Turkish President Erdoğan predicted Brussels bombings last Friday!

The first thing Walt does when he stumbles out of bed is fire up the old rangdidio to catch up on the news of overnight disasters. The site of today's catastrophe is Brussels, the capital of Belgium, which is in virtual lockdown after explosions rocked the airport and subway system. The death toll at last count was 26, with many more injured.

According to the public transport operator, 15 people were killed and 81 injured in a blast at Maelbeek metro station. The Belgian health minister said 11 people died in two explosions at the Zaventem airport just outside Brussels. The number of killed may yet rise, as earlier reports put the airport death toll at 13.

As yet, no-one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, and no-one has said it was Muslim jihadists that did it. But Belgium's federal prosecutor said that at least one of the explosions at the airport was likely caused by a suicide bomber. He earlier described the explosions as terror attacks. And Reuters reported that a witness said he heard shouts in Arabic shortly before two blasts struck the packed airport departures area. Walt is offering 99 to 1 odds (place your bets by PayPal) that the attackers were followers of the prophet.

Hold on... Perhaps it's not fair for me to take your money. I had a tipoff from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan! This past Friday Mr. Erdoğan gave a speech at a ceremony to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli, in which he warned European countries about terrorist organizations. Here's what he said. "Once again I call on countries that directly or indirectly support terror groups. The snakes you are sleeping with can bite you any time. European countries are paying no attention as if they are dancing in a minefield. There is no reason why the bomb that exploded in Ankara cannot explode in Brussels, in any other European city."

Sadly, it's not just European leaders who are paying no attention. The "Leader of the Free World" [Who dat? Ed.] pays no attention. POTUS's would-be successor -- Hellery Clinton -- pays no attention. The Canuck celebrity who thinks he's the up-and-coming champion of progressivism -- Justin Trudeau -- pays no attention. And when someone like Donald Trump says folks like Mr. Erdoğan and Marine Le Pen (see yesterday's post) are right, and we should keep the Muslims out, they call him a racist. There are none so deaf as those who will not hear!

Marine Le Pen calls Canuck immigration policies "erroneous"

Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s Front National, was in Canada this weekend, to find out whether Canadians feel the same way as the French about the Muslim invasion of the West. The answer, apparently, is NON, probably because Canadians have not yet woken up to the fact that North America is the next target after Europe.

The wave of Islamist extremism engulfing France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, etc etc, won't stop on Europe's Atlantic coast. Once the "refugees" and asylum-seekers have overrun Europe, the next stop will be Canada and the USA. In fact 25,000 Syrians -- mainly Muslim -- have already been "welcomed" into Canada, and before he leaves office the Prez and his liberal Democrat buddies are determined to override the objections of state governors and admit 10,000 to the USA, all at taxpayers' expense of course.

Last November Mme Le Pen called putting out the welcome mat for the refugees "madness". In a presser in Québec City yesterday, she softened the tone a bit, calling the Trudeau Liberal government's decisions on immigration, particularly its welcoming of Syrian refugees, "erroneous".

Canada’s political leaders, she said, have shown little regard for the consequences of their decisions. Those consequences include the accelerating demands of religious minorities, such as providing space for prayer or the establishment of religious courts. The result can only be increased religious tensions. As Mme Le Pen puts it, "A multicultural society is a society in conflict."

At about the same time Mme Le Pen was speaking, Pope Francis, in his homily at Palm Sunday Mass, called on Christians to stop being "indifferent" to the plight of the refugees. Walt thinks the Pope got it wrong. There are many good Christians who are far from indifferent. They are opposed to the put-out-the-welcome-mat policies of their government. Why? Because they see their religion and their culture as under threat. Which is what Mme Le Pen was saying. I'd say her view of the situation is considerably more clear than that of the Holy Father.

The Color of Crime is a report from the New Century Foundation and American Renaissance on differences in crime rates by race, bias in the justice system, and interracial crime. First published as a monograph in 1999, it has now been updated and expanded in a just-released 2016 edition.

What is the predominant colour of crime in America? No prizes if you guessed BLACK. Blacks are 27 times more likely to attack whites than vice versa, six times more likely than non-blacks to commit murder, and 12 times more likely to murder someone of another race than to be murdered by someone of another race. BROWN (Hispanic) crime ranks second. White and Asian crime come in third and fourth.

* The evidence suggests that if there is police racial bias in arrests it is negligible. Victim and witness surveys show that police arrest violent criminals in close proportion to the rates at which criminals of different races commit violent crimes.

* There are dramatic race differences in crime rates. Asians have the lowest rates, followed by whites, and then Hispanics. Blacks have notably high crime rates. This pattern holds true for virtually all crime categories and for virtually all age groups.

* In 2013, a black was six times more likely than a non-black to commit murder, and 12 times more likely to murder someone of another race than to be murdered by someone of another race.

* In 2013, of the approximately 660,000 crimes of interracial violence that involved blacks and whites, blacks were the perpetrators 85% of the time. This meant a black person was 27 times more likely to attack a white person than vice versa. A Hispanic was eight times more likely to attack a white person than vice versa.

* In 2014 in New York City, a black was 31 times more likely than a white to be arrested for murder, and a Hispanic was 12.4 times more likely. For the crime of "shooting" (firing a bullet that hits someone), a black was 98.4 times more likely than a white to be arrested, and a Hispanic was 23.6 times more likely.

* If New York City were all white, the murder rate would drop by 91%, the robbery rate by 81%, and the shootings rate by 97%.

* In an all-white Chicago, murder would decline 90%, rape by 81%, and robbery by 90%.

* In 2015, a black person was 2.45 times more likely than a white person to be shot and killed by the police. A Hispanic person was 1.21 times more likely. These figures are well within what would be expected given race differences in crime rates and likelihood to resist arrest.

* In 2015, police killings of blacks accounted for approximately 4% of homicides of blacks. Police killings of unarmed blacks accounted for approximately 0.6% of homicides of blacks. The overwhelming majority of black homicide victims (93%) were killed by blacks.

* Both violent and non-violent crime has been declining in the United States since a high in 1993. 2015 saw a disturbing rise in murder in major American cities that some observers associated with "depolicing" in response to intense media and public scrutiny of police activity.

Why the Danes are the happiest people in the world

Today we have a nice picture of some smiling citizens of the happiest country in the world.

Yes, dear readers, they're Danes. Aren't they great? [Geddit? Ed. ... Great Danes! Geddit now?] Every year, the World Happiness Report surveys numerous people from various countries around the world to find out which country has the happiest population. [Geddit? That's why it's called the "World Happiness Report". Ed. Geddit now?] This year’s winner is Denmark, followed closely by Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway. Canada ranked 6th. And the USA? Errr, 13th. And that was before Super Tuesday!

The lamestream media have been full of stories on the happiness of Danes, extolling Denmark's liberal democracy, managed economy, peacefulness and prosperity. What they don't mention, though, is the fact that Denmark's society is remarkably homogenous. As the picture shows, most Danes are white Scandinavians who share a common language, culture and religion. And their laws and policies and immigration and designed to keep it that way.

Just a couple of months ago, the Danish parliament overwhelmingly passed a bill to solidify Denmark’s reputation as Western Europe’s least attractive country for refugees. The law empowers Danish authorities to seize any assets exceeding $1450 from asylum-seekers in order to help pay for the migrants' subsistence in the country. It also extends, from one year to three, the period that those who are resettled must wait to apply for family members to join them in Denmark.

Why did the Danes do this? It's not that they haven't welcomed immigrants in the past. Over the course of the 20th century, the country of nearly 6 million became home to refugees and immigrants from the Soviet bloc, the Balkans, and beyond. Today, immigrants and their descendants account for 10% percent of Denmark'se total population. Denmark has also been a prominent advocate for refugees and asylum-seekers.

Perhaps that last phrase should read "true refugees and asylum-seekers", not to be confused with the bogus refugees and economic migrants from countries such as Morocco, Algeria and Pakistan [That may be stretching it a bit. Ed.] now making a pit stop in Denmark en route to Sweden or having missed the exit for Germany. In 2015, 21,000 people sought asylum in Denmark -- up from 14,815 asylum applications in 2014 and 7,557 in 2013. These are numbers that the Danish welfare state -- which guarantees free health care, education and other benefits to every resident -- is struggling to handle.

According to "How Not to Welcome Refugees" (Atlantic Monthly, Jan. 2016), the Danish government last August cut social benefits to refugees and immigrants by 45%, in a move marketed as an "integration benefit". To ensure the message was clearly received, they advertised the benefit cut, as well as other government policies that asylum-seekers might find unappealing, in newspapers in Lebanon, which has a large refugee population.

More recently, the government proposed moving refugees from urban housing to camps outside cities, an initiative that would "shift the focus of government immigration policy to repatriation rather than integration". What that means -- in plain English (or Danish) -- is they want all the refugees and asylum-seekers to go back where they came from!

Sometimes the hints are a little more subtle. According to the same article, a Danish city council mandated the placement of pork on municipal menus (observant Muslims don’t eat pork), including at schools and daycare centres. That's quite a contrast with what the Germans are doing. See "German schools won't offend Muslims, drop sausage from lunch menus", WWW 7/3/16. Walt is investigating the possibility that Donald Trump is not a German Nazi, as his detractors say, but a Dane!

To return to the question of why the Danes are whipping the Willkommen mat out from under the feet of the Muslim invaders, the explanation is simple. It's what the Danish people want! One recent poll showed that 37% of voters opposed offering more residence permits to migrants. Another poll indicated that 70% felt the refugee crisis constituted the most important issue on the political agenda.

An official of the Migration Policy Institute -- an organization which does nicely out of being nice to migrants -- characterized the average Dane's attitude thus: "I want to protect the fact that my country, a small country, is an extremely wealthy country; that it provides these exceptional benefits to its people; and I don’t want to compromise my ability to receive those benefits simply because more and more people want to come in." In other words, "We're happy because we're here and they're not." Sorry, liberals, but that's human nature.

Ezra Levant comments on Muslim attack on Canadian soldiers

Walt wasn't the only one to take note of the refusal of the Canadian meeja and Toronto police to make any connection between Monday's terrorist attack on a Canadian Armed Forces recruiting centre in Toronto and the religion of the attacker. See "2 Canuck soldiers stabbed by Muslim terrorist ... IN TORONTO!", WWW 14/3/16.

Toronto police chief Saunders had to admit, the next morning that the words uttered by Ayanie Hassan Ali (pictured) that caused the cops so much "concern" were "Allah made me do it!" But, Chief Saunders warned, we'd better not get into "that Islamophobia thing". Wouldn't be politically correct, you know, to mention that Allah is what Muslims call the One God that we supposedly all worship. Mr. Ali is a Muslim. His religion is called Islam. That's the word that no good pro-diversity Canadian will say.

Ezra Levant, of course, is not that kind of Canadian. He is not afraid to call a spade a spade, or a knife-wielding Muslim an Islamic extremist. Here's what Mr. Levant wrote in his blog today, under the heading "Islam: The word Canada’s police and media refuse to say".

Yesterday a 27-year-old Muslim man walked into a Canadian Armed Forces recruiting office in North Toronto and started stabbing soldiers, saying that he was doing it for Allah, the Muslim god. But at a press conference, Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders got whiny at the mere suggestion that a Muslim committing terrorism in the name of Islam might be... an Islamic terrorist. It was weird to watch.

This terrorist was born in Canada. But he decided to hate us and kill us, starting with symbols of our country. What did this? Well, the one thing so terrifying that Chief Saunders and the CBC and most of the rest of the media won’t dare even name: Islam.

Archbishop of Canterbury speaks out on refugees, Islamic extremism

Unlike the Paranoid States of America, the so-called United Kingdom does not insist on the separation of church and state. Quite the opposite. The Church of English is the "established" (official) church of, errr, England [Duh! Ed.] and the Queen of England is "Fidei Defensor" (Defender of the Faith), etc etc. As well, senior members of the Anglican hierarchy have positions in the British Parliament as "Lords Spiritual". So it is that the Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the C of E, occasionally makes public his opinions on matters political.

The incumbent Archbishop, Rt. Rev. Justin Welby, gave a lengthy interview to Politics Home, Parliament’s weekly magazine, in which he called upon Britons to be welcoming to migrants but said that concerns about assimilating them into British society are not racist. "There is a tendency to say 'those people are racist', which is just outrageous, absolutely outrageous,>" said Britain's chief cleric. "Fear is a valid emotion at a time of such colossal crisis. This is one of the greatest movements of people in human history. Just enormous. And to be anxious about that is very reasonable."

Archbishop Welby accepts that, politically, the debate around refugees and migrants is deeply divisive, and says concerns about the pressure new arrivals could place on communities and services are entirely legitimate. "In fragile communities particularly – and I’ve worked in many areas with very fragile communities over my time as a clergyman – there is a genuine fear: what happens about housing? What happens about jobs? What happens about access to health services? There is a genuine fear. And it is really important that that fear is listened to and addressed. There have to be resources put in place that address those fears."

Speaking of the jihad being waged by ISIS and other Islamic extremists against the West, Archbishop Welby warned that, "For the first time in centuries in this country ... we find ourselves involved in conflict which has very, very significant theological aspects. Not only in the Middle East but around the world, in all kinds of places, you’re seeing the outworking of that. You’re seeing it in Libya, in Nigeria, Somalia, Yemen, right across the Levant and Mesopotamia.... And therefore an intelligent response to this must include theological and religious literacy, and an understanding of what drives people when they are caught up in religious ideas."

Internationally, he opines, that means confronting those states, in particular Saudi Arabia, that have aided the development of extremism and violence. "The key thing is, if we are going to deal with extremism, mainstream religious leaders – which within many parts of the Islamic world includes governments – must be very, very clear about taking responsibility for the violence within their own traditions ... and tackling that effectively. That will mean places like Saudi Arabia tackling extremist thinking within their own tradition. Much support has come from within those countries, and they need to be challenged on that. They need to stamp out the support for the extremist views from within their own societies."

In order to be fully successful, the Archbishop said, the struggle against religious violence and extremism must involve a domestic component too. He offered a staunch defence of the UK’s own "Judeo-Christian tradition", and warned against attempts to dilute those values out of a misplaced fear of causing offence.
"I think you’ve got to be very clear about rights and wrongs," he said. "You can’t turn a blind eye, in any way at all."

This, he added, is where secularism too often goes wrong. A successful multi-faith society, he believes, should not view faith as a threat to be pushed to the margins, nor identity as a zero-sum game of exchange, where different groups deny their values to avoid alienating others. "We need to be confident about our own heritage, our Judeo-Christian heritage, whether we’re believers or not," he says. "That is what has shaped our own values, and we need to be confident in that."
