Greta Thunberg, TIME's person of the year

Saw this really vicious meme today and have to pass it along. [Notice Walt didn't say "share"! Ed.]

It's true that the BLMers and envirowienies don't get along very well. I love it when the lefties fight amongst themselves.

Note to censors: I really don't know where this came from. It was posted by an Indian (turban, not feathers) on a social media site, and forwarded by an anonymous reader.

Greetings from the isolation ward

Regular readers will know that Walt works from his cabin in the pines, pretty much in self-quarantine or self-isolation or self-whatever 24/7. Mrs Walt thinks it's not enough that I don't go out. Now she thinks that people who might be carrying god-knows-what disease shouldn't come in! Like Ed., for instance, who usually sits at the same desk when we put this blog together. [Oh come on. Doesn't she know I'm sterile? Ed.]

It's a problem. We could call on Poor Len Canayen for some input, but since the National Hockey League just "paused" its 2019-20 season, he says he has nothing to write about.

The NHL isn't the only thing/activity that's been "paused". The Democratic primary campaigns have ground to a halt. And the Pope is stuck in his apartment (much like my goodself) so hasn't said anything foolish lately.

So here we are, with nothing to talk about besides the corona virus, and no chance of saying anything about that that you haven't already read. Don't be surprised if there aren't many new posts until next month. About all we can do, at least for today, is point you to good things that are being written by others, elsewhere. Like "Even in the midst of a health crisis, climate fanatics never miss an opportunity", by our old buddy Rex Murphy, in the National Post, 13/3/20.

Scraped this photo from the Babylon Bee. I don't understand the panic buying of toilet paper. There will be no shortage of the print editions of the New York Times and WaPo. [And, for Canucks, the Toronto Red Star. Ed.]

A very Canadian crime story

Things are tough all across Canada. The country is in winter's icy grip. The natives are restless, demanding that Canadian "colonialists" respect their land rights, and blocking railway tracks to force the cancellation of a natural gas pipeline project in northern BC. The usual gang of antifa and loonie leftists have apprpriated the aboriginal protests for their anti-oil, anti-business, anti-white protests. The lily-livered arch-panderer Just In (for a visit) Trudeau does nothing.

Things are even worse in the western province of Alberta, where a major player in the oil patch, Teck Resources, has abandoned its Frontier tar sands mine plan. Teck's CEO says it's because "global capital markets are changing rapidly and investors and customers are increasingly looking for jurisdictions to have a framework in place that reconciles resource development and climate change, in order to produce the cleanest possible products. This does not yet exist here today."

The cancellation of the project means the loss of 7000 jobs in a province already butt-hurt from the years-long downturn in the oil industry. For many Albertans, unemployment benefits have long since run out, and other jobs just aren't available. In places like Fort MacMurray, if you're not working in the oil patch, you're not working. Period.

Airdrie AB is in the southern part of the province, not totally dependent on the oil economy, but things are still tough there, and people take desperate measures, including stealing from donation boxes at coffee shops. The Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen are hoping to identify a man who allegedly used a rubber chicken to help him steal from a box at Tim Hortons earlier this month.

Inspector Knacker told the meeja that the man placed a rubber chicken over a donation box sitting on the front counter and used the prop to conceal the box as he left the business. The incident, which happened at the Tim Hortons in Airdrie on February 11th, was captured on camera. Today, the cops released a picture of the suspect, who they described as wearing a blue sweater or jacket, a balaclava and "holding a rubber chicken." Period.

VIDEO: "There'll be no more clean water, no more animals!"

As I was saying, there's a heap big protest going on across Canada, as a handful of Indians (politically incorrect term for "First Nations") and hundreds of radical left activists block railway tracks to protest the building of a natural gas pipeline across "Indian land" claimed by the Wet'suwet'en people of northern British Columbia.

The blockades have brought traffic on much of Canada's already struggling rail network to a halt, but according to the Prime Minister of Canuckistan "reconciliation" trumps economics, and the "unfortunate situation" must be resolved through "dialogue, not force". Walt finds it strange that Mr Socks hasn't sent his ace dialoguer, Chrystia Freeland (now Deputy Prime Minister in Charge of Nothing) to negotiate with the protesters. "These people are impossible! I'm going home!"

Here's a very short video scraped from CTV News yesterday, showing what happens when you to try to dialogue with climate alarmists and professional protesters.

"There won't be any more clean drinking water or any more animals!" Dontcha love it? And by the way, does that guy sound like an Indian to you? In Canada, First Nations people have a distinctive way of speaking, which you'll hear if you watch North of 60, a great drama series [soap opera? Ed.] produced in the 1990s by (incredibly) the CBC, and still viewable on APTN (the Aboriginal Peoples TV Network) and YouTube. But I digress. That snowflake sounds like a whitey to me. And why is it that all these protesters are wearing antifa-style masks and balaclavas? Just askin'...

UPDATE ADDED at 0725: Canada's Public Safety and Emergency Unpreparedness Minister Bill Blair has just announced that the Mounties in British Columbia have agreed to withdraw from their position on Wet'suwet'en territory and barricade themselves in a nearby town named L'alamo. [Ed., please check town name.]

So Just In (from Africa) Trudeau's Liberal government has caved to a few dozen radical activists who don't even have the support of the majority of the Wet'suwet'en people, as represented by their elected (as opposed to hereditary) chiefs. In today's Canuckistan, the mob rules!

Bablyon Bee reacts to Saint Greta "Person of the Year"

Ed. here. I don't think you people (Hello, Don Cherry!) know how hard it is for me to refrain from reposting the bogus articles that the Babylon Bee runs regularly. BB is one of the funniest, and most trenchant (look it up!) blogs extant. Here, unabridged and unedited, is their take on Time magazine's naming of climate alarmist Greta Thunberg as its "Person of the Year".

Poll Finds Most People Would Rather Be Annihilated By Giant Tidal Wave Than
Continue To Be Lectured By Climate Change Activists

A new study found that most people would rather be annihilated by a giant tidal wave caused by climate change than continue to be lectured by climate change activists.

Study participants were given the option of having the earth flooded by massive tidal waves or listening to virtue-signaling, smarmy lectures by environmentalists for the next decade. Over 87% of respondents selected, "Bring on the tidal wave." A few people said they'd rather take the lectures, but after hearing a few minutes of the lectures, quickly changed their minds. Several respondents rushed straight to the ocean, arms outstretched, and asked the sea to take us all.

"Come, sweet death," one man scrawled on the survey response form after hearing just 30 seconds of a Greta Thunberg lecture. "O, sweet release that ends my suffering on this mortal plane! Embrace me in your salty arms, great wave of destiny."

"Honestly, between Greta and the climate change, I'll take the climate change," said one man in Minnesota. "Heck, it's Minnesota, don't ya know. We could use a little warming. But even if it turns out to be catastrophic -- I'll take the tidal wave."

Fires, floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, and bees also polled higher than the activists.

New for the "winter holiday"! Greta on the shelf!

A fun new "Greta on the Shelf" doll will watch you every day and fly back to the UN each night to report your climate sins to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The doll is equipped with eye sensors programmed to detect activities that are harmful to the environment. "Greta sees you when you're sleeping, she knows when you drive your SUV to the store instead of taking public transportation," the manufacturer said. "She knows if you've been bad or carbon-neutral, so be carbon-neutral for goodness' sake!"

One couple in Portland OR proudly displayed their new doll and lectured their children on the true meaning of Christmas: fighting climate change. "We're gonna play a fun game for the holidays this year! Try to be good little carbon-neutral children, or Greta will tell on you!"

"How dare you!" the doll chanted as the kids of the household left the door open while the heater was on. "You have stolen my dreams and my childhood." The doll then blasted off toward UN headquarters using its jet engines to report on the naughty children, who will receive coal in their stocking. They will be snitched on again, however, if they burn the coal for warmth.

Greta is programmed to detect activities including these:
* Leaving the light on when you exit a room
* Leaving the fridge open
* Driving an SUV
* Parents participating in illicit activities that may lead to the creation of more humans
* Using a plastic straw instead of sticking your face in a beverage and slurping
* Forgetting your reusable grocery bags at home
* Getting a cut-down Christmas tree
* Getting a carbon-heavy plastic Christmas tree
* Turning on any electric appliances
* Using the heater instead of rubbing two sticks together for warmth

Children have responded enthusiastically to the doll so far, saying things like, "Mommy, I'm scared," and "Make the bad girl go away."
