We waited patiently, and can now repost edited surveillance and body camera video, released by the Dallas Police Department. The woman seen firing into the air before being taken down by a shots of a woman who fired a gun at Dallas Love Field Airport Monday and was taken down by a cop -- the Dallas police haven't been defunded yet -- has been identified as Portia Odufuwa, 37, pictured at left.
Ms Odufuwa has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, and, according to Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia, may face other federal charges. Here's the video. If you have trouble seeing clearly, you'll find the police recap below.
Airport surveillance video -- there is no sound -- shows Ms Odufuwa exiting a red Kia Sedan outside the airport Monday. She then walks into a restroom, and emerges five minutes later clad in a black hoodie with the hood pulled up over her head and her hands in her front pockets.
According to Chief Garcia, Ms Odufuwa walked to the Southwest Airlines ticketing area, stating she had an announcement to make. Surveillance video shows Officer Ronald Cronin, a 15-year veteran of the Dallas PD starting to walk towards her.
"Witnesses say Odufuwa started to ramble, talking about a marriage, incarceration and that she was going to blow up the airport," said Chief Garcia "and then pulls a handgun from her sweatshirt." In the video you can see her pointing the gun toward the ceiling. She fires multiple rounds, and you can see Officer Cronin reacting and trying to engage with her, as people in the airport scramble for cover.
According to Chief Garcia, Officer Cronin commanded the suspect to drop the weapon. "Odufuwa pointed her gun at Officer Cronin and an innocent bystander. Officer Cronin took cover behind the ticket kiosk and fired his department-issued weapon, striking the suspect multiple times. Officer Cronin held his position, and other Dallas Police Department officers arrived to take the suspect into custody."
The video shows Officer Cronin pointing his gun at the woman, who falls to the ground. Several police officers enter the terminal to assist. Ms Odufuwa was taken to an area hospital where she underwent surgery for her injuries, and is now said to be in stable condition.
The weapon used by Ms Odufuwa was not registered. Chief Garcia noted that she has been prohibited from possessing a firearm since August of 2018. NBC News reported that she had some sort of obsession with singer-songwriter Chris Brown, to whom she claims to be married.
Walt is waiting for the authorities to tell us how Ms Odufuwa, whose name suggests she is Nigerian, got into the USA, and what her immigration status is. Was that issue not raised during the 2018 court proceedings, at which she was found unfit to stand trial?
What has Ms Odufuwa been doing since 2018? Who's supporting her? If it turns out that she's an illegal immigrant (lifetime pct .972), will she be deported? Is the pope a bear? Do Catholics shit in the woods? Just askin'....
