VIDEO: Michael Matt: Canuck residential schools hoax exposed

In the Great No-longer-white North, the latest sin against political correctness and the progressive agenda is residential school denialism. "Wozzat?" (I hear you ask.) According to the Royal Society of Canada -- a club for the intelligentsia (read: liberal elites) -- it's "a strategy used to manipulate and undermine the realities of Indigenous Peoples' painful experiences under Canadian colonialism to protect the status quo."

Is that woke, or what? But wait, there's more. In the very next sentence, university professors (of course) Daniel Heath Justice [sic] and Sean Carleton go on to say: "An honest accounting of the past makes possible an honourable future — but only if Canadians have the courage to face it."

In the two years since then, the whole residential schools "genocide" hoax has come crashing down, as investigation of the supposed "mass graves" has found not one body... not one set of remains... no evidence to substantiate the claims of the anti-Catholic secular humanists who dominate the Canadian polity.

VIDEO: Gavin McInnes explains what's wrong with modern education

It's been a while since we've reposted a Gavin McInnes video. In this one, released earlier this week, one of Walt's favourite rebels lists the many ways children are being harmed -- "brainwashed" is a better word -- by "education," starting as early as kindergarten. A bit long, at 38 minutes, but well worth watching, especially if you have school-age kids. Time to consider home schooling? You bet!



Note about Catholic schools: If you live in a jurisdiction, like Ontario, where Catholic schools are publicly funded -- paid for out of your taxes -- wipe the smile off your face. If they take the government's dollar (your dollar) they are obliged to march to the government's politically correct, liberal secular humanist tune. That includes things like Kathleen Wynne's pro-queer sex education curriculum, which has been the subject of many posts here on WWW. To see the list, enter "sex education" in the search window.

Footnote: Andrew Scheer, the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, a practising Catholics, sends his children (five "so far", he says) to an independent (Christian, non-government funded) school. He has promised to give tax credits to parents who do the same.

Walt makes a pilgrimage to see "Saint Vincent"

Mrs. Walt had been nagging me for years, literally, that I don't take her to the movies any more. My excuse that the last one we went to -- Johnny Depp's The Rum Diary -- was one of the all-time great stinkeroos, had worn a bit thin. "That was nearly three years ago!", she said.

I countered that there are very few good movies coming out of Hollywood/Bollywood/Nollywood these days, just horror/action movies involving lots of loud noise, violence, and scary and depressing stuff. Why, I asked, aren't there any cheerful and/or uplifting movies? "Here's one that's right up your alley," the missus replied. "It's about Saint Vincent. The Legion of Decency* probably approves of it." So off we went.

Turns out the movie St. Vincent isn't really about any of the great saints of ages past. Instead, it's about a (fictional) present-day saint, played by Bill Murray, in the best performance of his career (IMHO). Here's the synopsis, from IMDb. A young boy whose parents have just divorced finds an unlikely friend and mentor in the misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic war veteran who lives next door.

The trailer suggests to me that St. Vincent is being sold as a comedy. It is not, or at least not the type of Bill Murray comedy we're used to. Caddyshack or Ghostbusters it's not. Rather, it's a quite sentimental comedy-drama, with a really soppy (but nonetheless satisfactory) denouement, good for at least one hankie.

The plotline reminded me of As Good As It Gets, one of Jack Nicholson's less impressive efforts, although "Vincent" (Murray) is not as weird as Nicholson's character. The story is similar, although less complex. Struggling single mom with sickly kid is befriended, in spite of himself, by grumpy old curmudgeon. No LGBT-promoting side-plot in this one though.

"Oliver", the runty but clever boy who Vincent takes under his unshaven and grubby wing, is played very well by Jason Lieberher, a less-obnoxious young Macaulay Culkin.

Melissa McCarthy turns in a fine performance as "Maggie", the struggling, just-divorced mom. I found it laudable that the heroine of a movie set in today's America would be portrayed as a full-figured lady, rather than the untypical likes of Julia Roberts or Jennifer Aniston. Maggie has what Shakespeare would have called a soliloquy (telling her boy's teachers about the problems at home) which Ms McCarthy did so well as to cause a deal of muted sobbing and sniffing in the seats around me.

A commendable performance was also given by Chris O'Dowd as "Brother Geraghty", Oliver's religion teacher at St. Patrick's school. If only we really had truly Catholic schools like St. Patrick's, staffed by truly religious teachers like Brother Geraghty. But alas, St. Patrick's school is, in modern-day North America, fictional...very fictional.

Walt gives St. Vincent **** (four stars). I enjoyed it.

* Footnote: The Catholic Legion of Decency no longer exists as such. Its mission -- to identify and combat objectionable content in films and other media -- is now being carried on, in a desultory fashion, by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Office for Film and Broadcasting, to whom no-one pays the least bit of attention.

Are Muslims taking over your kids' school? Beware the "Trojan Horse"!

Today's online edition of The Telegraph reports the announcement by British Education Secretary Michael Gove that, beginning in September, all of England’s 20,000 primary and secondary schools will be required to teach "British values of tolerance and fairness". Imagine that!

Why do you suppose Her Britannic Majesty's Government feels it necessary to institute this campaign? Errr... well... it may have something to do with a report by a number of head teachers [= school principals, for Walt's North American readers] revealing an organized campaign to impose a "narrow, faith-based ideology" at some schools in Birmingham.

Which "faith-based ideology" would that be? Why, Islamic fundamentalism, of course. No prizes for guessing!

A report by Ofsted, the toothless watchdog of English education, recommended placing five Birmingham schools in "special measures" after "deeply worrying" findings that the schools had been taken over by Islamists.

One of the schools was funding a Madrassa -- a school for the study of Islam -- from its own budget, while at another Muslim children had been taken on trips to Saudi Arabia. A third school regularly broadcast a call to Muslim prayer over the school’s loudspeaker in the playground while another school taught in biology that "evolution is not what we believe".

Mr. Gove said that this would change. He told Parliament, "We already require independent schools, academies and free schools to respect British values. Now we will consult on strengthening this standard further, so that all schools actively promote British values." Mr. Gove did not include the word "Christian" in his speech, nor did he explain exactly what values should be considered "British".

However, current guidance asks schools to "enable pupils to distinguish right from wrong and to respect the civil and criminal law" and "provide pupils with a broad general knowledge of public institutions and services in England". Pupils are also encouraged "to respect the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs".

How that last part squares with letting Muslims drive their "Trojan Horse" into Britain's schools is similarly unclear.

And, dear reader, lest you think the Islamic fundamentalists are only taking over British schools, be aware that the camel's nose is already inside the tent flap in every Western country, particularly places which are determined to "celebrate diversity" at the expense of European Christian culture and values, such as Ontario (see below).

Have you checked your kids' school lately to see what's going on there? Do they, for example, have a prayer room for the Muslim kids, but not for the Christians? (Could be...even in a so-called Catholic school. See below.) Take a look. Take a good look!

Québec premier denounces multicult, hijabs and too much "accommodation"

Pauline Marois, the first female premier of Québec, has spoken out strongly against bending over backwards to accommodate the beliefs and practices of immigrants who refuse to assimilate into the culture of their adopted countries. In an interview with Le Devoir, she called out multiculturalism for violence and "bomb-throwing" in the UK. That kind of thing, she said, is reason enough to push ahead with her government's planned "Charte des valeurs québécoises" ("Charter of Quebec Values").

Mme Marois told the Montréal newspaper that secularism measures contemplated by the Charter will be phased in over a few years. The measures include a ban on the wearing of religious costumes or symbols -- such as yarmulkes, hijabs or large crosses -- by staff working in any "public workplace". That would include government offices, schools and hospitals. The usual suspects are of course outraged by enforced secularism, which they call racist, discriminatory, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, yada yada yada.

The premier conceded that the French model of secularism "isn’t perfect", Le Devoir reported, but she said that "in England, they’re knocking each other over the head and throwing bombs because of multiculturalism and nobody knowing any more who they are in that society."

Poor Len Canayen says... Wow! Someone noticed!

Mme Marois also said that wearing a hijab can be seen as a "form of submission", and that she feared daycare workers, teachers, and others in positions of authority could (by wearing religious attire) incite impressionable children to practise religion.

Len thinks this would be offensive to Catholics if there were any religious teaching in "Catholic" schools, but that seems not to be the case any more. No, not even in Québec. There are (practically) no more religious sisters and brothers. The dire dearth of vocations is one of the poisoned fruits of Vatican II.

However, in the so-called "public" schools there are lots of religious... religious Muslims, that is. Perhaps it is the Muslims and Jews -- not Christians -- who are the real targets of the Charter. We shall have to study the wording very carefully when it is published later this month.

A draft version leaked in the media reportedly proposed a ban on religious clothing for public servants. Polls suggest the idea of restricting religious garb is quite popular in Quebec, and the second-place PQ has seen a bump in the latest polling.

Catholic university won't recognize K of C because it admits only Catholics

The forces of aggressive secularism and political correctness have scored another victory over Christianity. This in the Excited States of America, where freedom of religion and freedom of association are guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. This in... wait for it... a so-called "Catholic" university.

The institution in question is Gonzaga University, in Spokane, which is run by the Jesuits. (Hello, Pope Bergoglio!) According to Catholic Education Daily, the university has denied an application by some students to have their Knights of Columbus group recognized as an official student organization. The reason? Because they admit only Catholics!

The Knights were told that they could not be formally affiliated with the university because their rules for membership are "inconsistent with the policy and practice of student organization recognition at Gonzaga University, as well as the University’s commitment to non-discrimination based on certain characteristics, one of which is religion."

To make matters worse, the Knights is for men only. The applicants thought they had that covered by proposing the formation of a Catholic Daughters group, but that didn't get them around the "Catholic" university's commitment to diversity, inclusivity and all the other politically correct bullshit that even the Jesuits feel bound to put ahead of any commitment they might have to their religion.

Walt is waiting for Gonzaga University to be renamed. Something like "The Mohammed Luther Hebrew Institute of Secular Humanism" would fit nicely.

How a priest got a hair dryer through customs

In Catholic schools, students were taught that lying is a sin. At least that's the way it used to be. Nowadays, who knows? But I digress... Instruction was also given that to avoid the sin of lying, one could be -- shall we say -- a bit creative with the truth. Here's an example of how a priest might have done so.

An attractive young woman on a flight from Ireland asked the Priest beside her, "Father, may I ask a favour?'"
"Of course child, said Father O'Malley. "What may I do for you?"

"Well," said the girl, "I bought my mother an expensive hair dryer for her birthday. It is unopened but well over the Customs limits and I'm afraid they'll confiscate it. Is there any way you could carry it through customs for me? Hide it under your cassock perhaps?"

"I would love to help you," said the priest, "but I must warn you, I will not lie."
"With your honest face, Father, no one will question you," replied the damsel.

When they got to Customs, she let the priest go first. The officer asked, "Father, do you have anything to declare?"
Answered the priest, "From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare."

The customs inspector thought this answer strange, so asked, "And what do you have to declare from your waist down to the floor?"
"I have a marvellous instrument designed to be used on a woman, but which is, to date, unused."
Roaring with laughter, the officer said, "Go ahead, Father. Next!"

Muslim camel's nose inside door of "Catholic" school

You know the old saw about the camel's nose coming inside the tent. Well, it's happened in yet another Canadian school, this time a so-called "Catholic" high school in London. (That's the other London, not the big Third World city.)

Walt should explain that owing to a provision in Canada's first constitution -- the British North America Act -- the province of Ontario is unique in North America in having two publicly funded school systems, the so-called "public" system and the so-called "Catholic" schools. You might think there would be a big difference between the two, as between public schools and parochial schools in the USA, but you would be wrong. Since the Catholic schools are paid for out of the public purse, they are subject to the same rules as the public schools, meaning they have to accept all students, Catholic or not.

Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School in London ON has about 1400 students. Some two dozen of them are Muslims who for some reason have chosen to attend a Catholic school in spite of all those crucifixes in the classrooms and other trappings of infidelity. [Are you sure they still have crucifixes in the rooms? Ed.]

Being good followers of the prophet, the Muslims have asked for their own prayer room, in which to point their bums skyward five times a day, and possibly plot demonstrations against America at other times. And sure enough, in a display of the politeness and political correctness for which Canadians are famous, the Catholic school board agreed.

An Islamic prayer room is under construction even as I write. Carpet will soon cover the tile flooring, speakers will be installed and prayer mats purchased to provide the school's Muslim students with "a quiet and private place to pray.... They're members of our school community. We want to ensure that all our students feel welcome, that they feel that they belong," said the school's principal, Ana Paula Fernandes.

Sorry, Ms Fernandes, but Muslims are not and cannot be members of the Catholic community. Like Judaism and Christianity, Islam is an Abrahamic religion, but, like the Jews, Muslims reject the core principles of Catholicism: the Virgin Birth, and the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the salvation of "many" (not "all").

In a word, Muslims are non-believers in Christianity, and they reject (to put it mildly) Christians who are, by definition, non-believers in Islam. The notion that all religions lead to the same God, and all will be saved as long as they believe in something is heretical. The false "ecumenism" of the "new and improved" Catholic Church does not change that dogma, proclaimed centuries ago.

As for the "Catholic" school board and "Catholic" principal, they are guilty of the vilest pandering to a vocal minority, presumably to prove how sensitive Catholics are to the needs of others, and how much they value and "celebrate diversity".

Let me ask, if you're going to establish mosques and synagogues and gay clubhouses within "Catholic" schools, how much longer will it be before we see these abominations within "Catholic" parish halls and church buildings?
