"Mostly peaceful protests" OK for Antifa & loony left, not conservatives

The CBC (Canadian Broadcorping Castration - the propaganda arm of Canada's Liberal government) has got itself all worked up over Friday's confrontation between Liberal leader Blackie McBlackface and a group of Canadians angry about forced vaccination against the kung flu and its more virulent Delta (read: made-in-India) variant. 

There were plenty of other things for them to be angry about, but "to be or not to be vaccinated" was the wedge issue Just In Trudeau was looking for, and he got it. In spades! 

The protest was more "mostly peaceful" than similar demonstrations by Antifa, BLM and the loony left seen in the Excited States of America.  A common obscenity was displayed on a banner and shouted numerous times. The Salmon Arm Salute (having the same meaning as the printed obscenity) was seen. But no punches (or objects) were thrown. No-one was physically assaulted or interfered with. "No harm, no foul!"

The CBC and its masters would have Canadians believe that this sort of thing is simply unacceptable, just "not who we are", as Mr Socks put it. That's just bullshit. The behaviour exhibited yesterday is perfectly fine with the liberal politicians and lickspittle media, if the "mostly peaceful protesters" are on the side of progress and wokeness!

Case in point: Antifa and other comsymp "protesters" roughing up elderly women and men at the rally for Max Bernier held by the People's Party of Canada at Mohawk College in Hamilton ON on 30 September 2019. 

The rally went ahead anyway -- "Mad Max" is no coward! -- but not one of the thugs clearly identifiable in the video was ever brought to trial, let alone convicted of anything. And now the CBC, which deplores the much milder behaviour of the protesters at Bolton, refuses to allow any mention of the "Hamilton incident" in the comments section of its hand-wringing, pearl-clutching story.

Chinese-Canadians protest hijab hoax

For Canadians, today is National Hug-a-Muslim Day. Canuck snowflakes, liberals and SJWs are busy in Québec City and elsewhere in the Great No-longer-white North, kicking off "Islamic Heritage Month" (seriously) by commemorating the first anniversary of an attack on a Québec City mosque that left six dead and several others injured. Unfortunately for the Canadian Islamists (read: the National Council of Canadian Muslims) and Islamophiles, their "day of action" to "memorialize Islamophobia" -- see "Canadian Islamophiles plan National Hug-a-Muslim Day", WWW 18/1/18 -- has had a shadow cast over it by rallies in Montréal and elsewhere at which hundreds of Chinese-Canadians protested last month's "hijab hoax", in which a Muslim girl slandered their community by falsely claiming that an "Asian" (read: Chinese) man cut her hijab as she walked to school. In a presser organized by (((Shari Schwartz-Maltz))), media officer of the loony left Toronto District School Board, Khawlah Noman, an 11-year-old sixth-grader, accused "an Asian man" of pulling off her jacket hood and cutting the bottom of her hijab. The girl's emotional pain and suffering -- "I'm just a kid!" -- made headlines around the world, with politicians and public figures furiously signalling their virtue and their support for diversity in general and Muslims in particular. "My heart goes out to Khawlah Noman following this morning's cowardly attack on her in Toronto," tweeted Prime Minister Trudeau II. "Canada is an open and welcoming country, and incidents like this cannot be tolerated."

Miss Noman's claim was later rubbished by Toronto, who announced on January 15th that an extensive investigation had been conducted, as a result of which they had concluded that "it did not happen." Period. No explanation, and no apology at the time, although the girl's family later issued a rather mild apology to "all Canadians". The TDSB and Ms (((Schwartz-Maltz))), the Prime Minister and the lesbian Premier of Ontario merely said they were "relieved it didn't happen."

No-one was ever charged with, say, public mischief or filing a false report, let alone inciting hatred against "Asians" (read: Chinese). Jenny Wong, a Chinese-Canadian living in Montréal, told People's Daily Online, "The nature of this incident is vile. It is definitely a humiliation to Asian community, which has always been picked on. Even an 11-year-old knows that we are easy targets. This is unacceptable,” Jenny Wong, a 25-year-old Chinese Canadian living in Montreal, told People’s Daily Online on January 24th. "My friends and I will join a rally initiated by the local Chinese community in Montreal this Saturday, demanding an apology from the girl, the Canadian government, as well as a voice for the Asian community."

Two protest rallies were held in Toronto and Calgary earlier last week. Jenny Liu, a Chinese student at the University of Toronto, said "The Asian community in Canada doesn't have political muscle and is discriminated against or victimized. Canadian authorities and media outlets did not even carry out a thorough investigation before supporting the liar. Our rally slogan is focused on that lie: 'Hoax Today, Horror Tomorrow.' We feel hurt, and we demand that our voice is heard."

VIDEO: Followers of "the religion of peace" express their opinions on American recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital... in Sweden!

Malmö used to be a Swedish city. It is still in Sweden, but now it's "home" to tens of thousands of Muslim "refugees", asylum-seekers and other poor, misunderstood followers of the Prophet. Many of them are unemployed -- living on the largesse of Swedish taxpayers -- and have nothing better to do than turn out for anti-American, anti-Western, anti-everything demonstrations, like the one shown in this video.

These Islamists were ostensibly protesting the announcement by POTUS -- see Walt's post earlier today -- that the US of A formally recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and will be moving its embassy there in the near future, as required by US law since 1995. The Islamofascists chanted anti-Semitic slogans and warned that "Jews should remember that the army of Muhammad will return."



Swedish state radio reported that the militant Muslims shoulted "We have announced the intifada from Malmö. We want our freedom back, and we will shoot the Jews." In typically Swedish politically correct fashion, Sveriges Radio broadcast only audio of the event, which would have been unintelligible to Swedes who don't speak Arabic (the country's new second language). I suppose they didn't want to show the video, or provide translations of the epithets, for fear of fanning the flames of Islamophobia. Fortunately, this video with crowd-sourced subtitles appeared on YouTube within a few hours.

UKRAINE FOR UKRAINIANS - Walt chooses his side

Agent 1, who is of Ukrainian descent, used to complain about being called "Asian" of "Eurasian". "We are Europeans!", she said. Even worse, during the Soviet Days, was to be called a Russian! "We are not Russians!" she said. "We have our own flag, our own language. And the Russians have taken our land!"

That, in a nutshell, is what the violent demonstrations raging in Kyiv -- the capital of the Ukraine -- are all about. The Ukraine is a country divided geographically, and by language and religion. The conflict -- which could escalate into a civil war -- is about much more than whether the country should face the future as part of the European Union or as a satellite of Russia. It is about whether the Ukraine can hold onto its fragile independence.

The division between the western and eastern parts of the Ukraine runs more or less along the Dniepr River, which runs right through Kyiv. The economy of the eastern Ukraine is dominated by mining and industry; that of the west is chiefly agricultural.

The eastern Ukraine was thoroughly and deliberately "Russified" during the Soviet era. The use of the Ukrainian language was discouraged, even prohibited; people were ordered to speak Russian. Similarly, the Ukrainian Catholic Church (aka Byzantine Rite or Greek Catholic) was dispossessed and the so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church was the only Christian church tolerated by the atheistic Communists.

For most of the 20th century, the Ukrainian people -- particularly those of the west -- were ruled by people who were similar to them (Slavs) but still "foreigners". First the Poles, then the Russians. And they objected, as forcefully as they could, to the tyranny of "the other".

When the Germans invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, Ukrainian nationalists saw their chance to resurrect the short-lived Ukrainian republic, which had flourished for a few months in the aftermath of World War I. A volunteer army was formed, to fight on the side of the Nazis against their Soviet (read "Russian") overlords.

Inevitably, the nationalists became disillusioned and formed the УПА -- Українська Повстанська Армія (in English "Ukrainian Insurgent Army") -- which waged military campaigns against both Nazi German and Soviet forces. Theirs is the red and black flag you see here...and waving in the streets of Kyiv today.

The УПА was the military wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists — Bandera faction (OUN-B), originally formed in Volyn (in the northwestern part of the country) in 1943. Its official date of creation is 14 October 1942, the Feast of the Intercession of the Theotokos. The goal of the OUN was the re-establishment of a united, independent national state on Ukrainian ethnic territory -- "the rebirth, of setting everything in order, the defence and the expansion of the Independent Council of the Ukrainian National State".

OUN also revived the sentiment that "Ukraine is for Ukrainians". With the downfall of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s and the rebirth of the Ukrainian republic, it was thought -- perhaps "hoped" is the better word -- that goal had at last been achieved.

A quarter of a century later, the Ukrainians find themselves ruled once again by corrupt, repressive, Russian-speakers whose aim seems to be to bring Ukraine back to the bosom of "Mother Russia". And that, dear readers, is why true Ukrainians are in the streets of Kyiv today. May God bless them and Our Lady protect them! Ukraine for the Ukrainians!

You know, of course, that the Egyptians are still revolting. Well, maybe not revolting, but demonstrating against the failure of last year's revolution. There's more to this than rioting over football matches -- soon to be made an Olympic sport.

Egyptians seem to feel that the overthrow of Mubarak made things worse than before, now that they have a new dictator -- let's be honest about it -- and a government dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood. One of the things they really object to is moves to enshrine Sharia law in a proposed new constitution. That (I'm told) is the message these demonstrators wish to get across.

No, this is not Tahrir Square. (As if!!!) I'm told the ladies are actually Ukrainians -- perhaps the same professional demonstrators pictured in one of last year's posts -- and they are demonstrating against the Egyptian constitution outside the Egyptian embassy in, errr, Stockholm. Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

Les français patriotes marchent contre le fascisme islamique

The demonstration shown in this video was totally suppressed by the politically correct lamestream media in France and elsewhere. It has only recently received some exposure in North America through CBN via YouTube.

What you'll see here is a patriotic march, held in Paris on November 12th, in support of French culture and French (read "Christian") values and against continued Muslim immigration and Islamic fascism.



Aux musulmans et ceux qui crient "Célébrons la diversité", ces patriotes français disent: Si vous souhaitez vivre sous la charia avec des voiles et du halal, allez donc vivre dans un pays musulman. Ils sont nombreux: Iran, Irak, Egypte, Afghanistan. Vous avez l'embarras du choix. Mais laissez la France aux français!

Mitt!!! Go big or go home!!!

Charles Krauthammer said it, in today's Washington Post. I don't like to quote at length too often from the writings of newspaper columnists, but some of them -- CK is one of my favourites -- have a way of putting things that I can't even come close to matching.

Mr Krauthammer's thesis today is that the Inevitable Mitt has squandered umpteen chances to speak out forcefully and clearly against the manifold errors of Obama and his administration, but for some reason keeps pulling his punches. Romney's play-it-safe strategy would be fine if he were leading, but he's behind -- way behind, now -- and he needs to come out of his corner swinging with both fists. "His unwillingness to go big, to go for the larger argument," the writer says, "is simply astonishing."

The example CK gives is that of the Prez's incredibly lame speech to the General Assembly of the Disunited Nations. Referring to this month's anti-American demonstrations all over the Muslim world -- which included the killing of a US ambassador, let's not forget -- Krauthammer says:

Obama seems not even to understand what happened. He responded with a groveling address to the UN General Assembly that contained no less than six denunciations of a crackpot video, while offering cringe-worthy platitudes about the need for governments to live up to the ideals of the UN.

The UN being an institution of surpassing cynicism and mendacity, [I love that line! Walt] the speech was so naive it would have made a fine middle-school commencement address. Instead, it was a plaintive plea by the world’s alleged superpower to be treated nicely by a roomful of the most corrupt, repressive, tin-pot regimes on earth.

Yet Romney totally fumbled away the opportunity. Here was a chance to make the straightforward case about where Obama’s feckless approach to the region’s tyrants has brought us, connecting the dots of the disparate attacks as a natural response of the more virulent Islamist elements to a once-hegemonic power in retreat. Instead, Romney did two things:

He issued a two-sentence critique of the initial statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on the day the mob attacked. The critique was not only correct but vindicated when the State Department disavowed the embassy statement. However, because the critique was not framed within a larger argument about the misdirection of U.S. Middle East policy, it could be — and was — characterized as a partisan attack on the nation’s leader at a moment of national crisis.

Mr. Krauthammer concludes with some serious and urgent advice that Romney must heed if he's not to become Mitt, the Inevitable Loser.

Make the case. Go large. About a foreign policy in ruins. About an archaic, 20th-century welfare state model that guarantees 21st-century insolvency. And about an alternate vision of an unapologetically assertive America abroad unafraid of fundamental structural change at home. It might just work. And it’s not too late.

Chinese demonstrations "all staged" says dissident

Today's Globe and Mail has an update on the China-wide anti-Japan demonstrations which were the subject of Walt's post yesterday. I wondered whether the protests could have been orchestrated by China's Communist government to divert attention from domestic political troubles.

Ai Weiwei, the dissident artist and designer, think so. The Globe quotes him as saying, "It’s all staged. Only the Japanese could help us to have such a demonstration. We haven’t had such street protests for decades. The Japanese are helping us get back our rights."

Here's another coincidence which lends support to Walt's theory. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the so-called Mukden Incident of 1931, at "attack" on a Japanese-owned railroad in Manchuria which the Japanese used as an excuse for the invasion of that northern-most part of China. Even when Sino-Japanese relationships are relatively good, there are always demonstrations on that date, since it was effectively the beginning of the Japanese-Chinese war.

Agent 78 asks how I know that it's not the Japanese who are engineering the attacks on their consulates and businesses, as was done at Mukden, so they can invade China. I reply that the 1000s of protesters look Chinese to me. And yes, I can tell the difference at a glance.

In yet another coincidence, tomorrow will also see the start of the treason trial of Wang Lijun, the former chief of police chief of Chongqing, who blew the whistle on the now disgraced [and disappeared? Ed.] Bo Xilai, whose wife was just convicted of arranging the murder of a British businessman who, it was said, had assisted the Bo family in certain nefarious business dealings. The demonstrations should push this story well below the bottom of the fold on page 16 of the People's Daily.

What's going on in China?

That's what Walt would like to know. I'm waiting for first- or even second-hand reports from Agents 78 and/or 88 to get behind the video clips on the TV news. Via satellite, I've been able to see clips aired on Hong Kong's TVB, showing large, angry demonstrations in the streets of Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai. One report says there was trouble in no fewer than 28 cities.

The ostensible target of the protests is Japan, which this past week purchased a couple of small islands to which China (and Taiwan) lay claim. The islands themselves are just dots of rock, but the sea around them is full of fish, and beneath the ocean floor there may be quantities of... you guessed it... oil.

So... 1000s of young people are protesting Japanese imperialism by throwing rocks at Japanese consulates, businesses... even Japanese cars. Walt [whose Putong'hua is severely limited. Ed.] was able to understand yells of "war" and "now". Is the Beijing government likely to declare war on Japan, or even send a force of marines to take back the rocks? About two platoons should do it, but trust me, it's not gonna happen. (Lifetime pct .090)

Why, then, would the Communist government allow these near-riots? And trust me again, if the government didn't want the demonstrations to take place, they wouldn't. Remember Tiananmen Square!

Walt's guess is that the "spontaneous" demonstrations, which seem to include large numbers of printed banners and pictures of Chairman Mao, are being permitted, perhaps even fomented, to deflect attention from the strange disappearance and reappearance of Xi Jinping, the heir apparent to Hu Jintao, the outgoing paramount leader of the People's Republic of China. Or maybe not.

Mr. Xi was widely expected to be acclaimed as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China late this year. In due course he would also become President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission. When you wear all three hats, you indeed Da Man. It's like winning the Triple Crown.

But a funny thing happened on Xi's way to the throne. Around September 2nd, the presumptive emperor dropped out of sight, and remained so for about ten days, missing at least three scheduled public appearances. To the extent that the social media operate in China, tweets and twitters of "Where is She?" [That's how you say "Xi". Ed.] flashed across the land and around the world. But there was no answer until, like Lazarus, Xi emerged on Thursday, with no explanation or apology given.

Was Mr. Xi really suffering from a bad back, as was rumoured, or does he have a more severe health problem? Or is it his political health that's in question? Has there been a power struggle within the Forbidden City? The Chinese government no longer operates out of the ancient abode of the imperial court, but the metaphor is still valid.

And what will happen next? Will Xi succeed in succeeding? Or will he quietly step aside "for health reasons" in favour of... who? Or Hu? What does it all mean? To stop all those questions and rumours, perhaps a little diversion was thought to be in order...

Just one problem with that. When you let a tiger out of his cage, it's hard to predict what he will do, and harder still to get him back in the cage. The demonstrations I saw on the idiot's lantern today seem grossly disproportionate to the degree of bother the average Chinese would feel about two tiny islets being taken over by the Japanese.

The marchers seemed to be pelting the police and soldiers -- and there were 1000s of them too, armed with teargas and water cannon -- with abandon equal to that with which they attacked the Japanese buildings. I had the sense of a lot of pent-up anger and frustration being released. And I wonder when and where it will stop.

LIANE at it again

This editorial cartoon by "Gable" appeared in today's Globe and Mail.

Walt hasn't been paying much attention to the flash mobs or swarmings or whatever it is on Wall Street, because Wall Street is a long way from Walt's cabin in the woods, and the news from within the NYSE is more noteworthy (and depressing) than the news from without.

But now the buzz is that demonstrations by LIANE -- Lefties Indignant About Nearly Everything -- may be organized in other cities with stock markets. That's worrisome, because we do have a stock market in our little town. It's every Saturday morning, down at the fairgrounds.

In Zimbabwe, don't even think about revolution

In previous posts I've been highly critical of the autocratic government of Comrade Robert Mugabe, who rules the African almost-failed state of Zimbabwe with an iron hand. To call "Uncle Bob" a dictator is not overstating the case.

Comrade Bob and his cronies and hangers-on are understandably nervous -- OK, afraid! -- of the present unrest in northern Africa. Zimbabwe is not a Muslim country, but the demonstrations and uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen and now Bahrain, Algeria and Libya, are not about religion so much as economics. The protesters are fed up with misrule -- the incompetence and corruption which are impoverishing all but the rulers, and over which the ruled have no say.

Dictatorships around the world are doing their utmost to keep their subjects from following the lead of the Arabs. They are clamping down on the media, not that the press was ever free in places like China. And above all, they are trying to shut down the Internet, which has been the most powerful Voice of Change in the events of the last month.

The lords of misrule reason that if they can keep people from talking about democracy and "government of the people, by the people and for the people", the seeds of revolution will not germinate. Thus the campaign of Mugabe's government to keep people from talking about the events "up north". Not only must the people not speak, they must not listen, or even think about such things!

Earlier this week, about four dozen Zimbabweans who had gathered to watch the news on a satellite TV hookup were arrested for doing just that -- watching the news. On Wednseday, these "political activists" were charged with nothing less than treason!

What did they do? According to the police, they were "plotting anti-government protests". While watching the videos, it is alleged, they discussed organizing similar demonstrations in Zimbabwe.
The charge carries a punishment of death by hanging. In Zimbabwe such sentences are actually carried out, and strange fruit hangs from the trees.

Defence lawyers have said the accused -- trade unionists and student leaders for the most part -- were in an academic debate on African politics when police arrested them. They will plead not guilty to the treason charges and hope that they will receive a fair trial. Meanwhile, the sound of hammers and saws is heard in the jailhouse courtyard.

Footnote: The arrests have been reported in American and Canadian newspapers. However, NewsDay, the leading (well...only) independent daily in Zimbabwe, has been silent [silenced, surely. Ed.] on the matter.

Revolutionary headgear

Scenes from Cairo remind Walt of Lawrence of Arabia. People charging around, waving swords, mounted on horses and, yes, even camels. Apparently we can't yet ban the term "camel jockey" as politically incorrect.

Here's a fascinating photo, showing one of the demonstrators sporting the latest in revolutionary headgear. Yes, it's bread. Just the thing to wear in the middle of a riot.

Consider the benefits. If someone hits you upside the head with a baton or the broad side of a sword, the baguette acts as a shock absorber. You could shove it in the mouth of someone cheering for the other side. Or if you get hungry, you could eat it yourself. Brilliant.

Scary pictures from London

Agent 6 forwards these pictures of Muslims marching through the streets of London during a recent "Religion of Peace" demonstration.

Makes you think, doesn't it. Can you imagine having a Christian or Jewish or any other religious demonstration against Islam in downtown Baghdad or Kabul?

But hey, that's what freedom of speech is all about ... in London, at least.
