Police training VIDEO: How to peel a banana

Everybody knows that Canada is a frightfully peaceful [dull? boring? Ed.] country, except maybe for Toronto's Jane-Finch district. Oh...and Malvern and Regent Park and Scarberia and... [That's enough. Ed.] OK, well, York Region, north of Toronto must be peaceful as the local bobbies -- as Canadian police are called -- have enough time on their hands to produce instructional videos on such arcane (but important) subjects as the fine art of peeling bananas. Check this out.



Walt is not making this up. This video was sent out yesterday, along with a series of tweets, by the communications office of York Regional Police. Said their spokesthingy, "I would love to tell you that there was a ton of strategic planning, high-level thinking and the start of a month-long national campaign, but all of that would be untrue. We enjoy having fun with Twitter and today was no exception."

Constable Andy Pattenden told the Notional Pest that he got idea for a series of "instructional fruit videos" when he noticed another underemployed officer peeling a banana from the bottom up, rather than from the top down. "You see," he said, "us [sic] police officers are highly trained investigators and even the little things catch our attention. Instead of just leaving the observation alone, I decided to discuss the revolutionary method by which he accessed the fruit and it lead to plenty of discussion around the office."

Will there be more such interesting and informative productions? It is rumored that next up will be a video on how to eat a donut -- maple glazed, from Tim Horton's of course -- from the hole outwards. Stay tuned.

Footnote: Ontario cops are among the most highly-paid of that province's snivel servants. The government's "Sunshine List" (of those earning over C$100,000 per year -- $94,000 in real money) includes many "lowly" police constables. Agent 3 is checking to see if PC Pattenden is on the list, and says he will write a complaint to any cabinet minister who can read.

WARNING to Ontarians: queer sex ed is back on the table!

This post is going to have a lot of links, because we've seen this movie before. But, dear readers in the "Province of Opportunity" (LOL), it's coming again to a cinema -- make that a school! -- near you. Yes, it's the "OK to be gay" sex education curriculum, which the Liberal government of Kathleen "I'm queer and I'm here" Wynne is going to try once again to force down Ontario schoolkids' throats.

Thanksgiving weekend is a good time to make controversial announcements, because no-one's paying attention. Sure enough, Ontario's new Minister of Education, Lez Sandals, appeared on TV to say that she'd been hearing from many concerned citizens, teachers and other "progressive thinkers" that Ontario's sex ed curriculum is "15 years out of date" and badly in need of revision to keep up with trends in modern society.

That's code for swallowing the LGBT pro-queer agenda. [That's the second time you've come close to using the same old joke. Ed.] And the "group of educators pushing the government to make changes" turns out to be a new pressure group called "Ophea" -- "a non-profit association that advises on health and physical education".

Last week Ophea launched a campaign for funds to buy newspaper ads warning the public that what students are learning "does not address the range of issues impacting today's youth". The propaganda will urge the government to implement a new curriculum. That would be the one introduced four years ago by Minister of Education Kathleen Wynne (surprise, surprise!), which was shelved after an outcry from a group of parents and religious leaders who objected to bombarding elementary students with "information" validating and encouraging homosexual and other deviant sexual conduct.

What, specifically, was the problem with the new pro-queer curriculum? Click here to read excerpts, taken straight out of the 2010 curriculum, as published by Campaign Life Coalition. Prepare to be shocked. You'll see that words like "penis" and "vagina" are to be taught to Grade 1 students, and the concept of "different gender identities" introduced to children in Grade 3!

The part about "gender identity" enraged the Institute for Canadian Values, among many others, and led to the famous "Don't confuse me! I'm a girl!" ad campaign, which drew the ire of the lamestream media and the chattering classes of Toronto. The TV ad was even better and if Ed. can find it again we'll put it up here ASAP.

The "Don't confuse me!" campaign was successful, too... thank God! With an election in the offing, the Liberal government quickly sent the pro-queer curriculum back to consultants for further study. But it resurfaced almost immediately after the Gliberals won re-election. This time, though, they called it an "anti-bullying" initiative, and managed to force government-funded schools to set up (or at least accommodate) "Gay-Straight Alliances", which students quickly dubbed "Queer Clubs".

The LGBT crowd were content with that. The camel's nose was in the tent flap, so to speak. [Stop there! Ed.] But once the proudly lesbian Minister of Education became proudly lesbian Premier of Ontario, it was only a matter of time until the queer agenda was brought forth again in the pink sandstone palace at Queen's Park.

One of those who would be happy to see the adoption of a "new, modern, relevant" -- code for "gay-oriented" -- curriculum would be Benjamin Levin. As reported in July, Prof. Levin was one of many "progressive thinkers" consulted by Ms Wynne and her department in the shaping of the new syllabus.

Dr. Levin awaits trial on charges of possessing child pornography and accessing child pornography. He was earlier charged with two counts of distributing child pornography and one count each of making child pornography, counselling to commit an indictable offence and agreeing to or arranging for a sexual offence against a child under 16. Agent 3, a former lawyer, wonders if teaching the new "whatever floats your boat" sex education curriculum would open a teacher up to charges of "counselling to commit an indictable offence" contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Is bestiality (for instance) still an indictable offence in the Great Not-so-white North? Hmmm...

Big brother knows what you mean... you religious pervert!

What do these vanity licence plate "numbers" all have in common...

Answer: They were all refused -- not issued -- by the nannies in the Ontario Ministry of Transport. They're all objectionable, you see (don't you?) because they're religious.

And it's not just Christian references that are "0UTLAW3D". Also on the fecal roster are

FAUST666, LUC1F3R, HANUMAN, HOSANNA, FATIMA14, 1MUZZIE (eh?), SREEHARI, and BSMLLH.

Let it never be said that there's discrimination in Ontario!

But it's not just religious references that get rejected by the bureaucrats at the Kremlin. [Queen's Park, surely! Ed.] Your request can be refused if the combination of letters and numbers refers to: sexual meaning and eliminatory functions (like PIPICACA); violence/criminal activity (05 BUBBA ???); "human rights discrimination" (GONSYCHO); drugs/alcohol (JUSTRX, more ???) or if it contains "abusive/obscene language [or] derogatory slang" (C00N).

And if they don't get ya for any of those types of political incorrectness -- God forbid we should mention religion [Ooops! Ed.] -- there's the catch-all "clarity and readability", which the pencil-necks have used to ban BE4R, LE4F5, DBB88888, and 4Y (for why??!!).

Are perverts pushing Ontario's sex education curriculum? Could be!

Apparently Walt wasn't the only one who noticed that "educator" Benjamin Levin, charged with possessing and making kiddy porn, likely had a hand in shaping Ontario's new LGBT-promoting sex education policy.

The Toronto Sun's venerable muckraker, Christina Blizzard, today poses what she calls "Disturbing questions about sex education policy". So bang on is her piece that Walt will quote at length.

"Levin walked with [Kathleen] Wynne [Ontario's proud lesbian premier], former federal Liberal leader Bob Rae and current leader Justin Trudeau at the recent Gay Pride Parade, so [he] is a person with political connections. [This raises] disturbing questions...about the way education policy is formulated and who has input.

"Remember the uproar in 2010 over the new sex-education curriculum? It was slammed — not just by the religious right, as some would have you believe, but by average parents — for being overly graphic in its nature and not age-appropriate. This curriculum was developed at a time when Levin was a deputy minister [of education]....

"I do understand that curriculum is developed in consultation with a number of groups. Wynne's office and the education ministry were quick to tell me Tuesday that police, mental health agencies and others were all part of the development of the new curriculum. I'm sure they all gave their input — as did groups such as Queer Nation. It's also true, though, that the deputy minister would have input into which groups were "consulted."

"For anyone to suggest this was not a political process is nonsense. Who cancelled the new curriculum? It was former premier Dalton McGuinty, because parent outrage became a political liability for him. Wynne was education minister at the time.

"The curriculum aimed to teach 11-year-olds about oral and anal sex, and 8-year-olds about sexual orientation and identity. One teacher "prompt" suggests how the teacher might discuss "erections, wet dreams and vaginal lubrication," as normal things that happen with puberty. Ironically, we were told kids need to know this stuff at an early age "because they can find it on the Internet."

"The big question now is, who put it there?"

Who, indeed? Benjamin Levin, 61, now faces charges of possessing child pornography and accessing child pornography following a raid on his Toronto home on Monday. The nutty professor was earlier charged with two counts of distributing child pornography and one count each of making child pornography, counselling to commit an indictable offence and agreeing to or arranging for a sexual offence against a child under 16. This afternoon he was freed on bail.

Canucks choose world's first lezzie governor

Agent 3 has recovered from a dreadful hangover -- the kind where your hair hurts,  your teeth itch and your mouth tastes like the Chinese army has run through it with muddy feet. So he writes from Toronto, where he was driven to drink (he claims) by the selection of one of these two lovely ladies (?) as the new leader of the Ontario Liberal Party.

The Liberals have the largest number of seats in the Ontario Legislature. Under the Canadian parliamentary system of government, the leader of the party with the largest number of seats becomes the premier -- the head of the provincial government, akin to being a state governor in the USA. So that makes Kathleen Wynne -- the less butch-looking of the two -- the new premier. She is Ontario's first female premier, and the first openly gay woman to head any government in any state or province or any country anywhere! Isn't that great?

Agent 3 doesn't think so. What's the problem with that, one might ask. Sexual orientation (or whatever the PC term is today) shouldn't be an issue in this day and age. Right? Well, that depends. Sexual orientation is a bit like religion. What works for me may not necessarily work for you, and if I try to force my beliefs and practices on you, you have every right (it seems to me) to tell me to go to my own chosen hell.

And that's the problem with Kathleen Wynne. It's not that she's a proud lesbian. It's that she wants to force the gay agenda down the throats of everyone else in the province which she now governs. [You used that metaphor a couple of days ago. Ed.]

Let it not be forgotten that Kathleen Wynne was Ontario's Minister of Education in the government of her predecessor, Dalton McGuinty. It was she who drove the attempt to revise Ontario's curriculum for sex education so that children as young as 6 or 7 -- first graders -- would be taught that it's OK to be gay, OK to have two female parents or two male parents, and so on ad nauseam.

Public reaction to the new curriculum was so negative that the government was forced to withdraw the proposal "for further study". And the lovely Ms Wynne was quietly but quickly moved to another portfolio where she would do less damage to the Liberals' chances of re-election. Now that she's in the driver's seat, how long will it take before a new Minister of Education (Laurel Broten will be made to walk the plank for the recent teachers strike) reintroduces the LGBT-friendly curriculum?

Toronto cardinal condemns Ontario government promotion of "gay-straight alliances" as attack on religious freedom

Last week Walt told you how another self-styled "Catholic" politician -- Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty -- wants publicly-funded "Catholic" schools to allow the use of the soubriquet "gay-straight alliance" for "anti-homophobia" or "anti-bullying" clubs, if students so choose. Walt's choice would be "hug-a-queer clubs". But if the students want to use a heavily politicised phrase which comes to Canada from the American "LGBT rights" movement, McGuinty has no problem with that.

Who could have a problem with such a progressive concept as a "gay-straight alliance"? The Roman Catholic Church, that's who. Yesterday Thomas Cardinal Collins, the Archbishop of Toronto called the latest ukase from the Ontario Ministry of Education an attack on religious freedom. Which is exactly what it is.

"Why," asked the prelate "is an Act of the Legislature being used to, in a sense, micromanage the naming of student clubs? If the government at Queen’s Park comes in, the law comes in, and says this approach is going to be imposed across the board, anyone, any school, any person, any one student anywhere can trump the principal on this thing, this is...remarkable. Where’s the flexibility? Where’s the inclusivity?"

His Eminence is angry not just because of moral problems with the concept, but also because until Friday's announcement by Lauren Broten, the Minister of Education, the Catholics thought they had a deal with the McGuinty government to handle the issue in their own way. Cardinal Collins had spoken personally with the premier about the matter, and other church officials had been in ongoing discussions with the Liberal government over the new "bully law", so were blindsided by the minister’s unilateral announcement.

Christina Blizzard, writing in the Toronto Sun, calls the move "a breathtaking ambush... with far-reaching implications". Ms Blizzard also calls the last-minute amendment to the proposed legislation a remarkable display of hypocrisy on Broten's part -- her children go to a Catholic school -- as well as the pseudo-Catholic McGuinty, whose wife actually teaches in the Catholic system.

"As professionals, as politicians and as parents," the article continues, "they are well aware why the Catholic system exists and what its values are. [As Cardinal] Collins pointed out, if McGuinty tramples Catholic rights, he’ll walk over anyone. 'If you can do this to one group, you can do it to others.'" [My emphasis. Walt.]

In his press conference yesterday, Cardinal Collins said the Church was still taking legal advice as to the feasibility of mounting a court challenge under Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Such an action would be on behalf of the majority of parents -- not just Catholics but parents of all faiths and no faith -- who told recent hearings here they opposed the "gay-straight alliances" and the Liberal government's continued pushing of the queer agenda. The issue is nothing less than one of religious freedom.

"Catholic" Premier of Ontario caves, allows "hug-a-queer" clubs

Dalton McGuinty, the Premier of the Canadian province of Ontario, claims to be a practising Catholic. (About half of Ontarians who identify themselves as "Christians" are Catholic, at least in name.) He is obviously a heterosexual, with a beautiful wife and numerous kids, and never hesitates to proclaim his belief in "family values". But when it comes to following the teachings of Holy Mother Church, he constantly proves himself one of those "cafeteria Catholics" who takes a pass on any Catholic principles that might cost him votes.

Latest case in point: McGuinty's government's continued pushing of the LGBT agenda in the Ontario educational system. The proposal of former Education Minister Kathleen Wynne -- a proud lesbian -- to start teaching kids as young as 8 or 9 that it's OK to be queer was quietly shelved after cries of outrage from parents (i.e. voters) of all faiths.

But the "gay community" keeps pushing, while at the same time working to hide their agenda under the cloak of something more innocent-sounding. Like anti-bullying legislation. No-one can defend bullying in schools or workplaces, right? And who gets bullied more than homosexuals? Everyone knows that queer-baiting goes on all the time in playgrounds and locker rooms across the province...nay, the nation!

The solution? "Gay-straight alliances". That's what the LGBT crowd wants us to call "hug-a-queer" clubs. And they want every school to have one, with a dedicated space in which gay boys and girls (or those who haven't made up their minds yet) can meet to... errr... do whatever it is they do. [Didn't it used to be the washrooms? Ed.]

Ontario's public school boards, generally dominated by liberal humanitarian "educationists" had no problem with this latest wheeze, but some Catholic boards -- Ontario has a separate, tax-funded "Catholic" school system -- and Catholic school principals drew a line in the sand. They were spurred on by a rare reminder from their bishops of the Church's teaching that homosexuality is morally and physically disordered -- contrary to God's law and natural law. "No gay-straight alliances in Catholic schools!" they said.

You might expect a government led by a Catholic to say it's up to the schools, and they didn't have to have GSAs if they didn't want to. But nooooo... The McGuinty government is a minority government, which means it could fall at any time, precipitating an election. And the queers have a lot of money and a lot of votes. So, better not offend them.

Hence a sudden (but not unexpected) flip-flop on the issue. At a student conference yesterday, Education Minister Laurel Broten announced the Liberal government’s Accepting Schools Act (sic), which gave schools a veto on names for any student club, would be amended, so that all schools — including those in the Catholic system — will not be able to stop students from calling "anti-homophobia clubs" "gay-straight alliances".

"Let’s remember these are student clubs and student voices matter in the naming of a student club," Ms Broten told reporters. A Mississauga student activist was thrilled.
"Our school forced a name on us," said Leanne Iskander, a self-described "queer" who goes to St. Joseph Secondary School, and belongs to the "Open Arms Club" that members hope to re-name.

And you thought Walt was being homophobic to use a word like "queer". That's pretty much what the light-in-the-loafers crowd call themselves. So, no more hissy-fits please.

Will there be a court challenge to the amended legislation, if it passes? Tom Collins -- the cardinal, not the drink -- will make a statement Monday.

Islamization of Ontario schools still part of government agenda

What moved Agent 17 to send me the article on the perils of remaining silent in the face of Islamic fundamentalism? As a former resident of the Greater Toronto Area [Just one of many who have fled the capital of multiculturalism! Ed.], Agent 17 was concerned by reports that Islamic prayers have been introduced in Ottawa, Toronto and other public schools in Ontario, while the Lord's Prayer has been removed.

Well might he be concerned. No...alarmed! In Canada and the USA, the Islamic way may be peaceful for the time being, but the fanatics are starting to march. In Britain they are already marching...literally. We received [but Ed. has misfiled!] a video showing British Muslims marching through the streets of Luton calling for the police and other non-believers to die and go to hell!

Now the poison of Islamic fundamentalism is spreading through the ghetto of the GTA and other North American cities. Yet we remain silent.

However, this is not exactly new news. Agent 17 asks Walt if the reports he's reading are true. They are, and Walt wrote about the issue last summer. See

Now the 2011-12 school year is closer to the end than the beginning. In spite of a few tepid protests -- denounced by the usual suspects as "racist" and "Islamophobic" -- the imams are still coming into the so-called public schools to preach Allah-knows-what. The Ontario government is still pushing "Gay-straight alliances" and perverted sex education. And respect for diversity and "minority rights", of course. Yet we remain silent.

The biggest bully of all

Libertarian Gerry Nicholls has a great op-ed piece in some of the smaller Canadian newspapers today. It's the kind of thing you wouldn't see in the Globe and Mail or the Toronto Star, voices of the progressive urban elite. So, in case you missed it, let me quote some thoughts on the government's role in our lives.

The government is a bully.

The government is always pushing us around.

It bosses us with rules and regulations that tell us where we can smoke, what we can eat and what kind of light bulbs we can put in our homes.

It passes ridiculous laws to intimidate gun owners and marijuana smokers.

It forces us to give up nearly half our income in the form of taxes so it can finance things like artificial lakes in downtown Toronto and chauffeur-driven limousines for federal cabinet ministers.

It even tries to control what we can think and say through the so-called Human Rights Commissions.

In short, the government uses coercion to manage just about every aspect of our lives from cradle to grave.

Plus, let's not forget the government also has the power to put people in jail.

Now that's what I call bullying.

And every time the government bullies its citizens, every time it seeks to restrict our behaviour or control our actions, or steal our private property, it also takes away our liberty.

That should scare all of us. Freedom is a precious commodity in this world; it should be protected and preserved.

Strong stuff. I agree with it. In fact, I love it! But am I the only one?

In one of his Globe and Mail columns recently, John Ibbitson said he doubted that there was much support in Canada for a Tea Party, because Canadians are just too moderate, polite and progressive. On the contrary, I think Mr. Nicholls' remarks will resonate with many more Canadians than Mr. Ibbotson has readers.

Lesbian cabinet minister pushed queer sex ed plan

I hadn't intended to write another post on the Ontario Liberal government's about-face on its new sex education curriculum -- the one that proposed to start teaching pre-teens that homosexuality is "normal". As I said yesterday, the people have spoken and for once the powers that be listened.

However... Rosie DiManno has a very incisive and insightful piece in today's Toronto Star which is worth considering. It seems to me she gets right to the heart of the problem that the straight majority have with the LGBT* agenda which was being crammed down their ... err ... throats.

Thanks also to Rosie for supplying a bit of evidence to back up my assertion that this disgusting dogma of immoral sexual licence was being foisted on the people of Ontario by a large and vocal gay lobby.

The education minister on whose watch this witches' brew of immoral behaviour was stirred up was Kathleen Wynne. What I didn't know until today was Ontario's first openly lesbian cabinet minister. No wonder "she called the Tories 'despicable' for opposing the plan." Ms DiManno reports she shouted across the benches "You’re aligning yourselves with homophobes!"

Ms DiManno continues: "Homophobia — while a handy accusation to toss around — is emphatically not why so many parents revolted when delivered this fait accompli, now quickly withdrawn.... It’s the age of the thing that elicited gasps of disapproval, and the spoon-fed doses of sexual enlightenment as prescribed by alleged education experts that rankles.

"Nearly every buttonholing interview of parents conducted by the media over the last three days turned up deep reservations about introducing 6-year-olds to sex.... These youngsters are still learning their ABCs.... Then, a mere two years later, we’d have those children instructed on 'healthy relationships' and sexual orientation, subjects so complex that many adults would receive failing grades.

"It was demanding a great deal for parents to accept invasive sex instruction in the schools at complete variance with ethics taught at home. While many of us may disagree with some of those moral paradigms, we can’t compel others to change their personal views, or meekly hand us their very young children so that we can shape theirs."

Just so. Good column, Rosie.

Normal people speak up, government listens ... for once

Homosexuality is normal! That's what the huge and vocal gay lobby would have you believe. And that's what the Globe & Mail editors say in their lead editorial yesterday.

Don't you believe it! According to their own estimate, about 1 out of 10 adults is gay. That's 10 percent of the population. That means that 90% is straight. If 9 out of 10 people have one sexual orientation, and 1 out of 10 has another, which one is "normal"?!

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that homosexuality is common! Lots of people do it. Like murder, theft, and drunk driving. Lots of people do those things too. But that doesn't make them right!

Think about it. Next time a cop pulls you over and accuses you of DUI, are you going to say, "Don't worry about it, officer. Some of my best friends do it, and I've done it myself many times before."? Tell that to the judge and see what happens.

Nor should we teach our children that drunk driving or theft or murder are socially or morally acceptable. Clearly they are not. Neither is homosexuality.

I mention this because the government of Ontario has just bowed to public opinion (for once) and abandoned a plan to force its public schools to teach in sex ed classes beginning in Grade 3 that homosexuality, masturbation and other deviant behaviour is "normal". See Walt's column of March 4th.

It's tempting to hail this as a triumph for common sense, morality and the vox populi. But the opinion-makers, especially the liberal media (hello Globe & Mail! hello CBC!) are moaning about "intolerance", "a return to the dark ages", "homophobia" and of course "hate crime" and "human rights".

There's also the spectre of the gay lobby and Forces of Progress pushing and pushing until the "new enlightenment" creeps back into the curriculum. "After all," they'll tell you, "this is the 21st century. Anything goes!" Don't you believe it!

One last (?) thought... Please, normal people, be more vocal! According to the media it was pressure from "Christians and Muslims" and "the religious right" that forced the McGuinty government to back away from this diabolical plan to corrupt our children. In fact it was the individual, small but courageous acts of 1000s of ordinary but outraged citizens that made the Liberals sit up and take notice.

I say "courageous" because it takes real courage, these days, to speak up. Write a letter to the editor, send an e-mail, forward an article to your mailing list, write your MP or MPP, say anything that deviates from the secular liberal agenda, and you risk being labelled a "right-wing nut", a "religious extremist", or a "hater".

Just remember, the ordinary, normal people still think of our North American society as a Christian society. We still have certain principles in which we believe. We can still tell right from wrong. When something is wrong, we must not be afraid to say so!

Predictably that article aroused the ire of the "planned parenthood" and "women's reproductive right" crowd -- the folks with the unenviable task of finding euphemisms for baby-killing. Well yes, dear readers, LifeSiteNews.com speaks for the pro-life, anti-abortion campaign. It draws support from Christians -- Catholic and Protestant -- and members of other faiths who believe in family values and decry the degradation of society espoused by the liberal humanitarians.

Earlier this week LifeSiteNews published a shocking report: "Mandatory Curriculum for Ontario Schools Promotes Homosexuality, Masturbation". The Ontario government, it seems, has caved in to the demands of the LGBT community* and will be introducing a new and morally disordered sex education curriculum next September.

Grade 6 students in Ontario's publicly-funded schools -- that could include "public Catholic" schools -- will be taught that masturbation “is common and is not harmful and is one way of learning about your body,” according to a newly-revised curriculum released by the Ministry of Education.

Dear "Luna", here's the source -- the Ministry's new Health and Physical Education curriculum for grades 1 to 8, published in January. This will be mandatory for all schools that get government money -- taxpayer money -- beginning in September 2010. The high school curriculum will be released this spring, and will become mandatory in September 2011.

LifeSiteNews says it is unclear, at this point, whether Catholic schools are to be forced into teaching elements that violate Catholic teaching.

The new curriculum aligns with the Ministry's campaign to promote “equity and inclusive education” in Ontario's schools, which includes the advancement of homosexualism and transgenderism. A notable aspect of the curriculum's revision is the attempt to instil a sense that homosexuality and transgenderism are perfectly normal.

Freedom of information...well, SOME information...Ontario-style

Getting information out of Canadian governments and their agencies has never been an easy thing. The federal government of "Call Me Steve" Harper has rightly been called the most secretive and controlling in history. But the federal Tories have their counterpart in the Ontario Liberal government of Haltin' McGuinty.

Trying to find out what's going on in Ontario's ministries, departments and crown agencies is like trying to pry state secrets out of the Kremlin. (Come to think of it, doesn't Queen's Park look a bit like the Kremlin?)

Whatever the Ontario government is doing, especially where our tax dollars are involved, they don't want us to know about it. Here we see McGuinty, flanked by the Ministers of Tourism and Finance, in conference on allegations of wrongdoing at the Niagara Parks Commission. (See "Power to the people of Niagara" in Walt's blog of October 29th.)

Thanks to pressure exerted by Preserve Our Parks (of which Agent 3 is a member), Bob Gale (a former commissioner) and Bill Windsor (a would-be business partner), the three unwise monkeys were finally coerced, earlier this year, into appointing an "independent" firm of auditors -- KPMG -- to look into the allegations of mismanagement, nepotism, favouritism and corruption.

In July, KPMG submitted a draft report. On page 3 we find this disclaimer: This draft has been prepared and is intended solely for Ministry of Tourism's internal use...and may not be edited, distributed, published, made available or relied on by any other person without KPMG's express written permission.

Presumably "any other person" includes the taxpayers who have paid 1000s of dollars for the auditors' work. Certainly the Minister, Monique Smith, was adamant in refusing to provide copies of the report or any part of it to anyone. Yes, anyone...including the MPP for Niagara Falls, Kim Craitor, who asked for a copy only to be told it was confidential and he couldn't see it. And hey, Craitor sits on the same side of the house as Minister Smith!

So steamed was Kim that he threatened to make an official request under the FIPPA, Ontario's freedom of information law. While he fumed, investigative reporter Anthony Reinhart of the Globe and Mail actually made the request, and was rewarded with a heavily redacted [censored! ed.] version of the "draft" report.

Reinhart's story, "Probe uncovers ethical breaches at Niagara Parks Commission", includes links to the KPMG report as well as the Ontario government's internal auditors' report into the NPCs procurement procedures...or lack thereof.

The text of the KPMG report takes up 48 pages. Check it out and you'll see that no fewer than 14 pages have been crudely deleted, apparently with bits of white paper being stuck over the naughty bits. Two pages (34 and 48) are left entirely blank.

Whatever damning facts or recommendations could they contain? Hint: the censored parts often occur just before or after references to "the Chairman". That would be NPC Chairman Jim Williams, who had the gall to boast in an "interview" apparently dictated to the Niagara Falls Review's cub reporter that he had been exonerated by the KPMG audit.

Is that right, Jim? Then perhaps you could let us have a look at your copy of the KPMG report...the whole thing, that is, with the coverup post-it notes removed.

While we wait, we take a little comfort in being at least somewhat enlightened. Somewhat. Sort of. In a typical half-assed Ontario way. The public's right to know? In Ontario? LMAO.

eHealth Ontario overspending probe cancelled - New expense control coordinator to be hired

Ontario's government is weathering a storm of protest from opposition parties and taxpayers after quietly cancelling a promised independent review of scandal-plagued eHealth Ontario. The government had said a major accounting firm would look into procurement practices at the provincial agency, which is working (Is this right? ed.) to create electronic health records for Ontario residents.

David McKaplan, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, said the investigation (surely "review" - ed.) is no longer necessary because "all those who charged eHealth for tea and muffins have resigned or been fired, at no little expense to the taxpayer." (Check this. ed.) (Maybe "cheque this"? sr. ed.)

In a related move, the government announced the creation of a new, senior management post: Expense Control Coordinator. The person to be appointed, besides having a proven track record as a defeated Liberal candidate, will have demonstrated ability to curb excessive pay and expenses by senior executives in top-heavy public-sector organizations. He/she will work closely with the newly appointed Expense Coordination Controller, and will report directly to the newly appointed Director of Expense Control and Coordination.

Mr. McKaplan said the Minister of Health is confident that the new expense control team will be successful in reducing unnecessary layers of management and keeping eHealth Ontario's payroll and expense budget to within not less than 300% of projections.
