A Special Day in June is actually not that rare. The month of June is replete with Special Days of various kinds, commemorating or promoting Special Things and things that (IMHO) are Not So Special. There is one, however, which we do like to celebrate.
Saint-Jean-Baptiste is the patron of the province of Québec and French Canada. À tous nos lecteurs d'expression française: Bonne fête!
Here are some other Special Days you may have missed.
Yell "Fudge" at the Cobras in North America Day (June 2nd): Supposedly created so North Americans can shout the word "fudge" to keep venomous cobras away (despite cobras not being native to the continent).
Impersonate Authority Day (June 3rd): A highly questionable day that encourages people to act like they are in charge, though you should probably skip trying this one on law enforcement.
Repeat Day (June 3rd): A day designed to do things twice, a day designed to do things twice.
National Gardening Exercise Day (June 6th): Celebrated by explicitly treating your backyard weeding and lawn mowing as an intense, high-performance athletic workout. (Walt likes this one.)
Upsy Daisy Day (June 8th): A day entirely dedicated to getting out of bed with a ridiculously positive attitude and a spring in your step.
National Kiss a Wookiee Day (June 15th): A bizarrely specific, sci-fi-themed pop culture day urging Star Wars fans to show affection to their favourite fictional, hairy bipedal species.
No Orange Clothes Day (June 16th): A mysterious day where the internet collectively decides that wearing the colour orange is completely forbidden. Canadian readers may have a different interpretation of this one.
International Panic Day (June 18th): An unhinged antidote to mental wellness days that encourages you to just let go and fully freak out over your daily stressors.
World Wide Hollerin' Festival (June 20th): An observance meant to preserve the historical, traditional art of loud vocal "hollerin'" used as communication before telephone lines existed.
Pink Flamingo Day (June 23rd): This day honors the iconic, tacky, plastic pink lawn ornaments invented in 1957.
Cat World Domination Day (June 24th): A day coming up tomorrow that officially acknowledges what feline owners already know—our cats completely rule the house.
That's enough Special Days. Ed.
