Protests in Memphis over white supremacist murder of Tyre Nichols

On January 7th, police in Memphis TN stopped 29-year-old Tyre Nichols on suspicion of DWB (Driving While Black). A struggle ensued as they dragged Mr Nichols out of his car. He managed to free himself from the clutches of the law, only to be cornered a few minutes and a few blocks from the scene.

The minions then beat the living snot out of Mr Nichols, who died three days later in hospital. 

This week, five of the arresting officers were charged with murder, and last night the authorities released graphic videos showing what happened. Memphis and other cities across the Excited States of America braced for another round of BLM protests and "reparations shopping".

On cue, Ben Crump, successor to "Rev." Al Sharpton in leading charges for justice for (fill in name of deceased black person), appeared in front of the cameras to call for calm. Whether he winked as he did so isn't clear, but it appears that last night's protest marches were indeed "mostly peaceful".

Since the five accused cops are just as black as Mr Nichols, the bleeding heart liberals and lickspittle media (Hello! Clinton News Network) had to twist themselves into pretzels to paint the killing as yet another example of anti-black racism. Here are two theories which have been advanced, with straight faces, by "journalists" in the "legacy media".

1. The speed with which charges were laid against the dusky-hued officers by white prosecutors proves the point. If the cops had been white (they argue) there would have been a long delay while white authorities sought excuses to lay lesser charges or no charges at all. They rush to judgment only against blacks.

2.  Although the policemen involved were all visibly black, they were in fact "oreo cookies" -- black on the outside but white on the inside. When they joined the police force they were imbued with the white supremacist culture of the police, and that's what made them turn on a brother. Geddit? Give a black man a uniform and a badge and he turns white!

Expect variations on that theme to be aired 24/7 for the next week or so, particularly if the mostly peaceful protests degenerate into the customary rioting and looting. Lifetime pct .987.

Cultural jihadists get "Gone With The Wind" banned in Memphis

Todd Starnes wrote (on Fox News, yesterday) that "Common sense has 'Gone With the Wind' in Memphis". Ain't it the truth! The site of the latest victory for the alt-left is Memphis TN, where SJWs have succeeded in forcing the Orpheum Theatre to end its 34-year tradition of screening Gone With the Wind at least once a year.

Why would they do that? Because a handful of snowflakes took seriously the criticism penned by the New York Post's Lou Lumenick back in June of 2015. The alleged film critic wrote that the 1939 Oscar-winning film "buys heavily into the idea that the Civil War was a noble lost cause and casts Yankees and Yankee sympathizers as the villains, both during the war and during Reconstruction." He suggested it should "go the way of the Confederate flag" and be phased out of American culture.

The Orpheum caved right sharpish after several patrons complained about an August 11th screening, saying the film was "racially insensitive". In what way? Well, black people are referred to a couple of times as "darkies". That would have been a mild usage for the Civil War period, and the director, Victor Fleming (who won an Oscar for Best Director for GWTW) struggled to get the N-word excised from the original script.

Walt has seen GWTW countless times and feels that all of the black characters were shown sympathetically, with the possible exception of "Prissy" (played by Butterfly McQueen) who is portrayed as rather dim-witted, just as in the Margaret Mitchell novel. No race, black, white or striped, is comprised solely of geniuses!

The president of the Orpheum Theatre Group was quick to take the side of the snowflakes. "While title selections for the series are typically made in the spring of each year," he told Entertainment Weekly, "the Orpheum has made this determination early in response to specific inquiries from patrons. As an organization whose stated mission is to 'entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves', the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population.... This is about the Orpheum wanting to be inclusive and welcoming to all of Memphis."

Atlanta Hawks owner shares his thoughts about black fans vs white fans VIDEO ADDED: Mob of black yoofs go nuts in Memphis

A little over two years ago, Bruce Levenson, owner of the NBA Atlanta Hawks, was musing about his difficulties in building a substantial fan base, selling season tickets and attracting corporate sponsors. Unfortunately for Mr. Levenson, he chose to put his observations in the form of an e-mail, which he has now been forced to repudiate.

Such is the pressure of "public opinion", as shaped by the lamestream media. It's one thing to say the unsayable, but woe betide you if you put in writing the notion that there is any difference of culture, behaviour and so on between white folks and black folks.

What Mr. Levenson wrote, in August 2012, was that he had concluded that "southern whites" were uncomfortable at Hawks games. "My theory is that the black crowd scared away the whites and there are simply not enough affluent black fans to build a significant season ticket base.

Mr. Levenson said he often heard fans say the area around Philips Arena in downtown Atlanta is dangerous. "When I hear some people saying the arena is in the wrong place," he wrote, "I think it is code for there are too many blacks at the games."

Hawks crowds are 70% black, said the team's owner. The team's cheerleaders are black and hip-hop music was played at games. But, he said, "There was nothing threatening going on in the arena back then. I never felt uncomfortable, but I think southern whites simply were not comfortable being in an arena or at a bar where they were in the minority.... Then I start looking around at other arenas. It is completely different."

Though he said he disagreed with the conclusion, he said he told team executives to add white cheerleaders and music "familiar to a 40-year-old white guy."

What Mr. Levenson said two years ago, as Walt reads it, is that basketball is a black game played by black men for black fans. No kidding! But now, for the sin of making this "racist" observation public, he feels compelled to sell his controlling interest in the team, and will be doing so on Saturday. Here's part of his grovelling mea culpa.

"I wrote an e-mail two years ago that was inappropriate and offensive. I trivialized our fans by making clichéd assumptions about their interests (i.e. hip hop vs. country, white vs. black cheerleaders, etc.) and by stereotyping their perceptions of one another (i.e. that white fans might be afraid of our black fans). By focusing on race, I also sent the unintentional and hurtful message that our white fans are more valuable than our black fans.

"If you're angry about what I wrote, you should be. I'm angry at myself, too. It was inflammatory nonsense. We all may have subtle biases and preconceptions when it comes to race, but my role as a leader is to challenge them, not to validate or accommodate those who might hold them."

Any suggestion that Mr. Levenson's eating of this heaping platter of crow [No racist remarks, please! Ed.] is in any way connected to the financial difficulties of the franchise is, of course, completely unwarranted.

Comment from Poor Len Canayen: I don't think it's a race thing. Atlanta sports fan like football and baseball and that's all. Look at the fortunes of hockey in Atlanta, where not one but two NHL franchises -- the Flames and the Thrashers -- both failed to draw flies. And hockey is a white man's game!
