [Arabic term for ISIS] is THIS!" One of the pictures showed the body of James Foley, whom the Muslim extremists beheaded in August 2014.

Mme Le Pen posted the graphic images, since deleted, in response to journalist Jean-Jacques Bourdin, who had compared her nationalist rhetoric to that of the Islamic terrorist group. Speaking to French meeja earlier this year, she said that she is being charged for having "condemned the horrors of Daesh." For that, she said, "the 'justice system' has referred [me] to a psychiatric assessment. How far will they go?!"

That's a good question. A number of politicians have lambasted the magistrates' decision. Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, took to Twitter to express support for the French politician. "A court orders a psychiatric assessment for Marine Le Pen. Words fail me!", he wrote. "Solidarity with her and with the French who love freedom!"

Gilbert Collard, a member of the National Assembly called the order "the psychiatrization of political opinion." And so it is. It comes down to this: Our liberal policies are reasonable and progressive. You disagree with our policies. Therefore you must be insane. Right out of the Soviet and Chinese Communist textbooks on the stifling of dissent.

If you think that equating dissent with insanity isn't part of the liberals' grand strategy, consider the title of Matt Taibbi's recent book, Insane Clown President. Good book, but that's not the point. My point is that if the expression of politically incorrect, "anti-progressive" views can be labelled as a symptom of mental illness, none of us is safe from having our wigs picked by people who are themselves teetering on the brink.

What happens then? No psychiatrist worth his or her $200/hour ever found a subject who didn't need "help". Next thing you know... One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest! And, as the movie (one of my favourites) shows, once you're in the clutches of the "mental health system", you don't get out unless and until those who control the system are good and ready. Mark my words, dear readers. I know whereof I speak.

UPDATED: Spain takes "refugees" Italy refused, with predictable results

In mid-June, the new Italian government, elected on an anti-immigrant platform, put its foot down and refusesd to allow a boatload of bogus "refugees" -- economic migrants, really -- to dump its cargo of mostly black, mostly Muslim third-worlders on Italian shores. See "New Italian government turns back boatload of 'refugees'", WWW 11/6/18. "Enough is enough!" said Interior Minister Matteo Salvini. "Saving lives is a duty, but transforming Italy into an enormous refugee camp isn't. We're closing the ports!"

After much hand-wringing and tut-tutting by the EU, the Vatican and the usual gang of SJWs, Spain finally agreed to take the 269 "refugees", but only temporarily of course, since they expected the itinerant welfare-seekers to move on to places which offered more generous benefits. Like Sweden, or Britain, or Angela Merkel's Germany, where Willkommenskultur reigns supreme, in spite of the feelings of the German people.

So Spain took them. And guess what? The word got out! "Hey, fellow asylum-seekers! Set your boats of a northwest course. Spain is the new Canada!" Surprise, surprise for the Spaniards, and not a pleasant one either. This weekend Spain's coastguard union warned that the service was "completely overwhelmed" by a dramatic rise in the number of migrant crossings. The "extraordinary upturn" in arrivals meant "an absolute overflow of work" for maritime rescue centres, the union said, issuing an urgent call for more resources to help it cope with the "massive arrival of immigrants" on the country's shores.

On Friday morning alone, the Spanish coastguard pulled 627 people from 35 rafts in the Strait of Gibraltar yesterday morning, bringing arrivals to more than 2000 this week. Dozens more were also picked up in Murcia, Majorca and Alicante. By an accident of history, Spain still owns two tiny enclaves on the coast of north Africa. On Thursday, more than 600 border-jumpers forced their way through the border fence at one of them -- Ceuta. The unions representing the Spanish Civil guard called the incursions "well-planned" and "of unprecedented violence".

In the Spanish province of Andalusia, authorities are sounding the alarm over the surge in arrivals, noting that reception centres are saturated and migrants being forced to sleep in converted sports halls, on boats and in one case on a police station patio. Spain is now the largest gateway for migrants crossing the Mediterranean to Europe, with 20,992 people having landed so far this year. That's 3000 more, now, than have landed in Italy in the same time period. A week earlier the difference was about 200.

The Spanish government blames the increase on the crackdown on the Mediterranean route from Libya to Italy. The fact that, like Canada's gaga Prime Minister Trudeau, they rolled out the welcome mat for "refugees" who now turn out to be not so welcome, had nothing to do with the crisis.

Guess who opposes display of crucifixes in Italian public buildings?

As any fan of Dracula, Twilight or other films about vampires knows, the mere sight of a crucifix, or even a simple cross, will scare off vampires and other beings from the nether regions. It probably works on Muslims too. As reported here in April, Markus Söder, Bavaria's newly sworn-in state premier, ordered that, effective June 1st, Christian crosses must be hung in all government buildings in the southern German state, as an "avowal of Bavarian identity and Christian values." The usual gang of secular humanists and anti-Christian SJWs reacted accordingly, but lo, it was done.

Now the newly-formed populist government of Italy has tabled similar legislation. When passed, the law will require a crucifix to be displayed in all public spaces and institutions, including ports (where "refugees" and asylum-seekers will land) and universities. Violators will be fined up to 1000 euros. The policy, if not the law itself, is not new. It has been challenged before, by the usual gang of etc etc, who were dismayed when, in 2011, the European Court of Justice ruled in favour of the policy. Sounds to me like a good idea to remind citizens and migrants alike that Italy is (in theory at least) a Christian country.

There are, of course, many who disagree. One of the leaders of the usual gang is none other than the Holy Father, Pope Francis, currently bidding for instant sainthood the moment he shuffles off this mortal coil by pandering to the Muslims, the Jews, the Protestants and just about everyone except traditional Catholics.

It will be remembered that Francis was a Jesuit. When Pope Bergoglio wishes to say something, yet not say it, he plays Edgar Bergen to the Charlie McCarthy of (on this occasion) Rev. Antonio Spadaro, S.J., editor of the Jesuit magazine Civilta Cattolica.

Father Spadaro, often described as a "key adviser" to Pope Francis [Maybe Spadaro is Bergen? Ed.], has criticized the proposed legislation, saying that "if you remove the [religious] symbolism from the crucifix...it becomes a parody." He did not explain exactly how displaying a crucifix outside a church removes its religious symbolism. That was left as unclear as, errr, a typical Franciscan pronouncement.

Another so-called Catholic magazine, Famiglia Cristiana, this week published an issue featuring a cover shot of Interior Minister Matteo Salvini and the warning "Retreat, Salvini!" (That was written in Latin, very unusual for a progressive Catholic publication.) Sgr Salvini said the magazine cover was in bad taste, telling the ANSA news agency, "I'm the last among good Christians, but I don't think I deserve this."

The latest attack on Sgr Salvini underscores the growing divide between the Catholic hierarchy and the faithful laypeople. While a number of prelates have publicly voiced opposition to the new government’s attempts to rein in rampant illegal migration, polls indicate that Sgr Salvini is the most trusted politician in the country, and his immigration policy has garnered broad support.

New Italian government turns back boatload of "refugees"

Firmness is all it takes! Italy's new government, elected in a surge of anti-immigrant backlash, has kept its promise -- imagine that! -- to close the ports through which hundreds of thousands of Muslim "refugees" and asylum-seekers from north Africa and the Middle East have overrun the country. This weekend, Interior Minister Matteo Salvini tweeted

Putting it bluntly (and in English), he said, "Enough is enough! Saving lives is a duty, but transforming Italy into an enormous refugee camp isn't. We're closing the ports!"

Following up those words with action, Italy as well as neighbouring Malta refused today to let a rescue ship, the MV Aquarius, dock in their ports, leaving 269 "refugees" stranded at sea.

Sgr Salvini and his party, the League, campaigned on an anti-immigrant platform that also included a vow to expel hundreds of thousands of migrants already in Italy. For its part, Malta has consistently refused to take in migrants, citing its small size and limited capacities. Over the past decade, the tiny island nation has reduced the number of migrants it has taken in, from a high of 2775 in 2008 to just 23 last year. All it takes is firmness.

Sgr Salvini pointed to Malta's example when he accused the rest of western Europe of leaving Italy to deal with the "refugee" crisis on its own. He noted that other European countries are very much involved in current rescue operations in the Mediterranean, but no country is stepping up to actually take in the migrants. "Italy has stopped bowing our heads and obeying," he said in a Facebook post. "This time we say no!"

UPDATE: Word just reached us on the mojo wire that the socialist government of Spain has decided to welcome this boatload of... words fail me. More fools they (the Spaniards).

Told ya! Anti-immigrant backlash pushes Italy sharply right

Bunga bunga! As Walt predicted in "Italian top court OKs Fascist salute as right-wing coalition heads for election victory" (WWW 24/2/18), Italian voters turned sharply to the right in yesterday's parliamentary election. Lifetime pct .991!

Latest results show the anti-establishment Five Star Movement as the biggest party. With strong support in the south of the country, they garnered 32.3% of the vote. But former Prime Minister Silvio Berluscone's coalition of centre-right and far-right parties is set to win most seats in the lower house of the Italian parliament.

Matteo Salvini, leader of the League (formerly the Northern League), declared that, with 17.6% of the vote, his party had the "right and duty" to govern at the head of a right-wing coalition. Mr Berlusconi's Forza Italia got 14%, and the far right Brothers of Italy received a smaller share.

Italy is now in for another coalition government, but this time it will be coalition of the centre right, not the centre left. But who will lead? The joker in the deck is the Five Star Movement, which did not join Mr Berlusconi's coalition in the election campaign. If they are going to be part of the coalition government, it would seem logical for their leader, Luigi Di Maio, to get a high position. But at only 31 years of age, the political neophyte is seen to lack the experience and gravitas for the role of prime minister.

The Clinton News Network never says "the League". They always call the party "the xenophobic League". During the campaign, Mr Salvini spoke about the danger of Islam, and promised to deport hundreds of thousands of "refugees" and other migrants. And that's why Italians voted for his part and the other putative members of the new coalition. Italians are xenophobic. And they don't like foreigners very much, either. Who can blame them?!
