No room for SoCons in Canada's "Conservative" Party

In four short months, Canada's Perpetual Opposition Party (currently calling itself the Conservative Party of Canada) will hold a leadership convention to replace the Hon. Andrew Scheer, whose inability to talk out of both sides of his mouth about abortion and "gay rights" was demonstrated in last fall's federal election.

Canada's Cuckservatives had no position on "values issues", because they were (and remain) deeply divided. On the left there are the Red Tories who will do and say whatever it takes to win (or at least not lose too badly), even if that means sounding like alt-Liberals. Opposing them are the True-Blue Tories, who claim to be social as well as fiscal conservatives, but don't like talking about killing unborn babies or the nonsense of gender ideology.

It appears that although Mr Scheep himself claims to be a SoCon, the Red Tories had the upper hand in the smoke-filled backrooms. Thus true Canuck conservatives had no party to vote for except "Mad Max" Bernier's People's Party of Canada, and even the PPC was not very strong on the pro-life side, saying merely that they would "allow debate" on the issue. The result, a whoda-thunk-it victory for the Rt. Hon. Justin Blackface, was utterly predictable.

Knives were stuck in Mr Scheep's back within 24 hours, not just be Canada's liberal media (Hello, CBC!) but by those who would be the new leader, notably Peter MacKay, who likened the Tories' loss to "having an empty net to shoot at, and missing." Mr MacHackey is now the leading contender for the leadership, with only a non-entity named Erin O'Toole [Mr or Ms? Ed.] claiming to be "true blue".

Six other "Conservatives" have entered the lists, bringing the total number of contenders for the poisoned chalice to eight. Not admitted to the list, officially announced yesterday, was Richard Richard Décarie, a social conservative whose post-secondary education includes graduate studies in Philosophy – Applied Ethics from the Université de Sherbrooke. M Décarie had submitted the required application, fee and nomination signatures, and was interviewed by the party, as required by its rules. Yet his nomination was rejected.

Why is M Décarie not being allowed to put his name forward? CPC spokesthingy Cory Hann [Ms or Mr? Ed.] couldn't say specifically why not, because "the process is confidential." Walt suggests it may have something to do with M Décarie's very public statements of his belief that being one of the alphabet people is a choice, and that government should defund abortion.

M Décarie has also said that "LGBTQ" is a liberal term, and that governments should work to uphold and restore "traditional values." Some of his opponents, including Mr MacHackey, Erin O'Toole and Marilyn Gladu [Who she? Ed.], condemned his remarks as did current MPs, party strategists and former staff. It appears that M Décarie is about as welcome in today's "Conservative" Party of Canada as a skunk at a garden party.

Walt predicts that on June 27th, Peter MacKay will be chosen as the new Cuckservative leader. Walt further predicts that he will never become Prime Minister of Canada. Never! Lifetime pct .992.

Speaking of special days, months, years, etc

In my earlier post today I admitted to nearly forgetting to mention "Stop Blaming White People" month, which ends tomorrow. I think I should be forgiven for that near-omission. There are so many bogus and useless days, months and years to celebrate, that's it's hard to keep track of them all.

And then there are the festivals. Nearly every weekend sees an ethnic festival of some kind going on in 100s of cities across the land. Then you have the harvest festivals, spring festivals (e.g. Groundhog Day, mentioned here earlier this month), national independence festivals, religious festivals, and on and on and on. One that I hadn't heard of until I saw this report in Metro News (UK), is Mexico's not-very-famous Exploding Hammer Festival.

The event, which takes place every February, involves people attaching a mix of sulpher and chlorate to the ends of sledge hammers. They they smash the hammers against rail beams, making the substance explode and send up massive clouds of smoke. Like this.

This unusual festival, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, is held in the small town of San Juan de la Vega. San Juan, so the story goes, was the victim of bandits who made off with his gold. (Where the gold came from, no-one knows.) St John the Baptist helped recover the gold, thus becoming a Mexican Robin Hood. What this has to do with exploding hammers is unclear, but never mind.

As you can see, some of the hammerers are flung backwards by the force of the explosion. One man hurt his leg in the blast and had to be carried off on a stretcher. Others were less seriously injured, bringing the total to 43 hurt. Assuredly, God and Saint John know their devotion.

"Stop blaming white people" month ends tomorrow

Agent 2 reminded me today that it is still February. Somehow I omitted to post this... errr... poster.

You still have a day and a half left to call this to the attention of people who aren't... errr... white.

A very Canadian crime story

Things are tough all across Canada. The country is in winter's icy grip. The natives are restless, demanding that Canadian "colonialists" respect their land rights, and blocking railway tracks to force the cancellation of a natural gas pipeline project in northern BC. The usual gang of antifa and loonie leftists have apprpriated the aboriginal protests for their anti-oil, anti-business, anti-white protests. The lily-livered arch-panderer Just In (for a visit) Trudeau does nothing.

Things are even worse in the western province of Alberta, where a major player in the oil patch, Teck Resources, has abandoned its Frontier tar sands mine plan. Teck's CEO says it's because "global capital markets are changing rapidly and investors and customers are increasingly looking for jurisdictions to have a framework in place that reconciles resource development and climate change, in order to produce the cleanest possible products. This does not yet exist here today."

The cancellation of the project means the loss of 7000 jobs in a province already butt-hurt from the years-long downturn in the oil industry. For many Albertans, unemployment benefits have long since run out, and other jobs just aren't available. In places like Fort MacMurray, if you're not working in the oil patch, you're not working. Period.

Airdrie AB is in the southern part of the province, not totally dependent on the oil economy, but things are still tough there, and people take desperate measures, including stealing from donation boxes at coffee shops. The Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen are hoping to identify a man who allegedly used a rubber chicken to help him steal from a box at Tim Hortons earlier this month.

Inspector Knacker told the meeja that the man placed a rubber chicken over a donation box sitting on the front counter and used the prop to conceal the box as he left the business. The incident, which happened at the Tim Hortons in Airdrie on February 11th, was captured on camera. Today, the cops released a picture of the suspect, who they described as wearing a blue sweater or jacket, a balaclava and "holding a rubber chicken." Period.

VIDEOS: Memento, homo, quia pulvis est, et in pulverem revertetur

Ed. here. I don't believe we've ever posted anything special on Ash Wednesday, but the spread of the corona virus, the political and economic turmoil in virtually every country, and the crisis in the Church makes us think that today might be a good day to get serious about the frailty of life and the necessity of thinking about the Four Last Things: Death, Judgment, Hell and Heaven*.

In 1091 Pope Urban II ordered that the blessed ashes should be received by all the faithful on Ash Wednesday as a reminder of the certainty of death and the necessity of penance. Nobles and peasants, kings and common people, all participated in the same penitential ceremony that Catholics undergo today. For at least 1600 years Catholics have heard the same words, quoted from God's words to Adam on that first Ash Wednesday upon this earth, telling Adam of the consequences of his sin: "Memento, homo, quia pulvis est, et in pulverem revertetur" (Genesis 3:19, DRV). "Remember man, that thou art dust, and unto dust thou shalt return."

*Here, in four videos, is "Death, Judgment, Hell and Heaven", the mission preached by Father Isaac Relyea at Holy Face of Jesus in Saint Catharines ON last week. May God bless you as you watch it.

James Carville: Sanders can't win by "expanding the electorate"

I've been laboring for nigh on 24 hours trying to think of something clever and original to say about Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT - Don't forget the "I" part) hyuge win in the Nevada Democratic caucuses. Something about the Dumbocrats drinking the socialist Koolaid, or lemmings stampeding towards the cliff... something like that... but alas, I'm dry. [Please keep your personal life to yourself. Ed.]

I am therefore tossing the ball to James Carville, a media personality with considerable expertise and experience in American elections. A prominent political consultant who specializes in developing framing and strategy for electoral campaigns, Mr Carville has consulted for candidates for public office in the Excited States of America and 23 foreign countries. (Funny that no foreigners have complained about US interference in their elections!)

Mr Carville, aka "the Ragin' Cajun", gained national attention for his work as the lead strategist of the successful presidential campaign of Slick Willy Clinton. He's worked for the Clinton News Network off and on from 2002 until parting company with them in 2013. The following year, he joined Fox News as a contributor. Here's his reaction to the Sanders steamroller.

Note from Ed.: There was supposed to be a short video here, with Mr Carville's comments on MSNBC. For some reason I can't get it to embed, so I can only refer you to the link on Real Clear Politics; click right here!

In case you couldn't see it, here are two key quotes.

"The entire theory [put forward by Mr Sanders and his supporters "that by expanding the electorate, increasing turnout so you can win an election, is similar to climate denial. When people say that, they're as stupid to a political scientist as a climate denier is to an atmospheric scientist."

"If you want to vote for Bernie Sanders because you feel good about his program, you don't like the banks on Wall Street or you don't like pharmaceuticals, that's legitimate, I understand that. If you're voting for him because you think he'll win the election, politically, you're a fool."

There's nothing I could possibly say that would top those comments for brevity and pithiness. Well said, sir.

VIDEO: Is Pope Francis Catholic, after all?

Somewhere between the incredible (= not to be believed) Amazon Synod, held in Rome in October, and Querida Amazonia (= Beloved Amazon), Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation, released on February 12th, something astonishing happened. The highly anticipated document, the shortest ever written by this pope, is completely silent on the two hot-button issues which dominated the discussions at the synod: the possibility of married priests and women deacons.

Instead, it focused almost entirely on the "four great dreams" - social, cultural, ecological, and ecclesial - in which Francis says he hopes to awaken an "affection and concern" for the Amazon for the whole world. - while calling for “outrage” over the treatment of the region's land and its peoples.

Although the letter is meant to be a response to the synod's final document, "The Amazon: New Paths for the Church and for Integral Ecology", Francis does not address the issue of married priests directly, saying only that "every effort should be made" to ensure people in the Amazon region, some of whom only see a priest once or twice a year, have "regular access to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist and confession."

What happened? Did Pope Bergoglio and the other modernists in the hierarchy (especially the German bishops) just blink? Have they realized at last that by introducing a "new theology" that is antithetical to the Faith of our fathers, they are leading us into heresy?

In this video, Michael Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper, says there was so much opposition coming from the ranks of faithful Catholics that, at least for the moment, "Team Francis" had to put their plans for married priests and women deacons on the back burner.

Bonus: If you haven't clicked the play button yet, there's more in this video. Mr Matt also asks and answers two very interesting questions:
Can a Catholic in good conscience vote for the twice-divorced Donald Trump? and
Is Rush Limbaugh right when he suggests that America may not be ready for President Buttigieg and the First Gentleman? Is this homophobic, or just a simple statement of fact? Watch the video!
