The Glorious Fourth: State of the Disunion

As we head into Independence Day 2022, things are not good in the Excited States of America.
* 1000s of flights have been cancelled, disrupting holiday travel plans.
* If you decide to drive instead of chilling at the airport for hours, you'll pay anywhere from $5 to $10 per gallon for gas.
* How about a backyard cookout then? Better get an estimate on a steak... and the salad greens too.
* Inflation is at its highest rate since the great meltdown of 2007-8, and yet
* Wall Street has slumped into bear territory, on fears of an imminent recession.

Still... it's a great country, isn't it? At least Americans aren't afflicted with the kind of looney-left anti-patriotism which has resulted in the cancellation of Canada Day, as described here on Thursday. For this one day, at least, Americans will be unite with President Brandon in expressing their love of country and confidence in its future.

Errr, maybe not. It looks as if there will be some "alternative celebrations" on the Fourth, like this one.

Walt trusts you noticed who's organizing this amazing demonstration of loyalty and patriotism. Yes, Virginia, it's the Pima County AZ Democratic Party. You'd think they'd be ashamed, wouldn't you? Or at least afraid of embarrassing their doddering leader. Well, they did take down this social media ad, claiming it was "a mistake". According to Fox News, they tweeted:

"PCDP posted a graphic advertising a women’s march which, we agree, was in poor taste. We were eager to share the event, and in our haste we used the graphic provided by the event organizer. That was a mistake, and we will do better. Make no mistake, however. We support the event which will be on July 4 at 7 pm at Reid Park. The event was organized to help women in our community grieve for the loss of their bodily autonomy, which we consider an elemental right."

This "Fuck the Fourth" event is not an aberration. It's part of a nationwide anti-American "movement" (of sorts), which started at least two years ago. Check this out.

Right. July 4th would have been a Saturday in 2020, at which time President Trump was still in office. So obviously he was the target. The lickspittle media keep telling us he lost the fake election that November, so why are "Fuck the Fourth" protests still being held? Apparently the wokesters of BLM, Antifa, the Squad et al. won't be satisfied until one of their own [like AOC? Ed.] gets their hands on the levers of power. And God help us then!

Want more? Here...

Dear patriotic American readers, this is what you're up against! Don't be distracted by claims of conspiracy and "insurrection" coming out of the current Washington circus. The real conspirators are the extreme leftists who seek to overturn the United States Constitution and overthrow those who uphold it.

If I may borrow some words put by playwright Robert Bolt into the mouth of St. Thomas More: America is planted thick with trees -- laws which guarantee our rights and freedoms. If the leftists succeed in cutting them all down, where will we stand when the wind blows.

Old copper wire shows who's ahead of the curve

Agent 9 has had a busy Christmas, but found time to send us a seasoned greeting and a little story which made us chuckle.

After having dug to a depth of ten feet last year, British scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 200 years and concluded that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 150 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the Brits, in the weeks that followed, an American archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet. Shortly after, a story was published in the New York Times: "American archaeologists, finding traces of 250-year-old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network 50 years earlier than the British."

One week later, the Canadian Department of Mines and Resources reported the following: "After digging as deep as 30 feet in Newfouondland, Jack Lucknow, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Mr Lucknow has therefore concluded that 250 years ago, Canada had already gone wireless."

Poor Len sez: Makes a guy bloody proud to be Canadian eh!

Patrick Buchanan asks: Is America becoming a failed state?

America is unable to win the wars she chooses to fight.
She cannot or will not control and defend her borders from a mass migrant invasion.
She cannot halt an outbreak of criminality and killing in her great cities.
She has not run a trade surplus in four decades.
Her dependency upon foreign producers is unprecedented.
And her budget deficits continue to break records every year — as does her soaring national debt.

Is that not the description of a failed or failing state?

Excerpted from "Is America Becoming a Failed State?",  by Patrick J. Buchanan, Taki's Magazine, 10/8/21 (before the fall of Kabul but after the handwriting was on the wall).

Yes, I know many of our readers are getting tired of seeing pessimistic articles like this, not just in the conservative media but even in the controlled MSM. So let me add that if Mr Buchanan is right [Is there any doubt? Ed.], that doesn't mean the USA is doomed. Patriotic Americans can and must wake up, rise up, and do what must be done to save the country from implosion.

A good place to start would be for those who voted Democrat in 2020 to realize that they made a huge mistake, and resolve to correct it, starting at the mid-term elections, or earlier in places where recall or other special elections will be held. If you love your country, you know what I mean. Do it!

Worth reading! "Endless wars = Endless refugees", by Michelle Malkin, in the UNZ Review, 17/8/21. Quote: "I want you to focus on what's best for Americans on American soil right here. Right now."

Worth watching! "There is no way to more permanently wreck the country!", Tucker Carlson on Fox News, 13/8/21. Spoiler alert: He's talking about mass immigration, which is causing the most profound demographic change in the US of A since the 19th century. The new census figures show 5,000,000 fewer white people than there were ten years ago -- the first decline in the white population since the 19th century!

Quote from Pedro Gonzalez, Associate Editor of ChroniclesWhite people are being marginalized in America, and you're not supposed to notice that. You're not allowed to talk about it. And if you disagree, then you're a racist!

Freedom Index: Canada 6th, UK 9th, USA... errr... lower

Canada's Fraser Institute has just released its Economic Freedom of the World report for 2014. The index, compiled annually by the Fraser Institute and public policy think tanks in the USA and Germany, uses 76 indicators of personal, civil and economic freedoms.

Why do they do this? Because economic freedom has been shown in numerous peer-reviewed studies to promote prosperity and other positive outcomes. It is a necessary condition for democratic development. It liberates people from dependence on government in a planned economy, and allows them to make their own economic and political choices.

And what is economic freedom? The 1996 report defines the concept this way:
Individuals have economic freedom when property they acquire without the use of force, fraud, or theft is protected from physical invasions by others and they are free to use, exchange, or give their property as long as their actions do not violate the identical rights of others. An index of economic freedom should measure the extent to which rightly acquired property is protected and individuals are engaged in voluntary transactions.

The 2014 report (see link at end of this post) puts Hong Kong at the top of the league table. This surprises me a bit, as virtually every month sees demonstrations and protests in the streets of Hong Kong against rule from Beijing and the absence of universal suffrage. However, we must remember that the EFW report concentrates on economics, not politics.

Second on the list is Switzerland, followed by Finland, Denmark and New Zealand. Canada, in spite of the virtual dictatorship of Steve Harper (now campaigning hard for his fourth term as Prime Minister) is in sixth place. The Disunited Kingdom is ninth, and Germany twelfth.

But (I hear you ask) what about the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave? After nearly eight years of the Obama maladministration and ever-increasing statism -- the misguided notion that the government must regulate every aspect of business and personal life -- it's not surprising to find the USA in twentieth (20th) place. Fred McMahon, the editor of the study, says the data on America shows a "significant weakening of the rule of law", an erosion of property rights and "an expansion of quasi-judicial regulations".

The least free country in the EFW index is... wait for it... Iran, with whom the USA is about to sign a treaty which will (according to Messrs Obama and Kerry) solve all the problems of the Middle East and the world. The Undemocratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Zimbabwe and Yemen round out the bottom five.

To all Walt's friends in the US of A: Happy Independence Day!

A big Wide World of Walt 4th of July greeting to all my friends and followers in the Excited States of America! "Excited" because Americans always seem to be all hyped up about something, even when the weather suggests a nice snooze in a hammock.

Walt has a little present for you Americans, a gift from your friends on the north side of the world's longest undefended border.

Walt sincerely regrets the graphic, knowing that soccer (or "football", as the foreigners call it) is not really an American game -- nor Canadian either. The singer, however, is the late, great Roger Doucet, who for years sang the national anthems at the old Montréal Forum. I have heard a lot of singers attempt the Star-Spangled Banner -- not an easy tune -- and fail. I have never heard anyone sing it better than M Doucet.

One last word. The USA is about four months away from a Very Important Election. When you vote, please don't forget the concept represented by that lady at the right of the picture. The USA is about nothing, if not LIBERTY. Don't give up any more of it!

PS - Click here to hear Roger Doucet sing both national anthems. In the video clip, which I think dates from 1976, you'll catch a glimpse of Walt's old friend, Don Cherry, behind the Boston Bruins' bench.
