Canuck newspaper apologizes for printing flag on Canada Day

Canada's government and its lamestream media have earned a reputation for extreme liberal wussiness, pandering to every minority "cause" and ignoring Canada's white native sons and daughters. The TDS, BLM, LGBTQ2S propaganda machine has been in overdrive this year. Dare we hope that running about the red line [Nice pun! Ed.] will cause the machine to burn out? Perhaps not!

"Down East" (as Canadians call their maritime provinces), the population is still mainly white, English-speaking or French-speaking, and heterosexual. But Maritimers are a friendly lot, and typically Canadian when it comes to saying "Sorry!" and apologizing for themselves. Still, many Haligonians (denizens of Halifax) must have been shocked, shocked to see this "trigger warning" across the front page of the Halifax Chronicle-Herald this past Saturday.

Can't believe your eyes? Yep, it says: "To our readers: inside today's edition, on page A9, you'll find a Canadian flag to clip and post to help celebrate July 1. We understand the flag doesn't mean the same thing to everyone, however, we hope our readers recognize their ability to play a role in shaping Canada's future is a freedom worth acknowledging."

The flag then appears on page A9, well inside the first section of the alleged newspaper.

The flag, with its stylized maple leaf, has been a source of pride for Canadians since it was adopted in 1965. Will it soon become like the Confederate Battle Flag, vilified for symbolozing racism, colonialism, white supremacy and all the other evils that the liberals their controlled media see in our society? Must it be taken down -- or, better, burned -- lest it offend some snowflake who feels entitled to reparations for wrongs done a century ago? It's sad that the question should even be asked.

As a public service to all our friends and reads in Canuckistan, Walt Whiteman, Poor Len Canayen [and Ed.! Ed.] are pleased to show the Maple Leaf Flag.
Long may it wave!

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

Where's the common sense?

A lot of what's going on in the world today, especially in the Excited States of America, makes no sense to me. For instance, if you and your "community" feel that you have been oppressed by some other "community", why would you protest by burning down your own neighbourhood? Where's the common sense in that?

I was going to give some more examples, but in the interest of saving space will just cut to an obituary, supposedly first published in the Times of London, shared with us by Agent 9.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who had been with us for many years.

No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- knowing when to come in out of the rain
- knowing why the early bird gets the worm
- understanding that life isn't always fair, and
- realizing that maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun block or an aspirin to a student, but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by:
- his parents, Truth and Trust,
- his wife, Discretion,
- his daughter, Responsibility, and
- his son, Reason.

He is survived by his five stepchildren:
- I know my rights
- I want it now
- Someone else is to blame
- I'm a victim, and
- Pay me for doing nothing.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. RIP.

From the inside: Matt Taibbi explains why the media want to keep Americans perpetually at war...

...with each other!

In fact, "Why Today's Media Makes Us Despise One Another" is the subtitle of Matt Taibbi's latest book, Hate Inc. (OR Books, 2019), which I have just finished reading and recommend highly. Mr Taibbi's political views are quite different from mine, but I always enjoy reading his accounts of what's really happening in American politics. He is a worthy successor to Dr Hunter S. Thompson.

Hate Inc. is something of a confession, a mea culpa for the part Mr Taibbi played in creating and feeding Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), both before and after the revolution of November 2016. See Walt's review of Insane Clown President, WWW 10/8/17.

The author now admits having been deceived by both the Trump and Clinton campaigns, and having deceived himself into being part of the "groupthink", the "conventional wisdom" purveyed by the lamestream media, which held that someone as worthy as Hellery Clinton couldn't possibly lose to such a patent phony as the Donald. To his credit, Mr Taibbi gives numerous examples of where he went wrong, while at the same time pointing out that he wasn't the only one.

But Hate Inc. is not an apologia for the honest mistakes of the media, because very little of the "news" they fed us was "honest". Mr Taibbi argues that what they gave us, and are still giving us, is a twisted and highly hyped form of the kind of entertainment epitomized by a WWE wrestling match! It wasn't an election, he says, but the grand finale of Wrestlemania, complete with a "babyface" (Mrs Bill) and a "heel" (Mr Trump) straight out of a reality TV show.

The "face" was supposed to win, but somehow managed to defeat herself, and that's a story already told by Mr Taibbi and countless others. The real story of Hate Inc. is why the media did it, and how they are still doing it. The answer is simple. Anger and hatred attract more viewers/readers than sweetness and light. More viewers/readers means more advertising revenue. More advertising revenue means more profit! Especially when you don't have to pay for the content! In fact, election advertising is a hyuge revenue stream for the meeja. The more elections, the more hotly contested, the more money they make.

And you, fellow "news consumers", are swallowing every drop of vitriol, every morsel of loathing, and begging for second and third helpings. In Hate Inc. you will find countless examples of the media's most egregious manipulation of your ignorance, prejudices, and fears. They whipped you into a frenzy, gentle reader, and want to keep you there so you won't log off their websites or turn off your TV, even though "some viewers may find this disturbing!"

I would like to post some excerpts, but Ed. tells me I have gone on long enough and must find just one for the conclusion of this review. Here `tis:

News consumers on both sides today behave like cultists; self-isolating intellectually, kept that way with a steady diet of terrifying stories about fellow citizens. Red-staters are told liberals are terror-sympathizers, desperate, out of white guilt, to eviscerate American cultrure from within.

Blue-staters are peppered daily with stories of fellow travelers and traitors in their midst, an incredible example being NBC's effort to paint presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard as a tool of the Kremlin....

This deeply paranoid view of the human experience, telling all America it lives on a violent invisible influence battlefield, is the opposite of what the news used to be.... We are trying to keep your brain locked in conflict, not just for the grubby commerical reason that it keeps people tuned in, but because it prevents them from thinking about other things.

What other things? Read the book! If doing so causes you to stop reading WWW, I won't be offended, as long as you also stop watching The View and Rachel Maddow and [That's enough biased "news" sources! Ed.]

Footnotes:
Hate Inc. doesn't have an index (tsk, tsk) but it does have an appendix entitled "Why Rachel Maddow is on the cover of this book". Enough said?

A second appendix is an interview with Noam Chomsky, co-author (with Edward S. Herman) of Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media (1988). Walt recommends reading this appendix first, before the book itself, to understand where Matt Taibbi is coming from. In the interview, he says to Prof. Chomsky: The main idea of Manufacturing Consent is...that it looks like we have a vigorous system of independent journalists, but the debate has been artificially narrowed. Why that is so is what Hate Inc. is all about.

"Allahu akbar!" in the UK. again, another case of "social isolation".

Just under a week ago, Walt told you about a Libyan asylum-seeker called Khairi Saadallah, who was (it seems) frustrated by the "social isolation" resulting from the Covid-19 lockdown in Not-so-great Britain, and took it out on a bunch of "protesters" gathered in Forbury Gardens, a public park in Reading, about 40 miles west of London. Three people were killed and three more wounded before Mr Saadallah was detained.

It has since emerged that the attacker, a devout follower of the Prophet Mohammed until he became a Baptist "in order to marry a white girl", had a thing about the alphabet people, something about their gayness being "unnatural" and "sinful", which "triggered" him since he saw the rainbow flag on display, this being "Gay Pride" month and all.

The official line, now, is that, while the killings were declared a suspected terrorist incident, mental health appeared to have been a significant factor. "Official documents" describe the new Christian's "various mental health issues", as well as struggles with debt, homelessness and alcohol abuse.

Let us see, now what excuse is offered for another sometime Muslim, a Sudanese national named Badradeen, who repeatedly complained about his living conditions in Glasgow's Park Inn hotel, which had been turned into a shelter for asylum-seekers, before going on a stabbing rampage, wounding six, before being shot dead by police on Friday. [Finally, one for our side! Ed.]

Mr Badradeen's erratic behavior allegedly prompted fellow hotel residents to report him to a British social worker. He arrived in the United Kingdom about six months ago, and started complaining almostimmediately about the food in the shelter, as well as the noise, threatening to attack fellow "refugees".

"He said that he was going to attack two guys in the room next to his because they're were making noise to deliberately annoy him," an asylum-seeker, identified only as Siraj, told the Daily Mail. Mr Siraj claimed that the Sudanese had also told him he was "fed up" and "very angry", and complained that there was "no daylight in his room." Several acquaintances interviewed by the tabloid believed that Mr Badradeen was gradually becoming insane and some had alerted the shelter staff, apparently to no avail.

"I think he was getting more mentally ill over the three months... He had gastric problems and had to isolate for around 20 days and his room had no light from a window," Nigerian-born Beatrice Onwuka said. She added the man had few friends, didn't speak much English, and ultimately changed his mind about seeking asylum in the UK.

"Authorities" now say... wait for it... that the sorry state Mr Badradeen allegedly found himself in might have been due to the measures the British government has taken to combat the corona virus pandemic. Asylum-seekers who had previously been living, as guests of British taxpayers, in apartments were moved to hotels during the pandemic. And instead of receiving money to buy food (or alcohol or drugs), they were forced to make do with three squares a day, served at the hotel. Many complained about getting the same food all the time, and Mr Badradeen said he was "very hungry" while living at the hotel.

Sky News reported that shortly before Friday's attack, Mr Badradeen phoned a "liaison officer" and an immigration lawyer. The lawyer promised to pass the man's concerns to the "safeguarding" team at the Home Office, which deals with protecting vulnerable people. The Home Office, responsible for the police, has not yet released the names of the vulnerable people injured by the attacker, except for the copper, who is said to be in critical but stable condition. Those injured in the rampage are believed to be residents and staff members of the hotel... sorry, shelter.

Mr Badreadeen was shot dead by police responding to the incident. The British "authorities" now say they are not treating the case as terrorism, just temporary insanity brought on by social isolation. Nothing Islamic about that, right?!

VIDEO: Hire a millennial

Assiduous readers may have noticed that Walt's output has been somewhat reduced in recent months. We [meaning Walt and my goodself. Ed.] are getting old and the workload is getting to be a bit much for us. So the other day Ed. decided to see if he could hire a research assistant. Here's what happened.

Thanks to the elusive Agent 2 for suggesting this.

VIDEOS: A day to remember men who died for doing what was right

The world somehow got through "Juneteenth" (the new Kwanzaa, i.e. a totally bogus "thing" made up by the left) without any major disturbances (as far as we know here in the backwater), so let us turn our attention to a Holy Day worth celebrating -- the feast day of Saint Thomas More, Saint John Fisher, and other English martyrs who lost their heads -- literally -- for the One True Faith.

For those who don't know the story of how St. Thomas stood up to King Henry VIII when the king defied the Roman Catholic Church and declared himself head of the schismatic Church of England, in order to obtain a divorce and remarry, I recommend A Man For All Seasons, the award-winning 1966 film directed by Fred Zinnemann, starring Paul Scofied and Leo McKern. Here's the trailer.

The screenplay and the play on which it is based were written by Robert Bolt. Here is a quote which should be borne in mind by all those who are jumping on the present-day anti-everything bandwagon, in both the Church and the State, because "everone else is doing it."

Duke of Norfolk: Damn it, Thomas, look at those names.... You know those men! Can't you do what I did, and come with us, for fellowship?
More: And when we stand before God, and you are sent to Paradise for doing according to your conscience, and I am damned for not doing according to mine, will you come with me, for fellowship?

But wait, there's more... Thanks to a tip from one of our agents, whose patron is St. Thomas More, we have this excellent commentary on the film by Father Victor Feltes, who provides some insight into the connection between St. Thomas and St. John Fisher, along with other interesting takeaways from the film. Just under 6 minutes; check it out.

Saint Thomas More, in all seasons, pray for us!

Black lives matter... only in America?
