I don't go to the movies any more. Hollywood is churning out so much trash. And it's not even so-bad-it's-funny trash, like Plan 9 From Outer Space. It's just remakes, sequels and prequels like the latest excrescence in the Star Wars series -- franchises well past their sell-by dates being warmed over in hopes of a few quick bucks. And of course it's mostly fiction. Very few documentaries or even dramatized true stories will be found on the silver screen, at least not in my corner of the forest.
But there's always an exception -- a movie worth seeing and perhaps even worth recommending. One such, which made its debut on October 12th in cinemas across America (although not many of them) is Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer, which I'm going to recommend even though the subject matter -- the crimes of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell -- is such as to provoke anger, outrage, perhaps even despair. This movie won't rake in piles of money, but may well be the most important film to be released this year. Here's the trailer.
I first wrote about Kermit Gosnell's many murders, committed under the guise of "reproductive health services", in "How to kill unwanted babies (and make loadsa dough)", WWW 20/3/13. Two months later, after a trial revealed gruesome details which it is no exaggereation to call "horrific", "Kermit the Baby Killer" was found guilty as charged (WWW 13/5/13), and is now serving three consecutive life sentences.
Mr Gosnell (he wasn't really a doctor) may be in prison, but the evil of abortion persists, paid for in large part by public funds -- your tax dollars -- paid to organizations such as Planned Parenthood. These groups say they are promoting women's health and "a woman's right to choose", but are actually funding the medical murder of 1000s of babies -- some of them born alive, as in the Gosnell case -- every day of every month of every year, right across the USA.
This movie, like Mr Gosnell's crimes, won't get much notice in the lamestream media. While the trial was going on, Conor Friedersdorf, writing in The Atlantic, asked why it wasn't being covered more. "The news value is undeniable," he said. "This story has numerous elements any one of which would normally make it a major story. And setting aside conventions, which are flawed, this ought to be a big story on the merits."
What is behind the studied silence of the media is the same aggressive secularism and political correctness that keeps us from even discussing the evils and perversions of our post-Christian society. Nothing is "wrong" any more, because we -- or at least our "progressive thinkers" and opinion-makers -- have lost the ability to distinguish between wrong and right. Whatever your position on abortion, Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer is worth seeing and thinking about. That's why the baby-killers in the abortion industry don't want you to know about it. But now you know. Please share this post by passing on the URL to your neighbours, friends and family.

VIDEO: Planned Parenthood doesn't do prenatal care, only abortions
One of the organizations heavily invested in the Wimmins March on Washington was Planned Parenthood. PP campaigned hard for Hellery, and against those who called for the defunding of their abortion clinics. "We provide many services for pregnant women," they shrilled, "including cancer screening, family planning and prenatal care."
Live Action, a pro-life group, decided to put them to the test. They made phone calls to 97 Planned Parenthood clinics across the USA. All but five of them turned away women who asked for prenatal care. A typical clinic staffer told one caller, "Planned Parenthood offers abortions, so they don’t offer prenatal care."
Here's a compilation of some of the phone calls. Hear the truth from the mouths of the baby-killers.
FOOTNOTE: A new national poll, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and conducted by Marist, reveals that a majority of the 2729 American adults surveyed are in favour of "significant restrictions" on abortion. A slim majority (52%) of respondents identified themselves as "pro-choice"; 42% say they are pro-life. But when asked more specific questions, solid majorities supported legal restrictions on the "procedure". 91% of those who supported Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy said they wanted restrictions on abortion. Surprisingly, a majority (55%) of Hellery Clinton’s supporters had the same opinion.

VIDEO: Who won the 1st Debate? A Catholic commentary
I've tried to keep religion out of my comments on the US presidential election, but keep reading comments in the lamestream media that all the Catholics are getting behind Shrillery Clinton, because Donald Trump's policies are racist, xenophobic, nationalist, isolationist, anti-environment -- everything that the Church is against.
I wonder how anyone is supposed to know what the mainstream Catholic Church stands for nowadays, but let's leave that aside for now. The fact is that a lot of traditional Catholics -- those who cling to the Faith of our fathers -- are supporting Mr Trump because, with all his faults, he is more likely to do things that we think must be done -- defunding Planned Parenthood, for example -- than is the Worst of the Worst (that would be Hellery), beholden as she is to the "rats, rodents and vermin" for whom she fronts.
That phrase comes from our old friend Michael Matt, editor of The Remnant. Here's his take on the first Debate. Worth a look.

Planned Parenthood using sex ed to promote abortion, boost profits
Note from Ed.: The information in this post was sent to us by Parents As First Educators (PAFE).
Earlier this month, Huffington Post published "Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards Discusses Sex Education", in which Ms Richards answers two questions of interest to parents of children being forced to study sex education in "public" (taxpayer-funded) schools. Here are the questions:
1. Should sex education classes be taught in elementary (Grades 1 through 8) schools?
2. What would the ideal sex education system look like?
The answers given by Ms Richards seem harmless, at first, with the words "age appropriate" being thrown around. And there's a quote that seems to include parents: "It's important for parents to talk with their kids and teens about healthy relationships with friends and intimate partners, body boundaries, and healthy communication. Children and teens need to hear about their parents' values and experiences, and we want to help parents address these issues with their children."
But this is Planned Parenthood we are talking about -- the same organization that backs the "new and improved" sex education curriculum mandated by Ontario's proudly lesbian premier, Kathleen Wynne.
Here is the very next quote from the interview with Ms Richards. "Ideally, sex education would be taught each year in schools from kindergarten through 12th grade -- it would be medically accurate, nonjudgmental, LGBTQ-inclusive, and -- like all school subjects -- would teach information and skills that are age-appropriate, reflect best educational practices, and build on students' learning each year."
Just like Kathleen Wynne and her Education Minister, Lez Sandals, Planned Parenthood is pushing sex education early in a child's physical and emotional development. Why would they do this? Because teaching little kids about sex is part of a strategy to get more teens pregnant and increase a demand for abortion, so as to make more money for the abotionists. And who is the largest provider of abortions in the world? Planned Parenthood!
Former abortion clinic owner Carol Everett, is quoted in the Lifesite News article "'We created demand for abortion by pushing sex ed on kids': former abortion clinic owner" as saying, "How do you sell an abortion? In the US it's very simple. You do it through sex education.
"We started in kindergarten. In kindergarten you put the children in a circle and you go around the room and you ask them all the same question: 'What do your parents call your private parts?' This was done to show, by the children giving different answers, that the parents didn't know what they were talking about and create confusion for the child.
From there everything else that's taught leads to increasing the odds of them getting pregnant in their teens.
"We had a goal of 3 to 5 abortions from every girl between the ages of 13 and 18, because we all work on a straight commission inside the abortion industry."

Catholic bishops call for prayer and penance to fight Planned Parenthood's barbaric organ harvesting
Even those who support a woman's "right" to kill her baby have been shocked, perhaps even dismayed, by the undercover videos posted by the Center for Medical Progress which prove that Planned Parenthood is generating revenue -- a lot of revenue -- by selling body parts from aborted children. Sometimes they'll even sell you a whole cadaver -- the result of a late-term abortion or even the killing of a baby born alive. See "Planned Parenthood accused of selling parts from babies born alive".
Even the liberal secular humanists who dominate America's media and politics were somewhat embarrassed by the crass barbarism of PP's traffic in dead humans. In one video, Melissa Farrell, the research director at Gulf Coast (Texas) Planned Parenthood, tells undercover reporters that her branch of the organization helps with the "diversification of the revenue stream." Directly contradicting the claim that Planned Parenthood only recoups its costs by the sale of fetal tissues, she says: "I think everyone realizes, especially because my department contributes so much to the bottom line of our organization..."
In discussing the prices that Planned Parenthood could command for fetal organs, Ms Farrell explains that administrative costs can be calculated along with "anything that we piggyback onto that for collection purposes." She also speaks about altering abortion procedures in order to maximize the chance that organs will remain intact; she says that "we deviate from our standard [crushing the child, particularly its head] in order to do that."
Some US senators found the courage to bring forward a bill which would have stripped Planned Parenthood of its $500 million in federal funding. But the "pro choice" (= pro baby-killing) lobby in Washington is strong, and the bill fell 7 votes short of the 60 votes needed to advance. The vote split along party lines, with only Senator Kirk (R - IL) voting with the Democrats, who undoubtedly didn't want to put the Prez or his putative successor (Hellery Clinton) in the embarrassing position of seeing their pro-abortion policies rejected.
Since the Democrats have stymied any action by the Senate, the only way for those who oppose the "harvesting" of the organs of the dead to fight this barbaric and immoral practice is to invoke the help of Almighty God. The Roman Catholic bishops of Colorado have asked the faithful to observe a day of penance and prayer on August 28th for recognition of the sacredness of life.
In a statement on July 31st, the bishops said, "We call on all people of good will in Colorado and beyond to pray that those involved in research and medicine will fix their sights on recognizing the sacredness of life and refrain from putting human life at the service of science. A society can only be considered socially just if it protects the most vulnerable among us."
On Wednesday, in "Another Boy, Another Question", Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, wrote that "for once we can actually take Planned Parenthood at their word, because in these videos they don’t use euphemisms, but instead they openly acknowledge the humanity of the babies they have aborted and are now dissecting. This makes perfect sense. The whole point was that the child was really a human person, and their organs and other tissue could be sold for experiments.
"In other words, the folks at Planned Parenthood finally told the truth about what they are actually doing when they abort over 300,000 babies each year –- that’s more than 20% of all abortions in this country: they are putting an end to an innocent, fragile, defenseless, human life.
"The importance of this is made particularly stark in a horrifying moment in one of the videos. A technician is exchanging small talk with the interviewer, all the while as she coldly describes her handling of the various organs of one of the aborted babies. She is then heard to exclaim, 'Another boy!'
"The pathos of that scene is almost beyond human comprehension. But the acknowledgement of the truth is a pivotal moment. Nobody can hide from it any longer. It comes right out of their own mouths. It’s not a thing. It’s not just some tissue. 'It’s a boy!' It’s a human, baby, boy."
And, in an op-ed published by the Chicago Tribune, Archbishop Blase Cupich of Chicago said that "the widespread revulsion over the tapes arose because they unmasked the fact that, in our public conversation about abortion, we have so muted the humanity of the unborn child that some consider it quite acceptable to speak freely of crushing a child's skull to preserve valuable body parts and to have that discussion over lunch.
"This newest evidence about the disregard for the value of human life also offers the opportunity to reaffirm our commitment as a nation to a consistent ethic of life," he added. "While commerce in the remains of defenseless children is particularly repulsive, we should be no less appalled by the indifference toward the thousands of people who die daily for lack of decent medical care; who are denied rights by a broken immigration system and by racism; who suffer in hunger, joblessness and want; who pay the price of violence in gun-saturated neighborhoods; or who are executed by the state in the name of justice."

Planned Parenthood accused of selling parts from babies born alive
On July 15th, Walt posted a shocking video released by the Center for Medical Progress, showing a top Planned Parenthood official discussing the organization’s booming business in the sale of organs from the bodies of aborted babies.
Now Catholic World News reports that another damaging video exposing Planned Parenthood’s involved in the sale of fetal tissues was released on July 30th, just hours after a judge in California issued a restraining order barring the release of some similar videos. In the fourth in a series of undercover videos, a Planned Parenthood official in Colorado is caught discussing ways to avoid possible criminal liability for trading in fetal tissues.
The CMP videos have received a lot of attention, as well they should, and there's been a lot of backing and filling on the part of Planned Parenthood, saying that they're not really making any money from the sale of baby parts. Rather, they say, the hundreds of thousands of dollars they rake in from butchering unborn babies to order goes to support their other "good works", such as, errr, providing mammograms for the disadvantaged and, errr... we'll get back to you.
Even normally "pro-choice" (= pro-abortion) politicians are in full CYA mode, demanding investigations, calling for cuts to Planned Parenthood's funding, yada yada yada. Presidential wannabe Mike Huckabee has been quoted as saying he would call in the Army to stop abortions. Since he hasn't a prayer [or only a prayer? Ed.] of being elected, he can say what he likes, but the killing of innocent babies is not going to stop anytime soon.
Meanwhile, David Daleiden, the head of the CMP investigative team, charged in an interview with CNN that Planned Parenthood may have been involved in harvesting organs from babies who were born alive. Mr. Daleiden says that his group had videotaped a conversation with the top executive of Stem Express, a company that supplies medical tissues for research, and "they admitted that they sometimes sometimes get fully intact fetuses shipped to their laboratory from the abortion clinics they work with, and that could be prima facie evidence of born alive infants."
It was Stem Express that asked a California court to block the release of any undercover videos featuring executives of the firm. Mr. Daleiden told CNN that he is convinced the damaging videotape, with the discussion of fully intact fetuses, is the reason for their legal action. "They’re trying to suppress that videotape," he told the interviewer, "[because] they’re very scared of it."
The court order barring release of videotapes involving Stem Express officials is valid until August 19th, when the court will have a hearing on the merits of the petitioner's unusual call for a permanent order to forbid use of the videotapes.

VIDEO: Planned Parenthood making a killing on aborted babies' organs
WARNING -- GRAPHIC CONTENT -- The picture below the video depicts a scene of shocking violence against an unborn child. Be prepared to be disturbed.
The headline is a terrible pun, but this is a terrible story. Yesterday, the Center for Medical Progress released video footage, captured during an undercover investigation, which shows a top Planned Parenthood official discussing the organization’s booming business in the sale of organs from the bodies of aborted babies.
In the video, Deborah Nucatola, the senior medical director for the Planned Parenthood Federation, describes how the procedure for late-term abortions is altered to preserve vital organs. "We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver…," she says. See for yourself. [If you're using Firefox, you'll need to activate Adobe Flash Player. Ed.]
By offering organs for sale, Planned Parenthood would appear to be in violation of federal law, which prohibits the purchase or sale of fetal body parts. And the procedure that Ms Nucatola describes in the video may be a partial-birth abortion, which is also illegal. Here, from the CMP article, is an illustration of how they behead babies using this "procedure".

Mainstream media suddenly discover sex-selective abortion is wrong
Live Action has been campaigning against "sex-selective abortions". That's the euphemism for the killing of baby girls in their mothers' wombs. As Walt told you in "Planned Parenthood caught TWICE promoting sex-selective abortion" on June 1st, they've been posting under-cover videos of Planned Parenthood "counsellors" in NY, TX and now AZ telling women how to arrange for the "procedure". "Planned Parenthood" = "planned baby-killing".
Following the lead of the American media [Isn't that always the way? Ed.] Canada's state-owned broadcaster, the CBC, decided to do a little under-cover journalism of its own. They went to visit a number of "recreational ultrasound clinics", where women can go to have a look at the baby inside them. If the baby is old enough -- 14 weeks or older -- it's possible to see his or her genitalia and thus discover the baby's gender.
In theory, the "clinics" should not do the ultrasound on women earlier than the 20th week of pregnancy, after which point an abortion -- if the women didn't want a baby girl, for instance -- would be inadvisable... although, in Canada, not illegal.
In practice, the CBC found, the majority of "clinics" it visited were happy to take the money and do the ultrasound up to six weeks earlier, knowing full well that the purpose was not "entertainment" but to do determine the gender of the baby so baby girls could be got rid of. "Oh, no, madam... you surely don't want another girl!" Click here to read "Fetal gender testing offered at private clinics" and see the video "Unnatural selection".
In the subtitle to the website page, the CBC says its report "raises fears that gender selection happening in Canada". Well, DUUHHH! As the report points out (rather quietly) the women who avail themselves of the "entertainment ultrasounds" have a definite purpose which goes beyond "oh, let's see the cute baby and admire it's tiny hands and feet".
Another point the CBC kind of glosses over, although it's the elephant in the room, is that sex-selective abortions are most prevalent in certain "ethnic communities" in the Toronto and Vancouver areas. Communities of Asian immigrants, to be more specific. To be more specific still, it's done by Chinese, Korean and -- especially -- "south Asian" (Indian, Pakistani, etc) immigrants.
Why do they do this? Don't they know sex-selective abortion is the cold-blooded slaughter of innocents? The CBC says there are "cultural pressures" at play here, so we mustn't make a big deal of it because to do so would be, errr, racist. Besides, the mothers are oppressed by their husbands and in-laws, and are afraid they'll be beaten or burned or (horrors) divorced and sent back to India.
True enough, and very brave of the ultra-PC CBC to say so. But, you may ask, do these women -- and their babies -- not have any protection under the law? Do they have to submit to abortions on their husbands' demand? Is there nowhere they can turn for help? Apparently not. Tomorrow we'll have a comment from a Canadian blogger.

Planned Parenthood caught TWICE promoting sex-selective abortion
Planned Parenthood has been mentioned more than half a dozen times in Walt's blog, because people should know that PP is not the benign agency it purports itself to be, helping plan ideal, caring, nurturing families. Planned Parenthood promotes and facilitates abortion. That's a fact of which the public needs to be constantly reminded.
Twice this week, the pro-life activists at Live Action have released videotapes showing "counsellors" at Planned Parenthood clinics encouraging women to procure a sex-selection abortion. Need I put it more bluntly? They're telling them that if they don't want the girl babies they're carrying, just kill them!
In the first video, recorded in a PP "clinic" in Austin TX, you'll see an actress tell the "counsellor" that she plans to abort if her unborn child is female. The counsel;or seems to approve of the plan, and provides details on how the young woman can obtain an ultrasound -- using Medicaid funding, by the way -- to determine the baby’s sex, and arrange an abortion if it is a girl.
The second video, below, was made in an undercover operation at a Planned Parenthood clinic in New York. Here again, the "counsellor" tells the woman how to obtain tests that will determine the sex of her unborn child, so that she can schedule an abortion if it is a girl.
Lila Rose, president of Live Action, charged that American abortionists are "aiding and abetting this horrific problem [of sex-selective abortion]." More than 100 million unborn baby girls have been destroyed, worldwide, in abortions procured by parents who wanted baby boys. Live Action calls it “female gendercide.”

In what way is Canada like India?
Forgetting (if possible) about the darkening complexion of "greater" Toronto and "greater" Vancouver, the answer is that sex-selective abortions are widely practised in both countries by parents who wish to have only boy babies. In other words, female fetuses are killed by the 1000s... in both countries... every year.
Although Canada has had no specific law against abortion since 1988, many couples of the Hindu persuasion prefer to cross the border to have their girl babies killed at "prenatal clinics" like Koala Labs or the Washington Center for Reproductive Health.
Like Planned Parenthood, the WCRH purports to be about family planning. For a while, they ran ads in Indo-Canadian newspapers headlined "Create the family you want: boy or girl". But the unstated sub-text was, and still is: If our technique doesn't work and it turns out you're going to have a girl, we'll kill it for you. No problem.
In "Indo-Canadian doctor decries abortion of female babies", Walt referred to a study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, which checked the male:female ratio of 767,000 Ontario births, compared with the mother's country of origin. For the first-borns, the ratio was normal: 105 boys to 100 girls. The ratio was the same for second births for mothers born in Canada. But for mothers born in India the ratio was 110:100. And for South Korea, 120:100! So it's not just the Indians.
For third births, the ratio, for Indo-Canadian mothers was even higher, 136:100. How could this be? Dr. Prabhar Jha, of the University of Bombay [Toronto, surely! Ed.] said it wasn't necessarily sex-selective abortion that was the cause of the abnormality. Possibly, he said, more women who are expecting a son immigrate to Canada!
The main author of the study, Dr. Joel Ray, admits it doesn't show why ratios are distorted, only that they are so. But data from censuses in both Canada and India show the same (or even greater) discrepancies in the sex ratios of second or third children in Indian and other Asian communities.
Which prompts Jonathan Kay, writing in Canada's National Post, to call for the drafting of a new law regulating, if not prohibiting abortions. Sex-selective abortions, he says, are seen in India and even China as crimes against humanity -- at least in theory. Why should Canada take a more permissive view? Click here to read "How shocking new sex-selection data could finally lead us to a Canadian abortion law".

Planned Parenthood: widespread abuse revealed
On July 7th, Americans United for Life released its investigative report on Planned Parenthood. The Case for Investigating Planned Parenthood asks Congress to consider the step already taken by several American states, cutting public funding for America’s busiest abortion provider.
The report calls for a full investigation into the misuse of over $350 million in government funding received by Planned Parenthood each year. “It’s really, really time to take a very hard look at them and what it is that they are doing with our money,” said AUL president Charmaine Yoest.
Analyzing records from 20 years of Planned Parenthood activity, the AUL report found widespread evidence of problems including: misuse of federal funds, failure to report sexual abuse of minors, efforts to thwart parental-notification laws, cooperation with criminal activities such as prostitution, inappropriate use of abortifacient chemicals, and distribution of inaccurate information about the medical effects of abortion and of contraceptives.

Virginia abortionists admit "clinics" unsafe
Planned Parenthood and other "pro-choice" -- meaning pro-babykilling -- groups have always maintained that one of their major goals [apart from ZPG? Ed.] is promoting "women's health". They want to save women, so they say, from the horrors of brutal and unsanitary back-alley abortionists.
Well, Virginia's legislature has just passed a bill that will impose new safety standards on abortion clinics. And guess what? Abortion advocates are screaming that the legislation will force most of the state's abortuaries out of business!
The bill requires abortion clinics to meet the same safety standards as hospitals. Nothing wrong with that, surely. After all, abortion providers have always been concerned about safety standards, right?
Turns out most of Virginia's existing abortion clinics do not currently have the equipment, staff, and facilities necessary to respond adequately to emergencies that could arise. An Associated Press account, generally biased in favour of the abortionists, observes that "the clinics resemble dentists' offices."
"Democrats and abortion-rights supporters said the change would put an estimated 17 of the 21 clinics out of business," the AP story reports. The abortion advocates evidently considered this a criticism of the new bill, rather than a reflection on substandard conditions in abortion clinics. But what does this reveal about their true motives?
Yes, killing babies is a business, and a good one too if you don't have to spend too much on safety.

Planned Parenthood accuses Live Action of cynicism!
Yesterday Walt gave you the link to a video posted on YouTube by Live Action -- a leading pro-life group -- in which we saw the director of a New Jersey Planned Parenthood clinic providing "expert" advice for a pimp, letting him know how best to avoid detection of his prostitution ring and his exploitation of underage girls.
You would think that Planned Parenthood might issue an apology or at least a disclaimer. Well, lots of crocodile tears have been flowing, but PP is still in deep denial about the morality of its real mission.
None more so than Stuart Schear, the vice-president of the Planned Parenthood Federation. When confronted with the video of Live Action's sting, Schear attacked the motivations of those who made the report! The Live Action team had pretended to be involved in illegal activities, he observed: "Falsely claiming sex trafficking to health professionals to advance a political agenda is an astoundingly cynical form of political activity."
In today's report of this astounding reaction, Catholic Culture asks whether Mr. Schear understands that Live Action is trying to save young girls from sexual abuse. Does he see that as nothing more than an effort to "advance a political agenda"?
And, Catholic Culture adds, if people are cynical about the work of Planned Parenthood, they're nowhere near as cynical as the people doing that work.

Planned Parenthood willing to help pimp of underage prostitutes - see the video bust
Still don't believe Planned Parenthood promotes abortion and other illegal and immoral activities? Still think Planned Parenthood is motivated by altruistic concerns for women's health? Watch this video sting!
You'll see the manager of a Planned Parenthood clinic in New Jersey providing advice and support for a man posing as a pimp, claiming to work with underage prostitutes.
You'll hear the Planned Parenthood employee advising the “pimp” to lie about the age of girls seeking abortions. “We want as little information as possible,” she says. She also offers suggestions as to the best ways of running the pimp's hos -- how the young girls can practise the oldest profession.
Live Action has sent the video to US Attorney General Eric Holder, suggesting a full-scale investigation. Said Lila Rose, President of Live Action, “This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Planned Parenthood intentionally breaks state and federal laws and covers up the abuse of the young girls it claims to serve.” Said Mr. Holder... ... ... err, nothing...

Former director reveals how Planned Parenthood does ultrasound-guided abortions
This week saw the publication of Unplanned, a new book by Abby Johnson, former director of a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Bryan TX. You certainly won't enjoy reading it, but you should, if you have any illusions that Planned Parenthood is devoted to women's maternal health care.
The fact is that Planned Parenthood promotes abortion and pressures its affiliates to increase the abortion rate. If you don't want to read all the gory details -- and I mean that quite literally -- click here for a transcript of a webcast in which Ms Johnson speaks of the horrific experience that caused her to reject abortion and drove her into the pro-life movement. Here's a sample.
I had never seen an ultrasound-guided abortion before. They’re not standard procedure because they take a few extra minutes.... I was called in to help. My job was to hold the ultrasound probe on the woman’s abdomen so that the physician could get a view inside the uterus....
When I looked at the screen and heard them say that she was 13 weeks pregnant, on the screen I saw the profile of a 13-week-old baby in the womb.... In that instant, I had a flashback to my own ultrasound of my daughter when I was 12 weeks pregnant. In that instant, I realized what was about to happen and what I was about to witness.... I recalled all of the things I had said for so many years to justify abortion – all the things that I thought I believed deep down in my core.
When the abortion procedure started, I saw the child begin to move away from the abortion instrument and recoil. The child knew that its life was in danger. Before that moment, I had never even considered that the child in the womb felt pain or felt anything for that matter. Planned Parenthood had always told us that the fetus had no sensory development until 28 weeks.
I was surprised, shocked, appalled and disgusted at what I was watching. I felt betrayed because I couldn’t believe that this company that I had believed and trusted in had lied. I didn’t want to believe it, but was looking at it so clearly. The evidence was in front of my face.
The abortion started and in just a few moments, the screen was black, and the abortion was complete. In that moment, I knew that my life was going to have to change. I knew that I couldn’t walk out of there the same way that I had walked in.
Unplanned is published by Ignatius Press. You can buy it -- in print, Kindle or audio CD -- on Amazon.

Beer commercials and advertising in Walt's blog
A couple of months ago -- January 6th to be exact -- I wrote about some really good commercials for Rickard's beer. Click here to see the post and follow the links to the ads.
Today I received a comment from "Graeme" from Molson-Coors, the beer company with the Can-Am name. Just in case you don't go back to the January post, here's his comment:
Glad to hear you like the commercials! Thanks for sharing. You can also make your own version on our site - using your own lines or some preselected ones.
The site Graeme refers to is www.rickards.ca. So if you've got time to kill this weekend and an urge to be creative, go for it. Who knows? You might just land a job...
On the subject of advertising generally, and Internet advertising specifically... A couple of people have asked why I don't "monetize" Walt Whiteman's World by accepting the advertising that Google will happily place on the screen for you to consider while reading the posts.
The reason is simple. I wouldn't want you, dear reader, to think that I in any way endorse or approve of or want you to know about some of the products and services that might appear. Once a blogger allows advertising, he (or she) has no control over what ads Google places on the blog.
For instance, if you were reading a post with the label "abortion", you might find beside it an ad for Planned Parenthood. I am violently opposed to Planned Parenthood or any organization which promotes abortion as a kind of retroactive birth control!
There are lots of things and people I'm opposed to. [Really??!! Whoda thunk it! ed.] And some things which I think are worth recommending. If I have some thing or some person to recommend to you, I'll do it in my posts.

Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger and racism
The following was posted by "Diogenes" in the Commentary section of Catholic Culture. Walt recommends this "moderately conservative" Catholic website.
Wait; did I hear that right?
We all know-- or ought to know, since the evidence is plentiful-- that Margaret Sanger, the patron saint of Planned Parenthood, was a racist and eugenicist. She favored legal abortion as a means of controlling the growth of the racial groups she deemed inferior. But that's all ancient history now. We don't dredge up the distasteful facts about the origins of the population-control movement.
Or do we?
Maybe Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg didn't get the memo. She told the New York Times:
Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of.
OK. Wait. Stop. Reset. Let's read that sentence again.
Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of. [Emphasis added]
Yup, that's what I thought she said.
