Regular readers know that Walt writes and views things as a traditional Catholic. A reader thinks that the evangelical Protestant voice should be heard once in a while, and being a great believer in freedom of speech, I can only. agree. [Hint from Ed.: That's why we encourage comments!]Our reader sent along a link to this excellent video which appeared on YouTube recently. Pastor Terry Somerville, of Total Change Ministries, gives 5 reasons (in 20 minutes) why he supports Max Bernier's People's Party of Canada. I may not agree with Mr Somerville on matters of faith, but I sure agree with him on this one!

Saint Greta Thunberg calls out world leaders in UN speech
Saint Greta Thunberg, the international mascot for climate alarmism, appeared at the Disunited Nations yesterday to excoriate world leaders for their lack of interest in keeping the sky from falling, which could happen any day now!
"People are suffering, people are dying," she told those who bothered to attend the Climate Action Summit [sic]. "Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth.... You are failing us, but the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us, I say: We will never forgive you."
The dear child didn't mention Still-President Trump by name. He had already walked out of the Summit after enduring about 14 minutes of that kind of drivel. But he heard or read at least some of her remarks, and responded on Twitter, where he called her
Michael Knowles, of Fox News, was not so kind. He referred to Ms Thunberg as "a mentally ill Swedish child who is being exploited by her parents and by the international left", then doubled down and called her "mentally ill" a second time. The network, obviously tiring of being accused of political incorrectness, subsequently apologized for Mr Knowles' remarks.
Footnote for Canadian readers: Chasseur Dephoques, from Saint-Louis-du-Ha!Ha! QC (you can look it up), wants to know who represented his country at the great Summit. Well, Hunter, Climate Barbie (aka Catherine McKenna), the Minister of the Environment, was too busy campaigning to save her seat in Parliament. And her boss, Just In Trudeau, was seen (in whiteface, mind you) in Niagara Falls, chucking a baby under the bus [chin, shurely! Ed.] So it feel to a low-level minion to hold aloft the red maple leaf. We didn't get the minion's name. Sorry.
Further reading: "500 Scientists Write UN: 'There Is No Climate Emergency'", by Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D., in Breitbart News, 24/9/19. Lead paragraph: "More than 500 scientists and professionals in climate and related fields have sent a “European Climate Declaration” to the Secretary-General of the United Nations asking for a long-overdue, high-level, open debate on climate change."

VIDEO: Greta Thunberg: "International mascot for climate alarmism"
Yes, folks, it's Greta Thunberg, the incarnation of Pippi Longstocking. Or shall we say, the new Malala Yousufzai. Except that instead of preaching peace and love (and not all Muslims are evil), Miss Thunberg is raising her tiny little-girl voice to warn us that the sky is falling, so we should face up the climate emergency (which no-one doubts) and Go Green immediately. Or else! Check out this video, posted on Canada's Global TV website, of Miss Thunberg's recent visit (along with "fellow youth activists") to the Disunited Nations.
Did you ask yourself, "What's wrong with that girl?!" She's 16, as old or older than some of the young women accompanying her. Why does she dress like that? [Maybe her handlers... errr, parents... dress her. Ed.] Why does she talk like that? WTF is she trying to prove?
Maxime Bernier, leader of the People's Party of Canada, has answered those questions in an eight-part Tweetstorm about the "international mascot for climate alarmism". He calls her "mentally unstable" and says she is being used by the left as "a convenient shield". Direct quote from part 4/8: "@GretaThunberg is clearly mentally unstable. Not only autistic, but obsessive-compulsive, eating disorder, depression and lethargy, and she lives in a constant state of fear. She wants us to feel the same: 'I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I fear every day.'"
And from part 6/8: "My concern is not for @GretaThunberg’s feelings, but for the millions of Canadians and people in other countries who will be poorer, will suffer and have their lives upended if we let her and the movement she represents impose their radical ideas."
But WHY? From parts 1/8 through 3/8: "The goal of the green Left is to radically transform our society through hysterical fear that the end of the world is coming and we have no choice but to give up our freedoms and way of life. Their agenda is clear. Thunberg: 'We must change almost everything in our current society.'
"They want to make us poorer and restrict everything from housing, transportation, food, travel, and what we consume, to even having babies. They don’t care about democracy and say there is no time left for debate. Opposition or expression of doubt must be silenced. We must make those radical changes NOW."

Some of the replies are worth noting. Challenging those who accused "Mad Max" of bullying an innocent child, Craig Tyler tweeted: "The only ones responsible for Greta’s current position are the people putting her there." Like who? Fingers are being pointed at... wait for it... (((George Soros))). Who else has the bucks to ferry her on a luxury yacht (solar- and wind-powered, of course) from Europe to New York? Well???
Further viewing (added 4/9/19): "'Facts don't matter' with global warming", with Sky News (Australia) host Andrew Bolt. Quote: "Global warming isn't a science. It's a religion!"

Red Green on climate change: we're getting too comfortable
First it was "global warming". After a couple of unusually harsh winters, the Luddites, liberals and tree-huggers changed the the name of the game to "climate change". That way they were covered no matter whether the temperature went up or down. But ordinary people like Walt (and you, dear reader) remain unconvinced. So now it's been upgraded to a "CLIMATE EMERGENCY". So says the Liberal majority in Canada's House of Commons, in a vote taken in the last days of the current Parliament.
Last night the Canuck Minister of the Environment and Climate Change [sic] Catherine McKenna (aka "Climate Barbie") put forward a motion describing climate change as a "real and urgent crisis, driven by human activity." In their wisdom, the MPs noted how the "crisis" is impacting Canadians, and affirmed the need to pursue clean growth methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The House of Commons passed the motion declaring a national climate emergency, and supporting Canada’s commitment to meet the Paris Agreement emissions targets, by a vote of 186-63, with only Andrew Scheer's Conservatives mildly opposed.
"CLIMATE EMERGENCY! Lordy, lordy! The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" Walt doesn't believe it. Every day, when I log into Win10, Bill Gates shows me pictures from around the world of beautiful natural landscapes, untouched by fire, flood or other disasters attributable to "climate change". Here is a picture I took just a couple of weeks ago -- postcard quality, if I do say so myself -- of one such scene.
When Two Jack Lake dries up, or is covered in ice in July, or a bubbling brown pool of shit, then and only then can you talk to me about "climate emergency"!
On the same point, kind of... I just stumbled upon a short essay by my old buddy Steve Smith (aka Red Green), from Duct Tape Is Not Enough (Hatherleigh Press 2002). It's called "We're Getting Too Comfortable".
Every generation gets a little wimpier than the one before it. Our ancestors lived in wooden shacks without running water or electricity. We have central heat, central air, central vac...humidifiers, dehumidifiers, carbon filters, ozone detectors, smoke detectors, chest protectors, bomb deflectors and house inspectors.
We can push one button in our house and another in our car and as long as we have an attached garage, we will never leave an atmosphere of constant temperature, humidity, oxygen content, and clarity. It makes for an easy, comfortable life, but, over time, Mother Nature will devolve us to the point where we can't handle any change in our environment.
Sure it might be nice to never shiver or sweat -- but not if it means that every time you open the fridge or oven door, you have a massive cardiac infarction. So don't try so hard to make it so easy. Human beings survive a lot better when they have something to fight against.
