Speaking of Kansas, Bishop James Johnston of Kansas City has joined Bishop Thomas Paprocki in enthusiastically supporting Harrison Butker’s clarion call for bishops to "man up" and start behaving like Catholic bishops again. 

Mr Butker blasted the bishops for closing the churches during Covid and, what do you know, several bishops just seconded the motion. Go figure! 

So, with the EU elections scoring big wins for Europe’s populist/nationalist parties – a stinging indictment of Pope Francis the Globalist – is this Reign of Terror finally running out of steam? Francis seems desperate. A case in point: With the world teetering on the edge of war, Pope Francis is putting his paranoia on full display by ordering Archbishop Vigano to come to Rome to face charges of schism. 

Yes, you read that right! He’s not trying to excommunicate MISTER Ted McCarrick – one of the worst sexual predators in Church history. Nope! Francis is going after the whistle blower. You just can’t make this stuff up! 

And, finally, with nothing better to do, the obsessed (with traditional Catholics) pontiff finds himself at the center of swirling rumors that claim Team Francis is about to launch a "Final Solution" to permanently ban the Latin Mass. Is there anything to the rumors, and what’s really behind this Vatican witch hunt?

USA, Canada no longer in Human Development Index top 10

There was a time, way back in the 20th century, when the US of A and Canada ranked in the top 10 countries on the United Nations Human Deveopment Index. In fact, for something like five years in a row, Canada was No. 1 [Wut? Ed.] with the US around No. 5. Citizens (word chosen with care) of North America (excluding Mexico) were healthier, wealthier, and better-educated than those of any other region.

Sadly, those days are gone forever. Since the triumph of "liberal progressivism", North American standards of living have fallen below those of northern Europe. 

It's true that the HDI for the whole world have declined, particularly since 2020, due to Covid, climate hysteria, the greenscam and other factors. However, the Europeans are recovering, whereas under the terminally woke governments in Washington and Ottawa, things just get worse and worse.

The Human Development Index is one of the most widely used measures of countries' development. It gauges progress in terms of societal outcomes, including life expectancy at birth, expected and average years of schooling and gross national income per person. The latest figures, released yesterday, show that the global HDI is rising again, but progress has been slow and uneven. 

The countries shown in darkest squa are those which score highest on the HDI. The Economist has published a table showing how the 194 countries tracked by the UN compare. The left column shows the HDI score (1.00 would be perfect). The middle column shows life expectancy at birth. The right column shows expected years of schooling. We don't have room to show the whole table or even the top 20 countries, so have excerpted just Nos. 16 through 22.

Embarrassing, isn't? [Not to Brandon or Blackiie McBlackface, evidently. Ed.] The country with the highest Human Development Index, for the second year in a row, is... wait for it... Switzerland! Cue cries of "They're Number One! They're Number One!"

The Swiss score is boosted by high incomes and long life expectancies. Other countries in western Europe have some of the highest scores. Some parts of Asia also do well, with Hong Kong and Singapore making it to the top ten. 

Elsewhere on Turtle Island -- especially in South America, the Middle East and Africa -- things are worse. Countries such as Peru, Colombia, Libya and Lebanon have made little progress since the global HDI started to fall in 2019. Living standards in Ukraine (100th) and Russia have also dropped. War-torn Yemen, poor and indebted Belize, and Micronesia, an island country at risk of being swallowed by rising sea levels, all peaked in 2010 and have declined every year since. Here are the Bottom 10.

Walt notes that 9 of the bottom 10 are in sub-Saharan Africa. The 10th is Yemen, at the south end of the Arabian peninsula, where a Muslim civil war has been going on for years. That's where the Houthis come from. Have you heard that name recently?

We return now [Quickly, please. Ed.] to the Excited States of America, which is fighting its own cultural and political civil wars. The War on Poverty, however, is over. We lost! Here's how the American HDI looks, county by country.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 46.2 million American people were living in poverty in 2010, and the poverty rate reached 15.1%, the highest in 52 years. In 2020, the year in which Senile Joe was (allegedly) elected, the poverty rate climbed by 0.9 percentage points to 11.4% from 10.5% in 2019. Do you really think that, as Joe claims, things have gotten better since then? Really?! 

Ask yourself: What would it take to get the US of A back into the Top 10 on the Human Development Index? How can we Make America Great Again? Well, there's your answer... right there!

* The travails of Team Francis. Apparently the minions who arranged the Pope’s Abu Dhabi dialogue with the Grand Imam of al-Azhar didn't know the latter is an enthusiastic supporter of... wait for it... Hamas!

To return to my opening paragraph, Mr Matt says (and yr obdt servant agrees!) that all this is good news, for thes latest acts in the comedy of errors and nonsense portends the demise of the New World Order and New World Religion (the "Church of Francis") being promoted by Messrs Soros, Schwab and Bergoglio. 

These are the last acts of desperate (and desperately misguided) men, facing the decline and fall of their Brave New World. They've overstayed their welcome and overplayed their hand. All that is needed to consign them to the ash-heap of history is for us -- lovers of tradition, freedom, and Christian civilzation -- keep resisting the secular humanist overlords to their faces.

Things have been pretty intense for the last month or so. I think you, dear readers, deserve a break. Me too. So here are a couple of items from the slushpile, and a video that will make any parent chuckle. 

Bet Ya Didn't Know Dept.

Catherine II, aka Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia in the18th century, was not Russian! She was born in 1729 in the tiny German principality of Anhalt-Zerbst [commonly known as "A-Z". Ed.], Her father was Prince Christian of A-Z, and she was baptized Sophia Augusta Frederica. Her parents and friends called her "Fiekchen", a diminutive of "Sophia". I guess you have to speak German to understand that.

When she was taken to Russia as the wife of the future Tsar Peter III, she converted from heretical Lutheranism and was admitted to the Orthodox Church, and took the name Catherine Alexeievna. How about that.

Pandemic Madness Dept.

The Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center reports that at this very moment 6,035,208 of the world's people have died of the Wuhan flu. That's slightly more than 6 million of a world population of roughly 7.9  billion. Thus the mortality rate from the New Black Death is... let's see... carry the 1... something like 0.0756%. 

In other words [figures, shurely. Ed.] <1/10th of 1%. The mortality rate from the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918-19 is estimated to have been 2%. Do you still think we're wrong to call the current "crisis" a "Dempanic"?

By the way, did you get all three (and counting) of your shots? Are you still wearing your mask, or "chin diaper" as our friend Michael Matt calls them? How has all that worked out for you? Did you get sick anyway? Just askin'

TV Wokeness Dept.

Has anyone else noticed that Family Guy has become really lame, to the point of wokeness, lately?  The main plot line this past Sunday was about Peter Griffin losing his friends to a lawyer who moved in next door. Peter felt abandoned and sad, until the lawyer made him see that Quagmire, Cleveland and Joe were still his friends, and they all lived happily ever after. The lawyer, by the way, was black. ("Helloo dere. I'se yo new neighbuh!")

There's been a lot of that -- black lawyers, doctors, financial advisors and other well-spoken professional people -- on TV lately. Not to mention happy, upwardly mobile mixed-race couples. They appear prominently in dramas, comedies, and even TV commercials for woke corporate America. I don't see any of them in my neighbourhood though. How about you?

Wally Awards Dept.

Speaking of TV commercials, here's one for an expensive car that is not being driven by a BIPOC. And it's not a BMW either. This one gets the coveted Wally for excellence in creative advertising.

 

Any parent who's ever had to sit through a high school orchestra concert can appreciate that one!

Whatever Happened To? Dept.

Oh. Yes. Catherine the Great. She was the wife of Tsar Peter III, right? How did she get to be Empress of All the Russias? Well sir... Catherine not only changed her name but learned the language and went out of her royal way to become more Russian than the Russians. She was much loved by the people, unlike her husband, who was loated almost as much as Just In Trudeau is by the people of Canuckistan.

Catherine formed a party devoted to her interests and the overthrow of the Tsar. When Peter foolishly retired to his country estate in June of 1762, two young army officers took Catherine to St Petersburg, where the troops proclaimed her empress and swore their allegiance to her.

When advised of the coup d'état, Peter didn't know whether to shit or wind his wristwatch (as the crude saying of those times had it). He finally abidcated without condition. He was then arrested on Catherine's order, and sent to the estate of the two officers (who happened to be btothers). There Peter died, four days later, in mysterious circumstances.

Upon receiving news of her husband's death, Catherine dined in public with her customary tranquil air. Not until the next day did she announce the Tsar's demise, in these words: "We have received the information to our great sorrow and affliction that it was God's will to end the life of the former Tsar Peter III by a sever attach of haemorrhoidal colic."

VIDEO: Trending up! "Mad Max" Bernier fact-checks two years of lies

February was a turbulent time in Canadian politics, what with the Freedom Convoy leading the charge against the tyranny of the Trudeau Liberal government. The world's second-coldest capital city was occupied. Border crossings were shut down. And ordinary citizens fighting for freedom were bullied, arrested, and deprived of access to their bank accounts.

Prime Minister Blackie McBlackface claimed that the protesters and their supporters were just a "small fringe minority" of racists, neo-Nazis yada yada yada who held "unacceptable views". In fact there are millions of Canadians who agree with the truckers, and the growing popularity of this "populist fringe" has been duly noted by the elites, who are starting to run scared... scared of the people!

They might well be scared. Nanos Research numbers, reported by CTV in mid-February, show a continuing rise in "accessible voters" for the People's Party of Canada -- a trend that began during the run-up to last year's federal election.

On the latest episode of Trend Line, Nanos Research's Nik Nanos said that the percentage of Canadians polled who would consider voting for the People's Party of Canada (PPC) usually sits at around 10 per cent. But as of Feb. 16, that number has gone up to 16 per cent, which Nanos calls a "material increase."

   

On the ballot question, when it comes to how many Canadians would actually vote for the party as their first-ranked choice, the PPC is polling at seven per cent nationally, ahead of the Green party and on par with the Bloc Québécois. (It should be noted, however, that the BQ only runs candidates in Québec, so its support is only in la Belle Province, whereas the PPC appeals to Canucks from sea to sea.)

Nick Nanos said, "What's clear is that over the last number of weeks, an increasing number of Canadians have put them on the political menu as an option."

Indeed. And it will be part of the PPC strategy to keep its leader, "Mad Max" Bernier, front and centre during the popular uprising against woke authoritarianism and Just In Trudeau's Liberals, as well as the CINOs (Conservatives in Name Only -- sometimes called "Red Tories") who, in this time of crisis, want to keep their asses not on the front lines but on the fence!

Triple-vaccinated Trudeau comes down with Covid... or something

Today, through the magic of video and the Internet, the Rt. Hon. Blackie McBlackface, Prime Minister of Canuckistan, addressesd the nation. He explained the sceptical Canadians that he is "self-isolating" at an undisclosed location because he has come down with the Wuhan flu. This in spite of having had three (3) shots of Dr Death's Anti-Covid Elixir.

  

Nothing to do (he added) with being afraid to face down the 1000s of truckers and their supporters still waiting in the cold on Parliament Hill and downtown Ottawa. On being asked if he would go and listen to them when he's feeling better, Mr Socks said he only meets with peaceful protesters with whom he agrees. Like BLM. Not those "people with tinfoil hats."

VIDEO: Journalists out Canuck media's lack of balance on Covid "crisis"

You think the American lamestream media are guilty of pushing the Dempanic button over the Wuhan flu? At least in the Excited States you can get a reasonable facsimile of the truth on Fox News -- important because it's on "real TV" -- and Breitbart News. In Canada there are no TV channels which don't toe the Liberal government line on the Covid "crisis" and everything else. 

When it comes to telling the truth, or even giving a choice of opinions, the lickspittle media are failing Canadians! That's the message of Candice Malcolm's interview with Toronto Sun comment editor and columnist Anthony Furey, contrasting the more balanced coverage of the US media with the relentless stream of liberal propaganda broadcast 24/7 by the Canadian "Big Three" - CBC, CTV, and Global -- and echoed by City and lesser outlets.

   

Dr Jordan Peterson watched this interview and tweeted this trenchant comment. "The legacy media are in an unrecoverable death spiral, spinning ever more uncontrollably. The CBC has become a mewling, meandering, self-righteous, slogan-spewing narcissistic near-corpse." 

I wish I'd said that! With the "progressives" and their sycophantic propoagandists in the media, everything is a "crisis". Covid. Climate change. Opiods. Homelessness. Refugees. Everything! 

The only good news is that even sheeplike Canucks are getting tired of listening to the media boys (and gals and trannies) cry wolf. In Canada, just as in the US of A, yearend sales and ratings statistics show that establishment media outlets are being abandoned, as liberal control of  "the news" is rejected by the very audiences the lickspittle media seeks to braInwash.

"I've got a lot of problems with you people!", the Senator tweeted, "and by 'you people' I mostly mean the petty tyrants who run your local, state and federal government. 2021 was a banner year for being a pretty tyrant, with them all literally tripping overe each other for the dumbest Covid lockdown or mandate idea."

Senator Paul's Festivus Report -- click here to read the whole thing -- details  egregious, wasteful government spending over the last year. His fecal roster for 2021 includes money spent on "a study of pigeons gambling on slot machines, giving kids junk food, and telling citizens of Vietnam not to burn their trash." Ed.], we present now, as a public service,  singer/songwriter Kimberly Dawn, star of the Adley Show, who gives us a clear and comprehensive list of  Covid do's and don'ts.

VIDEO: New Covid variant hits South Park!

It's been years (really!) since I watched a full episode of South Park, since it's not on "free" TV any more. I don't think I'm the only one who won't pay for programming I'll never watch just to see one show, as clips from the latest episodes appear on YouTube within hours of being aired. 

In this one, set in the South Park of the Future -- yet strangely in the present -- citizens of South Park go into panic mode when it is revealed that Dr Kenny McCormick died of a new variant of the kung flu. Think about this as you're shopping today for turkey or toilet paper.

 

Panic over nothing. It's what Americans do best. But the South African discoverer of the Omicron variant is officially telling everyone to calm down . In a column for the UK Daily Mail, Angelique Coetzee criticized the global ramp-up of travel bans, mask mandates and quarantine extensions wrought by the new variant. 

"The simple truth is: we don't know yet anywhere near enough about Omicron to make such judgments or to impose such policies," she wrote, adding that there is still no evidence of anybody being hospitalized due to Omicron. "If, as some evidence suggests, Omicron turns out to be a fast-spreading virus with mostly mild symptoms for the majority of the people who catch it, that would be a useful step on the road to herd immunity."

Just when you thought the world was going to hell in the proverbial bucket, Michael Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper, weighs in with a compedium of good news. "With mask mandates collapsing all over the country, and Blue state governors losing in court, there's an opportunity to push back against the COVID Stupid."

Mr Matt explains how even France is slowly loosening restrictions, while little Ireland brings up the rear. In fact, post-Catholic Ireland is almost as tyrannical as post-Catholic Canada -- two countries run by little men as maniacal as Joe Stalin but now with the technology to make the Orwell happen.

By the way, he says, "Justin Trudeau est un petit homme extrêmement ennuyeux." Walt knows, personally, scores of Canucks who agree that Mr Socks is a "little snivelling brown-noser" and are much more than annoyed.

The really good news -- "Covid's massive silver lining" -- is that modernist, liberal, progressive Christianity -- especially in the Catholic Church -- has been exposed for the sham that it is, and "is now on life support", while traditionalists are gaining strength and numbers all over the world.

• Is Senator Rand Paul, the libertarian, onto something when he defends vaccination so long as it's not mandatory? Isn't that what Operation Warp Speed was all about, to provide the vaccine option so that the country go back to the Old Normal?

• Can Catholic Poland break through the mainstream media propaganda that "patriotism" and "Christianity" in Poland are just codewords for "racism" and "white supremacy"?

     

Walt really likes that last segment. Recent events in the Vatican, Eire and elsewhere in western Europe suggest that eastern Europe may turn out to be the last bastion of traditional Catholicism. God bless all who preach, teach and practise the Faith of our fathers!

Speaking of which... today is Holy Thursday. Except for Good Friday and Easter greetings, there will be no posts from Walt until the Tuesday of Easter Week. Go to church if the nanny state lets you!

Ed. here. You may have noticed that Walt's posts this week have been more than a little short on content. Walt is speechless, or should I say wordless. He just sits in a corner of his cabin in the pines, seething and fuming. I expect a lavalike eruption of vitriol any time now, maybe this afternoon, but in the meantime am filling the space with appropriate visuals. This one comes from Agent 9, to whom we take off our masks.

To 9 and to all we say, don't expect things to get any better under a new administration. And don't get caught going out for a walk!

Just released this evening! Michael Matt, Editor of The Remnant newspaper, discusses the rapidly deteriorating situation in what he calls "the People's Republic of Canada". (Walt's term is "Canuckistan"). The Canadian sheeple, who have drunk deep from Mr Socks' chalice of liberal progressive Koolaid, are already getting used to the idea of checkpoints on their highways and "isolation camps" (read: gulags) for those who won't wear their masks and generally obey Big Brother's rules.

Mr Matt says the Paranoid States of America (that's Walt's term too) is not far behind. Dr Fausus ["Fauci", shurely. Ed.] is calling for Thanksgiving to be cancelled, and it appears the US of A is about to experience the Dempanic lockdown all over again, only this time with President Joe "Lockdown" Biden shaky hand on the tiller. Is this an election (Mr Matt asks), or is it the launch of a New World Order?
