Walt's nominee for Canadian hero of the year is Carolyn Burjoski, then a teacher in the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), who was silenced in 2022 after expressing to the board her concerns about library books with content supporting gender transitions (read: sex change operations) for young people.

Board Chair Scott Piatkowski halted Ms Burjoski's presentation at a WRDSB meeting for comments she rnade which he alleged violated the Ontario Human Rights Code. He later described the teacher's comments as "transphobic" and "questioning trans people's right to exist."

Ms Burjoski fought back -- a shining example of the kind of "resistance" which is Walt's theme today. In May 2022, she filed a defamation lawsuit against the WRDSB and Chairman Scott. The board responded by bringing a motion to have the suit thrown out. In this short video, Ms Burjoski speaks about what happened.

    

On November 23rd of this year, Mr Justice James Ramsay of the Ontario Superior Court dismissed the WRDSB's motion, and ordered the Board to pay Ms Burjoski's costs in the amount of C$30,000 (nearly $22,000 in real money). 

Judge Ramsay ruled that Ms Burjoski's lawsuit against the school board should be allowed to proceed, and... yes, there's more... called the comments made against her "defamatory." Said the judge, "They accused her of breaching the Human Rights Code, questioning the right of trans persons to exist and engaging in speech that included hate. She did not do any of those things. 

"The chairman of the board acted with malice or at least, with a reckless disregard for the truth. He had made an embarrassingly erroneous and arbitrary decision to silence a legitimate expression of opinion and he was widely criticized for it. It is not a stretch to infer that, realizing that, he tried to justiff himself with the public by assassinating the plaintiff s character." 

Furthermore, the judge said, human rights legislation "does not prohibit public discussion of anything," and "what happened here should not happen in a democratic society." 

Ms Burjoski's legal victory shows that parents who want to speak up at school board meetings to voice their concerns need not fear being silenced. After this excellent start to her ongoing legal battle to hold the WRDSB accountable, Ms Burjoski will now continue with her defamation suit. But she will need your help. 

In legal affairs such as this, the process is the punishment. The stress of the litigation forced her to go on leave from her teaching position, and the money she's supposed to get from the Board doesn't even cover her actual costs so far. Ms Burjoski.

"Pandemics, race riots are part of the price we pay for having big cities"

The headline is adapted from a line in "The City is Killing America: America's real problem are urban problems", by Daniel Greenfield, in Frontpage Mag, 21/10/20. Mr Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

In this lengthy and thoughtful article, Mr Greenfield traces the rise of American cities, and their problems, from the early days through the Civil War and the industrial age into the urban decay and despair which blight the once-great cities of todays Disunited States.

He concludes that cities like New York and San Francisco, not to mention Seattle and Portland -- all of them run by Democrats -- are the breeding grounds and incubators for pandemics (Covid-19 is just one) and "mostly peaceful protests" (read: race riots) which are destroying America, literally.

By why pick on Seattle? Google images for Chicago, Buffalo, Newark, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Boston or virtually any US city, especially those on the "blue coasts".

And then there's Detroit. You may remember seeing "Quiz: Which American city has been occupied 3 times by the US Army?" on WWW 3/12/19. Walt shared a positive review of Detroit: An American Autopsy, by Charlie LeDuff, Penguin Press, 2013, along with just two of the excellent photos to be found in an excellent photo essay at the end of that book. It's depressing but compelling reading.

Mr Greenfield writes: Pandemic maps of the death toll show the deaths concentrating around major cities before making the slow trek from urban into suburban and eventually rural areas. The urban lockdowns didn’t stop the spread of the virus. What they really did was trap poor and middle class residents in urban areas, while the wealthy fled, and the virus spread to urbanites with the least mobility.

The people with the worst immune systems, in the densest living conditions, and the least ability to get up and leave, suffered the most, from nursing home patients to minorities with large families. The general pattern was historically familiar from the Middle Ages, and the only thing that our public health experts proved is that they weren’t any smarter than medieval peasants.

But the coronavirus is an urban problem and all the official solutions to it are urban solutions. And the urban problems and their solutions are killing us and taking down the whole country.

Urbanization has become a pyramid scheme taking over entire states, while hollowing out the more conservative rural areas, turning red states blue, and leaving everyone except those at the top of the pyramid scheme poorer with each generation.

America is no longer divided between the old geographies of North and South, but the new geographies of density, between cities and their suburbs, and rural areas and small towns. The latter represent the old American communities, while the former showcase the new feudal order in which great suburban wealth and urban poverty combine into radical political alignment. 

That’s the so-called “resistance”, not by the disempowered, but by the politically privileged....

The urban model hasn’t worked for America in sixty years. The pandemic has put it on the verge of collapse as the wealthy industries that made cities their base flee into virtual workspaces. It’s time to rethink and defund cities as the hubs of our economy and our nation....

Envisioning a less dense and more open country will heal many of our social and economic ills. Urban areas have concentrated political radicalism and blight. Universities have become their own radical cities. Municipalities have built networks of crony companies around themselves. Density has destroyed communities and families while depriving people of a meaningful life.

Reducing immigration can slow down population growth to sustainably match our economy and replacing cities with communities can allow our society to heal from its urban wounds. America was built around communities, not cities. It can be rebuilt around communities again.

The city is too big to fail and that means that the country is dying of its failures. We can either keep the city alive at the cost of the country, or let the city fail so that the country can live.

Dems/liberals/Soros preparing to hijack the election

It's quiet out there. Too quiet. OK, so it's a movie cliché, but it's my impression as I surf the net and (occasionally watch the idiot's lantern) looking for real news about the progress (?) of the 2020 election campaign. 

The anti-social distancing imposed on us by the state in consequence of the Dempanic has something to do with it. It's not just Sleepy Joe Biden who's hiding in the basement. Politicians are simply not out there doing "retail politics". Hands remain unshaken. Babies remain unkissed. Corn dogs are uneaten at state fairs. [What state fairs? They're all cancelled! Ed.] Kamala Harris makes "news" by wearing a certain brand of running shoes. Nothing is going on in public, where we can see and hear what they're doing. It's all in the courtrooms and smoke-filled back rooms. 

The news from the courtrooms is worrisome. A lot of Democratically-elected/appointed judges are laying the groundwork for a presidential election which will be decided not at the ballot box but by judges. Yes, there will be ballot boxes, but, state by state, liberal judges are giving the Big Blue OK to mail-in voting, aka cheating-by-mail. 

Earlier this week, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court extended the state's absentee ballot deadline to three days after the election (!) and approved of the use of mail-in ballot drop boxes, a big legal win for the Dumbocrats in the key battleground state. The case, which was brought by the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, is similar to another one being litigated in federal court, which was put on pause while the state supreme court considered the matter.

What's wrong with mail-in voting, I hear you ask. Given the efficiency of the USPS, is it not reasonable to extend the deadline for receipt of the mail votes until a few days after polling day? Dear reader, this is Pennsylvania we're talking about. Stories abound about howvotes are counted in Philthydelphia, where, if it looks like Democrats are trailing, calls are made to certain precincts which haven't reported yet. When polling officials are asked (the story goes) how many votes have been cast for the Democratic candidate, the response is "How many do you need?" 

But (I hear you asking, again) how can they do that if the only envelopes to be opened and counted have to bear a postmark not later than polling day? Walt is a stamp collector [Surprised? Ed.], and can assure you that it's not hard at all to forge a postmark. Or you could even get a real postmark, antedated, from a co-operative USPS employee who "forgot" to change the date on the handstamp. The possibilities for fraud are many and various.

   

But the anti-Trump forces (and that's the right word) aren't going to leave it to cheating-by-mail or compliant courts to ensure that the presidential election is left to the American people, who they think can't be trusted not to repeat the "mistake" they made in 2016. 

According to Breitbart News, a massive network of well funded left-wing activists and progressive groups are training, organizing, and planning to mobilize millions of Americans should President Trump "contest the election results," refuse to concede, or claim an early victory. 

The article goes on to say that more than 80 advocacy groups and grassroots organizations have joined in a broad coalition calling itself "Protect the Results", which proclaims that "we cannot ignore the threat that Trump poses to our democracy and a peaceful transition of power."

Who's behind this? Do you really need to ask? The coalition is a joint project of Indivisible and Stand Up America, two left-wing groups founded in response to President Trump’s 2016 election and whose goals are "to organize and resist Trump’s dangerous agenda" and "to defeat Trump and his enablers." Seeking to "protect" election results by use of its millions of members, the coalition calls to "take coordinated action" and "prepare for a potential post-election crisis."

Both Indivisible and Stand up America are part of the Soros-funded Democracy Alliance, the largest network of donors dedicated to building the progressive movement in the USA. In 2017, DA developed a "resistance map" -- a mix of anti-Trump groups it recommends its members donate to, many of which are now part of Protect the Results. 

Having likened President Trump to a dictator, left-wing billionaire George Soros declared in a recent interview that Trump is dangerous, is "fighting" for his political life, and will do "anything to remain in power." Hardly surprising, then, that Soros-backed groups are leading the so-called post-Election Day "resistance".

Some dare call it treason II

Some dare call it treason!

Walt's agent in Washington -- so anonymous that he doesn't even have a number! -- reports that Jeff Bezos, owner of the WaPo, was like the fly on the rim of the toilet bowl yesterday, when he was told that the anonymous, gutless traitor inside the White House had gone to the New York Times with his/her/zer story -- and that's the right word -- of how a brave cabal in the administration was protecting America from President Trump. Walt trusts Mr Bezos feels better seeing that the NYT op-ed piece has been met with less than universal approval.

Speculation is rife as to the authorship of this amateurish, scandalos, scurrilous POS. Wouldn't it be funny if there is no patriotic anti-Trumper working his/her/zer ass off to undermining POTUS from a rathole somewhere in the West Wing? Suppose that the piece is the fabrication of a committee of "resisters" who got too deeply into the sauce in the NYT boardroom in an orgy of wishful thinking? Until a name is put on the piece, we have to regard that as a possibility.

But it's also a possibility that there is a real person, or a group of people, who are, as the article says, "working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations." Perhaps he/they are sincere, having drunk deeply of the Koolaid ladled out by the Prez, Mr and Mrs Clinton, and of course the Times itself. Even so, Walt asks, whatever happened to the concept of fidelity to the oath one takes on assuming high office? Whatever happened to loyalty? Does all that go out the window if you find yourself with a boss you don't like?

Yesterday evening POTUS tweeted a one-word comment on the article.

The lefties immediately put their fine legal minds to that tweet, and concluded that (as usual) President Trump was lying, because Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution of the United States provides two fairly narrow definitions of "treason" -- "aid and comfort" and "levying war" -- and publishing an attack in a newspaper doesn't fit either of them. But, dear "resisters", that's not what we're talking about. Here's a broader, more apt definition.

Treason: (1) the crime of betraying one's country, especially by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government.
(2) the action of betraying someone or something. Synonyms: treachery, disloyalty, betrayal, faithlessness.
That's what POTUS meant, I'm sure, and that's what I mean when I ask "Whatever happened to loyalty?" If you disagree with the person to whom your loyalty is owed, the first thing to do is confront him in person -- not anonymously -- with your concerns. If he won't respond or won't even listen -- as in the case of Pope Francis and the dubia -- you might publish your questions, but if you wish them to be taken seriously, you have an obligation to identify yourself. And finally, if no satisfactory response is forthcoming, the honourable thing to do is resign.

The phrase "none dare call it treason" first appeared in an epigram by Elizabethan writer John Harington:
Treason doth neuer prosper? What's the Reason? for if it prosper none dare call it treason.
In other words... if everyone agrees with what you say, no-one will call it treasonous. But not everyone agrees with the unsigned hatchet job which appeared in the Times. It is not "prospering". POTUS calls it treason. I call it treason. What do you call it?
