Land acknowledgment ceremonies now de rigueur in USA and Canada

On his visit to Canuckistan at the start of the week (see "The Queen of Horsewomen", WWW 27/5/25), King Charles III began his Speech from the Throne with the now mandatory (and ever-meaningless) land acknowledgment ceremony, which is a kind of Confiteor in which liberals afflicted with white guilt concede that the land on w hich they live was filched from the Indians (feathers, not turbans) by their evil, colonialist ancestors.
Ed.: That sets a record for the longest run-on sentence ever posted on WWW. Please don't do that again.

OK, OK. I will simply point out that apologizing for mistakes made by their unwoke ancestors is not just part of Canadian culture, but official government policy. As witness this press conference given by a spokesthingy for the Nova Scotia division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (aka "Mounties") on 7 May 2025.

That right there shows you what a joke a country can become under prolonged rule by liberal wokesters. Not only did they apologize to the Mi'kmaq (aka Micmac), the local Indians First Nations, but to "Nova Scotian Africans" as well. Hey, they're a distinct people... apparently. And notice the bilingual preface as well, even though there's nary a soul in Nova  Scotia who speaks la langue de Molière. 40 seconds wasted before getting to the point of the presser.

American readers shouldn't be smug, though. These land acknowledgment jokes are common enough in the Paranoid States of America. As witness this one:

Land Acknowledgment: The Babylon Bee Wishes To Acknowledge That Our Offices Are Located On Land Once Occupied By Morton & Mayfield Accounting LLC (14/10/24)

and this one

OK, they're from the Babylon Bee, of course. Who else? But if you arrive on time for any kind of gtovernment event in any blue state (or even some of the red ones), don't be surprised to hear the ritual incantation of: Hiya, hiya, hiya. Sorry, sorry, sorry

One question remains. If we're so sorry that we took their land away from our fine feathered friends, why don't we just give it back to them?!

The Queen of Horsewomen

Now that the King and Queen of Canada [sic] are winging their way back to Old Blighty on an RCAF stretch Cessna, Walt can reveal details of an occurrence that nearly provoked a Royal Row during the couple's quickie visit to Ottawa yesterday and today.

Charles and his consort Camilla (Americans should think of her as a British version of Kamala -- they share the same taste in drink) were on hand to open Canada's 45th Parliament by reading the Speech from the Throne, normally the task of the Governor-General, who represents His Majesty when he is not in the Great No-longer-white North.

The couple rode to the parliament buildings from their residence at Rideau Hall in the royal landau, a magnificent horse-drawn carriage. (The very woke king is said to have been disappointed that the horses have not been replaced by a battery.) When Camilla, who is horsey to the point of being horse-faced, stepped out onto the stoop of Rideau Hall, this happened....

A  parcel of wine-flushed stable boys ran out, seized the queen with various sharp cries in horse language, and forcibly backed her into the shafts of the waiting landau. She had been almost fully harnessed when the mistake was discovered.

Walt can reveal that there was royal hell to pay when the error came to the attention of His Royal Highness, who cherishes for his lady his own queer brand of senile admiration: "Best seat in England, old boy. Finest pair of hands in the realm. Comes down to breakfast on horseback, dontcha know!"

Queen Camilla is very popular with the younger set and is one of the most interesting personalities one meets at the York Hunt Club ball. After a week in the saddle, she finds her relaxation in poetry, play writing, novel writing, dancing and film work.

Walt can reveal that the Camilla complexion, the envy of millions of women, can be had by anybody for the asking. After a hard day in the saddle, she likes to retire to her room and rub into her face a "base" of liquid suet. She then works in a mixture of flour, mashed potatoes and treacle. On top of this goes a liberal plaster of beaten eggs and Scotch whisky. When all this stuff is scraped off, you have the complexion that has payed havoc with many a susceptible young ballet-boy.

Ed.: We can't have much more of this. Space must be found for a piece about the effect of the Royal Presence on President Trump.
All right. Never hesitate to say so. I can turn off the tap at will.

VIDEO: Sample Blazing Cat Fur's new video channel

Regular readers of WWW will know that we often refer to Blazing Cat Fur (aka BCF), a great news aggregator which we read every day, and from which we often get leads or memes or other good stuff. Some follks, though, prefer listening to reading. For them, the good folks at BCF have created a video channel on Rumble. Here's a sample.

Note that it's on Rumble. Walt used to post videos on YouTube (BCF calls it "CommieTube") but don't like to see good things "cancelled" (read: censored) because they conflict with YT's "community standards". So for original posts, we use Rumble too! Free speech forever!

UPDATED: "Allahu Akbar!" in Europe... again???

Today is the Muslim sabbath, a day when followers of the Prophet go to the mosque... or into a crowded market to perpetrate another in a long line of attacks on innocent civilians who have welcomed them into their once-Christian countries.

This year alone, five people were injured in a violent spree in Amsterdam, while three months ago a teenage boy was killed in a similar attack in Austria. The authorities described the latter as "an Islamic incident".

The Netherlands, Austria, and today Germany. This evening at least 12 people were injured in a knife attack at Hamburg Central Station. What's unusual about this one is that, according to Bild, a woman was arrested at the scene.

In keeping with official policies, in a country where the government thinks "right-wing extremism" is the greatest threat, die Polizei have yet to confirm that the suspect was woman, or to provide any information about her (?) citizenship, ethnicity, or religion.

Of course we shouldn't jump to the usual conclusion. Mustn't stoke the fires of Islamophobia.

The perp might not have been a woman at all. "She" might have been a man hiding under a hijab, like the one pictured at left. And so far there have been no ear-witness reports of shouts of "Allahu akbar!"

Still, as far as Ed. can remember, we've only been wrong about this once. We'll let you know if further details disprove our assumption. Let's not forget that the Islamic terrorists are engaged in a jihad, a "holy war". They are out to kill us "infidels". All of us.

UPDATE ADDED 24/5/25 @ 0701 FMT: Die Polizei are now describing the assailant as "Caucasian". So? There are many Caucasians -- people whose family or ancestors come from the Caucasus, e.g. Chechens in rebellion against Russia -- who are Muslims. You can be a Caucasian and still be an illegal immigrant or an asylum-seeker or bogus refugee.

Call it whatever you like...

The words "fascism" and "fascist" were coined when Benito Mussolini rose to power in Italy, almost a century ago. Some people think fascism died when Il Duce was overthrown just before the end of WWII. "Progressives", however, want you to believe that fascism lives on in today's America.

Google's totally unbiased (LMAO) AI overview tells us: Fascism is a far-right political ideology characterized by authoritarianism, ultranationalism, and often militarism. It emphasizes the importance of the nation above individual rights and prioritizes a strong, centralized state controlled by a dictatorial leader or a small group. Key features include the suppression of dissent, [my emphasis] a focus on national unity and renewal, and the use of propaganda and symbols to cultivate a sense of national identity and purpose.

Here's another view.

Try speaking out against the liberal, woke, orthodoxy pushed by the intellectual elites and their lickspittle media and you'll soon find out who the real fascists are.

Dare we hope that Leo XIV will reverse the "woke revolution"?

Today we're pleased to present a mash-up [How about "Editor's cut"? Ed.] of a recent "Underground" vlog from Remnant TV, featuring our traditional Catholic friend, Michael J. Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper. If, after you've watched the clips, you want to see the whole thing (run time 41:12), just click on the link.

The video is Mr Matt's response to the election of Pope Leo XIV. Is he a "traditionalist"? (asks Mr Matt) No, he’s not. Will he denounce the revolution of Vatican II? Likely not. So, what hope is there for a reversal -- or at least a halt -- to Francis' attempt to remake Holy Mother Church to conform to the Age of Woke?

Mr Matt lets us hear from a conservative (and non-Catholic) voice, that of Thomas Sowell, an American economist, economic historian, social philosopher, and political commentator. Listen carefully to his concise and precise analysis of what's wrong with the "Church of Francis".

Ed. regrets to advise that Michael Matt has learned that the clip supposedly featuring the voice of Thomas Sowell was a fake -- generated by AI. Mr Matt has deleted it from his video (the one linked above), and Walt has also deleted it from his Rumble account. AI is turning out to be a very dangerous thing. We'll be more careful about reposting videos, and trust that you, dear readers, will keep a healthy sense of skepticism... yes, even about what you see on WWW.

In his video, Mr Matt concludes that, yes, there is a glimmer of hope. No counter-revolution in sight yet, but some of the first signs of change portend a change "back to the future". Let us continue to resist.
As the New York Times article cited by Mr Matt shows, we are starting to win!

One more thing... Mr Matt got a good chuckle out of this item from Saturday Night Live.

Indeed. Catholicism is not like a cafeteria. You can't pick and choose which things you want to be believe and which items of faith or its practice you want to pass over. You have to accept all of the Faith... or none of it. As Saint Ignatius of Loyola said, "What seems to me white, I will believe black if the hierarchical Church so defines."

Reassuring words from Pope Leo XIV

Traditional Catholics like YVT have adopted a wait-and-see approach to the papacy of Leo XIV. But we wait hopefully, encouraged by signs, however small, that Pope Prevost, although no traditionalist -- he cannot be, being informed solely by the modernist ideas and practices which are the poisoned fruit of Vatican II -- is at least not intolerant of traditional Catholicism as was his predecessor.

Here's one of the signs, a quote from his first public after his election.

Ed. is editing some video clips in which Catholic and non-Catholic commentators discuss the things that Pope Prevost is saying and doing things to heal the de facto schism between the mainstram Catholic Church and us "old believers". So let it be!

Further reading: "Is Christian Nationalism The Solution To The Frailty Of Liberalism?" by Brandon Smith, on Alt-Market, 16/5/25. Mr Smith asks, "Should western civilization be allowed to discriminate? Should we be able to refuse to associate? Should we have the right to be tribal (like everyone else) and deny entry to malicious cultures and ideologies? Is our heritage valid and enduring?" What, dear reader, would your answer be?

VIDEO: Prostate cancer afflicts both bad people and good

Since the lickspittle meeja started the deathwatch with the video equivalent of 72-point headlines yesterday, you probably know that former president Joe Biden has been diagnosed with very aggressive prostate cancer, which has metastasized and spread to his bones.

About him and his physical and mental problems I will say nothing more, except that I wouldn't wish that on anyone. May God grant him, and all those who suffer from incurable cancer, comfort and a quick and painfree passage into eternity.

But Mr Biden is not the only one facing death from the same cause. Scott Adams, the creator of the much-missed Dilbert comic strip --  cancelled years ago for being politically incorrect, especially when it comes to saying out loud the quiet part about race --  announced on his "Coffee With Scott Adams" vlog today that he has the same type of cancer and doesn't expect to be with us much past the fall.

Mr Adams says medically assisted suicide (MAID) is an option for him, but doesn't say whether or not he has made up his mind to do it. I don't know his religious views but suspect he's not a believer. If so, he won't be concerned about "Why God cannot forgive the sin of suicide", WWW 4/5/25. But we will be asking St. Peregrine to pray for him and all those who suffer from cancer, and for those who care for them.

Before you donate to the food bank, think about this

VIDEO: Only a black person can tell this truth

"Some folks is black; some folks is jes' niggers." A black person I know told me that a long time ago. She was talking about the difference between, say, the black men portrayed by Sidney Poitier in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? or Bill Cosby playing Cliff Huxtable, and the black men you see in rap videos, and often later in the dock.

There's always some truth behind stereotypes. Unfortunately, you can't speak the truth about the differences between the two stereotypes any more, let alone use the ninth word of this post. Unless, that is, you're a person of colour, preferably of the female persuasion. Here's a black lady who isn't afraid to say the quiet part out loud.

Don't be calling her comment racist. This isn't about racial differences. It's about the difference between those who have enough culture and class to act like civilized human beings, and those who don't. Period.

Innocent question about racism in TV commercials

The Niagara Parks Commission is an independent agency of the Ontario government which is responsible for Niagara Parks [duh. Ed.], the lovely stretch of parkland which runs for 35 miles from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake, along the western side -- the pretty side -- of the Niagara River.

The main attraction for visitors is, of course, the famous falls, at the brink of which sits Niagara Parks' most-visited attraction, Table Rock Centre -- a comples which houses restaurants, gift shops, and "experiences" such as  "Jouiney Behind the Falls" and "Niagara's Fury", the latter a Disney production.

Entrance to the Parks is free. It's by the "experiences" that they get you. (Did I mention the gift shops?) Niagara's Fury -- a Disney-produced movie projected on curve screens that surround the viewer -- opened in 2008. It was getting a little long in the tooth so was closed last season, to be replaced by a new and even more wonderful attraction called "Niagara Takes Flight".

What you see below is a screen shot from the recently-released promotional video.

Niagara Falls is still "the honeymoon capital of the world", or so the tourism hucksters would have us believe. How better to illustrate that idea than with a picture of a happy couple in a romantic pose. A bi-racial couple, of course, because this is the Age of Woke. Portraying races mixing effortlessly and happily, in perfect harmony, is the vision of reality at the core of the woke, anti-racist, we're-all-the-same-under-the-skin canon.

It's not just Niagara Parks. If you watch TV or streaming services or anything of that nature, you'll see couples like this more times than you can count, in much greater proportion than their existence in the reality of Western society. We are encouraged to believe that iner-racial coupling is normal... or should I say "more normal" than the old-fashioned, pre-woke idea of sticking to your own kind.

Did you notice that this couple consists of a black -- well, brown actually, not too black -- man and a very white woman. [Well, she could have been blonde! Ed.] This too is very normal. Roughly 99.44% of bi-racial couples you see in TV commercials looks like this. The other 0.56% are the other way `round -- white man and black woman.

Walt's innocent question: Why is this? Do the creators of these fantastical videos not know that for decades sociologists have been studying and bemoaning the complaints of black women that so many black men "marry out", preferring white women to women of colour? Many black women have told researchers that they feel they can't compete with women who look like the ones in the picture.

To make matters worse (for black women), a lot of black men don't care what the white woman looks like as long as she likes... really likes... black men, to the point of doing anything... anything... to get one.

You don't believe me? Take a look at the real world as seen on TV newscasts. If you watch a story about a black(ish) or mulatto kid who was either the victim or the perpetrator of a crime, you've got a better-than-even chance that the baby momma standing by home because "he's a good boy, just trying to get his life together and become a rap artist" will be a rotund white woman. Where, you may wonder, is the kid's father? Long gone, Jackson!

But hey, that's just the difference between the fake world of advertising (Why do those bi-racial couples always live in a better house than mine?) and the real world in which you and I live. All the affirmative action and DEI in the world ain't gonna change that.

VIDEO: Victor Davis Hanson: Germany is committing suicide!

On the latest episode of "The Daily Signal", Victor Davis Hanson weighs in on what appears to be Germany's death wish. He's talking about the country's domestic intelligence agency's labelling of Alternativ für Deutschland (Alternative for Germany) as an "extremist" group -- just one level below "terrorist", evidently.

AfD is challenging the designation in the courts, but Mr Hanson says the damage has already been done. He calls the move to effectively silence Germany's only rightist party about political control, not public safety as touted. The classification ensures AfD will never get its hands on the levers of political power, he says, no matter how many people support them.

If the AfD are "officially" extremists, Mr Hanson explains, "no government under [the German] parliamentary democracy system will ask them to join to form a majority government. So the process of ostracism and demonization of this party continues."

Why, he asks, would the German government do this? Because, the AfD offers a different vision, contrary to the politically correct narrative. "The party is advocating an alternative for the way that Germany is going."

And where is Germany going? Mr Hanson paints a bleak picture of economic decline, energy failure, and political denial. But, he says, there is a deeper crisis -- one that strikes at the heart of Germany’s identity, and beyond that to the very idea of "Europe".

The consequences of the denial of the rightist alternatives are both cultural and existential. Mr Hanson estimates that 16%  to 18% of Germany's population are foreigners -- not born in the Fatherland -- and have not not assimilated. "These are refugees -- or I don’t think they're refugees," he says. "They’re illegal immigrants from the volatile Middle East. Most of them are Muslim. Most of them do not have an intention of assimilating, intermarrying, and integrating fully in German society."

The [German] government's refusal to address this, he says, has allowed a demographic transformation to unfold without public debate or accountability. Today's Germany is a far cry from the Germany that once held Europe together. "For years, Germany was the powerhouse, the cohesive economic power that kept the EU together.... It's very tragic."

Instead of a healthy debate about what is to be done to resolve this crisis, Mr Hanson says the one party calling for such a debate and proposing solutions is being silenced. "They demonize [the AfD] because it's out of the norm. And the norm, unfortunately in Germany today, is national suicide."

Recommended reading: Suicide of the West, by James Burnham. The John Day Company, New York, 1964. That's right -- 1964. Conservative political pundits like Mr Burnham have seen this coming for six decades. Read the book (if you can find a copy) and marvel at the degree to which his vision of the future has become today's reality.

At least she washed her hands before going back to work

Interesting story from KENS-TV, the CBS affiliate in ole San Antone

San Antonio police recently arrested a 30-year-old school lunch worker for literally having a "closeted sexual affair" with a senior at East Central High School, where she had worked as a "nutritional assistant" (read: "lunchlady") for 11 years..

Jenna Michelle Woodworth was booked last week on a charge of "having an improper relationship between an educator and a student", a second-degree felony. The cops allege that Ms Woodworth had sexual intercourse multiple times with the student in a closet in the school cafeteria's kitchen.

School staff found a photo of the teen in the lunchlady's work locker when they cleaned it out after she was fired shortly after her arrest. Both Woodworth and the student were interviewed by police and admitted to the inappropriate relationship, which the cops say was ongoing right up until they got involved.

During an interview, the victim stated that on earlier last week Ms Woodworth picked him up in the stadium parking lot in a district vehicle and drove him to the Learning Academy Campus. According to the student's affidavit, Ms Woodworth walked him through a back door of the cafeteria kitchen, and when she was done with her morning duties, "they went to a closet in the kitchen and had sexual intercourse."

The student told officers the same interaction happened the following day. The affidavit noted that after the sexual interlude Woodworth would wash her hands and return to her cafeteria duties.

Walt is waiting to see if Ms Woodworth raises the Costanza defence: "Was that wrong? If anybody had told me that this is frowned on..."

Is the Pope Catholic?

From the Babylon Bee... of course...

Catholics Frantically Google Newly Elected Pope To See If He's Catholic

With the announcement of the election of Pope Leo XIV, Catholics around the globe were reportedly frantically googling the new pontiff to find out if he's Catholic.

Cardinal Robert F. Prevost, originally from Chicago, Illinois, became the first American to be selected to serve as pope, leading devout members of the church to quickly look up his background to find out if he was also the first Catholic to serve in the position in over a decade.

"It'll be a great change of pace if he is," said lifelong Catholic Dave Battaglia. "Throwing in some variety every now and then is fine, but it would be nice to have a Catholic guy in charge of the Catholic Church for at least a little while. I need to find out more about this Leo guy to see if he's at least been to Mass before."

If Leo XIV is, in fact, Catholic, he would return the church to its once-longstanding tradition of having popes who were Catholic. "You never know these days," said Lisa Ganapini, another devout Catholic. "You'd think that there's a decent chance that he's a member of the faith, but as we've learned in recent years, you just never know. I guess we'll find out. I hope he's, like, read the Bible or something, too."

At publishing time, progressives around the world were reportedly disappointed that the Catholic Church had once again missed the opportunity to elect the first female pope.

VIDEO: Michael Matt's reasoned response to the election of Leo XIV

On reflection, we should probably have waited for Michael Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper, to weigh in before we ran the video with John-Henry Westen. But Mr Matt's video didn't drop until about two hours ago, and were in a rush to put something up ASAP. Not that we think Mr Westen was wrong in what he said. It's just that rushing to judgment is a mistake, more often than not.

The main point of Mr Matt's video -- only twelve minutes, so watch the whole thing! -- is that we ought not to judge Pope Leo XIV by what he said and did in the past. Let's wait and see what he does. He may well be lifted up by "the grace of office", and change his views on certain matters of faith and how we practise it. He might even have the Damascene conversion which Walt mentioned earlier.

Let us pray to St. Joseph for Holy Mother Church. St. Joseph, husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus, you have been charged with the protection of the universal Church. Guide and protect the people of God walking toward fullness of life. Lead all Christians to unity in the same faith. Obtain for the Holy Father, for all our bishops, and for all the faithful, the graces of enlightenment and strength.

VIDEO: LifeSite News John-Henry Westen reacts to election of Leo XIV

What kind of "American Catholic" is the just-elected Pope Leo XIV? LifeSite News' John-Henry Westen clues us in, in this video entitled "Leo XIV an anti-Trump American, who urged invalid Confession by phone during COVID?"

After you've watched the video, scroll down to our earlier post, with a long and trenchant commentary on Cardinal Prevost's previous actions and expressed opinions. He might well have chosen the name Francis II!

Worth reading (even though it's from the secular press): "Expect Pope Leo XIV to bring more liberal controversy", by Michael Higgins, National Post, 8/5/25. Key takeaway: "With any new pope, you never know what you will really get. Only time will tell. But Leo XIV looks a lot like Francis II." As Walt and so many others have said.

Leo XIV: surprise for traditional Catholics... and not a pleasant one

On May 6th, LifeSite News published an op-ed piece headlined "Could Cardinal Prevost be the first American pope?" The subhead is: "Seemingly out of nowhere, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost is being discussed as a serious candidate in the upcoming conclave."

The author concludes a long list of problems evident from the prelate's past actions and pronouncements as follows: The question is whether he professes the faith whole and entire, in public and without compromise. If the answer is not a clear “Yes,” then the conclusion is clear: he cannot be validly elected or accepted as pope.

The highlighted words link to a previous article entitled "Catholics must refuse to accept a public heretic as pope: here’s why". Apparently the cardinals in conclave either didn't read the article or chose to ignore Cardinal Prevost's record, for about 90 minutes ago, he stepped out onto the balcony as Pope Leo XIV.

For traditional Catholics, the choice could hardly have been worse. We were hoping and praying for a good Catholic pope, not a conservative like Cardinals Erdo or Sara, but at least a moderate. Instead, we got a "reformer", complicit in advancing Francis' agenda, someone who has facilitated the appointment of heterodox bishops throughout the world, and tacitly denied the traditional teaching on the episcopate.

It's interesting that Cardinal Prevost chose to call himself Leo XIV. According to Wikipedia, the last pope of that name "brought the Roman Catholic Church into the modern era, encouraging a more progressive approach to faith and social reform. He wanted the Roman Catholic Church to be more active in communicating with the world and more accessible." Sound familiar? If you liked what Francis was doing, you'll be pleased when Leo XIV leads us further down that road.

The most distressing thing about the election of Cardinal Prevost is that the man's record suggests strongly that he does not embrace and uphold the Faith of our fathers. We continue with the last part of the LifeSite News article. The emphasis is Walt's.

In this piece, we have seen that Prevost has:
* Conspicuously failed to profess the faith in relation to the grave threats to faith and morals in our day — to the point in which this silence is taken as “discretion” and counted in his favor as a candidate
* Indicated the state of his mind through his cooperation with the appointment of notorious liberals and the deposition of conservatives
* Cooperated in the consolidation of Francis’ longest-lasting legacy, namely the appointment of bishops embodying his ideals

* Implicitly denied the dogma of the Church’s visible unity, by casting it in the terms rejected and refuted by Pope Pius XI in Mortalium Animos
* Minimized the importance of doctrine in the role of the bishop, contrary to Sacred Scripture, Apostolic Tradition and the general sense of theology
* Dismissed those who "prefer the security of answers already experienced in the past" [read: traditional Catholics]

* Promoted the modernist idea of "synodality" in such a way as to destroy the traditional concept of the bishop's threefold power of teaching, ruling and sanctifying his flock
* Explicitly denied that a bishop is a "prince" in his diocese, contrary to the teaching of the magisterium and the liturgy
* Replaced the traditional understanding of the bishop’s role with that of "service" presented in naturalistic terms, and which he has already separated from doctrine and governance through his other words (even while he retains references to teaching and shepherding).

[T]he wider points discussed in this article... — doctrinal deviations which become clear after a careful consideration of his role as Prefect for the Dicastery of Bishops — are both cause for alarm in themselves, and as shedding light on his silence. They indicate that Prevost is not a coward or a tactician, but a loyal son of Francis, and that he will continue the work of his master and benefactor, if he is elected — even if he does so in a more discreet and moderate way.

This raises grave questions about whether or not Prevost can be said to profess the Catholic faith at all, and thus whether he is a member of the Church. If he is not a member of the Church, then it is not possible for him to be validly elected as pope.

At the very least, there is serious doubt on the matter: and a man whose visible membership in the Church is itself in serious doubt can only be doubtfully elected to the papacy, even if the conclave is unanimous. Should such a man be elected, the resulting doubt would not be about his popularity or policies, but about his very authority. This is why great theologians and canonists held that a doubtful pope is no pope at all....

The question is whether he professes the faith whole and entire, in public and without compromise. If the answer is not a clear “Yes,” then the conclusion is clear: he cannot be validly elected or accepted as pope.

While we wait to see what Leo XIV does -- please God, he may have some sort of Damascene conversion -- we must continue to pray that God will find a way to end and heal the de facto schism in Holy Mother Church

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Your Singhs today - Sikh heritage month in Brampton ON

On April 30th the Peel Regional Police Service, which polices serves the Greater Toronto bedroom communities of Mississauga and Brampton, posted on Facebook this account, showing how they reflect the diversity that makes Canada strong.

"Today, we gathered at PRP headquarters for a Lunch & Learn to mark the end of Sikh Heritage Month and reflect on the perspectives and lived experiences of the communities we serve. It was a meaningful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the rich culture and historical contributions of Sikh Canadians in our communities and beyond."

Indeed. The Sikh cops even get to wear their own special turbans. Their kirpans and holy underwear are, of course, concealed.

The very next day, the meeja in Toronto and as far away as Australia ran this story:

'No business owner should have to live in fear,' say police,
after 3 charged in Brampton extortion investigation

Three men have been arrested and charged in connection with an extortion investigation in Brampton. Peel Regional Police (PRP) said on April 30 they were called to a business near Queen Street and Kennedy Road South in Brampton that had been shot at. Investigators said no one was inside the property during the incident, however a victim began receiving messages from an unknown individual who made demands for money.

On May 1, following a thorough investigation involving multiple teams, including surveillance, and community incident response and tactical, three males from Brampton were identified and arrested for extortion. They are 34-year-old Harpal Singh, 20-year-old Rajnoor Singh, and 22-year-old Eknoor Singh. Here are pictures of the three Sikhs, one of whom apparently refused to remove his turban for the mug shoot.

The accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing at which they are expected to be released. The peel Peelers [North American readers, read: cops. Ed.] could not confirm that they are students at the famous Singh School of Truck Driving. Nor would they respond to allegations that the accussed are actually policemen, a suggestion that is obviously absurd.

Biden-appointed WA judge orders 1000s of invaders "resettled" in US

Another tale from the Left Coast of wokeism triumphant. Or maybe we should say, of "the resistance" still trying to enforce its "progressive" agenda against the will of the American people.

A judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington has just issued an order requiring President Donald Trump to bring into America some 12,000 "refugees" who will be resttled (one hopes) amongst the mostly white folks of that state.

According to the ruling, the government must admit 1000s of refugees who had been approved for resettlement in the US of A before President Trump signed an executive order to halt the refugee resettlement program. Here's the nub of the ruling:

"This Court will not entertain the Government’s result-oriented rewriting of a judicial order that clearly says what it says.

The Government is free, of course, to seek further clarification from the Ninth Circuit. But the Government is not free to disobey statutory and constitutional law—and the direct orders of this Court and the Ninth Circuit—while it seeks such clarification.

The Government’s obligation to process, admit, and provide statutorily mandated resettlement support services to the Injunction-Protected Refugees is immediate. Likewise, the Government’s obligation to restore funding, information, and operational support to its USRAP partners as necessary to process, admit, and provide resettlement services to these individuals is also immediate."

Shortly after taking office, President Trump signed the executive order to suspend the refugee resettlement program. As expected, those contractors whose funding relies on resettling refugees in American communities sued the Trump administration to restore the program.

In February, the same judge blocked the President from carrying out the executive order to suspend the refugee program, even as he admitted the president holds broad authority over immigration. "The president has substantial discretion to suspend refugee admissions. But that authority is not limitless," he wrote at the time. Now he has said it again.

The judge's name, by the way, is Jamal Whitehead. I kid you not. You probably don't need to be told that he was appointed to his position by Demented Joe Biden. [Was the appointment was signed by autopen? Ed.] Judge Whitehead has a prosthetic leg, so got an extra plus-mark on the DEI qualification checklists. That pretty much explains everything.

VIDEO: Michael Matt's urgent plea to the cardinals in conclave

Michael J. Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper and Walt's favourite Catholic commentator, is in Rome covering the conclave at which a successor to Jorge Bergoglio will be elected.

His latest report, filed last night, concludes with an impassioned plea to the more moderate Cardinal electors, begging them to remember the promises of their Baptism and to listen not to the radical “progressives” who would “reform” the Church into oblivion, but rather to the Tradition-leaning conservatives who, with the aid of the Holy Spirit, would make the Church Catholic again.

"Just be Catholic! Just go back to the things of the soul!"

On a personal note, Walt is pleased and gives thanks to God for the presence in Rome of Joseph Cardinal Zen, the Archbishop Emeritus of Hong Kong. Through God's grace, at the age of 97 he has been able to travel to the conclave to present the traditional Catholic point of view and urge the cardinals, as does Mr Matt, to turn away from globalism and progressivism and the "church of Francis", and back to the Faith of Our Fathers. God bless Cardinal Zen and grant him many more years!

Please join all traditional Catholics in praying for the election of a good pope.

"Catholic" governor of WA signs law requiring priests to break the seal of the confessional

The great state of Washington is known to be liberal in its politics and policies, every bit as much as its neighbours of the Left Coast. On Friday, its governor, Bob Ferguson (D - are you surprised?) signed a controversial state law that requires priests to report child abuse to authorities, even if they learn of it during the Sacrament of Confession.

The measure, introduced in the state Legislature earlier this year, adds clergy to the list of mandatory abuse reporters in the state but doesn't include the exemption for information learned in the confessional which was written into the 2023 version of bill.

The original version carved out abuse allegations learned "solely as a result of a confession." The latest bill explicitly notes that clergy do not qualify for a "privileged communication" exemption.

Just like Sleepy Joe Biden, Governor Ferguson calls himseslf a Catholic. He told the meejua that as a Catholic he was "very familiar" with the Sacrament of Confession. He did not say, though, when he last availed himself of the sacrament, or whether he intended to do so at the first opportunity, to confess to the grave sin of putting the laws of Caesar ahead of those of God.

Apparently Mr Ferguson either did not attend RK class at school, or was instructed by some modernist who doesn't know the Faith. Canon law is explicit that any priest who breaks the seal of the confessional is, by so doing, automatically excommunicated from the Church, and, as part of that, is no longer a priest. He can only be reinstated by order of the pope (in practice the local ordinary).

Most Rev. Thomas Daly, the Bishop of Spokane, issued a statement on Friday saying that the clergy of his diocese would not break the seal of confession, even if required to by law. "[S]hepherds, bishop and priests," the bishop said, "are “committed to keeping the seal of confession — even to the point of going to jail."

"The sacrament of penance is sacred and will remain that way in the Diocese of Spokane," he added. "As this matter continues to unfold, I intend on keeping you informed and updated. An important element to the greatness of America is our constitutional commitment to religious freedom."

VIDEO: Why God cannot forgive the sin of suicide

"Life is disappointing? Forget it!" So says the Master of Ceremonies in Cabaret. Can anyone say that he has never contemplated suicide? We have an unhappy love relationship. We face financial disaster. Our health has deteriorated to the point that we are just waiting for death, praying to be relieved of our suffering. So we say to ourselves, "I don't want to be a burden on others any longer."

In those and many other dire circumstances, thoughts of suicide come easily. And the miracles of modern medicine, practised by those who care not for God, make it possible for us to depart this vale of tears, shuffle off the mortal coil, and end it all, with no fuss or bother, perhaps even no pain. You don't even have to do it yourself. A doctor will be pleased to "assist" you, with a look of compassion on his face while pocketing the fee.

Dear reader, no matter how bad things may be, you mustn't do that! You can pray for a happy death, an easy death, for release... but you must leave that to God. In his homily preached today, Good Shepherd Sunday, at Saint Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Thorold ON, Father Robert Novokowsky, FSSP, explains why suicide, including "medically assisted death" (MAID), is the one sin that God cannot forgive.

Please share this with any of your family and friends who are struggling to make descisions about the end of life. God will bless you... and them!

The Plain People of Canada: Give `em what they want? Hey, that just might work!

VIDEO: Victor Davis Hanson: "What's happening in Canada?"

Walt is back at home, pondering the future of post-Trudeau Canuckistan. TBH, there isn't much to ponder. Canadians inexplicably voted for a continuation of the misgovernment of Emperor Trudeau II, with the same people -- not one new face -- propping up elitest One-Worlder and new Dear Leader Mark Carnage.

The hapless Plain People of Canada are unlikely to see any change from the insanely woke social and economic policies of Blackie McBlackface. The hated carbon tax will be resurrected under a new euphemism. Alberta's oil and gas will be left in the ground while eastern Canuckistan imports oil from Saudi Arabia. And Canada will welcome (NOT!) a new wave of "refugees" from Greater America.

The 2025 election will prove to be largely meaningless for Canadians... on the surface. But the resuscitation of the moribund Liberal Party of Canada has deeper meaning for the country and the rest of the world. In this video, Victor Davis Hanson takes a hard look at the unraveling of Canada's political and cultural foundations. He explores how decades of unchecked immigration, bureaucratic overreach, and progressive ideology have led to social fragmentation, economic stagnation, and rising insecurity across the continent.

This is a powerful and sobering analysis that challenges mainstream narratives and asks tough questions about the future of Western civilization. Mr Hanson argues that Canada’s elites -- and Mr Carney is the veriest of the Laurentian elite -- in their pursuit of globalism and moral relativism, have abandoned the very values that once made the West strong: reason, national identity, and civic responsibility.

Instead, they have embraced a postmodern vision that undermines sovereignty and silences dissent. Mr Hanson reveals how, from Paris to Berlin, the European project is crumbling under the weight of its own contradictions. He contends that Canada's collapse is not just a regional issue, but a cautionary tale for the United States and the rest of the free world.

Poor Len looks back at the Canadiens' surprising season

The Canadiens bowed out of the NHL playoffs last night, losing 4-1 (in that game and in the series) to the Washington Capitals. Habs fans are not too disappointed though, because nearly no-one expected them to make the playoffs, and there is much to look forward to in the 2025-26 season. Our National Sport (As Long As It's Hockey) Editor, Poor Len Canayen, grades the players' performance this year, and offers some advice to management.

Tank youse, Hed. Les Glorieux played well last night, but suffered from a couple of defensive miscues and faced a red-hot goalie at the other end. They played exciting, entertaining hockey, and that's good. And a look at the players who've participated in this series gives fans well-founded hope that they'll have a deeper playoff run next year.

Goalies:
Jakub DOBES: Rookie nerves and goes down too early, but made some nice saves and, with good coaching, should keep his position as backup goalie next year. Grade C
Samuel MONTEMBEAULT: Pulled a hamstring in Game 3 but probably couldn't have done better than Dobes last night. Has had a good solid season as he grows into his starter's position. Grade B.
Cayden PRIMEAU: Rode the pines as backup last night. Had a poor start with the big club last fall, but was best in the AHL for the remainder of the season. Still worth a look for next year. No grade.

Defence:
Alexandre CARRIER: Came to the Habs at trade deadline and played well enough to be targeted by the opposition's heaviest hitter. Wilson just about killed him in a vicious check into the boards in Game 4. Serge Savard (who knows about these things) called him the Habs' "most complete defenceman." Grade B.
Kaiden GUHLE: Missed a lot of time through injuries but came back late in the season and played well in the playoffs. Able to lead a rush, has a good shot. Grade B+.
Lane HUTSON: What can one say about this 31-year-old rookie phenom? Amazing stick-handler. Set record for most points by a rookie defenceman. Should win the Calder Trophy. Just needs to remember that he is sometimes required to play defence. [Why does he play defence, anyway? Ed.] Grade A-.

Mike MATHESON: He's a horse, stalwart on the blue line and plays big minutes. Skates fast, shoots hard (but not always on target), key man on defence. Grade A-.
David SAVARD: Subject of many trade rumors. Strictly defence, blocks more than his share of shots, almost no presence outside of his own zone. Grade C.
Jayden STRUBLE: Solid stay-at-home defenceman but when the chips are down you wish for someone who brings a little more grit. Grade C.
Arbere XHEKAJ: Watched a lot of games from the press box because indiscipline causes costly penalties. Wants to shoot but needs target practice. Kept his cool against Washington, thus probably keeps his job as #6, over Struble. Grade C.

Forwards:
Josh ANDERSON: Most improved player on the roster, IMHO. Skates faster than I remember, fearsome on the rush, not afraid to fight, never gives up. If only he had an accurate shot. A team leader. Grade A-.
Joel ARMIA: Another subect of trade rumors. Not as strong as last year but teliable on 4th line, and very good on the PK. Grade C.
Cole CAUFIELD: The little ball of fire had a career-high season, good playoff series after regaining his position at the left dot. Pint size makes him weak on defence. Gotta love him though! Grade A-.
Kirby DACH: Who? Injuries kept him out of the lineup since December (?). Had same fragility problem the year before. Should hang up his skates for good. No grade.

Ivan DEMIDOV: KHL superstar joined the Habs just in time for the playoffs. Just watching him skate and stick-handle is a true pleasure. Had a couple of good looks vs Washington but inexperience playing big, tough guys showed. Will take only a little more seasoning to star with les Glorieux. Grade B.
Christian DVORAK: Sleep-walked through first half of the season before settling into a role as go-to faceoff guy. Has trouble staying on his feet, and hands of stone. Probably still worth keeping. Grade B-.
Jake EVANS: A 4th-liner who sometimes looks like he should play higher in the lineup. Good on the PK, sometimes good for a short-handed goal. A keeper. Grade B-.
Brendan GALLAGHER: Still the heart and soul of la Sainte Flanelle, and had a better season than the previous. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. Grade B.

The three non-Canadians in this next group are all trade bait, IMHO:
Emil HEINEMAN: Swede. Got the only goal in last night's game but, in spite of his size, generally a non-factor in the games he played in the regular season and in the playoffs. Doesn't get a lot of ice time, and there's a reason for that. Grade C-.
Oliver KAPANEN: Read paragraph on Heineman. Rinse and repeat except for the part about getting a goal. Grade D.
Patrik LAINE: You'd think a Finn would be tougher, but Laine's always pleading illness or injury. Probably never fully recovered from a substance abuse problem. Has a good shot from his "office" at the left dot, but doesn't pass much, doesn't play defence. Lazy. Grade C.

Alex NEWHOOK: Hey, you don't get a pass just because you're a Canadian. Newhook is very speedy, often splits the defence, but then...  nothing happens. "Going nowhere fast!" Doesn't pass, shoots wide more often than not. Grade C.
Michael PEZZETTA: An "energy player" at best. Said to be a good guy in the room. Still on the roster because there has to be a backup if anyone gets injured. Didn't play enough to get a grade.
Jury SLAFKOVSKY: An enigma. Big guy, good skills. But would his stats look as good if he didn't play with Suzuki and Caufield? Is a puzzlement. What would it take to get him to play with more intensity? Grade B.
Nick SUZUKI: There's a reason why he wears the "C" on his chest. There's nothing he can't do and doesn't do. This season was his best ever, and that's saying something. Grade A. Captain Nick, we wish you many more years!

Advice to Kent Hughes: Take whatever you can get to let some other team deal with Laine's problems. Lose the Swedes; maybe Toronto would like them. Keep Dvorak and Evans unless you can get an equal or better replacement. Prioritize finding a replacement for Savard, who played his last game last night. Tell coach to take time developing Hutson and Demidov. Don't ask too much too soon. And don't make any decisions on goaltending until you've seen Jacob Fowler.

All in all, the Canadiens had a suprisingly good year. Next year is almost guaranteed to be even better!
