VIDEO: Justice Alito disses wokesters, warns religious liberty in danger

The second annual Notre Dame Religious Liberty Summit, a project of  Notre Dame Law School's Religious Liberty Initiative, wrapped up in Rome a week ago. One of the featured speakers was Samuel Alito, an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. It was Justice Alito who wrote the majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade.

In international legal circles, it has long been considered impudent and incompetent for jurists to comment on the decisions of courts of other countries. Following the release of the Dobbs decision, several foreign politicians and celebrities took it upon themselves to decry it. They included Boris Johnson, Emmanuel Macron, Justin Trudeau, and the Duchess of Sussex's husband Harry.

Justice Alito got a lot of laughs mocking them, saying he "had the honour this term of writing I think the only Supreme Court decision in the history of that institution that has been lambasted by a whole string of foreign leaders who felt perfectly fine commenting on American law."

But, he said, "I’m not going to talk about cases from other countries. All I'm going to say is that, ultimately if we're going to win the battle to protect religious freedom in an increasingly secular society we will need more than positive law." That was the focus of his speech, which you can watch here.

 

The key point of Justice Alito's speech was his warning that religious liberty is "under attack in many places, because it is dangerous to those who want to hold complete power." The threats to religious liberty in many countries of Asia, Africa and the Middle East is obvious, but, the jurist said, in the USA, Europe and other economically advanced countries, the challenge is the increasing turning away from religion.

"Polls show," he explained, "a significant increase in the percentage of the population that rejects religion or thinks it's just not all that important, and this has a very important impact on religious liberty, because it is hard to convince people that religious liberty is worth defending, if they don’t think that religion is a good thing that deserves protection."

Reflecting on Justice Alito's speech, we would do well to remember what President Franklin Delano Roosevelt said in a State of the Union address just eleven months before Pearl Harbor. In what is now known as his Four Freedoms speech, he proposed four fundamental freedoms that people "everywhere in the world" ought to enjoy:
Freedom of speech * Freedom of worship
Freedom from want * Freedom from fear

Those freedoms, or the first two at any rate, are no less under attack today than they were in 1941. The liberal elites tell us that we should sacrifice freedom of speech and freedom of worship for reasons of equity, diversity, and inclusion, so as to achieve freedom from want and freedom from fear. 

Make no mistake! What the "wokesters" wish to impose on us is not a world free from want and fear, but a new world order of the tyranny of the secular state, which is the antithesis of the "free world" for which millions died and are dying today.

So farewell then, Prince Philip

His Royal Highness Prince Philip, consort of Her Britannic Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, died this morning, surrounded by most of his family -- you know who wasn't there -- at Windsor Castle.

Affectionately (?) dubbed "Phil the Greek" by the British satirical newspaper Private Eye, Prince Philip was actually part of a very large German-British royal family, the Battenbergs, who members sat on the thrones of Russia, Germany, Greece and Great Britain at various times in the 20th century.

Philip, Prince of Greece and Denmark, the son of Princess Alice of Battenberg and grandson of the 1st Marquess of Milford Haven, took the name Mountbatten when he became a naturalised British subject on his marriage to Princess Elizabeth in 1947.

Philip became the longest-living royal consort in British history, surpassing Queen Caroline, the wife of George III. He spent 74 years supporting his wife in a role that both defined and constricted his life. He died just two months short of his 100th birthday.

Walt didn't know Prince Philip personally, [Really?! Ed.] but was inclined to like him for being politically incorrect, and by all account not suffering fools gladly. His dislike for Crown Prince Charles was fodder for "Heir of Sorrow", a parody of a Mills & Boon bodice-ripper which appeared regularly in Private Eye. One can only imagine what he thought of Prince Harry and the Princess of Woke.

The Prince was known to be "irascible and tough-minded", not afraid to call a spade a spade. He is said to have told a British diplomat posted to Hong Kong not to stay there too long "or you'll become all slitty-eyed like them." And on viewing a rat's nest of wires on a tour of a factory in India, he remarked, "Must have been done by a local electrician." 

In the 21st century, saying those kinds of things makes one politically incorrect, and obituaries are being published even as I write describing the late Prince as "racist" and "sexist". I don't think he would care. Here's a photo, posted on WWW years ago, which we think pretty much sums up Prince Philip's view of himself and his place in the overall scheme of things.


What is the reason for the enigmatic smile on his face...and the priceless expressions on the faces of the others, especially Prince Harry? Did Prince Philip fart? Seems like he didn't take himself too seriously, and Walt says, "Good on yer, Phil! RIP."

White Jewish girl says she didn't know she was racist until...

I don't like to think that any of our readers actually read the fake "news" squeezed in among the "sponsored" stories and other clickbait featured on Yahoo!'s landing page. Why would you even go there? So I imagine you won't have see this item...
   

The happily married lady in the picture is (((Genevieve Roth))), newly hired as a "strategist" by the Prince and Princess of Woke. According to the Yahoo! story, she claims "all white people are 'rife with internalised racism and unconscious bias.'" Unconscious bias... that's the worst kind, eh!

Ms Roth  [Is that her name or her husband's? Ed.] said she realised she was racis” after marrying her husband who is... well, no need to say it. "Race is an issue in our marriage because as a white woman of privilege, I have racist tendencies written in at a cellular level," she said. 

The comment echoes an observation made by Prince Hairy, who said his own upbringing and education meant he had been ignorant about the widespread nature of racism until he met Meghan Markle, who is... well, no need to say it.

Ms Roth's chief claim to fame is that she founded "Invisible Hand" -- a "female-led, diverse team" based in New York that is now advising the Royal Woke Couple's Archewell Foundation. And here we thought the Invisible Hand was another organization, with only a branch office in New York. Learn something every day.

Footnote: I wasn't sure how to describe (((Genevieve Rot))) other than as a "Jewish girl". My mother, who was born in the 19th century, used words like "Negress" and "Jewess", to describe singers like Mahalia Jackson and Ethel Merman. Later came the term "JAP" (look it up) to describe Barbra Streisand. I understand such terms are unacceptable nowadays.

UPDATED: Walt confesses he watched That Interview

I have to admit to watching Oprah Winfrey's interview with the Prince and Princess of Woke, last night. Well, most of it, as Family Guy was on at the same time as the last half hour. This episode, dubbed "Peterminator", was so incomprerhensible that I considered switching back, but didn't want to risk throwing up... again.

As for the Royal Drama, let's just start with the premise. How anyone could have imagined that a divorced C-list actress from California would be a good diversity hire for the "Institution" (as Meghan called Britain's royal family) beggars belief. 

When the inclusive, globalist love match of the century went off the rails, the wreck was a natural for Jimmy Kimmel or Dr Phil, but Oprah signed them up and is said to be several million dollars richer for having put this drivel on the air. Good for her!

I imagine the ratings for last night's cry-and-tell were as high as Harry in his party mode. It's always fun to watch multimillionaires complain about their "hardships" and all the challenges of life amonst the plebes. 

The part the lamestream media have seized on, of course, was Meghan's heavily veiled accusations of racism. Without naming names -- "It would be damaging" -- Meghan alleged that there had been "conversations" concerning the possibility of their child being, errr, of a darker persuasion. Oprah (indignant): Whaaat?!

Said Prince Harry, who unfortunately inherited his mother's brains without her good looks, "This is how it's meant to be. You cant change it. What was different for me was the race element, because now it wasn't just about her, but it is about what she represents." Anyone who can clarify that statement is invited to send a translation to Walt at the usual address.

The usual suspects in Not-so-great Britain and elsewhere are clamouring for an investigation into "racism at Buckingham Palace." Vicky Ford, the Cuckservative government's Minister for Children [Really. I looked it up. Ed.], told the BBC that while she hadn't actually seen the full interview, the allegations of racism were "unacceptable. There is absolutely no place for racism in our society and we all need to work to make sure that doesn’t happen."

Kate Green, a Labour (read: leftist) MP, told Sky TV the comments were "shocking and distressing. I'm sure that the palace will be thinking very carefully about that, and I certainly think people will be wondering what is going to be said. But there's never any excuse, in any circumstances, for racism, and I think it is important that action is taken to investigate what are really shocking allegations."

Let's think about that. Suppose there is a thorough and independent investigation, conducted by (let's say) Baroness Amos ['n' Baron Andy? Ed.] which concludes that, like the vast majority of "humankind", Her Britannic Majesty Queen Elizabeth and her large brood prefer to associate with persons of their own race. What then? Would the Queen be asked, ever so politely, to step down to be replaced by a diversity hire like, say, the Princess Meghan and her besotted ginger-haired spouse?

I venture to say that, beyond this week, That Interview will be little noted nor long remembered. [Clever turn of phrase! Ed.] The only thing I found interesting is that the  royal eco-wienies are keeping a flock of "rescue chickens". Really. They have a cute little house called "Archie's Chick Inn". Really. I imagine they'll taste jes' fine fried, with a side of collard greens.

Harry and Floozie take up residence in Canada

Harry Windsor, the celebrity formerly known as Prince, arrived in Canada on Monday to be at the side of Meghan Markle, the biracial actress(ish) and princess wannabe, and their son Archie. Here's a cartoon comment, scraped from Blazing Cat Fur.


The paparazzi are out in full force, camped outside the cast-iron gates (papered over from the inside with white cardboard) of the not-so-royal couple's rented mansion just outside Victoria BC. [They don't really live in a cabin in the pines, as in the cartoon. Only Walt does that! Ed.] One paparazzo snapped a photo of Meghan walking two dogs -- service animals, possibly -- along a nearby trail, being trailed (geddit?) by two plainclothes cops, one British and one a Mountie. Who is paying for the mansion, the cops, etc etc? Don't as Mr Socks. He has said only that he's talking to the Queen about that little problem.

Harry and Meghan moving to Canada?

Last week, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex -- hereafter to be known simply as Harry Winsor and Meghan Markle -- sparked a crisis in the British monarchy by announcing they wanted to reduce their royal duties and spend more time in North America, while also becoming financially independent. Since Her Royal Hotness is not prepared to move back to the USA as long as Donald J. Trump is still President (which he is and will be for another five years!), they are looking at settling in The Great No-longer-white North, where Ms Markle, being biracial, will fit right in. They are pictured here about to enter Canada via the notorious hole in the World's Longest Undefended Border (TM) at Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Québec.


Since Canucks are notorious cheapskates -- you can get a canoe to tip much easier than a Canadian! -- concerns are already being expressed about who's going to be on the hook for the D-list celebs' expenses, particularly security. Mustn't have another Diana-in-the-tunnel moment in one of Her Majesty's Dominions! Will Harry and Meghan's "employment" cover their living costs? Will Meghan find British Columbia (their intended destination) too cold and wet for her liking? Will she divorce Harry when it turns out he doesn't have the combination to the royal vault? "Royal baby" tweet - British are not amused

British DJ Danny Baker is the latest quasi-celebrity to run afoul of the PC police, and in this case the boyz in blue as well. Inspector Knacker of the Yard is investigating a tweet sent out by the BBC Radio 5 Live personality making a joke about Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, the newly-born and newly-named son of Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle, the Duchess.

The tweet said, simply, "Royal baby leaves hospital", followed by a photo which the lamestream media won't publish, but have labelled "racist". Here's what all right-thinking people are objecting to.


Mr Baker's tweet was posted on Wednesday, May 8th, the same day the Duke and Duchess introduced their firstborn son to the public. Mr Baker says his tweet was not "racially motivated", but merely an ill-chosen pic lampooning the news cycle. He was immediately fired by the Beeb anyway.
