Chinese Commies won't allow "Patriotic Catholic" churches to re-open

May is the month of Mary. The non-essential Pope Francis has called on Catholics everywhere to pray to Her Immaculate Heart, pray the Rosary, make pilgrimages to holy places like Fatima... if they're allowed by the all-powerful state so to do.

But if the government says churches must remain closed because of the Dempanic, and that we must not gather together to pray -- just stay home! -- then of course we must obey the laws of the state, not God's law. Yes, he actually said that yesterday, in response to the call of the bishops of Italy for churches to reopen so people can have access to the Sacraments!

Italy is, of course, not the only country in which churches have been closed and gatherings of worshippers forbidden. [That applies only to Christians, of course. Ed.]  The bishops of the AABC countries (America, Australia, Britain and Canada) have drunk the liberal Koolaid and believe that the only way we can save ourselves is to follow our governments' guidelines, not our instincts which tell us that in time of crisis, the best place to be is in church, on our knees!

And then there's China. The bishops of the heretical and schismatic Chinese Patrioitic Catholic Association, to which the Vatican sold out back in 2018, have yet to utter a single word against the order of the Communist government to close all churches and "suspend" all religious activities, including not just worship but education. These are the requirements of the CPCA and the Council of Chinese Bishops, the two bodies that manage the life of the Catholic communities in China.

And now (this past Sunday), those authorities have ordered a "double suspension and a postponement" which will apply throughout the month of May. The first "suspension" is that churches will remain closed throughout China. The places of worship have been closed since January 23, the day the quarantine was triggered across the country due to the coronavirus.

In late March and early April, isolation was lifted from the country and the government pushed the population to resume normal life and go to work. But, the Commies warn, although "the epidemic situation in China is currently under control...the pandemic continues to spread abroad, and the danger of cases from abroad has found considerable growth.". Therefores, "the suspension of the opening of places for Catholic activities and for all religious activities must continue." Geddit, comrade?

The second "suspension" is for all activities related to Marian pilgrimages. The reality is that almost every diocese in China has a Marian shrine and these are highly popular during feast days relating to the Blessed Virgin and in particular in the month of May. This year, "no type of pilgrimage activity will be organized during the Marian month."

"To ensure the safety and health of priests and the faithful," says the new order, "please avoid any relapses caused by the gatherings of people; dioceses and parishes are required to suspend group pilgrimage activities, or organize interregional pilgrimages. The bishops and priests must notify their faithful in advance, asking them to pray in their home, recite the rosary, do meditation to venerate the Virgin Mary, spending this month dedicated to Her in peace." Just stay home, like the Americans, Canadians, Britons, Italians, French, etc etc.

The CPCA and the Council of Bishops say, as do our own bishops, that they are just following orders from the state, and that in order to "continue the anti-coronavirus work", it has been established that "religious gatherings should be avoided." Walt predicts that the end of May will see further extensions of the "just stay home" orders, not just in China but around the world. The difference is that in China there's a very good possibility that our churches and holy places may never reopen... ever!

"Crisis, eh?" Canada's Covid-19 stats

The population of Canada, as of last fall, was 37.59 million. (You could look it up.) That's including the hosers at left, but not 1000s of illegal immigrants, bogus refugees and asylum-seekers that Mr Trudeau's Liberal government doesn't want to know about and doesn't want Canucks to know about.

As of mid-afternoon today, 36,672 cases of Covid-19, aka the corona virus or "kung flu", had been recorded from sea to sea to sea. That's less than 1/10th of 1 percent (.001) of the population.

Of those infected, 12,502 have recovered and 1681 have died. The death toll is thus less than 5 percent of the number who have contracted the disease, and... let's see... carry the 5... roughly 1 (one) out of every 22,362 residents of Canuckistan.

Yet Canada's federal, provincial, and municipal governments of every stripe from deep red to mauve (there are no true-blue conservatives) are telling everybody to stay at home until the "crisis" is over. If I were Canadian, with odds of 22,362 to 1 against getting infected by making a quick trip to the beer store to pick up a square, I'd take my chances.

Taki reviews Dylan's "Murder Most Foul"

I confess... or, rather, boast... that I have never in my life listened to a "song" by Bob Dylan. Why should I? In his weekly summing up of "The Week That Perished", Taki says this about the allegedly iconic [most wrongly used word of 2019. Ed.] singer.

Dylan can't sing, can hardly strum a guitar, wheezes through a harmonica as if it's a ventilator, is as short as the average woman, is rumored to generate intense body odor, looks like a homeless person, and his music blows in the wind.

And yet... Bob Dylan, né Robert Zimmerman, remains a hero to lefties, Democrats and others who've drunk the KoolAid mixed up for us by the liberal elites, of whom he is the poet laureate. Robert Allen Zimmerman, born in northern Minnesota, remained Robert Zimmerman until he realized he could get away with pretending to be a non-ethnic hobo bard from the South if he rechristened himself as "Bob Dylan". As Southern humorist Roy Blount, Jr. once noted, Dylan is the type who will pronounce it "auty-mobile" and expect no one to notice that he’s faking it.

Still, people in the 1960s looked up to him as a God -- even The Beatles deferred to Dylan -- which hints at how much was wrong with people in the 1960s.

He’s also the pretentious type who will give his songs inscrutable titles just to confuse people, which is why he titled a song that should have been called "Everybody Must Get Stoned" as "Rainy Day Women #12 and #35" instead. He’s that insufferable.

Despite selling 100 million albums to people who were somehow able to find wisdom in his off-key warblings, Dylan had never lodged a #1 hit in the USA. He hit #2 twice, with "Like a Rolling Stone" in 1965 and the aforementioned "Everybody Must Get Stoned" in 1966.

Now, at a point when he is roughly Methusaleh's age and when 20-year-olds don't even know who JFK or Bob Dylan was, Mr. Zimmerman has proved that people in the 2020s may be worse than those in the 1960s because he’s finally scored a #1 hit -- with an unlistenable ballad about JFK’s assassination that has more meaningless pop-culture references than an average episode of The Simpsons. Oh -- and the thing is 17 minutes long.

It is called "Murder Most Foul", and the atonal abomination recently hit #1 on Billboard’s Rock Digital Song Sales chart. Without so much as an apology, it includes the following lyrics:

Questioning the overreaction to the virus Dempanic

I haven't written much this week [Did you write at all? Ed.] because I've been waiting for the furore about the "Corona Crisis", aka the Dempanic, to die down. [You couldn't think of another verb phrase? Ed.] Only today have I started to hear a few small voices cautiously whispering that the pandemic (as the WHO calls it) isn't that bad, after all, and maybe it's time that our authoritarian governments start to take their feet off our necks.

I don't mean to downplay the seriousness of the problem, but I don't think it's the huge crisis that the liberal political and media elites want us to believe it is. Their real agenda is to increase the almighty state's control over every single thing that we do, not excluding the things we say and the things we think.

We the sheeple have been led into a huge trap, giving up our natural and constitutional freedoms to the ever-expanding, overweening nanny state. If those who lead us knew what they were doing, rather than making it up as they go along, it wouldn't be so bad. But they don't!

Not that this is anything knew. Here are a few wise words from The Peter Principle, by Dr Laurence J. Peter and Raymond Hull. For those who haven't read the book (published in 1969), the authors posit that things always go wrong, not because of Murphy's Law, but because, in a hierarchy, everyone tends to rise to his level of incompetence.

In the chapter headed Hierarchiology & Politics, Dr Peter quotes a student who said to him "I don't know whether the world is run by smart men who are...putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it." The good doctor says, in response, that his studies have shown that "capitalistic, socialistic, and communistic systems are characterized by the same accumulation of redundant and incompetent personnel."

Those who (allegedly) lead us say that they're merely following the advice of experts. The problem, as Dr Peter sees it, is that "in any economic or political crisis...many learned experts will prescribe many different remedies!" Why? Because
1) Many of the experts have actually reached their level of incompetence: their advice is nonsensical or irrelevant.
2) Some of them have sound teories, but are unable to put them into effect.
3) In any event, neither sound nor unsound proposals can be carried out efficiently, because the machinery of government is a vast series of interlocking hierarchies, riddled through and through with incompetence.

Agent 78 would agree. She is still waiting for some "emergency relief" promised weeks ago, to which she is clearly entitled. She has called two departments which might be tasked with doling out the elusive spondulix -- it's not clear which one actually has the responsibility -- but has been unable to get through on the phone. Indeed, she can't even get put on hold. Instead of saying "Hello", the computer at the other end just says "Try again tomorrow," or, believe it or not, "Try again next week."

The "cure" -- throwing money at the "crisis" -- is proving worse than the disease. No matter what they call their strategy, our governments are, in effect, printing money sufficient to ensure that everyone -- citizen or not, suffering or not -- will get some (eventually), and, at the next election, show their gratitude for being given their own money. The mind boggles.

Covid-19: Is it really part of the Great Conspiracy?

Agent 6 has sent along what he calls a cringe-worthy article from GlobalResearch: Centre for Research on Globalization. A look at their list of "Latest News & Top Stories" tell me their hearts are in the right place [Geddit? Ed.] but "Coronavirus – The Aftermath. A Coming Mega-Depression…" has me wondering about their heads.

The article is attributed to one Peter Koenig, but I wouldn't have been surprised if the by-line had read "Cassandra". In a story calculated to induce High Anxiety [Hello, Mel Brooks!], Mr Koenig tells us that the world as we know it is pretty much going to fall apart any day now, thanks to Covid-19, the corona virus, which is all part of a global conspiracy to kill us old people, and make the survivors slaves to a socialist world government...and defeat Still-President Trump into the bargain!

I wouldn't say it ain't so, but have serious reservations about whether recent events are really as connected, and our future really as dire, as Mr Koenig suggests when he writes: What the world is experiencing, resembles a well-planned worldwide declaration and implementation of Martial Law with socio-economically disastrous consequences, far worse than the disease itself. Nobody moves. The economy comes to an almost standstill. This begs the question, what is behind it, and what comes next?

Are we in for a second Great Depression?

Mr Koenig quotes a report on Al-Jazeera (!) calling recent heavy job losses "a staggering, sudden blow to American workers never seen before in the U.S. economy. The labor market in the coming weeks could blow past the 15 million jobs lost at the peak of the 18-month Great Recession from 2007 to 2009."

Next comes a quote from (((Goldman Sachs))) which "sees unprecedented stop in economic activity, with 2nd quarter GDP contracting 24% Goldman Sachs economists forecast a historically sharp and swift recession, with second-quarter GDP sinking a stunning 24% after a 6% decline in the first quarter. GS economist predict a further GDP decline of 5% in the second quarter."

Mr Koenig predicts: The picture of a coming mega-depression, that never existed in recent history, may continue as many of the bankrupt small and medium size enterprises – including airlines, tourist industries – et al, will be bought up by huge monopolies, that already exist, (e.g.Google, Amazon, AliBaba and more). Mergers of gigantic proportions may take place. It may be the last shift of capital from the bottom to the top in our era of civilization as we know it.

As anyone heavily invested in the stock market will tell you, the world economy is in turmoil right now. POTUS may wish that America will be open for business again -- business as usual -- as soon as next month, but it's not going to happen as quickly as that. On the other hand, it's not going to take a decade or even half a decade before we can relax our sphincters. Look at how our economy rebounded from the Spanish flu of 1919 and the lending/securities crisis of 2007-9. IMHO, we'll have to keep calm and go long for two years, three years max. Lifetime pct .970.

Killing off the old and unfit in the name of "population reduction"

The President's chief advisor, Dr Anthony Fauci, likened the corona virus to a stronger than usual common flu. "The case fatality rate," he wrote in a peer-reviewed article, "may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively."

Mr Koenig doesn't consider the fact that a disproportionate number of deaths are occurring in long-term care facilities, with the most at-risk being aged 77 to over 100. [Are you getting nervous, Walt? Ed.] There is also a higher incidence of the disease in the, errr, non-white community. I won't go there for fear of being branded a racist [again. Ed.] But Mr Koeing picks up the ball and runs with it.

He asks: Is population reduction part of this ongoing pandemic exercise which may be followed by a compulsory vaccination program?... In 1974, under the Nixon administration, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was entrusted – under the auspices of the National Security Council– to outline the contours of a "depopulation program" largely targeting Third World countries. A Document entitled NSC Study Memorandum 200 was drafted.

The Depopulation Agenda has remained an integral part of US foreign policy. It was also endorsed by several corporate charities and foundations. In this regard, the Bill and Melinda Gates and the Rockefeller foundations have addressed the relationship between extreme poverty and depopulation.

Then comes the anti-vaxxer, mark-of-the-Beast stuff. "The idea is, in due time (whenever the program is ready) – to use the vaccination program, possibly forced, to inject along with the vaccine also a nano-chip, that can be injected along with the vaccination program. It could be done without the person’s knowledge and later remotely uploaded with personal data, from health records, to criminal records, to bank accounts. In fact, the Gates Foundation, together with GAVI has already developed a tattoo-like chip which would be used for both, vaccination and electronic ID."

Yeah, well... As Dr Fauci points out, the Covid-19 fatality rate is not likely to be nearly as high, in absolute numbers or percentages, than that of the Spanish flu or the lesser epidemics of SARS and MERS. The lamestream media are now preparing us for a "second wave", because this first wave hasn't lived up to all the hype, but even if there is a second and a third wave, a vaccine should be available by the spring of 2022 or earlier. I will be among the first in line for my shot. I've been getting flu shots for over five years now, and have never suffered any side-effects, nor have I contracted the flu in any form. And the UN hasn't yet taken control of my mind or body.

Are we going to be living in a police state?

Every day the meeja brings us stories and pictures of police harrassing civilians for such crimes as playing beach volleyball and standing too close to others in the unemployment line. Fines up into the 1000s of dollars are being levied and people are being threatened with jail. In France, soldiers are patrolling the streets to make sure people aren't escaping from their houses.

Mr Koenig says that "people in fear and panic can easily be manipulated." Too true. Polls in every country show that the majority of those asked support giving "the authorities" more and more power to control our lives, our actions, our speech and even our thoughts. (This is where the 5G conspiracy comes in.) People are scared, and conditioned by a half-century of "liberal democracy" to abandon to the almighty State the responsibility for their own actions.

The truth is that we already live a police state. People stopped pushing back against excesses of state control around November 5th, 1968. (Look it up.) Since then, only a few libertarians (Hello, Dr Paul!) have consistently called for smaller government and the restoration of the basic rights and freedoms which "liberal" (read "statist") politicians have gradually taken away from us.

Can the destruction of our society be avoided?

Nearing the end of his argument, Mr Koenig swings from despair to hope.
We might as well call the corona virus, Virus 'F' – for Fear. And yes, people can die of fear. WHO is dancing to the tune of the powerful, of Bill Gates, the Rockefellers, the pharma giants – and the behind-the-door (invisible) WEF-politicians and bankers. All this, under the pretext of saving the world from the invisible corona virus, from a pandemic that isn't.

As this neoliberal corrupt system comes crashing down, there will be many victims, sadly, many may not survive – a lot of misery, desolation and suffering. We, as a society should act in solidarity and do whatever we can to help the victims, to reduce the damage, to the extend our hands, arms and souls with all our positive spirits and actions. And the will-power of solidarity is enormous, almost endless.

I would add that what Mr Koenig calls "the will-power of solidarity is enormous" only if we exercise it! It's a rare thing, now, for the people to rebel against incompetent and corrupt autocracies and take back their countries. It can be done, as it was in the USA in November of 2016! "Power to the people!" is not just for the lefties!!!

If you attend the Good Friday Liturgy at a mainstream Roman Catholic church today, you will hear only a "reformed", politically correct version of the Solemn Prayers which were said in all our churches, on every Good Friday for centuries, until the disorientation caused by Vatican II. Ron Paul: End the shutdown; it’s time for resurrection!

For many millions of Christians, Easter is a time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Others may celebrate the arrival of spring and the promise of new life. Whatever one’s beliefs, after several weeks of mandatory “stay at home” orders and the complete shutdown of the US economy over the coronavirus, this self-destructive hysteria must end and we must reclaim the freedom and liberty that has provided us so much opportunity as Americans.

To do that we should first understand that much of the hysteria is being generated by a mainstream media that has long prioritized sensationalism over investigating and reporting the truth. Government bureaucrats are also exaggerating the threat of this virus and appear to be enjoying the power and control that fearful people are willingly handing over to them. One “coronavirus” bureaucrat even told us that we can no longer go to the grocery store! So we should just starve?

It is certainly possible to believe that this virus can be dangerous while at the same time pointing out that radical steps are being taken in our society – stay-at-home orders, introduction of de facto martial law, etc. – with very little knowledge of just how deadly is this disease.

On March 24th, the CDC issued an alert stating that doctors should classify “probable COVID-19” or “likely COVID-19” as Covid-19 deaths. Perhaps that explains the seeming drop-off of pneumonia deaths this year and the simultaneous spike in Covid-19 deaths as some researchers have reported.

The BBC reported last week that, “At present in the US, any death of a Covid-19 patient, no matter what the physician believes to be the direct cause, is counted for public reporting as a Covid-19 death.”

Does that sound like a scientifically sound way of determining how deadly Covid-19 really is?

What is most dangerous is that although this virus will eventually disappear, the assault on our civil liberties is not likely to be reversed. From this point on, whenever local officials, county officials, state governors, or federal bureaucrats decide there is sufficient reason to suspend the Constitution they will not hesitate to do so. Anyone who challenges the suspension of the Constitution “for our own good” will be labeled “unpatriotic” and perhaps even reported to the authorities. We have already seen hotlines springing up across the country for Americans to report other Americans who dare venture outside to enjoy the sun and build up their vitamin D protection against the coronavirus.

The government is justified in cancelling the Constitution, we are told, because we are in an emergency situation caused by the Covid-19 virus. But do people forget that the Constitution itself was written and adopted while we were in an “emergency situation”?

Did the framers of the Constitution fail to add an 11th Amendment to the Bill of Rights saying, “oh by the way, none of this counts if we get sick”? Of course not! Those who wrote our Constitution understood that these rights are not granted by the government, but rather by our Creator. Thus it was never a question as to when or under what conditions they could be suspended: the government had no authority to suspend them at all because it did not grant them in the first place.

Our country is far less at risk from the coronavirus than it is from the thousands of small and large authoritarians who have suddenly flexed their muscles across the country. President Trump would do well to end this ridiculous shutdown so that Americans can get on with their lives and get back to work.

Americans should remember the tyrants who locked them down next time they go to the ballot box. Let’s demand an end to the shutdown so we can resurrect our economy, our lives, and our liberties!

Poor Len Canayen: the year the flu cancelled the Stanley Cup

Ed. here. With the National Hockey League forced to "pause" its season -- in the words of (((Gary Bettman))) -- and probably the playoffs too, we didn't expect our National Sports Editor, Poor Len Canayen, to contribute anything until whenever play resumes, probably in the fall. But here he is, with a timely story about the year the Stanley Cup was not awarded.

Today, April 5th, A.D. 2020, is the 101st anniversary of the death of Joe Hall. [Who he? Ed.] Tanks, Hed., for asking. Joe Hall played for the 1918-19 edition of Canada's team, the Montréal Canadiens. That season, only the second for the NHL (founded in 1917), the Habs had finished at the top of the standings, and in March of 1919 went to Seattle to play the Seattle Metropolitans, of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, for the Stanley Cup.

The bleu-blanc-et-rouge were looking for revenge. They had won Lord Stanley's silverware, emblematic of North American (and therefore world) hockey supremacy, in 1916, defeating the Portland OR Rosebuds. (Seriously. That was the team's name.) But the Metropolitans thrashed the Canadiens the following year, bringing the trophy back to the west coast.

In 1918 the Toronto Arenas (or Blueshirts, depending on whose history you read) defeated the Vancouver Millionaires, [Where did they get these names? Ed.] in a series held in Toronto. This was back in the daze when transcontinental travel was a big deal, so the series alternated between the east and west, which meant that Seattle would be the venue for the 1919 rematch between the Metropolitans (no-one had dubbed them them "Mets") and the Canadiens.

Unfortunately, the "Spanish flu" got to Seattle before the Habs did. The epidemic is thought to have started at Camp Funston, in Kansas, in March 1918. From there it went with American doughboys to Europe, where it mutated in the trenches of the Great War, and spread around the world. The name "Spanish influenza" resulted from Spain's neutrality during WWI, which meant that Spanish newspapers, unlike those of the belligerent nations, did not censor news of the devastation caused by the disease.

The Spanish flu came back to North America wih wounded soldiers in the summer of 1918, and spread quickly and with deadly effect across the major cities of the USA and Canada. About 8500 Chicagoans died in September and October. In New York City, 851 people died in a single day. In Toronto, more than 1600 people died in the last three weeks of October. Montréal reported over 16,000 cases in that same month. In the East, the disease seemed to disappear by December of 2018, but in the West, Seattle suffered through its worst month of the epidemic.

The Canadiens arrived in Seattle on 18 March 1919. That spring's series had all the makings of a classic, but turned into a tragedy. Five games were hotly contested, with Seattle thrashing the Habs in games 1 and 3. Montréal prevailed in game 2. Game 4 was an epic, ending, after two 10-minute overtime periods, in a scoreless tie! Game 5 also went into overtime, with la Sainte Flannelle coming out on top.

So as April Fool's Day of 2019 dawned, the two te4ams were even, with two wins apiece and the 0-0 tie. A victory for either team in Game 6 would mean the Stanley Cup. Both teams appeared to be tiring, but it wasn't fatigue. It was the Spanish flu. On the morning of April 1st, George Kennedy, the Canadiens' owner/manager, and three players were confined to their hotel. Joe Hall and a teammate had fevers of 104 degrees and were taken to Providence Hospital.

The game that night was cancelled. There was some talk that Game 6 might be played later, perhaps in Vancouver BC, which had not been so hard hit, once the players recovered. But it was not to be. Joe Hall died in Sattle's Columbus Sanitarium on April 5th. Two teammates and the owner died later. No winner for 1919 was ever declared.

Footnote: More than half a century after the NHL started expanding in 1967, Seattle will finally get a team in the Big League, starting in the 2021-22 season, if such event ever eventuates. The name of the new franchise is as yet unknown, but it probably won't be the Metropolitans... or the Rosebuds.

Another footnote: For a long time it looked as if there couldn't possibly be another season in which there would be no Stanley Cup champion. Then along came Mr Bitchman, on whose watch the NHL saw the entire 2004-5 season cancelled. If the Cup is not awarded this year, as seems likely, it won't be his fault... this time... just the flu... again. But take heart, hockey fans. Hockey survived, the NHL survived, the Montréal Canadiens not only survived, but came back stronger than ever!

"Allahu akbar!" attacks continue in spite of Covid-19

A crazed knifeman stabbed two people to death and injured seven others outside a bakery in Romans-sur-Isère, in southern France.

Witnesses said the attacker entered the tobacco shop shown above and stabbed the owners and a customer. He then went to a nearby butcher's shop and attacked more people. Witnessess say he was yelling "Allahu akbar!" as he wielded his weapon, but Inspector Clouseau says... wait for it... the motive for the attack is not clear. The words "Islamic" and "terrorism" are stricken from the vocabulary of today's Europe.

France's feckless Prime Minister Emmanuel Macaroni tweeted, "My thoughts are with the victims of the Romans-sur-Isère attack - the injured, their families." He promised light would be shed on "this odious act." Anti-terror police have not taken over the investigation, but said they were "monitoring developments."

According to French media, the suspect is a 33-year-old man who told police he was born in Sudan in 1987. He was not known to the police or intelligence services, news website France Bleu reported.

The flics attending the scene are wearing hazmat gear because all of France is under strict lockdown, because of the corona virus. All residents must stay inside except for essential outside activities such as shopping or going to the doctor. Apparently that didn't stop the jihadi. I suppose that, if nothing else, Mohammed -- just guessing his name -- could be charged with failure to practise "social distancing"!

What is Francis trying to say? A Lenten confession, perhaps?

Catholic World News reports that in the latest Vatican yearbook, the Annuario Pontificio, the title "Vicar of Christ" does not appear on the listing for Pope Francis.

In the 2020 edition of the Annuario, the page devoted to Pope Francis is headed simply by his name: Jorge Maria Bergoglio. Past editions have always been headed by the titles accorded to the Pope, beginning with "Vicar of Jesus Christ".

Other titles have been "Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman province, Sovereign of the Vatican City-State." In the 2020 edition, these titles appear at the bottom of the page devoted to Pope Francis, where they are identified only as "historical" titles.

Such a change would undoubtedly have required the approval of the Pontiff. What, then, is the significance of this deletion?

In 2006, Pope Benedict XVI dropped another traditional title: "Patriarch of the West". The Vatican explained that the elimination of this title "could prove useful to ecumenical dialogue." The statement also noted that the significance of that title "was never very clear, and over history has become obsolete and practically unusable."

But this change is different. The title "Vicar of Jesus Christ" has a clear and unmistakable theological significance. Cardinal Gerhard Müller, the former prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, called the downgrading of the title a "theological barbarism."

To date the Vatican has not issued any explanation for the change, but Walt has a thought... or two... From the very beginning, the legitimacy of Cardinal Bergoglio's election has been called into question. There were those who said, with the weight of precedent behind them, that the position of Vicar of Christ (etc etc) wasn't open, since the incumbent, Benedict XVI, was still alive. His purported resignation, they said, was a nullity. One pope at a time is enough!

Then, leaks from within the conclave of Cardinals which chose him suggested that a good deal of campaigning and lobbying was done, contrary to the norms for such events, and that all necessary steps were taken to ensure that (as the hockey metaphor says) the puck was nailed to Jorge's stick.

Favours were promised, they said, and any number of things Pope Bergoglio said and did after his elevation to the Chair of Peter suggest that the promises were kept. Many somewhat traditional bishops were cast out, and liberals put in their places. The Church founded by Jesus Christ has now become simply the "church of accompaniment". One wonders if the next word to be deleted will be "Catholic".

And then came the Amazon Synod, which seemed even to many "moderate" Catholics -- never mind the Traditionalists -- a step too far. Was God Himself displeased? Is it merely a coincidence that the entire world, and particularly the once-Catholic countries of Italy and Spain, have been smitten with a modern-day plague -- the corona virus? Could Covid-19 be God's way of telling us -- especially you, Francis -- "Wait just a minute there!" And just in time for Easter too!

Could it be that Pope Bergoglio -- if "pope" he is -- has seen the error his ways? He was leading us into heresy -- women priests, sodomy not a sin, you don't have to be Catholic to be saved -- and now God, who will not be mocked, is telling him to set things right, and quick too! Stripping himself of the title "Vicar of Christ" could be a tacit admission that he was not legitimately elected, and therefore not pope after all.

From there, it would be easy enough to step down. In theory (as I understand it) that would leave Benedict XVI in the position. When he dies, a new pope could be elected -- one who, we pray, would be worthy of the title "Vicar of Christ".

Even during the "corona crisis" Catholics can't "call in" confessions

A few days ago, Most Rev. Leonard P. Blair, Archbishop of Hartford CT and Chairman of the US bishops' Committee on Divine Worship. ruled that administering the Sacrament of Reconciliation -- the one we Traditionalists call "Confession" -- by cellphone is not permissible according to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

In a memo to his fellow bishops, the prelate said he was informed by Archbishop Arthur Roche, secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship at the Vatican, that using a cellphone for the sacrament poses a threat against the seal of confession.

Even the use of a cellphone to help amplify the voices of a confessor and penitent who can see each other is not allowed, the memo said. In this video, Father Mike Schmitz explains why not. It's all about "matter".



In his March 27th memo, Archbishop Blair also said that in regard to anointing of the sick, the duty cannot be delegated to someone else, such as a doctor or nurse. Citing the Catechism of the Catholic Church, he noted, however, that when it is not possible for a priest to administer the sacrament of reconciliation, it is appropriate for a someone to seek absolution from sin by offering a "perfect contrition, coming from the love of God."

Such contrition, the catechism continues, "expressed by a sincere request for forgiveness...and accompanied by 'votum confessionis', that is, by the firm resolution to have recourse, as soon as possible, to sacramental confession, obtains forgiveness of sins, even mortal ones." The same standard, he wrote, can be applied to the sacrament of the sick.

Who's the April fool? "Biden's cognitive issues can no longer be ignored"

No, this is not an April fool joke. Sky News Australia commentator Rita Panahi says "no matter how hard the Democrats and their allies in the media try, Biden’s cognitive issues can no longer be ignored...."

And there's more. "We've seen Biden appear confused about key facts, policies, dates and names, even forgetting Barack Obama's name.... There is simply too much footage of his muddled rants, inexplicably bizarre outbursts and Charlie Sheen levels of confusion to try and gaslight the American public."



Walt's favourite line, however, is the one about how Sleepy Joe's handlers could be accused of "elder abuse for wheeling him out Weekend at Bernie's-style."
