Test your English comprehension

See how long it takes you to decode this excellent pun.

Footnote: When I started looking for a suitable photo by entering "girl skater" in Google's image search window, all I got back was images of girls skateboarding! When I amended the search to "girl ice skater", the first five images to appear were girls of colour. What does that tell you about AI and the biases baked into the big search engines?

VIDEO: Your Singhs today (Peel Region edition)

We close the month with yet another story showing what the 1000s of Sikhs who have settled in Brampton ON, Surrey BC, and other Canadian communities have brought to their new home.

Gurpreet Singh, 23, and Husandeep Singh, 20, were arrested (in Winnipeg MB and Mississauga ON respectively) after two Brampton homes were struck by gunfire last month. The CCTV video of the incident, which you see above, we posted by Peel Regional police yesterday.

Gurpreet Singh has been charged with two counts of discharging a firearm with intent and one count of extortion. Husandeep Singh has been charged with one count each of discharging a firearm with intent and extortion.

The cops gave no information on their country of birth, status in Canada, or religion. Nor was any information given as to their employment. Surely not truck drivers!?

Meme of the Week of Robin/Robert Westman

That pretty much sums up the week that was. You can forget about this story now. Nothing here to see folks. Just an isolated incident involving a person with issues.

What about that "Father James Martin"? - BONUS VIDEO ADDED

Some readers have expressed puzzlement over Walt's reference in "What made her/him do it?!", WWW 27/8/25, to "evil priests of the Father Hames Martin type". "Who he?", we hear them ask. That's him  on the right in the picture, giving his priestly blessing to a gay couple.

Father Martin is an American Jesuit priest and pro-queer activist. He was a great friend of the late Jorge Bergoglio (a Jesuit known by some as Pope Francis), and is now in the very good graces of Pope Leo XIV and members of the Mauve Mafia in the Vatican.

Father Martin is objectively a heretic in that he not only denies but openly advocates one of the mortal sins that deprive the soul of grace. They are serious transgressions of God's law, done freely and deliberately with a clear understanding of what they are. Their result is to deny a soul entrance to heaven.

There are particular mortal sins that are so evil that they cry to heaven for vengeance. They are (with Biblical references for our readers who insist that only what's in the Bible counts): murder (Genesis 4:10), sodomy (Genesis 18:20-21), oppression of the poor (Exodus 2:23), and defrauding workers of their just wages (St. James 5:4).

Sodomy and other "choices" of the liberal/libertine lifestyle are still regarded by Holy Mother Church as grave sins, even though modernists priests and bishops don't say the silent part out loud since the days of Pope Benedict XVI. Just one day before his election, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger delivered a homily in which he denounced modern trends he said were undermining Catholicism and Western civilization. "We are moving toward a dictatorship of relativism," he said, "which does not recognize anything for certain and which has as its highest goal one's own ego and one's own desires."

As enforcer of Catholic dogma, Cardinal Ratzinger chastised dissident theologians, said no to female priests, no to married priests and no to gay marriage. He described homosexuality as an "objective disorder and an intrinsic moral evil."

One of the pontiff's most successful and most emotional trips was to the United States in 2008, where he tackled the most painful issue for the Catholic Church in America — clerical sex abuse — saying he was deeply ashamed. "It is in the context of this hope born of God's love and fidelity that I acknowledge the pain which the church in America has experienced as a result of the sexual abuse of minors," he said. "No words of mine could describe the pain and harm inflicted by such abuse ... nor can I adequately describe the damage that has occurred within the community of the Church."

Readers should now understand my wondering, yesterday, if Robin (formerly Robert) Westman might have been "influenced" by "evil priests of the Father James Martin type." If, indeed, the Minneapolis shooter was "influenced" by an evil priest, that does not excuse her/him. But it condemns the one who led the little one astray.

He that shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone should be hanged about his neck, and that he should be drowned in the depth of the sea. (St. Matthew 18:6)

What made her/him do it?!

The lickspittle woke media in the USA and around the world are working feverishly today to keep people from drawing any transphobic inferences from today's tragic murder in Minneapolis of two grade-school children by Robert/Robin Westman, an obvious product of the current fad for "transitioning", which we used to call changing your sex.

For those who were absent on another planet, someone who the authorities and media call "Robin" Westman (without referring to her/his gender) opened fire on a church in which students from Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis were attending Mass to celebrate the start of the new school year. Two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed where they sat in the pews. 17 other people were wounded, 14 of them children. Ms/Mr Westman, aged 23, then shot himself behind the church.

The authorities were quick to say that he/she acted alone and are investigating what s/he left behind that would speak to her/his motive. A video timed by Robin/Robert for posting on YouTube at the very moment of the shooting was quickly taken down, lest we think there must have been something wrong with this individual.

We all know there's nothing abnormal about wanting to change your sex, right? Google's AI know-it-all tells us: "Gender transition is the process of affirming and expressing one's internal sense of gender, rather than the sex assigned to them at birth. It is a recommended course of treatment for individuals experiencing gender dysphoria, providing improved mental health outcomes in the majority of people."

Since Robin Westman would appear to be the exception, let's consider what might have led her... or him... whatever... to attempt to change the way God made him to what he was this morning, as shown in this photo, which, unlike those in the mainstream media, hasn't been cropped to hide his lovely fluffy dyed hair.

Robin Westman was born Robert Westman. Citing court records from Dakota County, WaPo reports that his mother, Mary Westman, applied for a name change for her child in 2019 from "Robert Paul Westman" to "Robin M. Westman" -- "M." for "Mary"? -- because her child "identifies as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification."

Let's start, then, with the theory that her mother made her do it. Perhaps she hated her mother, who worked at the school. But there are other possibilities, other people and organizations who may have influenced young Robert to become Robin.

Minneapolis cops say they are investigating the murders as possible "domestic terrorism" and/or "anti-Catholic hate crime". Is it possible that Robert came to hate the Church and all Catholics as the result of some counselling or encounters in the confessional with evil priests of the Father James Martin type so highly regarded by the Mauve Mafia in Rome? Was Robert an altar boy who wanted to become an altar girl to promote more "inclusivity" in the Church?

What did young Robert do in his spare time? Was he perhaps a member of the Boy Scouts? Did he go to drag queen storytime at his local library? Did he play soccer? Or maybe become a male cheerleader for a real football team?

What did he watch on TV? Sesame Street, home of the openly gay (now) Bert and Ernie, not forgetting Tickle Me Elmo?  The Big Bang Theory, which doesn't have a single truly masculine character in the entire cast? How about Queer Eye for the Straight Guy? [I think that's only shown in the UK. Ed.]

Was Robin interested in politics? As we write, a story is breaking that her video manifesto revealed her to be suffering from TDS, and that she wanted to kill President Trump. Was she perhaps influenced in this by Minnesota goverenor Tim Walz, who is suspected of being a bit light in the loafers himself.

Those are just a few innocent questions that occurred to me at sunset on a black day in America. Certain politicians -- Democrats, of course -- are already saying that Republicans and other conservative types dare not use this tragic "isolated incident" to throw shade on the "transgender community". So I predict you won't see such questions asked in the determinedly pro-queer lickspittle media. Everyone will be very busy looking the other way.

"Trump is not my President!" -- a rational analysis

Even if you're one of the 1000s of non-citizen illegal aliens who were ineligible to vote in the 2024 election, but voted anyway, Donald J. Trump is still your President!

VIDEO: Victor Davis Hanson on hot topics of the day

Yes, again. Regular readers of WWW know Walt has a handful of favourite vloggers, but we do try not to repost too many videos by the same commentator all at once. But today's episode of the Victor Davis Hanson Show is a must-watch!

Mr Hanson and host Jack Fowler discuss the raid on John Bolton's house, the Cracker Barrel logo change, male cheerleaders in the NFL, the hot water James Comey finds himself in, and -- the best part IMHO -- how the Dimocrats got where they are. Blame it on all those Karens!

And there's a bonus! At about 1 hour 04 Mr Hanson goes off on the way certain truck drivers -- graduates of the infamous Singh School of Truck Driving -- make America's roads unsafe.

Key takeaway: "California is a dangerous place to live!"

Remember, dear readers, your comments are always welcome... moderated, but welcome. Just click on the headline and the article will open as a separate page, with the comments window at the bottom.

After 6 months, Afghan "Allahu akbar!" killer finally charged

How time flies and how quickly we forget! Last February, Walt brought you news from Munich, Germany of a horrific attack by a Jihadi wannabe which took the lives of a two-year-old girl and her 37-year-old mother. See "'Allahu akbar!' in German... just in time for the election" WWW 13/2/25 and "Munich Islamic terror attack UPDATE" 14/2/25.

The general election came and went, and a cobbled-together coalition of leftists and centrists pipped Alternativ für Deutschland (AfD) at the post. Apparently the Germans have yet to realize that that the Muslim fanatics really are out to kill them and all the other infidels.

The lickspittle media buried the Munich attack (and others) below the fold, and people forgot. These things have become so common that we don't even bother to search for a follow-up any more. The jihadi wannabes are usually portrayed as "lone wolves", not really part of the Islamic war on the west, and the perpetrators are rarely convicted, let alone deported to whence they came.

So it was a bit of a surprise today when Euronews reported that German authorities have, at long last, laid murder charges against the man who murdered the little girl and her mother, and injured 44 others in the car-ramming rampage.

The man, an Afghan national identified only as Farhad N., was arrested immediately after the attack during a labour union demonstration. He came to Germany as one of the asylum-seekers so beloved of Angela Merkel and other politicians suffering from white guilt. (The German version of this diseasis especially virulent, which accounts for the outcome of the above-mentioned election.)

Prosecutors say Herr N. was motivated by "a desire to avenge the suffering of Muslims." Ah yes, all those poor refugee and sylum-seekers... millions of them... still being fed and housed by the no-longer-Nazi German people.

"The accused committed the act out of excessive religious motivation," the prosecutorssaid in the statement. He believed he was obliged to attack and kill randomly selected people in Germany in response to the suffering of Muslims in Islamic countries." Makes sense, no? No!

Your Singhs today (Brampton edition)

Brampton ON is a Sikh community... or a sick community, depending on your point of view. But if you're a gambler, you can bet with confidence that any news report about criminal activity in the former Flower Town of Canada will involve a Sikh, whose middle or last name (because of their religion) will be "Singh".

We have for some time now posted stories about brown crimes and misdemeanors involving graduates of the notorious Singh School of Truck Driving -- enter "Singh" in the search box at upper right" for a long list -- and others of that ilk.

But not all the miscreants are drug smugglers. Some are persons of high standing in the Sikh society, such as Members of Parliament, municipal councillors, and even lawyers, like the one named in this report from CTV News

Clients lose $3 million after Brampton lawyer fraudulently uses his trust account
Police are asking the public for information after receiving several complaints over the past two months about a Brampton lawyer who is allegedly fraudulently using his trust account.

Investigators from Peel Regional Police’s Fraud Bureau say to date, the complainants have been financially impacted in an amount totaling more than $3 million dollars. A criminal investigation was launched into the allegations against Mr. Pawanjeet Mann, of PJ Mann Law at 214-5 Brisdale Dr.

As per the Law Society of Ontario, Mann’s licence to practice law has been revoked.

But (Walt hears you say), they don't say the crooked lawyer is a Singh or a Sikh! And there's no photo. Of course not! The lickspittle media carefully avoid revealing anything that would throw fuel on the firest of anti-south-Asian sentiment burning brightly in the Toronto and Vancouver areas, and indeed right across Canada from sea to shining sea.

But our Ed. has done the due diligence and come up with this listing on Lawyer.com for Pawanjeet Singh Mann, of PJ Mann Law Professional Corporation. Unfortunately asearch for that name, in its entirey, turned up so many photos of turban-wearing Pawanjeet Singhs that we are unable to tell which is the one who allegedly pocked millions of his clients' Canadian dollars (about $2.15 million in real money).

Anyone who can shed further light on this story of discreditable conduct and abuse of trust is urged to contact Inspector Singh (no relation) of the Peel Region police Fraud Bureau at 905-453-3311, ext. 3335, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

UPDATED: Latest example of "Get woke, go broke!"

Remember Bud Light? Apparently not. Some brilliant executives can't or won't learn a simple lesson (see headline).

VIDEO: Victor Davis Hanson exposes blatant anti-white racism

Hey, whitey! The attack on your race and your culture -- not to mention, in some places, your life -- is now out in the open.

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid is under fire for blasting white people on her podcast, saying "they can’t invent anything" and claiming American music is solely the domain of black Americans. This type of rhetoric, embraced by DEI ideology, is nothing short of racial essentialism... and dangerously divisive.

In this short (6.26) of "Victor Davis Henson: In His Own Words", the sage explains why such rhetoric threatens America's identity as a successful multiracial democracy (if you accept that premise) and why ethnic and racial chauvinism must be rejected.

Key takeaways: "Joy Reid is basically saying that black people are cognitively superior to other people. I wish this was an isolated incident. But remember, we've had this controversy before, about the president of Sacramento State, Luke Wood, who, in his past, was an African American intellectual activist, as he self-describes himself. And he said he wanted to 'eliminate' — that's a bad word to use, given the history of it in the 20th century — 'eliminate whiteness.' Again, no repercussions.

"We have zero tolerance when racists, who are white, say such things about other groups. But in a truly multiracial, tolerant society, people who not only attack a group, collectively, and stereotype it, but they do so from positions of influence and power — like The New Yorker magazine or a former MSNBC anchor — they can do a great deal of damage, unless they're called out for it."

VIDEO: Celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day!

"Slava Ukraini!" (Слава Україні!) is a Ukrainian national salute meaning "Glory to Ukraine!". It serves as a symbol of Ukrainian sovereignty, resistance, and national pride, and is the official military salute of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The customary response to "Slava Ukraini!" is "Heroiam slava!" (Героям слава!), which means "To the heroes — glory!".

To all Ukrainians, wherever you are:
Walt, Poor Len [and Ed.! Ed.] stand with you!
Be strong. Never surrender! Слава Україні!

VIDEO: Hot new attraction at Niagara Falls (the good side)

Agent 78 has called our attention to a video promoting "Niagara Takes Flight", the brand new catchpenny attraction on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. It's a fully-immersive flying theatre ride, taking visitors to the skies for a breathtaking journey along the Niagara River corridor, with thrilling views of Niagara Falls and its surrounding landscape from the sky.

Sez the promotional copy, "You'll soar across 56 kilometres of parkland, from the shores of Lake Ontario to the edge of Lake Erie, as breathtaking landscapes unfold beneath you. Gliding over swirling rapids and steep rock faces, past lush forests and through dramatic battles that changed the course of history, all before getting closer than ever before to the thundering Horseshoe Falls."

Cinematic visuals shot across all four seasons unfold on a 55-foot dome screen while motion-based and other sensory effects like wind, mist and scent come together to create the exhilarating illusion of free flight.

There is a pre-show voiced by James Cameron (yes, that James Cameron) which is heavy with woke "land acknowledgment" propaganda -- how the Indians First Nations saved the falls from the rapacious white colonizers.

There's almost no attempt to explain the historical moments and sites shown on the screen, but hey, the ride's the thing, and I think the Niagara Parks Commission -- kudos to them! -- hopes at least a few of the tourists will visit the other sites shown and learn that there's much more to Niagara than just the falls! Tell `em Walt sent ya!

Coming soon to your city? The Hock Ptui victory tour!

In what country does the loser of an election get to do a victory lap? Why, in the Excited States of America, of course. Better believe it folks. Yesterday on "X", Kamela Harris (aka Worst. Candidate. Ever.) announced that she was going to visit herself on 106 US cities (and one in the 51st state) to promote her new book, 107 Days

In the announcement, the fragrant Ms Harris (aka Hock Ptui) said,
"107 Days is my candid and personal account of the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. Over the next few months, I will travel our country to share behind-the-scenes moments, lessons learned, and how we keep moving forward together. I'll see you out there."

This is a case of doubling down on a history of failure. Readers may recall that the previous Dimocratic female candidate did a similar tour, which bombed at the box office. Ms Harris' announcement has received the social media scorn which it richly deserves.

One person comment called it "a book full of word salad. A must read, I’m sure." Another said, "You spent over one billion dollars in 107 days and you still lost." Another said simply, "It's over. Get over it."

VIDEO: The DEI problem in the handling of large, lethal machines

There are lots of problems with the theory and practice of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Chief among those, IMHO, is that the "E" (for "Equity"), in demanding equality in everything for everbody, regardless of race, gender, religion etc, is premised on the theory that God created everyone equal. He did not.

Look around you, in your workplace, your classroom, your place of worship, wherever. You cannot avoid seeing a rainbow of different colours, different sizes, different shapes, and different genders (although how many "genders" there are is disputed nowadays).

Those are the differences you can see. As you interact with the humans around you, you find that they have different cultures, different religions (religion and culture being inseparable), different aptitudes (white men can't jump!) and different levels of intelligence.

To expect that you can mold Diversity into Equality is the veriest nonsense. I would like to be an all-star hockey player (with the Montréal Canadiens, of course!), but I don't have the ability or the talent, and you can't force the Habs to let me play for them because short, bald, overweight octagenarians are under-represented on their roster.

Admit it! Some people are better at some things than others, and some are worse, sometimes tragically so. Some readers have noted (and taken me to task for) my remarks about Chinese drivers. And Chinese sailors. And I'm not the only one to question the wisdom of letting poorly trained pilots fly airplanes just because they're women. See "DEI pilot song", WWW 15/8/25 (includes video).

That brings me to this video recreation by Allec Joshua Ibay of the tragic crash of Kenya Airways flight 507, a scheduled Abidjan–Douala–Nairobi passenger service, operated with a Boeing 737-800, that crashed in the initial stage of its second leg immediately after takeoff from Douala International Airport in Caméroun on 5 May 2007.

To see how this proves my point about DEI, you should understand that when the African colonies of Britain, France and Portugal were given their independence... ready or not... in the 1960s, one of the first things the new black rulers did was to set up a national airline. Hey, how can you be a nation without an airline.

Since there were almost no black pilots in those days -- not even in the US of A -- hundreds of black Africans were enrolled in crash courses [Careful now... Ed.] to learn how to fly these ultra-sophisticated marvels of aeronautical engineering. Until they did, pilots were recruited from Europe and North America.

Then came DEI, or "Africanization" as it was termed on the Dark Continent. It was shameful, the liberals said, that white men (almost none of the pilots were female) should be flying African airliners. As if the locals couldn't do it! And so you got pilots like the captain of Flight 507, who, in spite of many flying hours, never quite got the hang of things like managing the autopilot.

Note also that the first officer on the ill-fated flight had only 837 hours of experience. He had been the subject of incessant criticism by the captain and didn't dare to open his mouth about the impending disaster until after the captain said "We are crashing!"

What you see there is African culture at work. (I say this as one with seven years' experience in training and management in southern Africa.) Africans defer to age and authority, as they still do to tribal chiefs. (Yes, such things still exist.) To question an elder, especially one who has just called you out, is unheard of. By the time the FO got over that cultural block, it was too late.

In closing, let me repeat the point of "The DEI pilot song", as the lesson to be learned from this video. It's not about white supremacy, but about how the woke goals affect airline standards, pilot competency, and aviation safety. Will qualified candidates be passed over in the name of diversity? Can DEI hiring and meritocracy coexist?

Sadly, the problems caused by DEI are not unique to the aviation industry. Any human enterprise involving more than one person must sooner or later face the reality that we are not all created equal.

Allec Joshua Ibay, RIP.
We are sad indeed to report that one of our favourite bloggers, Allec Joshua Ibay, best known for his "Air Disasters" series on YouTube, died in a car crash in his native Philippines on 24 July 2025. Allec had a lifelong interest in airplanes and aviation, and always wanted to be an airline pilot, like his father before him.

While he was learning to fly, he started creating these simulations using FS2004, to educate himself and others about the lessons to be learned from these accidents. Over the years, he put up 728 videos, and his channel has over 272,000 followers.

Allec did get his commercial pilot's licence a couple of years ago, but now has been taken from us. But through his channel, he's still "keepin' `em flying." RIP.

Your Singhs today - Part of the Wedding party nabbed at the border

In a story straight out of Border Security, two graduates of the notorious Singh School of Truck Driving -- Ranjit Singh Rowal and Iqbal Singh Virk -- both "Toronto men", have agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and other federal charges in California, in connection with a transnational drug-smuggling conspiracy, allegedly led by former Team Canada Olympian Ryan Wedding.

The Sikh gentlemen are the first Canadians to sign plea deals with US prosecutors following the FBI's "Operation Giant Slalom", a massive investigation revealed last fall. The probe -- named after Mr Wedding's previous career as an elite snowboarder [snowboarder, geddit? Ed.] -- sought to dismantle his alleged drug trafficking network, which uses commercial transport trucks to move tons of cocaine and fentanyl across North America.

The group has also been linked to at least four murders in Ontario. Mr Wedding, who competed for Canada at the 2002 Olympic Games in Utah, is listed as one of the FBI's most-wanted fugitives, with a $10-million reward offered for information leading to his capture. Readers may send their tips to Walt at the usual address, and I will definitely pass them on the relevant authorities.

According to documents recently filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, .Messrs Virk and Rowal have each committed to plead guilty to charges including conspiracy to distribute cocaine. The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

They were arrested in August of last year as they tried to cross the Blue Water Bridge from Michigan to Sarnia ON, while carrying 95 kg of cocaine bricks and 20 kg of heroin in a secret compartment in the trailer.

They attempted to conceal the drugs by carrying legal goods and documentation to show the products were meant to be hauled from the US. to Canada. However, CBP agents pulled their truck over for a secondary inspection, where an X-ray scanner and a sniffer dog revealed the "non-factory" compartment.

CBC News discovered that the trailer was registered to a company based in Brampton ON linked to Mr Rowal. A grand jury indictment unsealed last October named him and Mr Virk -- Indian citizens who hold permanent resident status in Canada -- as well as 14 others as members of Mr Wedding's drug ring.

The indictment said the pair worked on behalf of a transportation network that handled the gang's shipments to Canada. However, the transnational criminal operation didn't always go smoothly. Court documents reveal an internal dispute in May 2024 led to one big drug shipment being called off.

According to the plea, Messrs Virk and Rowal pulled over at a rest stop in southern California, expecting to receive a 347-kg load of cocaine. Their truck, however, only had room for 250 kg. Through an intermediary, Mr Wedding purportedly offered to pay C$150,000 (about $108,000 in real money) to move the reduced shipment, instead of the agreed rate of $220,000.

But Gurpreet Singh, a Sikh and allegedly a leader of the transportation network, wouldn't agree to the cut rate. The shipment was called off. Mr Singh and his uncle, Hardeep Singh Ratte, who are accused of co-ordinating cocaine shipments to Canada for Mr Wedding, both remain in custody in Ontario while facing extradition to the US of A. How difficult it must be at the jail when the guards call for "Singh" and everybody stands up!

CBC News recently reported that a historic drug bust in Peel Region, west of Toronto, mirrored the smuggling route used by the Sikh truckers. Peel police (known locally as "boobies") said it's highly likely the Wedding network remains active in the so-called Greater Toronto Area.

Mr Wedding -- alias "Public Enemy", "Giant", "El Jefe", and "The Boss" -- is said to still trafficking drugs while on the run, and to have access to a network of hitmen. The FBI thinks he may be hiding in... wait for it... Mexico, under the protection of the murderous Sinaloa cartel.

Note from Ed.: This is an edited version of a report by Thomas Daigle, of CBC News. Since the Canadian Broadcorping Castration is funded by Canada's very Liberal government, we assume they don't need any money they might get by suing us.

"Canada's Trump" squeaks back into House of Commons

Battle River - Crowfoot is a riding (electoral district) in the southeast part of the Canadian province of Alberta, so ["half-vast"? Ed.] that it takes an entire day to drive through it. But that's what the Honourable Pierre Poilievre, erstwhile leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, has been doing (along with over 200 other candidates) for the last six weeks, to win a seat in Caanuckistan's House of Commons, having lost his Ottawa seat in the last general election.

After losing his seat in an upset, M Poilievre parachuted into one of Canada’s safest conservative districts -- despite not living there -- to win the by-election called when the Conservative who won the riding (with nearly 80% of the vote) graciously stepped aside to give  his place to his leader. Greater love hath no man. Here's Lucky Pierre on the campaign trail, explaining the horrible mistake Canuck voters made in last April's general election.

Conservatives were watching closely to see if their leader could ease the worries of voters in the rural heartland [Hey, I've seen that series! Ed.] about how he'll handle the trade war fallout, connect with their economic struggles and bring Canadians together. Said the Mayor of Wainwright AB, "If he isn’t elected, we’d better get down on our knees and start praying, because the end of the world is coming."

It took until the wee hours of this morning, but Walt is pleased to report that M Poilievre led the polls right from the get-go, and beat 212 other candidates [This is not a joke. But it is another story. Ed.] garnering over 80% of the vote. Walt sez: Good for him! And good luck to him!

VIDEO: Your Singhs today (California edition)

An assiduous reader has emailed to ask why our posts on "Your Singhs today" always focuses on Canada, notably the Toronto and Vancouver areas. "We're plagued with them too!", writes our acidulous correspondent, "and I'm pretty sure there's a Singh School of Truck Driving somewhere in California."

As proof of this, our reader sent us the link to this video which just appeared on "X".

The story is confirmed by Breitbart News. under the headline "FL Officials: Illegal Alien Trucker from India Received CDL from California Before Killing 3 Americans"

BN reports that the driver of a semi-truck involved in the deaths of three Americans has been identified as Harjinder Singh, a migrant from India who illegally entered the United States in 2018 across the U.S. border with Mexico. He's one of the 1000s that ICE hadn't caught until this happened.

The accident -- now being designated as a homicide -- occurred near Fort Pierce FL on August 12th, when a northbound semi-truck allegedly crossed over all lanes as the driver tried to use an "official use only" turn opening on the Florida Turnpike so he could head south. Well, that's the way they do it in India. Rules? What rules?

The abrupt crossing of all lanes gave other drivers little time to slow down, resulting in a Chrysler Town & Country slamming head-on into the trailer. All three of the car’s occupants died as a result of the collision, two at the scene and a third at a hospital, according to WPTV-TV.

Officials initially noted that the men in the cab of the semi were from California, and video of the drivers' dashcam was released. That's what you see above.

A statement from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FHSMV) said Mr Singh obtained a commercial driver's license (CDL) in California. The Democratically-run state allows migrants — including tourists and illegal aliens like Mr Singh — to quickly get licenses to operate 18-wheel trucks.

A spokesthing for the Florida Department of Highway Safety [Ha!] and Motor Vehicles told the meeja, "Three people lost their lives as a result of his recklessness, and countless friends and family members will experience the pain of their loss forever. Harjinder Singh is in custody on state vehicular homicide charges and immigration violations. He will no longer be able to damage and destroy the lives of Floridians and visitors."

Mr Singh has been arrested, and officials say they are investigating the incident as a homicide. The illegal migrant is also on an ICE detainer, and Florida officials say he will be deported after he serves his prison sentence, whatever that sentence may be.

BN comments: "As more migrants hit our roads — many of whom cannot read or speak English — the death toll on our highways has skyrocketed. The Trump administration has taken notice of this horrible statistic, and recently, Trump’s transportation secretary, Sean Duffy, directed federal highway safety offices to enforce a law requiring foreign drivers to be able to read English."

Walt comments: This is just one very small tip of one very large iceberg. There are literally millions of Singhs in the USA and Canada. Not all of them are bad people, but since they all share the same middle- or surname, and all wear turbans (and the little daggers and holy underpants) separating the sheep fro the goats is a major problem.

USA to admit 40,000 refugees. Guess who goes to the head of the line?

If you guessed Palestinians or Afghans, let me remind you that this is President Donald J. Trump's America, not the woke train wreck that preceded it. America is becoming great again! Anyhoo, a report from Reuters today says the new administration is discussing a refugee admissions cap of around 40,000 for the coming year, with a majority allocated to... wait for it... white South Africans!

Some readers may be puzzled by a story about white South African "refugees". Walt has written several times about the plight of the Afrikaners -- those of Dutch descent known as "Boers" (meaning "farmers") -- trying to get out of the moribund black-ruled state before their land is taken from them.

See, for instance, "Aussies welcome Boers fleeing South African land grab", WWW 14/3/18. Woke governments like those of Canada, the Disunited Kingdon and Joe Biden's USA have not welcomed them. "They're white supremacists, you know... believers in apartheid... racists... Nazis... Hitler..."

Not so the government of Australia, which (as the post linked above says) decided seven years ago that they were the kind of immigrants who would contribute something to a country where they would't be subject to anti-white racism.

Now the USA has done a 180 from the woke refugee policies of the Dimocrats. In an e-mail cited by Reuters, Angie Salazar, the top refugee program official at the Department of Health and Human Services, told state-level refugee workers that she expected the cap to be 40,000, with about 30,000 of those spaces allocated to  devoted to Afrikaners.

The 40,000-person cap would be a sharp drop from the 100,000 refugees brought in by Demented Joe in fiscal 2024, but higher than the record-low 15,000-person ceiling set for fiscal 2021 before the end of President Trump's first term.

A separate person familiar with the matter said that in addition to the 40,000 figure, a cap as low as 12,000 had also been discussed. President Trump froze refugee admissions immediately after taking office in January, but weeks later launched a programme for Afrikaners, saying the white minority group suffered racial discrimination and violence in majority-Black South Africa.

I, for one, welcome the Boers to my corner of the forest. Chances are they'll do well here, like the Heysteks, who immigrated to Alberta, Canada in the late 1990s, when the black Africans took over the most prosperious country in Africa and started running it into the ground. Here's daughter Susanna and her family, playing some very Canadian fiddle tunes.

If you liked the music and/or want to know more about the Heysteks and why they left South Africa, check out "South Africa's loss is Canada's gain", WWW 28/4/19.
Guys wanting to propose marriage to Susanna (age 15 in the video) are advised to check out her most recent bio, here. She plays the viola now.

Your Singhs today - The secret to remaining in Canada

We couldn't let the week end without a story about Sikhs who have entered Canuckistan by questionable means, and stayed on, in spite of questionable behaviour, whether their hosts country like it or not.

Today we present the heart-warming story of Jagjit Singh, who has been allowed by the Federal Court of Canada to remain in the country "on compassionate grounds", just moments before minions of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) were set to begin the physical deportation process.

Mr Singh, whose current location is a state secret, arrived in Canada in 2021 on a temporary resident visa and immediately filed a refugee claim. [SFX,music: "As Time Goes By".] In January 2025, he married "L.B.", a Canadian citizen, and withdrew his refugee claim shortly after she submitted an inland spousal sponsorship application on his behalf.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) -- the government department whose mission is to welcome half a million foreigners to Canada in the coming year -- confirmed in May that L.B. met the eligibility criteria to sponsor Mr Singh, but no decision on his application for permanent residence application has yet been made.

In early August, Mr Singh asked the CBSA to defer his removal until at least a preliminary decision was made on his sponsorship application. [SFX: "As Time Goes By" swells in background.] The CBSA refused, citing insufficient evidence that his removal would cause serious harm.

Federal Court Justice Avvy Yao-Yao Go disagreed, finding that the immigration officer misinterpreted their discretion and failed to properly assess evidence that Singh's removal would significantly harm his wife, who suffers from... wait for it... ADHD and relies on him for daily structure, medication reminders, and financial support.

The judge did not discose L.B.'s name, let alone her race or religion -- issues of privacy, you know -- but noted that L.B. has no other reliable family support and that Mr Singh also contributes financially to his sister's household, where the couple lives.

Justice Go acknowledged the public interest in enforcing removal orders -- murmurs from the well of the court: "Yah, sure. Hahahahaha." -- but said she found that any delay in processing Mr Singh's permanent residence application lay with IRCC, not the innocent Sikh! "Taking into consideration the irreparable harm to the Applicant’s spouse," she ruled, "granting the stay until the underlying application is determined would be just and equitable."

So Mr Singh remains in Canada, his deportation now on hold until the court decides whether to grant judicial review of CBSA’s decision to deny his deferral request. [SFX: "As Time Goes By", up and out.]

Justice Go, who was appointed to the Federal Court of Canada by Prime Minister Blackie McBlackface, has no legal training. However, she was for years a human rights advocate championing better treatment of migrant workers, refugees, asylum-seekers, etc and so forth.

Walt is unable to find any record of her having denied any application by any such person to remain in the Great No-longer-white North. So the secret to being allowed to remain in Canada is obviously: when you're judge-shopping, shop wisely!

Thanks and a big bowl of Meow Mix to BCF for the lead.

Memo from Ed. to Walt: I'm really sorry, but I couldn't figure out how to embed the SFX. Readers will just have to hum it to themselves.

VIDEO: DEI pilot song... nothing to do with Delta Airlines, of course

As we write, Air Canada is shutting down all flights in preparation for a strike by its stewardesses flight attendants, or a lockout of its stewardesses flight attendants, which could begin tomorrow (Saturday) unless there is a last-minute intervention by the government of Canuckistan.

Oddly overlooked in the boiler-plate list of demands by CUPE, the union representing the FAs, is any mention of more DEI. Perhaps AC is already "woke" enough. And of course it's not an American airline, most of which are suffering from too much DEI.

If you're about to fly with Delta (see "Further viewing", below) or any other US airline which has wokeness built into its mission statement and hiring practices, consider this little ditty.

Walt suggests you take seriously the problems posed by too much DEI. United Airlines has vowed that 50% of its future pilot hires will be women and people (of other genders?) of colour by 2030. American and Southwest have pledged similar DEI commitments, and Delta is already regretting theirs.

The point of the song is not about hate or toxic masculinity or white supremacy, but about how the woke goals affect airline standards, pilot competency, and aviation safety. Will qualified candidates be passed over in the name of diversity? Can DEI hiring and meritocracy coexist at 30,000 feet? Give this some thought before booking your next flight.

And if you decide (or are forced) to fly anyway, Walt hopes you won't hear the pilot say, "Hello dere! Dis is Captain Latisha!"

Innocent question from Ed.: When pilots were almost all men, they called the place where they worked "cockpit"? What's it called now?

VIDEO: Chinese war ships collide while harrassing Filipino patrol boat

Walt has been taken to task for suggesting, in "Walt recommends NOT trying to drive in China", WWW 28/7/25, that the Chinese have a deserved reputation for being poor drivers. Does the phrase "Chinese fire drill" not mean anything to you?

There is a reason for every stereotype, and the Chinese problem with steering and following the rules of the road -- "Ruse are for othe peeper!" -- extends beyond terra firm, onto the water. This was demonstrated just yesterday, when two Chinese vessels collided in the South China Sea while pursuing a Philippine patrol boat near the contested Scarborough Shoal.

Yes, we have video, released by officials in Manila, which shows a Chinese coast guard vessel shooting a water cannon and tracking close behind a Philippine coast guard boat until the former collided with a much larger People’s Liberation Army craft, leaving visible damage on both Chinese vessels.

The video, taken from the stern of the Filipino patrol boat BRP Suluan, shows a Chinese Coast Guard vessel aggressively and dangerously firing a water cannon while pursuing the smaller Filipino craft at high speed. The Chinese Coast Guard vessel then slammed into an even bigger People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ship that was maneuvering behind the Suluan.

The Filipino patrol boat, having observed Chinese personnel working on the deck of the Coast Guard ship before the collision, circled around to offer assistance, but the Chinese did not respond.

The Philippine Foreign Ministry said today that the actions of the Chinese ships "not only posed a grave danger to Philippine personnel and vessels, but also resulted in the unfortunate collision between the two Chinese vessels. Yesterday's incident demonstrates the importance of adhering to international maritime rules."

Walt is reminded of one of the early scenes from Bridge on the River Kwai in which the Japanese Colonel Saito shouts at the British Colonel Nicholson, "Rules? What rules?! What do you know of rules?! This is war, not a game of cricket!"

Having sex in your car on top of a cliff can earn you a Darwin Award

The creators say: "The Darwin Awards honor those who tip chlorine into our gene pool, by accidentally removing their own DNA from it during the spectacular climax of a 'great idea' gone veddy, veddy wrong." Here's the sad story, in three pictures, of a Brazilian couple who deserve a join award, first class.

Meet 42-tear-old Adriana Machado Ribeiro, aged 42, and Marcone da Silva Cardoso, aged 27. A week ago they decided, after leaving a party, to have an intimate moment in a car parked at the top of

this scenic overlook in Venda Nova do Imigrante. Unfortunately for them, the ground there was very wet, especially at the top of a hang-gliding ramp, on which they parked. When the car started rockin'

it fell several hundred feet down the cliff, where it was located later that morning by a local caretaker. The pair's naked bodies were found at the base of a rock, while vehicle parts were scattered in the nearby vegetation.

A spokesthingy for the força policial told the meeja "There were no signs of violence at the scene or on the bodies, and the car’s handbrake was engaged. Residents reported hearing a loud noise between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m., but because it was dark and the vegetation was thick, no one saw anything at the time."

The cops concluded that the late couple's movements prompted the vehicle to teeter over the edge and fall. Good police work there, Lou! And a cautionary tale for all of us.

VIDEO: Movie Review: "The Blue Angel" (1930) - Marlene Dietrich

As I was saying, it's hot in this corner of the forest. Too hot to go outside -- I'm neither a mad dog nor an Englishman -- so this afternoon I plopped myself down in front of the idiot's lantern, firing up the old remote to see what's on. Well, actually, I wasn't trying to see what was on so much as what else was on. Hey, I'm a man. [Credit to Jerry Seinfeld, please. Ed.]

I was pleased and ah-mazed to find the English version of  The Blue Angel (Der blaue Engel), a 1930 German psycho-drama in the guise of a musical comedy, directed by Josef von Sternberg and starring Marlene Dietrich, Emil Jannings and Kurt Gerron.

The screenplay was written by Carl Zuckmayer, Karl Vollmöller and Robert Liebmann, with uncredited contributions by Herr von Sternberg. It is based on Heinrich Mann's 1905 novel Professor Unrat (Professor Filth) and set in an unspecified northern German port city.

The Blue Angel presents the tragic transformation of a respectable professor into a cabaret clown and his descent into madness. Here's the trailer.

The film, now considered a classic of German cinema, was the first feature-length German sound film. It brought Marlene Dietrich international fame, and also introduced her signature song, "Falling in Love Again (Can't Help It)".

The film was shot simultaneously in German- and English-language versions. Though the English version was once thought to be lost, a print was discovered in a German film archive, restored and screened at San Francisco's Berlin and Beyond film festival in 2009. That's the one I watched, but if you understand German, that version is considered to be "obviously superior" -- longer and not marred by actors struggling with English pronunciation.

And now... spoiler alert... here's a synopsis of the plot. Immanuel Rath (Jannings) is a professor at a Gymnasium (high school for brighter students) in Weimar Germany. The boys disrespect and play pranks on him. Rath punishes several of his students for circulating photographs of the beautiful Lola Lola, the headliner at the local cabaret called The Blue Angel.

Rath goes to the club, hoping to catch the boys. While chasing after his naughty students, he finds Lola backstage and becomes infatuated with her. When he returns to the cabaret the following evening to return a pair of panties that was smuggled into his coat by one of his students, he winds up defending her from an aggressive patron. Lola is charmed by his chivalry, and serenades him from the stage.

The next morning, Rath wakes up in Lola's bed. After having breakfast with Lola, Rath arrives late to school. Knowing of his visits to the Blue Angel, his pupils are openly mocking and contemptuous of him. Their misbehaviour attracts a school official who, after dismissing the students, makes it clear to Rath that marrying a woman like Lola would end his career.

In spite of the warning, Rath resigns his position at the school and marries Lola. Their happiness is short-lived, however, as Rath becomes humiliatingly dependent on Lola. Over time, he sinks lower and lower, first selling dirty postcards, and then becoming a clown in Lola's troupe to pay the bills.

His growing insecurities about Lola's profession as a "shared woman" eventually consume him with lust and jealousy as Lola and the rest of the troupe lose respect for him.

Five years after Rath's resignation from the school, the troupe returns to The Blue Angel, where everyone attends to watch the former professor play a clown. On stage, Rath is humiliated by the magician Kiepert, who breaks eggs on Rath's head, and by seeing Lola embrace and kiss the strongman Mazeppa. Rath is enraged to the point of insanity.

He attempts to strangle Lola, but Mazeppa and others subdue him and lock him in a straitjacket. Later that night, Rath is released and he revisits his old classroom. Rejected, humiliated and destitute, he dies clutching the desk at which he once taught.

Some comedy, eh! But Germans have never been known for their sense of humour.

Now a word from the chair... by which I mean the item of furniture on which la Dietrich is posed on one of the most famous stills from the film. We see in the topmost photo, her classic cabaret pose. Her reclining position with one leg elevated was selected after a dozen other attitudes were tested and discarded.

In the photo under the video, we see her straddling the chair "...imperiously, magisterially, fully the measurer of men in the audience..." The pose was considered erotic at the time, and many readers will find it so today. It can't be denied that Marlene Dietrich has gorgeous gams -- a matched set! -- and the poses with the chair show them to their best advantage.

Other directors and actresses have noticed, and it will be obvious from the remaining photos that her cabarat performance in The Blue Angel informed the excellent turns by Liza Minnelli, as Sally Bowles in Cabaret (1972) and Madeline Kahn as Lili (yes, "Lili") Von Shtupp in Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles (1974), the last being the only movie which was actually a comedy.

Three great cabaret scenes by three great actresses [I'm not sure we can allow that word. Why not "actors"? Ed.] who can also sing and dance. Which is best? Which one has the best legs? You be the judge!

The dog days of summer

Walt admits to falling into near-terminal lassitude during the "dog days of summer" -- the hot and humid days of summer. This phrase can be traced back thousands of years to the days of the Roman Empire. It refers to the dates from 3 July through 11 August -- 20 days before and 20 days after the star Sirius rises and falls in conjunction with the sun.

At this time, when it's an effort to punch out more than a couple of paragraphs on the keyboard, we here at WWW are very grateful for Patriot Post, a reliable source for stuff with which to fill this space.

Note from Agent 3: Look at the map carefully. See how the circle exclused part of the Aleutians, all of Newfoundland, and the southern part of Florida in which is located Mar-a-Lago. What can it all mean?

Crackdown on illegal immigrants worries and angers Muslims

Doesn't look like LA, does it. Well, it's not. It's Gurugram, an upscale suburb just outside Delhi, India. But, come to think of it, there are similarities with the City of the Angels. Gleaming SUVs, futuristic skyscrapers and neat apartments stand in stark contrast to nearby homeless encampments and feces-strewn streets.

Unlike the slums of LA, those of Gurugram are inhabited by people who aren't living off food stamps and the proceeds of dealing drugs, but working! They are migrant workers -- mostly domestic helpers, garbage-pickers and daily-wage workers. Last month, the Indian version of ICE rounded up hundreds of them, mostly Bengali-speaking Muslims from India's West Bengal state.

The mass arrests are part of a "verification" drive targeting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The suspects were detained and kept at "holding centres" (not to be confused with "concentration camps") where they were asked to provide documents to prove their citizenship.

Many allege they were beaten and mistreated by police during the process. Ather Ali Sheikh told the BBC, "I had my voter and national ID cards, but they told me they were fake. I spent six days not knowing my fate before I was finally released." How very misfortunate for him!

Hundreds of migrant workers have fled overnight, abandoning jobs, homes and, in some cases, even families in their haste to escape. "I still don't understand why they suddenly came after me," Mr Sheikh said. Behind him, his wife hurriedly packed their belongings - torn clothes, old utensils and school books - into flimsy boxes. "Was it because of my language, my religion or because I am poor? Why weren't the rich Bengali residents held up?"

Police in Gurugram deny targeting any particular community. "Neither religion nor class has anything to do with the drive," spokesthingy Sandeep Kumar told the Beeb. He added that out of the 250 people picked up, only 10 have been identified as illegal migrants and will actually be deported. "Everyone else was released. No one was mistreated at the centres. We have been completely fair and objective."

Crackdowns on alleged illegal immigrants from Muslim-majority Bangladesh are not new in India. The countries are divided by a porous 2500-mile-long border, which, ever since the partition of India, has seen waves of movement of people on both sides. But these efforts seem to have intensified under the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Deportations are also under way in Delhi, where some 700 people were picked up and flown out to border states in the last six months. This has had a chilling impact on the marginalised community. In Gurugram, a sense of shock prevailed over their dust-blanketed colonies. "For years, we have cleaned and collected their garbage. Now we are being treated like it ourselves," said Rauna Bibi, a domestic worker.

The police say the detentions in Gurugram were made on the basis of strong preliminary evidence. You'll notice that the lady in the photo isn't so poor that she can't afford a phone with which to take a selfie. But the phone may have been her undoing. "We checked their phones," said the same police flak-catcher, "and found suspicious contacts from Bangladesh. Some of them also failed to answer questions about their ancestry during interrogation."

Suhas Chakma, a non-Muslim human rights worker, denies that the crackdown is motivated by Islamophobia. "The arrest of the Muslims appears to be more as they constitute about 95% of Bangladesh's population," he explained. But, he added, for a country that has seen an influx of refugees for decades, India does need a wider refugee law to address many of these complex issues.

"A wider refugee law." Right. Like that of... where??? Let it not be said that Prime Minister Modi is looking to President Trump for inspiration -- although he probably is. Let us instead wonder how much longer the prime ministers of Britain and Canada can get away with not taking similar measures before what's left of their countries' white  populace rise up in arms.

VIDEO: What's wrong with the Sydney Sweeney ad?

Walt was not far enough away from civilization (?) to avoid the controversy over this ad for American Eagle jeans. "Some people" (you know who I mean) are criticizing the ad for being "provocative", "divisive" and even... wait for it... "racist"! Well, let's have a look.

I'd say 1000s of real women are running down to their local clothing emporium, even as we speak, to buy a pair or three. And hundreds of thousands of real men are buying a pair (or three) for their significant others.

Why not? Well, the wokesters at The Body Optimist will tell you why this ad offends them, in an article headed: "It's even racist!": Sydney Sweeney criticized for an ad deemed provocative", by Léa Michel (note the pretentious spelling of the name) posted today. No need to follow the link. Walt is going to turn on the bullshit meter and analyze the whole steaming load. The woke BS is in pink and my comments are in brackets.

Now American Eagle's latest campaign featuring actress Sydney Sweeney has set social media ablaze. With the slogan "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans," the brand aimed for "a stylish homage to denim classics." Except the message wasn't received the same way by everyone. Accused of reviving sexist stereotypes and even flirting with racist codes, the ad campaign has sparked a lively debate about the boundaries between marketing provocation, gendered representation, and latent cultural racism. [Who "sparked" the debate? I didn't hear anyone complaining.]

In the most talked-about clip of recent days, Sydney Sweeney, who rose to fame in the series "Euphoria" and "The White Lotus," repairs a vintage car—a Mustang GT350—wearing a fitted tank top and skinny jeans from the brand. [The video above is not the offending clip. This is the hot one!]

The whole thing is a mix of modernized pin-up aesthetics and a tribute to the codes of male auto mechanics. [See, for the wokesters, nothing offensive is ever said directly. You have to know the "code" to get the sexist, racist, yada yada message.] She is then seen wiping her hands on her jeans before getting into the vehicle. The slogan, in turn, refers to the cut of the jeans and, according to the brand, the "confidence each person can have when wearing them."

What could have been a slightly retro and sexy campaign quickly drew the ire of several internet users. Some people saw it as an "anti-woke" or even supremacist message. Others denounced the staging as reducing a woman to her appearance, in a pose that flirts with the most persistent clichés of 1990s marketing. [Some people saw it like that? Were they looking through pink- or mauve-coloured glasses?]

A gendered and racial reading of the message The phrase "superb jeans" has been accused of playing on a double meaning: jeans (pants) and genes (genetics). A potentially problematic pun, according to critics, who point out that in English, the pronunciation is identical (jeans / genes)

[Wait. It gets worse.] On the X network (formerly Twitter), some voices saw in this choice an allusion to the supposed "purity" of the actress's origins - young, white, blonde, thin - often elevated to a Western aesthetic fantasy. [You bet! I've been trying for years to construct a real fantasy out of a fake reality.]

Criticism also focuses on the actress's posture, her sexualization, and the fact that the campaign once again exploits a hyper-standardized image of femininity: a slim body, a soft gaze, suggested but controlled sexuality, all in a setting that recalls the appropriation of a so-called masculine universe (mechanics) to divert it for aesthetic purposes. An approach deemed dated by some commentators, who denounce a vision still largely dominated by the male gaze. [That's a lot. Pass me the barf bag.]

Faced with the controversy, American Eagle quickly took to its Instagram account to speak out. Refusing to apologize [Good on `em!], the brand insists that the slogan refers only to jeans, the ones worn by the actress, and in no way to anything else. It writes: "The slogan 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans' is and always will be about jeans. Her jeans. Her story."

She [sic] also says she wants to "continue to celebrate the way each person wears their AE jeans with confidence, in their own way," emphasizing a desire for inclusivity. [Oops, got some weasel words in there, at the last minute.] The brand therefore seems to be taking ownership of its approach, focusing on a visually strong editorial line, even if it means shaking things up. [Shaking what things up? Do they mean the woke narrative that anything that appeals to men and their "toxic masculinit" is baaddd?]

Notably, the White House itself intervened. Steven Cheung, the presidential communications director, posted a message on X declaring: "Cancel culture has no limits. Liberal ideology is twisted, stupid, and blocked, which is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024." [Right on, Steven!]

This unexpected support, in particularly virulent language, reinforced the idea that this campaign is now being co-opted in an ultra-polarized political climate, both in the United States and elsewhere. [Co-opted by whom? Steven Cheung is a Chinese-American. Is he working for the white supremacists? LOL]

The fact that American Eagle's stock jumped nearly 10% [Forget the jeans. Buy the stock.] after the campaign aired is no coincidence: commercial provocation still pays off, especially in a context of growing rejection of political correctness in certain circles. [Are you in the same circle as Walt?!]

[Last words to the woke.] Ultimately, this campaign highlights a growing tension in contemporary society: how can we speak to the greatest number of people, in an era saturated with images, without offending? Should we please or disturb in order to sell? And at what cost?

The Sydney Sweeney case also illustrates the tension between female injunctions to emancipation and those that continue to sell a standardized, desirable, and performative femininity. By choosing a renowned pop icon with an image that was both glamorous and accessible, American Eagle knew it wasn't speaking into a vacuum. However, the reception shows how diverse, sometimes contradictory, and deeply politicized contemporary interpretations are. [Last word to Walt: If these ads are divisive, it's only because "certain people" want them to be so, as the culture wars continue.]
