VIDEO: Minnesota civil war: it's not about ICE any more (Michael Matt)
Our old friend Michael Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper, lives in Minneapolis-St. Paul. He speaks today about what's going on -- an incipient international incident -- not 100 miles from his home.
Today, it was -20 F in the Twin Cities, yet tens of thousands – including many priests and rabbis — showed up for the #ICEout rally. Bivc-President J.D. Vance flew to Minnesota to tell the press that, although he wants more co-operation with local law enforcement, the Insurrection Act is not needed.
Meanwhile, President Trump does a complete 180 and says the shooting of Renee Good was a "tragic accident." In this week's Remnant Underground, Mr Matt explains why so many conservative influencers agree that the ICE tactics are the problem.
Joe Rogan compared the tactics to those of the Gestapo, and Bill O'Reilly said that if POTUS doesn't find a way to lower the temperature he's going to "lose the country."
Mr Matt argues that this is not a Republican vs Democrat issue. There is a whole lot more going on here than mere immigration enforcement. What is happening in Minnesota right now could negatively impact the entire world. Why so much outrage? Where’s the Catholic Church? And what’s the connection between Minneapolis, Gaza, Greenland and Davos? If you scrolled past the "play" button, go back and hit it now.

Minnesota's most popular TV series
Still running, after all these years and all these elections. Apparently Minnesotans enjoy working for 50 years so the Somali-loving Timmy Walz and his cronies can take their retirement savings away from them. Perhaps this is an example of the famous Minnesotan sense of humor?

From the Babylon Bee: too good not to repost in full
Walz Announces $8 Billion Grant To Somali Company
To Investigate Fraud
ST. PAUL, MN — In response to growing allegations of fraud tied to Minnesota's Somali community, Governor Tim Walz announced he had awarded an $8 billion grant to a Somali company to find the perpetrators.
"I'm sparing no expense to find those responsible," Governor Walz announced. "That's why I'm consulting with a Somali private detective agency. They know when to run a mean pick-six. They also run a nifty daycare center."
To date, approximately $18 billion has been lost to fraud in Minnesota through fake social service programs run by Somalis, some of whom may be in the country illegally. Walz hopes to get to the bottom of the scandal with a lucrative grant to the newly formed Osman Farah Private Eye Detective Agency for Finding Welfare Fraud
"Look at me. Look at me. I am the detective now," said Detective Osman Farah.
Democrats praised Walz for rising above politics to get to the bottom of the fraud case. "Well, I'm convinced," said Minnesota Congressional Representative Ilhan Omar. "Nothing to see here. As usual, America is the real villain."
Previously, Republicans questioned Walz's leadership throughout the Somali daycare fraud scandal, even going so far as to suggest he's involved. Now, however, they're certain he's just mentally handicapped and unable to run an elaborate money laundering scheme himself.
"We should probably have him arrested, but honestly, this is all so entertaining," House Speaker Mike Johnson said as he ate a bag of popcorn while watching the news. "Ha, they just found another billion. Hilarious."
At publishing time, Somali detectives announced they were close to cracking the case and just needed another $8 billion in funds to be sure.

What made her/him do it?!
The lickspittle woke media in the USA and around the world are working feverishly today to keep people from drawing any transphobic inferences from today's tragic murder in Minneapolis of two grade-school children by Robert/Robin Westman, an obvious product of the current fad for "transitioning", which we used to call changing your sex.
For those who were absent on another planet, someone who the authorities and media call "Robin" Westman (without referring to her/his gender) opened fire on a church in which students from Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis were attending Mass to celebrate the start of the new school year. Two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed where they sat in the pews. 17 other people were wounded, 14 of them children. Ms/Mr Westman, aged 23, then shot himself behind the church.
The authorities were quick to say that he/she acted alone and are investigating what s/he left behind that would speak to her/his motive. A video timed by Robin/Robert for posting on YouTube at the very moment of the shooting was quickly taken down, lest we think there must have been something wrong with this individual.
We all know there's nothing abnormal about wanting to change your sex, right? Google's AI know-it-all tells us: "Gender transition is the process of affirming and expressing one's internal sense of gender, rather than the sex assigned to them at birth. It is a recommended course of treatment for individuals experiencing gender dysphoria, providing improved mental health outcomes in the majority of people."
Since Robin Westman would appear to be the exception, let's consider what might have led her... or him... whatever... to attempt to change the way God made him to what he was this morning, as shown in this photo, which, unlike those in the mainstream media, hasn't been cropped to hide his lovely fluffy dyed hair.
Robin Westman was born Robert Westman. Citing court records from Dakota County, WaPo reports that his mother, Mary Westman, applied for a name change for her child in 2019 from "Robert Paul Westman" to "Robin M. Westman" -- "M." for "Mary"? -- because her child "identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification."
Let's start, then, with the theory that her mother made her do it. Perhaps she hated her mother, who worked at the school. But there are other possibilities, other people and organizations who may have influenced young Robert to become Robin.
Minneapolis cops say they are investigating the murders as possible "domestic terrorism" and/or "anti-Catholic hate crime". Is it possible that Robert came to hate the Church and all Catholics as the result of some counselling or encounters in the confessional with evil priests of the Father James Martin type so highly regarded by the Mauve Mafia in Rome? Was Robert an altar boy who wanted to become an altar girl to promote more "inclusivity" in the Church?
What did young Robert do in his spare time? Was he perhaps a member of the Boy Scouts? Did he go to drag queen storytime at his local library? Did he play soccer? Or maybe become a male cheerleader for a real football team?
What did he watch on TV? Sesame Street, home of the openly gay (now) Bert and Ernie, not forgetting Tickle Me Elmo? The Big Bang Theory, which doesn't have a single truly masculine character in the entire cast? How about Queer Eye for the Straight Guy? [I think that's only shown in the UK. Ed.]
Was Robin interested in politics? As we write, a story is breaking that her video manifesto revealed her to be suffering from TDS, and that she wanted to kill President Trump. Was she perhaps influenced in this by Minnesota goverenor Tim Walz, who is suspected of being a bit light in the loafers himself.
Those are just a few innocent questions that occurred to me at sunset on a black day in America. Certain politicians -- Democrats, of course -- are already saying that Republicans and other conservative types dare not use this tragic "isolated incident" to throw shade on the "transgender community". So I predict you won't see such questions asked in the determinedly pro-queer lickspittle media. Everyone will be very busy looking the other way.

2024 Wally Awards: Embarrassment of the Year
Rather than do a lengthy yearend review of stuff you already know and will read about elsewhere, we've decided to just hand out the coveted Wallies, without further ado. Today we present the Embarrassment of the Year. (Entries restricted to USA.) May I have the envelope please?
The winner is... Senile Joe Biden in "D-day doo-doo"
I don't think there's been such a cringe-worthy episode since President Bush the Elder vomited on the Prime Minister of Japan.
Runner up... Harris-Walz jazz dance duet.
What's so embarrassing about this, I hear you libtards ask. Really, is this the best the Dimocrats can do?

VIDEO: The New World Order takes a massive hit in US election
It's almost two weeks since the Day of Reckoning and the shock waves are still rippling through the woke Western world. There is much tearing of hair, weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Particularly amongst the feminist community of wimmin who (according to Bill Burr) started all t his woke nonsense.
In the latest episode of Remnant TV's "Underground", Michael Matt analyses the results of the 2024 election and concludes that, in the words of the leading leftist rag, “Pro-Abort Politicians Biggest Losers of November Election”.
Well, those weren't really the words of the New York Times. Their headling read "Wishful Thinking on Abortion Politics". Abortion was the biggest loser of all in the November election. And the politicians who support the killing of innocent babies -- Mr Matt mentions "Commie Kamala" Harris, Hillary Clinton and Tampon Timmy Walz -- were the biggest losers.
The unlerlying message -- the key to this video -- is those three familiar words, now trending again: "Christ is King!" The war is on, and the New Woke Order has lost this round. Will it lose the war? That, Mr Matt says, is where we come in. We mustn't stop now. As President-Elect Trump says, "Fight! Fight! Fight!"
Note from Ed.: Try not to be so stricken with mirth by what Mr Matt calls Francis near the end that you stop listening to the message.

VIDEO: The Remnant's Michael Matt on what happens next
We haven't posted much recently about religion, the culture wars, and the New World Order, because these worthy topics were subsumed by the big issues of the Presidential election. Now that it's over and the right candidate [Geddit? Ed.] won, what happens next? Here are some thoughts from our old friend, Michael Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper, and animator of Remnant TV's "Underground".
So there's not going to be a Te Deum. That's it for this week then. Absent any major news event, Walt will be taking the weekend off.
Victor Davis Hanson: Harris was doomed from the get-go
Ed. here. Victor Davis Hanson is one of the most astute observers of American politics in the world. We have featured his commentaries on WWW many times, and are happy to present here h is take on what happened to the Cackler.
The Republicans had made massive gains in voter registrations since 2020, when Donald Trump had lost the Electoral College by only a few thousand strategically placed votes.
Republicans began to master the transition to non-Election Day balloting — first engineered by the left in 2020 under the pretext of COVID-19.
They not only vastly exceeded their early/mail-in voting totals of 2020, but by Election Day, they often outpaced Democrats.
For months, it was widely reported, albeit grudgingly, that there were large defections in Hispanic and African American voters from Vice President Kamala Harris.
The betting odds over the last three weeks usually favored Trump.
Harris simply could not run on anything she had so emphatically promoted in the past — given these left-wing, unpopular, and failed policies had no majority support.
So, the chameleon Harris renounced her prior 30 years of earlier radical advocacy that, along with her race and gender, had forced Joe Biden in 2020 to select her as vice president.
There was no way Harris could still support banning fracking, defunding police, opposing border security and the wall, or calling for mass amnesties and an end to the border patrol.
Nor could Harris still promote racial reparations, ending private health care insurance, or advocating for higher income and capital gains taxes and a wealth tax.
Much less could Harris still boast of wanting mandatory “buyback” or confiscation of some semi-automatic weapons — including entering private homes to seize them.
So given all that, Harris simply flipped — and serially lied about who she was, renouncing her entire political career.
Indeed, Harris began to copycat Trump’s own positions. And so, she never convinced the electorate that she would not flip back to her earlier radicalism once elected or even in defeat finishing out her vice presidential term.
There were three damning realities that even if Harris had been a gifted politician and an adept speaker, she could never have changed.
One, Harris was preposterously running as a turn-the-page, new-generation candidate.
But why had she not sought to implement such a “new chapter” for the prior 45 months as an incumbent vice president, especially while in office during the campaign itself?
Voters knew the answer: The entire Biden-Harris tenure was a far left-wing utter disaster, one for which the radical Harris 1.0 had for three-plus years claimed co-ownership.
Two, why did Harris avoid all impromptu interviews and the media for most of the campaign — only to reverse course and seek out reporters when her polls eroded?
Did it hurt Harris more to avoid the media — or meet with them and thus confirm her inanity to millions of viewers and listeners?
Three, why did Harris serially lie to America that President Joe Biden was hale and vigorous — until hours before his senility prompted leftist donors and party insiders to force him off the ticket?
And why could she not declare her independence from the historically unpopular Biden?
Harris instead chose to terrify voters to vote against a demonized and “fascist” Trump rather than to vote for Harris and her make-believe agendas.
But even in demonizing Trump, the maladroit Harris hit a wall.
By campaign’s end, Trump’s favorables were often higher than her own.
His prior four years as president polled higher than the current Biden-Harris train wreck.
Trump, the purported “racist,” won more Hispanic and black voters than past “moderate” Republicans like Bob Dole, John McCain or Mitt Romney.
It was hard to damn Trump as a crazy fascist when iconic liberal figures, like Robert Kennedy or Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, were campaigning for him.
Trump had reinvented the Republican Party by substituting ecumenical, middle-class solidarity for polarizing racial tribalism. Elitist Democrats were left to cater to the interests of their well-off and very rich donors as well as the subsidized poor.
Finally, workaholic Trump campaigned nonstop for two years, won all the primaries, and was endorsed by his two chief primary rivals.
In contrast, the Harris “nomination” was the product of a coup that, in 48 hours, removed from the ticket an incumbent president, nullified the will of his 14 million primary voters, and coronated Harris, who had neither won nor ever entered a primary.
That late July forced abdication of Biden lent an air of illegitimacy to Harris’s candidacy, as well as truncating the time available to campaign. Harris’s first major decision was to nominate as her vice president the buffoonish and inept Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
His radicalism, serial lying, and herky-jerky “weirdness” proved a force multiplier of her own mediocrity.
In contrast, the calm, empathetic, and astute JD Vance eviscerated Walz in their sole debate and did the same to the media.
Add it all up — and Harris and her star-crossed candidacy were simply and rightly doomed.

VIDEO: Matt Taibbi and Walt talk about Tampon Tim and man stuff
This is a follow-up to "The video challenging 'real men' to vote for Harris", WWW 11/10/24. It seems that the Awalz part of the Dumbocrat campaign is tasked with bringing in the vote of "real men" -- blue-collar workers with hairy chests and sweaty balls. Joe Sixpack, the Marlboro Man, Dirty Harry -- those guys. That was what that "Man enough" ad was all about.
Now there's another one, produced by the same people, called "And Tim", featuring Tampon Timmy Walz, the Great Manly Hunter. It's even funnier than the previous one, and in this vlog, Matt Taibbi and Walter Kim [no relation to Walt Whiteman. Ed.] explain why. It's a looooong video, but after five minutes you'll want to watch the whole thing.
I wondered, as I watched it, if there's something wrong (physically) with Matt Taibbi. (His mental acuity is obviously fine.) I stopped following MT when he wrote Smells Like Dead Elephants, but have started paying attention again now that he has come over to our side.
I note that Mr Taibbi is wearing a baseball cap, and his voice sounds kinda shaky. I wonder if he is suffering from some disease. Could be cancer. Chemotherapy would cause him to lose his hair. Or, given his sexual orientation, it could be HIV-AIDS. Hmmm. I wouldn't wish such things on anyone, and wish Matt a good recovery from whatever's ailing him.

Lie down with dogs and you get up with fleas!
Looks like we have to give Tampon Timmy Walz, the Dimocrats' candidate for the vice-presidensity, credit for standing by his friends, even if it hurts him in his quest to be heartbeat away from power.
This photo appeared in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune on 7 May 2019.
It shows Governor Awalz hosting Iftar, the fast-breaking evening meal in the evening for Muslims during Ramadan, at his residence in Minneapolis.
Over five years later, Timmy is still tight with the followers of the Religion of Peace (TM). Las night, he participated in an online meeting organized by Emgage Action, a Muslim American activist group that recently endorsed the Cackler.
"As-Salaam-Alaikum," he said on the group call, using the Arabic greeting, before he offered an open door to Muslim and Arab voters. According to Reuters, Mr Walz said: "Vice President Harris and I are committed that this White House… will continue to condemn in all forms anti-Islam, anti-Arab sentiments being led by Donald Trump, but more importantly, a commitment that Muslims will be engaged in this administration and serve side by side."
No other religions were mentioned in the same segment with guarantees of similar access to a Harris administration. Don't say you weren't warned.

Walt reviews the Great Veep Debate
Poor Len Canayen and I watched last night’s vice-presidential debate between Senator J.D. Vance and Governor Tim Walz, and I want you to know we gave up a pretty scrappy game between the Habs and the Ottawa Senators to do so. We were hoping for a good scrap between J.D. and Mr Awalz, but were surprised when it turned out to be a pretty good -- and reasonably cordial -- debate.
In conclusion, I'll repeat what I wrote about 24 hours ago. When you vote, you're electing not just a president, but the person who will succeed her/him in the event of his/her death. Which of these men would you trust to sit in the Oval Office, with his hands on the levers of power? Well???
No knock-out punches were thrown. There wasn't even a little light sparring. In fact, issues and ideas were put forward, some concessions were made, and a certain level of agreement was reached on a couple of topics. My overall impression was that these candidates for the second-highest office in the Excited States of America looked and sounded far more worthy than the two we saw last month.
Some of you are going to hate me for this [As if you care. Ed.] but I want to start with appearances. Elections aren't supposed to be beauty contests, eh, but people do make judgments like "He looks like the kind of guy you could have a beer with" or "I just can't see him/her as [fill in office]."
Tampon Tim, with his jowls and wide mouth turned down at the corners, reminds me of Rugor Nass, the boss of the underwater kingdom of Otoh Gunga, in the first episode of Star Wars. Sorry. Senator Vance, with his square jaw, neatly trimmed beard and perfect-but-not-too-perfect hair, is straight out of Central Casting.
OK, forget about that. Once you stopped looking and started listening, the match became more even. The two men spent more time attacking the other's running mate than each other during 90-plus minutes. Governor Walz had a shaky start but hit his stride when talking about abortion and the so-called "Capitol riot". Overall, though, Senator Vance came off as the better-prepared and more polished public speaker. The consensus of even the lickspittle media is that he was the winner in a relatively clean and friendly contest.
Both candidates tried to portray themselves as down-home boys. (Arentcha sick and tired of "I was raised in a middle-class family."?) Mr Walz, with all his talk of "my farmers" and "we grow corn and soybeans", over-egged the custard. Mr Vance did better with his stories of the problems of his family and other real people that will be remembered from his book.
Senator Vance seemed much more comfortable. His answers were smooth, and relentlessly on-message, constantly reminding the audience that for all of Vice-President Harris's promises, Democrats have held the White House for the past three and a half years and have done next to nothing about the problems which the Cackler now says she has a plan to fix. "If Kamala Harris has such great plans for how to address middle class problems," he said, "then she ought to do them now."
If Senator Vance was picked because he puts ideological meat on the bones of President Trump's conservative populism, on Tuesday night he put a polite, humble face on them, as well. One of his better lines was, "Something these guys do is they make a lot of claims about if Donald Trump becomes president, all of these terrible consequences are going to ensue. But in reality, Donald Trump was president. Inflation was low. Take-home pay was higher."
It wasn't long before the CBS wimmin moderators violated their own rules and started in fact-checking Mr Vance. At one point, the microphones of both candidates were temporarily muted.
But for the most part, the exchanges on stage were even-tempered. Indeed, there were several moments when the two men agreed on issues, if not on how the issues should be dealt with. Toward the end, Gov. Walz said, "There’s a lot of commonality here."
There was, however, an unpleasant moment when Timmy said the only reason Mike Pence was not at the podium occupied by Senator Vance was that he certified President Joe Biden’s victory, for which Republicans wanted to hang him! Mr Vance missed a golden opportunity to reply that the only reason Mr Walz was the Democratic candidate is that Ms Harris didn't want a Jew as a running mate, for fear of blowing [Geddit? Ed.] the Arab-Muslim vote.
That said, Mr Walz showed some of the mid-western charm -- he knows which end of the straw to put in his mouth -- that the Dimocrats hope will counter the Cackler's California brass. He didn't do the Dems any harm.
Senator Vance's strong showing is likely to convince a lot of those precious undecided voters, and boost Republicans polling numbers in the days ahead. Moreover, his polished and relatable performance may well convince members of the GOP that the junior senator from Ohio -- two decades younger than Timmy -- has a future in national conservative politics, no matter what happens on the Day of Reckoning. Ed. is already composing a headline on the theme of "Vance ascendant".

While we're waiting... Trump takes the lead
Walt is busily checking out his TV setup to make sure he'll be able to see tomorrow night's Clash of the Titan and the Titty on ABC-TV, the network once famous for Wide Wide World of Sports (how appropriate for a political debate), and now well known for being 100% trustworthy in all matters political. Depending, of course, on who's doing the trusting.
The ABC TV guide listing for the Great Debate says: "Convicted felon lies repeatedly defending himself against attack by champion of truth, justice and diversity. Hilarity ensures."
While you're waiting for the barrel o' laughs to begin, you might get a chuckle out of this item: "Harris Campaign Admits Tim Walz Was The Only Candidate That Answered Their Craigslist Ad"... from our friends at the Babylon Bee, of course.
The Harris campaign team won't see the humour in that story, as they contemplate the latest results from the Daily Mail election prediction model. As they reported today, the latest polls have tilted in President Trump's direction, giving him a decisive lead over the Cackler the day before they go head to head on the debate stage.
The algorithms show the Donald with a 55% chance of being re-elected, a 4.5-point boost since last week. Today's result comes hard on the heels of a New York Times/Siena College poll giving Mr Trump a one-point lead at the weekend. Will the debate make any difference? We'll see. Is it likely to be entertaining. Absolutely!

VIDEO: Bad looks for A-Walz, he keeps getting caught in lies
Timmy A-Walz started his campaign with that famous kick-step [reminds me of the Dean Scream. Ed.] but the only thing he's been kicking since then is his own butt. Like the Cackler, he's been pretty much ensconced in the basement, refusing to answer reporters' questions, but he can't hide from the prevarications of his past. Faith, there's not a lie he hasn't told.
In this video from Fox's "The Evening Edit", former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee weighs in on numerous controversies surrounding Tampon Tim. Check it out.
Dear American friends, put on your butt-kicking shoes. The Day of Reckoning approacheth.
Further viewing: "There's Something Not Right About His Personal Life": Tucker Carlson and Dave Smith, posted on 13/8/24. Yeah... "bizarre" is a good word to describe Tampon Tim.

Sean Hannity tells the truth about the Cackler and Timmy A-walz
It's a complete collection of the podcasts in which he reveals the truth, in their own words, about the extremist policies of Kamala Harris and Timmy Walz -- far different from what the Dimocrat Duo and their lickspittle media are telling you now. Included are their most radical soundbites, which have now been carefully scrubbed from the liberal "mainstream" media.
Included are such gems as "Kamala says we must acknowledge America is stolen land and it must be restored", "Walz gives lecture on justice for George Floyd", and "Vance says Walz's record is joke, Kamala bent knee to Hamas wing of the party".
You can click on these titles to go straight to the podcasts, or click on the link about to see the complete lists. Be sure to check them out. The future of America depends on keeping these two radical leftists from getting their dirty hands on the levers of power. Please help by sharing this post.

VIDEO: Victor Davis Hanson analyses Harris's choice of Tampon Tim
It has been some time since we reposted a video featuring Victor Davis Hanson, one of the most astute political analysts in America. In this one, which has had nearly 2 million views since it dropped yesterday, Mr Hanson joins The Tony Kinnett Cast to highlight the critical controversies surrounding Kamala Harris's choice of Tampon Tim Walz as her running-mate.
Mr Hanson outlines the key factors in turning any election around in less than 100 days, and cites the key moments in the late 20th century that "everything changed in an instant." Listen up.
Mr Hanson leaves us with these questions: Does Hock Ptui have the ability or the discipline to stay away from cameras until stepping onto the debate stage? Will Tampon Tim make that avoidance better or worse? Surely it's not necessary for Walt to say "Stay tuned!"

Hock Ptui's pick for Veep of Kamalot
Further reading: "Five controversies surrounding vice presidential nominee Tim Walz", Fox News, 6/8/24.
And today (7/8/24) we're pleased to be able to add another great Branco cartoon!
How bad IS the economy?
Read all about it! "Historic: Kamala Harris Becomes First Black Woman To Destroy World Economy", Babylon Bee (who else?) 5/8/24.
BREAKING: In a surprise move (NOT!), Hock Ptui today announced her choice of running-mate -- 60-year-old Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesotra and reincarnation of Hubert Humphrey.
An arch-liberal (and not a Jew like that Shapiro guy), Mr Walz has helped enact an ambitious Democratic agenda for his state, including depolicing (post-George Floyd, you see), sweeping protections for abortion "rights", and yet more welfare and other benefits, particularly for bogus "refugees" and asylum-seekers.
Walt can hardly wait to see a debate between this wokester and J.D. Vance!

There's gonna be riotin', by George!
Won't even say "And so it begins." [But you just did. Ed.] As surely as day follows night, rioting and looting follow any death of an African-American at the hands of a white American cop. As it did in Minneapolis yesterday, following the death of George Floyd, a black man who claimed he was having trouble breathing because a law enforcement officer was kneeling on his neck.
A bystander's video of the incident on the city's south side captured the man, who was handcuffed at the time, the officers "Please, I can't breathe!" as he is pinned to the ground. The cops involved in the incident have not been identified, but Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (Democrat) announced Tuesday afternoon that they had been "terminated". He didn't mean it in the sense that Mr Floyd was terminated, but rather that they were "no longer with the police department"... fired, ya know.
Enter Black Lives Matter, who hadn't been heard from in a while in spite of the violent deaths of 1000s of young black men across the USA and Canada, possibly because most of those deaths were at the hands of other YBM. Anyhoo, the usual "peaceful protests" broke out "spontaneously" yesterday, and quickly turned into a night of rioting and looting at a Target store and other businesses in the Lake St/Hiawatha Ave area. Fires sprang up as well, engulfing a mostly black housing complex nearby.
The reaction of local politicians has been as predictable as the rioting and looting. In a Tweet late last night, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (Democrat) said, "The situation near Lake Street and Hiawatha in Minneapolis has evolved into an extremely dangerous situation." Duh!
Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) weighted in with "I'm praying for peace and healing tonight in Minneapolis, as I hear sirens and explosions across our green city. Our community is in so much pain. Dr King said, 'I can only close the gap in broken community by meeting hate with love.'"
Back to Mr Walz. The Gov added, "Our state watched George Floyd's humanity get erased. Our feelings of anger, anguish, and disillusionment are justified." He didn't actually identify the person(s) who might be the targets of the feelings of anger etc. He did go on the plead with othger unidentified persons, "If you plan to turn your pain into action by joining a public demonstration, please do so peacefully and safely to protect your own health and the health of the people around you." And remember to practise social distancing and wash your hands!
Finally, we go to state senators Jeff Hayden (D) and Patricia Torres Ray (D), who today issued a joint statement, as follows:
"We, along with our constituents, are deeply heartbroken and outraged by the injustice that occurred in the officer-involved death of George Floyd. As our community continues to grieve and grapple with this incredibly unjustifiable loss of life, we believe in their right to peacefully protest. We have grown increasingly concerned, for the safety of the City of Minneapolis and its residents, as the demonstration has escalated. More than ever, our community must come together during this hard time and in this work to fiercely advocate for the justice that is needed. We are eager to effectively partner with community organizers, leaders, activists, and advocates to prevent the loss of another life due to excessive use of force."
The "Reverend" Al Sharpton [Is he still alive? Ed.] is expected to jet into the Twin Cities today to add his voice of reason to the clamour. And the official anti-Trump line (for it's all his fault, you know) will be pronounced by Joy Behar and Whoopi Cushion on the View just before the noon news. Footnote: Walt's non-resident expert on American politics points out that the politicians named above (other than Tina Smith) are not actually Democrats, but members of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, a political formation peculiar to Minnesota which is somehow different from the national Democratic Party, although you may need a microscope to see the difference.
